Best eSIM for Cannes (2026): Tested Providers for the Croisette and the Festival

František Macháček
Best eSIM in French Cities

Key Takeaways

Key Takeaways

For Cannes we recommend Nomad, the provider with a clean Côte d'Azur report, two French networks and the fastest speeds in independent French testing. Cannes is a congestion problem more than a coverage one. So a plan that can hop from Orange to Bouygues gives you a way out of a full cell.

  • 79 of 98 France reviews say it worked, the second-largest sample we track.
  • Orange plus Bouygues on one plan, and 665 Mbps on Orange in an independent test.
  • Drawback: support scored 2/10 in our test, and two coast reviewers had trouble in or after Monaco.
  • For unlimited data with the best coast record, Holafly has two clean Nice reports and 58 of 62 France reviews positive. It costs more and runs slower. Skip Airalo here: its one Cannes report is a complaint.

Cannes: One Boulevard, Two Networks and the Busiest Fortnight in France

Cannes lives on La Croisette. The Palais des Festivals sits at one end and Le Suquet rises at the other, all within a half-hour walk. Most visitors arrive through Nice airport, 27 kilometres east, and finish by train or bus in about 40 minutes.

A travel eSIM faces two tests here. The festival calendar puts tens of thousands of people on one seafront, and a roaming eSIM is served after local customers when a cell is full. Then there is the border: Monaco is an hour away and not in France.

Vefru funds every eSIM it reviews and tests purchase, installation, speed and support in turn. For Cannes we read every report naming the town, Nice, Monaco or the Côte d'Azur. Cannes itself appears in a single review, so we lean on coast-wide reports and say so. Today's prices are in our France eSIM comparison.

How well each provider's eSIM works in France

The Vefru score is our overall rating of the provider. The percentage shows how many reviewers said their eSIM worked well in France. Since unhappy customers review more often, it is best used to compare providers with each other.

Which eSIM Providers Are Cheapest in France?

Providers sell different amounts of data at different prices, so price per GB is the fairest way to compare them. Each bar below shows a provider's median price per GB for its France plans with 1 to 10 GB of data and 6 to 14 days of validity, which covers most one- and two-week trips. The shorter the bar, the less you pay for each GB. A France plan costs the same wherever you use it in the country, so these prices apply to Cannes too.

    Generated 05.10.2026 19:47

A low price per GB isn't the whole story. Compare it with how often each provider worked for travelers in France in the chart above, and check the speed caps and plan sizes in the provider sections below before you buy.

Cannes eSIM Plans at a Glance

A France plan bought for Cannes covers Nice, Antibes, Grasse, Saint-Tropez and the rest of metropolitan France, including the Îles de Lérins a short ferry ride offshore. It does not cover Monaco or Italy. For a Monte Carlo evening or a Ventimiglia market day, pick a Europe plan that names them.

Networks in Cannes: Full Bars, Full Cells and the Monaco Border

A travel eSIM in France is a tenant on Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom or Free Mobile. On the Côte d'Azur all four are strong, and in dense coastal centers the regulator's 2025 data puts Orange and Bouygues roughly level. Orange leads on upload speed in busy areas: 34 Mbit/s against 27 for Bouygues, 25 for SFR and 20 for Free.

Upload speed is the Cannes number. Festival visitors post photos and video all day, and a roaming eSIM uploads at the back of the queue when a cell is full. That is why a plan with two networks matters more here than anywhere else on the coast: when Orange stalls at the Palais, Bouygues may not. Our guide to multi-network eSIMs explains how to move operator by hand.

The one review that names Cannes is a warning. An Airalo customer could not get reasonable internet in Monaco and at times in Nice and Cannes, on a plan whose network is Orange. Along the same coast, a Nomad traveler reported the eSIM working on the Côte d'Azur. Two Holafly customers had no issues between Paris and Nice, and a GigSky user on a free plan called Nice amazing, if a little slow.

Monaco explains several complaints. A GigSky customer kept losing signal along the coast because Monaco sat outside her plan. A GoMoWorld user had 3G in Monaco for days. Two Nomad customers were fine in France and had trouble in or after Monaco. The principality has its own operator, and a phone can pick it up while still in France near Cap-d'Ail. Europe and global plans that list Monaco worked for GoMoWorld, Jetpac, Ubigi and Maya Mobile customers.

For a rental villa on the Californie hill or an apartment behind the Croisette, the regulator's Mon Réseau Mobile map shows each operator's outdoor coverage per address. Cannes is stone, hills and sea, so expect a weaker signal indoors than the map suggests. Our 4G vs 5G guide explains when a full 4G cell beats an empty 5G bar.

Eight eSIM Providers Compared for Cannes

The eight providers below all passed our paid test, each has a live plan table further down and enough France reviews to judge. Cannes appears in a single named review. We rank on coast-wide reports from Nice and Monaco, on France-wide records, and on which providers give you two networks for a festival week.

eSIM4Travel won our overall test at 8.8, with a perfect 10 for price and 10 for customer support, and it is reported on Orange. All five France reviews in our set are positive, and one customer got a free replacement eSIM through the chat within minutes.

Outside the festival weeks it is the best value here. During the festival its single network is the trade-off: when the Orange cell at the Palais is full, there is nowhere to switch. There is no app, the profile allows one install, and nobody in our set names Cannes. Full results are in our eSIM4Travel review.

Saily uses Orange and SFR in France, so a stalled cell on the Croisette is not the end of your connection. It scored 8.5 in our test, with the group's best app (9/10) and a 10 for support. For anyone working the festival, its unlimited plan allows 5 GB a day at full speed with unrestricted hotspot.

That cap surprised one Irish customer on day two of a France holiday, so know it exists. The profile reinstalls and activates on arrival, and Saily bundles ad blocking. We have a single France report, so its record is thin. For speed tests, see our Saily review.

Holafly has the best coast reports in our set. Two travelers used it between Paris and Nice with no issues, one for maps, restaurant bookings, train times and ride-sharing across a whole trip. Its France record is 58 of 62, it runs on Orange only, and unlimited data removes the maths from a beach week.

It took 6.2 in our test, scoring 4/10 for speed and 4/10 for price. A few Paris users saw 3G in busy areas, which is a risk during festival weeks. Hotspot is capped at 1 GB a day, the profile allows one install, and the France plan stops at Monaco. Our Holafly review weighs the unlimited question.

      Nomad eSIM in our hands

Nomad testing preview Nomad testing speed 1 Nomad testing speed 2 Nomad testing support

Nomad is our pick because it pairs Orange with Bouygues. It also posted the fastest result of any provider in an independent French test, 665 Mbps on Orange. One traveler reported it working on the Côte d'Azur, and 79 of 98 France reviews are positive. Prices are fair: about $9 for 5 GB, $14 for 10 GB and $35 for 50 GB, the last aimed at anyone uploading video all week.

Two coast reviewers said the same thing: fine in France, trouble in Monaco or right after visiting it. One customer was told by support to force 4G when 5G crawled, which is the right advice on a full Croisette. Our test scored Nomad 6.8, with support at 2/10, and unlimited slows after 2 GB a day. The support chat is in our Nomad review.

GigSky is the eSIM many North American visitors already have through a credit card. One such customer used it in Paris and Nice and called it amazing, if a little slow. Across France, 28 of 33 reports are positive. Our test scored it 7.2 with a 9 for support, and it runs on its own connection profile plus Orange.

The Côte d'Azur warning comes from a GigSky customer who did not realise Monaco was outside her free plan and kept losing signal along the coast. GoMoWorld, Jetpac, Ubigi and Others in Cannes

GoMoWorld (8.2) took a perfect 10 in our speed test on Orange and Free. Its coast record splits by plan: a Europe customer had mostly 5G across France and Monaco, a France-plan customer sat on 3G in Monaco for days. Jetpac (6.7) runs on Free in France, and one family's global eSIM worked in France and Monaco for taxis and WhatsApp. ByteSIM (5.3) uses Orange and Bouygues, and one remote worker praised its unrestricted 5G hotspot.

Ubigi, which we have not tested, uses SFR, Free and Bouygues but no Orange. It worked for a British customer in France and Monaco on a global plan, and its France count is 44 of 63. Simify has 25 of 26 France reports positive, though one customer found coverage unreliable during a week in Nice. A cruise passenger used Maya Mobile at French ports and Monaco without complaint. They all appear in our France comparison tool.

Our cheapest eSIM comparison sorts the bargains.

How Much Data a Cannes Week Takes

Cannes has two data profiles. A beach week uses maps, a beach club booking, the ferry timetable and photos, about 0.6 GB a day, so 5 GB with hotel Wi-Fi at night. A festival week is different: photos and video go up all day, schedules refresh every hour, and a laptop hotspot fills in for overloaded hotel Wi-Fi. That can pass 2 GB a day and 20 GB a week.

Reviews show both. A Holafly customer on unlimited data ran maps, bookings, train times and ride-sharing along the coast without a thought. A Jetpac user lost 4 GB of a 5 GB pack to phone background services in two days, which during a festival means running out on day two. Switch off automatic updates and cloud photo backup on mobile data before you arrive.

Download the Cannes and Nice map areas before you fly, and keep photo backup on Wi-Fi only unless you are on a large plan. Our data-saving tips have more, the travel data calculator turns your habits into a figure, and our guides to 5 GB and 10 GB show what each buys.

Day Trips From Cannes: Antibes, the Lérins Islands, Monaco and Italy

Antibes and Juan-les-Pins are ten minutes by train, Grasse half an hour inland, and Saint-Tropez a summer boat ride west. All are in France, with the usual gaps on hill roads behind Grasse. The Îles de Lérins sit a kilometre or two offshore and pick up the mainland towers, so the ferry and the island paths keep a signal. Download the ferry timetable anyway, because the last boat waits for nobody.

Monaco is the trap, an hour east by train and a separate country with its own operator. A France plan stops working there, and phones can latch onto Monaco's network while still in France near Cap-d'Ail. GigSky, GoMoWorld, Nomad and Airalo customers all describe exactly this. Take a Europe plan that lists Monaco, and switch off data on your home SIM there. Italy starts past Menton; pair the two countries in our multi-country search.

Buying a SIM in Cannes vs Installing an eSIM at Home

Cannes has no airport, so the first chance to buy a SIM is at Nice Côte d'Azur, where Relay newsstands and the tourist desk stock Orange and SFR. Travel guides quote Orange packs from about €10 to €40 and SFR from €20 to €30, figures we could not verify. In Cannes itself, all four operators have shops around Rue d'Antibes, and French law requires your passport for every SIM.

Online, the operators are cheaper. Orange Travel lists data-only Europe plans at about $6 for 1 GB, rising to $23 for 10 GB over 14 days. A 20 GB pack with a French number costs about $30. For a beach week, a travel eSIM at $9 to $14 for 10 GB wins and is live before the train reaches Cannes. For a festival fortnight with a +33 number for accreditation, a local SIM starts to compete. Our eSIM vs SIM comparison handles the rest.

Free eSIM Data for a Cannes Day Trip

A day trip from Nice to Cannes may not need a paid plan. GigSky hands new users a free 100 MB France trial, card-free, and up to 500 MB on a Europe trial. Some Visa cards unlock up to 5 GB, and one Nice visitor on that perk called it amazing, if a little slow. Bear in mind that another customer found Monaco missing from her free plan.

Roamless gives first-time buyers 500 MB at no charge and lists all four French networks, useful on a crowded seafront. Its France count is a modest 5 positive reports out of 8. For every free option see our free eSIM guide.

What Riviera Travelers Told Us About Their eSIMs Near Cannes

Cannes appears in one named review; Nice, Monaco and the Côte d'Azur appear in many more, and the coast is short enough that they all apply.

Airalo drew the only Cannes report: no reasonable internet in Monaco and weak service at times in Nice and Cannes. Nomad worked on the Côte d'Azur for one traveler, while two others had trouble in Monaco or right after leaving it. Holafly collected the cleanest coast reports, two travelers between Paris and Nice with no issues at all.

GigSky was amazing in Paris and Nice for a credit-card customer who found it a little slow. A problem along the coast for another whose free plan left out Monaco. GoMoWorld gave a Europe-plan customer mostly 5G across France and Monaco and left a France-plan customer on 3G in Monaco for days. Simify was unreliable for a traveler during a week in Nice. Jetpac, Ubigi and Maya Mobile each have one customer who crossed France and Monaco on a wider plan without trouble.

The France-wide working-versus-failing counts sit in the recommendation matrix near the top. Our eSIM customer support test shows which providers picked up when we broke things on purpose.

Setting Up Your eSIM Before the Croisette

Install at home on Wi-Fi, a few days before you fly. All the plans in this guide sit dormant until you arrive. During festival weeks the Nice airport Wi-Fi and every café hotspot in Cannes are crowded, so do the work before you leave.

      1. Check the phone. eSIM hardware plus a carrier unlock, both required. The most common failure is a carrier-locked phone; one Holafly customer discovered his after paying. Our list of phones with eSIM shows which models qualify.
      2. Size for the week you will have. A beach week is 5 GB. A festival week of uploads is 20 GB or more, and 1 GB daily caps on unlimited plans will not survive it.
      3. Install on Wi-Fi. The QR code goes in via Settings; our iPhone and Samsung guides show where. For an activation code without a QR, convert it to a QR code.
      4. On landing at Nice: turn the eSIM line on, enable Data Roaming, make it the mobile data line and switch off data on your home SIM. Holafly, eSIM4Travel, Global YO and Yesim permit exactly one installation.
      5. When the Croisette stalls: drop 5G to 4G, then switch networks by hand if your plan has two. Before a Monaco evening, check the plan covers it. For anything else, open our troubleshooting guide.

Nearly everyone lands at Nice, where the airport has free Wi-Fi, then takes the train or the airport bus west for about 40 minutes. The coast line runs along the shore with few tunnels. So the ride is a fair first test of the eSIM, and Cannes station sits two blocks behind the Croisette. If you arrive during the Film Festival, expect the first hours to be slow on every network; a full cell, not a broken eSIM, is the usual reason.

      Cannes eSIM Questions Answered

      Frequently Asked Questions

Will my eSIM work during the Cannes Film Festival?
Coverage, yes; speed, not always. The festival brings tens of thousands of people onto one seafront. When a cell around the Palais des Festivals is full, the operator serves its own customers before roaming ones. That is why an Airalo customer saw weak service in Cannes with signal bars showing. Three fixes work. Drop the phone from 5G to 4G, switch to the other network by hand if your plan has two, or step a street back from the Croisette. Upload video on hotel Wi-Fi at night. The menus are in (eSIM with multiple network carriers: Why it’s an advantage and how to switch between operators).
Does my Cannes eSIM work in Monaco?
Not on a France-only plan. Monaco is a separate country with its own operator, and phones can pick up its network while still on French soil near Cap-d'Ail. A GigSky customer lost signal along the coast because Monaco was outside her plan. A GoMoWorld user sat on 3G there for days, two Nomad customers had trouble, and an Airalo user found coverage patchy. Buy a Europe plan that lists Monaco, and switch off data on your home SIM there too.
How much data do I need for a week in Cannes?
About 5 GB for a beach week of maps, beach club bookings, the Lérins ferry timetable, messaging and photos, with hotel Wi-Fi in the evenings. A festival week is a different animal: photos and video uploaded all day, schedules refreshed hourly and ride-hailing to parties can pass 2 GB a day. Plan on 20 GB or Nomad's 50 GB plan, because unlimited plans with 1 GB daily caps will not survive it. For your own sum, use (Travel Data Calculator).
Does the eSIM work on the ferry to the Îles de Lérins?
Yes, in most spots. The islands sit a kilometre or two off the Croisette and pick up the mainland towers. So the 15-minute ferry and the paths on Sainte-Marguerite keep a signal on every French network. The southern shore of Saint-Honorat faces open sea and can be weaker. Download the ferry timetable before you board, because the last boat back is early and waits for nobody. Keep the phone on 4G rather than hunting for 5G on the water.
How do I get connected on the way from Nice airport to Cannes?
Install the eSIM at home, then switch it on as you land at Nice. Let it find a network before you board the train or the airport bus. The airport has free Wi-Fi to reach support if nothing happens. Relay newsstands and the tourist desk sell Orange and SFR SIM cards as a fallback, and French law requires your passport for every SIM. The coast train runs along the shore with few tunnels, so the ride doubles as a first test of the plan.
Which eSIM providers give me two networks in Cannes?
Nomad (Orange and Bouygues), Saily (Orange and SFR) and Yesim (Orange and Bouygues, with automatic switching) among the providers we test. GoMoWorld lets you choose between Orange and Free in its app, and Roamless lists all four French operators. Holafly, Airalo and eSIM4Travel run on Orange alone, which is fine outside the festival weeks and a risk during them. Ubigi has three networks but never Orange. How to force the switch is explained in (eSIM with multiple network carriers: Why it’s an advantage and how to switch between operators).

Our Verdict on the Best eSIM for Cannes

Cannes is a full-cell problem with a border attached, so the best eSIM for Cannes gives you two networks and a Europe option. Nomad is our pick: Orange plus Bouygues, the fastest speeds in French testing, a clean Côte d'Azur report and weak support as the trade-off. Holafly is the unlimited alternative with the best coast record.

For a quiet week outside the festival calendar, eSIM4Travel is the value pick that won our test. Check Monaco is on any plan before a Monte Carlo evening, and compare live prices in our France eSIM comparison tool.

      Why can you trust Vefru?

Founders František and Jan experienced problems with mobile data every time they traveled outside the EU. As technology enthusiasts, the idea of traveling abroad without a data connection or risking truly insane roaming fees was unacceptable to them. Regardless of how adventurous the story of walking across Toronto on a winter night without an online map might be, it's not something they would want to repeat.

After the emergence of eSIM and later eSIM travel data package providers, they learned a lot about the technology and industry and decided to share their findings and the comparison tool they created for themselves with others. It now contains more than 20,000 updated eSIM mobile data packages from the most popular providers for more than 170 countries around the world.

Every time you read a guide on Vefru, it is created in the same way the author would research the topic themselves. From contacting locals about the best network operators, to recommending the most advantageous plans for what you really need, to technical guides on how to create a QR code for eSIM or how to troubleshoot eSIM issues. Most articles are created based on topics that the authors themselves have dealt with and for which they found the best solutions.
