Global YO scored 8.0 in our test and worked for 23 of 25 travelers across Spain, which makes it our Spain-wide pick. It is also the cheapest: 10 GB for 30 days listed at $5.40 in Spain (as of August 2026). Our speed test reached 74 Mbps down and 72 Mbps up, measured outside Spain.

Holafly has the most Barcelona reports of any provider, 7, and 5 worked. Its Spain page names Orange, Movistar, Vodafone and Yoigo (checked August 2026), three separate networks, which helps when one cell near the Sagrada Família is full. One Mexican traveler landed at El Prat and had stable data for a whole four-country trip.

The failures are sharp. A traveler from Brisbane arrived after a 27-hour trip and could not get data at all, and had to use airport Wi-Fi to reach his transfer. Someone staying near Barcelona paid almost €40 for unlimited data and rarely saw more than two bars, too weak for laptop work. Our test found about 30 Mbps and scored it 6.2. Check our Holafly test.

Nomad worked for 4 of 5 Barcelona travelers and 71 of 84 across Spain, the strongest combined record here. One Israeli visitor had good reception in Barcelona and most of the time in the Pyrenees. A Canadian traveler found Barcelona very good even after a slow patch in Madrid.

The one Barcelona failure said there was no coverage in some areas of the city. GoMoWorld did not slow down after 10 GB in a day in our test and hit 1,350 Mbps near a 5G mast, measured outside Spain. It worked for 18 of 22 Spain travelers and scored 8.2, the best balance of speed and price we tested.

No report names Barcelona, and the nearest one is a warning: an Irish traveler had poor coverage on the Costa Brava, though the company followed up well. Human support works weekdays only, so a Saturday problem waits until Monday. Our GoMoWorld test has the full test.

Yesim worked for all 3 Barcelona travelers who mention it and for all 16 in Spain, the only tested provider with no failure there. Both samples are small, so treat the record as promising rather than proven. Yesim's blog says it uses Movistar, Orange and Vodafone; we could not confirm that on a product page.

Saily scored 8.5 with a 10 for support and 9 for its app, the best combination we tested. That matters in Barcelona, where one Simify reviewer needed a replacement phone and eSIM mid-trip. A help desk that answers fast is worth more than a cheaper plan when that happens.

GigSky worked for 1 of 2 Barcelona travelers and 26 of 33 across Spain. One reviewer mapped the problem by transport zone: fine in zone 1, harder from zone 2, and worse again from zone 3 to zone 5. Another found Barcelona slow on a trip that also took in Paris and Rome.

Airalo worked for 1 of 3 Barcelona travelers and 21 of 51 across Spain, the weakest Spain record we track. In August 2026 one reviewer said it did not work well in Barcelona, and another said a Europe plan failed in Barcelona, Rome and Naples. A third had no trouble in Barcelona at all.

Its Spanish networks are unclear, with three conflicting accounts. It scored 7.3 in our test, helped by 9 for installation, but 4 for price. Compare our Airalo test with Airalo against Saily before you pick it for Barcelona.

eSIM4Travel, Jetpac and Untested Providers in Barcelona

eSIM4Travel tops our test at 8.8, yet its only Spain report is a Barcelona one from 2024: unstable data until the reviewer switched off 4G and LTE, and the company then proposed a refund. One report is too few to judge. Jetpac (6.7) worked for 14 of 16 Spain travelers, and one reviewer's eSIM moved to a new phone in 5 minutes over WhatsApp. ByteSIM (5.3) has no Spain reports in our data yet.

We have not tested these providers yet, so they get no ranking. Ubigi worked for 3 of 4 Barcelona travelers, though one couple could not make Messenger voice calls. Barcelona's 27 reports split across nine providers, so no single sample is large. Nomad (4 of 5), Yesim (3 of 3) and Holafly (5 of 7) lead the tested group, and Airalo (1 of 3) trails. Pick Nomad for balance, Yesim if you trust a small clean record, or Holafly for named networks.

Catalonia Beyond Barcelona: Costa Brava, Tarragona and the Pyrenees

Outside the city the data thins out. Ubigi failed in Tarragona and in Montblanc, and GoMoWorld struggled on the Costa Brava. The Pyrenees look better, with Nomad at 2 of 2 and Holafly and Simify at 1 of 1 each.

Which Spanish Network Works Best in Barcelona

Spain has four network owners: Movistar, MasOrange (Orange and Yoigo on one network), Vodafone España and Digi. Opensignal's May 2026 report put Movistar first for download speed at 96.7 Mbps, against 66.8 Mbps for Orange. Digi won both 5G speed awards but runs a small network of its own.

Crowds are the Barcelona problem. A single-network eSIM has nowhere to go when its cells fill up, which is why multi-brand claims deserve a second look: Orange plus Yoigo is still one network. Holafly is the only provider here that names Movistar, Orange and Vodafone on its Spain page.

Reviews show the pattern. A Maya Mobile user saw 5G drop to 3G across Barcelona for a week, and an eSIM4Travel user stabilized a shaky line by turning off 4G and LTE. How Much Data a Barcelona Trip Uses

Barcelona days mix walking maps, timed tickets for the Sagrada Família and Park Güell, and a lot of beach photos. A Nomad reviewer near Alicante burned about 2 GB a day, mostly on maps, while a GoMoWorld customer used just 4 GB of 15 GB on a full Spain trip. Your total depends on video, not on the city.

Day Trips From Barcelona: Montserrat, Girona, Andorra and France

Montserrat, Girona, Sitges and Tarragona stay inside Spain, so any Spain plan covers them. Mountain roads are where networks thin out: the CNMC found only 82.2% of rural municipalities have even one 5G network. Save your route offline before you leave the city.

Andorra and France are different. One Nomad user had no connection in Andorra at all, while an Airalo Europe plan worked there and then stopped at the French border until support fixed the settings. Buy a plan that lists every country, and see our France guide or Italy guide if a cruise or train continues along the coast.

Barcelona Prepaid SIM vs a Travel eSIM, and Free Trial Data

SIM counters exist at El Prat, and you register a prepaid SIM with your passport; no NIE is needed. According to the comparison site Kelisto in August 2026, Yoigo sells 30 GB for €10.00 and Vodafone 100 GB for €15.00, prices that dwarf any travel eSIM per GB. One source says airport counters charge 30% to 50% more than city shops; we could not confirm it.

How to Set Up Your eSIM Before Landing at Barcelona-El Prat

Holafly's failed El Prat arrival shows why you install at home: a problem at the airport costs hours.

1. Confirm eSIM support. Your phone must have eSIM hardware and be carrier-unlocked; check our eSIM phone list.
2. Install on Wi-Fi at home. Follow our iPhone setup or Samsung setup, or turn an activation code into a QR code.
