How to make your phone eSIM compatible? Review of eSIM.me

Jiri Padour

New Phone or Alternative?

The first option that comes to mind is to get a new phone. When it comes to Android phones, only the very best support multiple eSIM cards. But what if you simply don't want to buy a new phone? I tested for you a product from the German company eSIM.me, which can make your non-eSIM supporting phone support eSIM.

How Does eSIM.me Work?

eSIM.me works by inserting a special SIM card into your phone, on which you can store different eSIM profiles using an app. This way, your older phone gains the ability to support up to 15 eSIM cards.

First Step: Compatibility Check

The first step I recommend is to check that your phone supports eSIM.me. You can easily do this by installing the eSIM.me app, which will check the support for you.

Ordering the SIM Card

Ordering the SIM card is quite simple, like on any e-shop. What is worth mentioning is that it is not worth paying extra for faster shipping. The company is based in Germany, and even with slower shipping, which states delivery in 2 to 3 weeks, you will have the SIM card at home in 5 days.

I ordered the cheapest variant of the SIM card with support for two eSIMs for 25 euros and the cheaper basic shipping for 10 euros.

What Came in the Package?

The package included a SIM card that can be snapped into three sizes: miniSIM, microSIM, and nanoSIM, like from any operator. I also received a voucher for a 20% discount on the purchase of eSIMs in the eSIM.me marketplace and a short user manual.

Installing the SIM Card

Installing the SIM card is relatively simple, just time-consuming. You insert the SIM card into the phone, open the already installed app, and then unfortunately you need to create a new registration because the registration from the eShop does not transfer to the app.

Uploading eSIM

After that, it was just necessary to upload the eSIM, which I did using a QR code. Uploading the eSIM itself is very simple, you just need to remember to enable roaming on your phone afterwards. And you can use your data.

Overall Rating

Overall, I think I can recommend eSIM.me. The service is not perfect - the mentioned two registrations add an extra level of complexity, and there are Android 13 phones that struggle a bit with this service. But if you have a phone that supports the service and you want to make it eSIM compatible, this is one of the few options you have that works.
