Jetpac is the best option for most UK trips because it had the best traveler record of any provider here, and its reviews describe signal in places others missed. It worked well for 37 of 38 travelers who reported from the United Kingdom (97%), strong evidence. The successes cover London, Scotland, Surrey, Exeter, Plymouth and coastal villages in Cornwall; one driver on the A303 in November 2024 wrote: "I had a signal in small coastal towns where our relatives had none." Several reviewers put that down to being able to switch between networks manually when one dropped.

The one miss, in June 2025, was a UK eSIM that would not activate alongside a weak signal, fixed only after support sent a new QR code. That is the pattern in the rest of Jetpac's UK reviews too: the data worked, but a surprising number of people first needed the WhatsApp help desk to sort out a missing email, a second eSIM on the same phone or a pack that had not started. In our own test the help desk took around eight minutes to answer and the app was the roughest of the providers we compared; our hands-on Jetpac review has the screenshots.

Jetpac sells UK packs from 1 GB to 40 GB on 1 to 30 days, UK unlimited from 3 to 30 days, and Europe and global packs that include the UK; our comparison tool flags some of its regional unlimited plans as 4G only. Unlimited gives 3 GB a day at full speed and then slows until the daily reset, the hotspot has no cap, and packs of 3 GB or more keep WhatsApp, Google Maps and Uber working after the data runs out [14]. It also sells in-app voice packs and offers a free airport lounge if your registered flight is delayed by more than an hour [14]. The drawback is price: Jetpac sits well above the market average in the UK in our comparison, so it suits travelers who want the coverage record more than the lowest bill. Roamless suits travelers who pass through the UK on a longer trip and use little data, because one eSIM with pay-as-you-go credit covers every stop and the credit keeps for the next trip. It worked well for 27 of 28 travelers who reported from the United Kingdom (96%), strong evidence. The successes read like itineraries: five months through the UK and Europe with service picking up at every border, London to Singapore to France, Scotland on a global eSIM, and free data on arrival at Heathrow. One traveler who drove across the UK in April 2025 wrote: "It picked up providers the moment we landed or drove over borders."

The misses were not dead zones but drops that needed a manual fix: an eSIM that went "offline" in September 2025 until the user switched operator by hand, slow data in the Cotswolds and parts of London in April 2026, and one reviewer in March 2026 who found speeds poor across the UK. Roamless's own reply to the first case is the useful part: with three operators available, choosing one manually in the phone settings usually brings data back. We hit the same thing in our test, where the preselected APN did not work until we picked the Proximus profile, so read the setup section before you fly.

Roamless has no unlimited plan. For the UK it sells fixed 30-day plans from 1 GB to 200 GB, plus credit with no expiry that works in 203 destinations, and it keeps a trickle of data alive at zero balance so you can top up without Wi-Fi. Calls go through the app on the same credit, with an optional second number that is not UK-specific. Price-wise it is around the market average in the UK and among the cheapest for 1 GB, but one of the dearest for 10 GB and above, which is why it is a pick for light users rather than streamers. Holafly is the option for travelers heading to Scotland and the islands who do not want to think about data, because it had the best rural record in the UK and the largest report base after Maya Mobile. It worked well for 142 of 148 travelers who reported from the United Kingdom (96%), strong evidence, and 11 of 12 in Scotland. Reviews describe data on the Isles of Mull and Skye, in the Highlands, in a house in Scotland with no internet, and "all over the southern UK" where one traveler in June 2026 was "often having service when locals didn't".

The six misses cluster in two places. Central London accounts for most of them: slow or dropping data in Westminster and South Kensington, a phone that had to be restarted to reconnect in May 2026, and one 10-day stay in August 2026 with trouble throughout. The rest are long drives between villages, London to Edinburgh in May 2026 being the clearest, plus Edinburgh Airport, where one traveler could not connect on departure day. The texts suggest a reconnection problem rather than no coverage: several people got back online by toggling the eSIM off and on.

Holafly sells only unlimited plans for the UK, 3 to 30 days in our comparison tool and up to 90 days on its own page, data only, with the hotspot capped at 1 GB a day and a free 1 GB a month for as long as you keep the eSIM installed [9]. There are no top-ups, and the eSIM cannot be reinstalled once deleted. Its UK page listed five network names when we checked in August 2026, two of them old brand names of networks that have since merged into EE [9]; we could not confirm with Holafly which networks its UK eSIM uses today. The drawback is speed: in our test Holafly looked capped from the start, and our Holafly review explains why. Global YO is the price pick for the UK, and the one with the cleanest London record: it worked well for 30 of 32 travelers who reported from the United Kingdom (94%), strong evidence, and all 9 who reported from London. Those London reviews talk about Google Maps on the Tube, fast data in crowded areas and quick top-ups on the tarmac at Gatwick; one in February 2025 wrote: "From navigating the Tube to finding restaurants, I had zero connection issues." In Scotland a reviewer in July 2024 saw it roam between two networks and found more coverage than a Vodafone phone in the north.

The two misses were both activation failures, in February and May 2024, where the eSIM would not activate at all and the help desk was slow to respond; both ended in refunds. More recent reviews mention weaker service in London in August 2026 for one traveler and tethering that never worked for another. In our own test the help desk also took about ten minutes to send a template reply, which is why Global YO suits people who install at home and expect no hand-holding; our Global YO review has the details.

Global YO sells UK plans from 1 GB for 3 days to 100 GB for 60 days, day plans of 1 GB a day, and Europe and global plans that include the UK; it has no unlimited plan. Its UK page names Three, EE and O2 as the networks, states that no ID is required, and lists the speed as 4G/LTE only [13], so you will not see 5G even where EE has it. Purchase is app-only, the eSIM arrives by email, and a deleted eSIM cannot be reinstalled. Maya Mobile suits trips of a week or more that mix the UK with other countries, because one unlimited plan covers all of them and its UK record rests on the biggest report base of any provider. It worked well for 190 of 203 travelers who reported from the United Kingdom (94%), strong evidence, and 36 of 44 in London. The successes run from Liverpool and Manchester to Scotland and the NC500, where a reviewer in June 2025 had a "great connection throughout Scotland, even on the NC 500 in the rural areas", and several Europe-plus-UK itineraries where it worked at every stop.

The 13 misses have a shape. Northern England is the weak spot: Whitby, Pickering, Leeds and York were spotty for one traveler in May 2025, Manchester had no signal for another, and two reviewers found the Scottish countryside patchy. A few London reviews report an unstable connection even with full bars, and one UK eSIM in March 2026 simply never got data. The Isle of Man and Guernsey are not covered by the Europe plan, which caught two travelers out. Maya's replies point to its 24/7 chat, and the reviews that used it say the help desk answered in minutes.

Maya sells no UK-only plan in our comparison tool, just a global unlimited plan for 3, 7, 14 or 30 days with a cruise version, data only, hotspot included. Our tool lists it with 5 GB a day at full speed before a slowdown; Maya's own UK page claimed no caps when we checked in August 2026, so we could not confirm which applies. In our own test, speed dropped sharply after roughly 5 GB in a day and came back the next day, the fairest unlimited rule we have measured; our Maya Mobile review has the numbers. Ubigi has the sixth-best UK record and would be a pick on coverage alone, but a help desk that did not answer our ticket within 24 hours keeps it out of the top group. It worked well for 109 of 118 travelers who reported from the United Kingdom (92%), strong evidence, and the successes are road trips: Edinburgh to Skye over the Highlands and Loch Lomond, north Wales, Cornwall, Stansted and Heathrow on arrival. One traveler in July 2026 was "connected to internet all the time, from Edinburgh to Skye over the highland and Loch Lomond." The misses sit in London (Big Ben, the London Eye, the Tower of London, Harrods, a two-hour outage in June 2026 that Ubigi put down to a technical problem), the Bullring in Birmingham, Glasgow and Wales; one reviewer at Stansted only got data after picking EE manually.

Ubigi sells UK plans of 3, 10, 25 and 50 GB plus unlimited by the week or month, and Europe and world plans that include the UK. Its UK page names EE and Three, with 4G and 5G and no 3G, and publishes the only clear fair-use rule we found: 25 GB at full speed, then a slower rate [12]. The plan starts on arrival, not on install, and an unused plan expires six months after purchase [12]. In our test the data was fast and unthrottled and we could buy more at zero balance, but the app and website were the weakest we used; our Ubigi review shows both. Saily is the choice for a first eSIM, with the smoothest install and the best help desk in our test, but its UK record and price keep it out of the top five. It worked well for 37 of 41 travelers who reported from the United Kingdom (90%), strong evidence. The successes describe a plan that started the moment the plane landed and a help desk that fixed user errors on arrival; one reviewer in April 2026 had it "started soon as I landed in UK". The four misses are harder: no usable signal in central London in July 2026, a UK eSIM that never loaded during a three-week stay in June 2026, a chat agent who called it "a glitch in the UK" after three hours of troubleshooting, and no 4G or 5G in places where companions on other SIMs had both.

Saily sells UK plans of 1 GB (7 days), 3 to 20 GB (30 days) and unlimited for 15 days, plus Europe and global plans. Unlimited gives 5 GB a day before a slowdown, the hotspot has no limit, and the activation window is 180 days, the longest we found; its page does not name a UK network, and the phone-number add-on is a US number, not a UK one [10]. Purchase is in-app only, which is fine for the app but a problem in a country where the app is blocked. The main drawback is price: Saily is among the two most expensive providers in the UK in our comparison, so it suits people who value the support more than the bill. Nomad is the provider to look at if you want a UK phone number with minutes and texts on a travel eSIM, but its London record is the weakest among the big report bases. It worked well for 154 of 177 travelers who reported from the United Kingdom (87%), strong evidence, yet only 25 of 38 in London. The successes include the Highlands and the Inner Hebrides, a stable video interview from a London hotel, and 50 GB stretched across the UK and Europe; one reviewer in July 2026 "had good coverage across the UK including Scottish Highlands and Inner Hebrides." The 23 misses are mostly slow or dropping data in central London, Edinburgh and Bath, no signal in Wales, North Devon and Glasgow, and a few plans that drained data faster than expected. Two travelers saw it fail on the EE or O2 profile while a companion on Vodafone had service; one got a UK number but could not find it in the app.

Nomad sells UK plans from 1 GB to 50 GB on 3 to 30 days, unlimited for 5 and 30 days, and four UK plans of 5 to 50 GB that include minutes and SMS; its page names Three, O2 and Vodafone, excludes EE, and gives unlimited a daily allowance before a slowdown [11]. Our test found no throttling on fixed data, but the help desk was a bot with no route to a human, which is why we put Nomad in this group; our Nomad review describes it. GigSky is worth a try if you hold a qualifying Visa card, because many of its UK reports came from travelers using its complimentary plan, but paid for it is a weak choice here. It worked well for 86 of 107 travelers who reported from the United Kingdom (80%), strong evidence that something is off. The 21 misses are the most specific in this article: phones dropping to Edge in central London, no data in Edinburgh, Dundee, Glasgow and north-east Scotland, a plan that stopped at the England to Scotland border, and several people switching to Airalo or a local SIM mid-trip. The successes are real too: a week in London with no issues, Skye more consistent than Edinburgh, Northern Ireland and Belfast fine, and a global plan that crossed from Ireland into Northern Ireland without a hitch.

GigSky sells UK plans from 1 GB for 7 days to 50 GB for 180 days plus a 1-day unlimited pass, and cruise, ferry and Europe plans that include the UK. It says it uses Three, O2 and Vodafone, a claim we could not confirm independently, and from 1 April 2026 it has given Visa cardholders a free UK plan, which dozens of reviewers used. Its app stays online at zero data so you can buy more without Wi-Fi, and its help desk answered us at once; our GigSky review explains the cruise rules. Airalo is not a top pick for the UK because it had the worst record of the 14 providers here, and the reviews say why. It worked well for 105 of 140 travelers who reported from the United Kingdom (75%), strong evidence, but only 7 of 27 in London. The 35 misses are overwhelmingly intermittent London data in summer 2026: full bars but nothing loading, service for an hour a day, phones stuck on LTE, and several people buying another provider's eSIM mid-stay. Outside London the failures are the places you would expect, the Lake District, Orkney and Shetland, plus Eastbourne and the Isle of Portland. The successes are road trips: Land's End to John o' Groats with one short drop, and a drive from Edinburgh through Stirling, Oban, Skye and Inverness to Aberdeen in July 2026 where the reviewer "never lost connectivity the entire time".

Airalo sells Uki Mobile plans from 1 GB to 50 GB and unlimited from 3 to 30 days, Uki Mobile+ plans with calls and texts, a separate Scotland eSIM (Nessietel) with the same sizes, and Europe and global plans. Its page names EE as the single network [7], so there is no fallback when EE is weak, and earlier reviews describe other networks, so the partner has not always been EE. Unlimited gives 3 GB a day before a slowdown. Purchase and install were the easiest in our test, and the Airalo review says so, but on price it is among the more expensive providers in the UK. ByteSIM has a good but small UK record and is the only provider here that sells plans with a real UK phone number. It worked well for 18 of 19 travelers who reported from the United Kingdom (95%), limited evidence. The successes are London, Heathrow, Scotland and two weeks across the UK, nearly always with a note that the WhatsApp help desk answered within minutes; one traveler whose EE profile failed was given a free second eSIM on O2 in July 2025. The one miss was Cambridge in July 2026, where the connection was "near zero", and an older review found UK data slow until the settings were sorted. One reviewer warns that daily plans cut off at midnight Hong Kong time, which is mid-afternoon in the UK.

ByteSIM sells more UK plans than anyone in our comparison tool: daily plans from 500 MB a day, fixed plans up to 90 GB on 1 to 30 days, unlimited, and plans with a phone number listed on EE or O2. Its product pages say the voice plans run on CTExcel, a UK operator that rides EE, with a +44 number and some EU roaming; we could not fetch those pages in full. There are no top-ups. In our test the checkout and app were the clumsiest we used and WhatsApp did not reply within 15 minutes, which is why it stays here despite the record; our ByteSIM review shows the checkout. It is a little below the market average in the UK and suits experienced users who pay with local wallets. ByteSIM plans.

GoMoWorld is a cheap way to get a lot of data in UK cities, but its report base is small and two of its misses were about how the plan starts rather than where it works. It worked well for 15 of 17 travelers who reported from the United Kingdom (88%), limited evidence. The successes are London and larger cities with fast data; the misses are slow data in central London that vanished outside it in May 2026, poor coverage in Armagh, Northern Ireland, and a plan that could not be started at the airport because activation needs an internet connection. GoMoWorld itself said in October 2025 that UK networks had a temporary problem that month.

GoMoWorld sells four UK plans, 4 GB for 7 days and 15, 50 or 75 GB for 30 days, plus a Europe plan that includes the UK; its page does not name a UK network. It is app-only with one account per device, and nothing happens until you press Start in the app, the most common cause of "not working" in its reviews and in our test. Yesim cannot be recommended for the UK on the evidence we have. It worked well for 3 of 6 travelers who reported from the United Kingdom (50%), limited evidence, and the review file we read holds no Yesim texts for the UK, so we cannot say where or why the three misses happened. That is too thin to call it bad, but not enough to put it ahead of providers with hundreds of reports.

Yesim sells UK plans from 500 MB for a day to 30 GB, unlimited by the day from 1 to 30 days, and Europe and global bundles; its page does not name a UK network and does not publish the fair-use threshold on unlimited. In our test the plan started at purchase rather than on arrival and the help desk took 15 to 60 minutes per reply, so buy close to the trip; our Yesim review has the details. eSIM4Travel is the cheapest provider in the UK and in our whole comparison, with the best help desk we tested, but only 2 travelers have reported from the United Kingdom and both said it worked (2 of 2, too few to judge). One used it in the States, France and the UK over two years with "brilliant coverage"; the other, in 2024, drove through England and Ireland and found that picking the operator manually often gave better reception.

eSIM4Travel sells UK plans from 100 MB a day to 50 GB, unlimited from 1 to 30 days, and Europe and global plans. Its UK page names O2, EE and Vodafone, with unlimited giving 3 GB a day at full speed before a slowdown, and a plan must be activated within 90 days of purchase [8]; the same page is inconsistent about how slow the slowdown is. There is no app, so when the data runs out you need Wi-Fi to reach the store, and it sells no calls. Our eSIM4Travel review covers the human support we reached in one click. Simify, an Australian reseller of UK and Europe eSIMs, appears in the reviews we read but has no row in our country analysis and no Vefru test score, so it gets no count or rank here; its UK reviews are mostly positive, with the misses being eSIMs that never activated on landing in London.

Price per GB in the United Kingdom by eSIM Provider

How much does each provider charge per GB in the United Kingdom? The chart below compares plans of 1 to 10 GB that last 6 to 14 days, the usual range for a one- or two-week trip. Provider websites show only their own plans, so this side-by-side view is one you would otherwise have to work out yourself. A shorter bar means a lower price per GB.

The tables below are live and sorted by price for each data size. Two things to keep in mind while you read them. A UK-only plan does not work in the Republic of Ireland, because UK operators are no longer bound by EU roaming rules; if your trip crosses the border, pick a Europe or global plan, or a UK plus Ireland product. Best eSIM for London, Scotland and England

The city and regional reports split along one line: London punishes single-network eSIMs with congested cells, while Scotland and the English countryside punish eSIMs that lack EE. The table lists every place with reports, in the same provider order as the matrix; a provider needs 3 reports in a place to be its pick.

Best eSIM for London

Maya Mobile is the London pick because it worked well for 36 of 44 travelers who reported from the city, the largest base of any provider there, and its misses were slow spots rather than a dead eSIM. Global YO went 9 of 9, with reviewers using maps on the Tube and in crowds, and is the better choice for a cheap short stay if 4G-only is acceptable. Holafly (20 of 25) and Ubigi (30 of 38) worked for most but drew complaints around Westminster, South Kensington, the Tower of London and the London Eye, where crowded cells slowed data to a crawl.

The runners-up fail in the same way. Nomad's 13 London misses and Airalo's 27 describe full signal bars with nothing loading, phones stuck on LTE, and service for an hour a day in summer 2026; several of those travelers switched to Maya Mobile, Global YO or a local SIM mid-trip. GigSky users saw phones drop to Edge in the centre. Expect no signal in most Tube tunnels yet: 62 of 121 underground stations had coverage at the start of 2026, with the rest due by the end of the year [4]. At the airports, reviewers connected on landing at Heathrow with Roamless, Ubigi and ByteSIM, and at Gatwick with Global YO; the only airport miss was an Airalo eSIM at Stansted.

Best eSIM for Scotland

Holafly is the pick for Scotland with 11 of 12 reports, and its texts cover exactly the places that worry people: the Isle of Mull, Skye, the Highlands and a house with no internet. Roamless went 3 of 3 but on too few reports to rank above it, and Nomad is the only provider with 3 clean reports in the Highlands, including the West Highland Way. Maya Mobile worked on the NC500 and for 7 of 9 in Scotland overall, though two reviewers called the countryside patchy.

The misses belong to GigSky and Ubigi. GigSky worked for only 8 of 15 travelers in Scotland, with no data in Dundee, north-east Scotland and, for one traveler, the whole country after crossing from England; two of those people noted that EE phones around them kept working. Ubigi's Scotland misses were Glasgow and parts of Edinburgh, while its Highlands drives were clean. Edinburgh itself is the weakest city in the file for every provider, with Ubigi (4 of 6) and Nomad (5 of 8) splitting the reports and one Maya Mobile user losing data for two days during the festivals. That matches the regulator's picture: Scotland and Wales have the lowest 4G land coverage of the four nations [2].

Best eSIM for England Outside London

Holafly also leads the reports that name England rather than a city, 9 of 9, followed by Nomad with 15 of 19 and GigSky with 8 of 10. The Holafly reviews describe "all over the southern UK" and Stonehenge; Nomad's describe the south-west corner and Yorkshire; Ubigi went 3 of 3 with Cornwall and north Wales road trips in the mix.

The misses are rural and western. Nomad lost signal in North Devon, on the South West Coast Path and in Norfolk, where it bounced between Vodafone and Three; Airalo had nothing in the Lake District and on the Isle of Portland; Maya Mobile struggled in Whitby, Pickering and Leeds. Those are the areas where O2's quality drops sharply according to Opensignal's January 2026 regional tables, and where EE has the strongest 5G footprint [2], which favours the providers that include EE: Holafly, Jetpac, Ubigi and eSIM4Travel.

Local SIM Cards and Operator eSIMs in the United Kingdom

EE's own visitor eSIM is the strongest local offer we have seen in any country, and for a UK-only trip that needs more than a few gigabytes it beats every travel eSIM here on price and speed. As of August 2026 it costs £5.00 for 1 day, £10.00 for 3 days, £15.00 for 7 days (plus one free day), £20.00 for 14 days, £30.00 for 30 days and £90.00 for 90 days, all unlimited data with no speed cap stated, and you can buy it with no UK address [6]. The catches: it is data only (no SMS on Android, iMessage only on iPhone), you have 90 days to start it after purchase, and it applies a content filter that blocks 18-rated sites and cannot be switched off [6]. UK VAT is included in the price you see.

No ID, passport or registration is needed to buy any UK SIM or eSIM; EE, Global YO and ByteSIM all state it on their pages [6] [13]. A parliamentary petition to require ID for SIM sales existed in 2026 but is not law, as of September 2026. On arrival, Sim Local says it runs physical counters at Heathrow and Gatwick selling EE, Three UK and Lycamobile eSIMs, and WHSmith and vending machines carry plastic SIMs; we could not confirm current airport prices, and travelers report that eSIM stock at Heathrow is thin. For O2, Vodafone and Three pay-as-you-go we could not confirm current tourist prices either. Three's bundles include roaming in Europe, which matters for a UK plus Ireland trip, and marketplaces like SimOptions resell Three UK eSIMs with a +44 number; those start counting validity on install, not on arrival, so install only after landing.

When a local SIM beats a travel eSIM: a UK-only stay of a week or more with heavy use, a group that wants uncapped speed, or anyone who needs a UK number for calls (Three, not EE's data-only eSIM). When a travel eSIM wins: a small plan under about 5 GB, a trip that crosses into Ireland or Europe, a hotspot without a daily cap, pay-as-you-go credit that never expires, or no interest in EE's content filter. Mobile Networks in the United Kingdom

EE is the network to want behind your eSIM: it has the highest 5G coverage outside premises of the four operators, at 86% in Ofcom's 2025 report [2], and 4G coverage per operator now sits between 76% and 94% outside premises with 5G, against 84% of landmass covered by all four together [1]. According to Opensignal's January 2026 report, EE won 11 of 15 awards including reliability and 5G availability, O2 edged it on overall coverage experience, Three had the fastest 5G but it was often not there, and Vodafone had the weakest 5G reach. The same report shows O2's quality dropping hard in Wales and south-west England, so an O2-only eSIM is the wrong choice for Snowdonia, Pembrokeshire, Cornwall or Devon.

There are three operator groups now. Vodafone UK and Three UK merged on 31 May 2025, but Ofcom still reports them as separate networks because their coverage data is still separate [2]. O2 claims coverage of more than 99% of the population and offers a satellite bolt-on, and its own map no longer shows 3G [5]. 3G is switched off on all four networks, and O2 withdrew inbound 2G roaming in October 2025, so a visitor with an old handset may get no data at all [2]. Ofcom's own checker gives address-level predictions for all four operators and is the neutral way to check your hotel [3].

Who rides which network, as far as the files show: Airalo uses EE only [7]; Ubigi uses EE and Three [12]; eSIM4Travel offers O2, EE and Vodafone [8]; Global YO lists Three, EE and O2 but 4G only [13]; Nomad uses Three, O2 and Vodafone and excludes EE [11]. Holafly's page lists five network names including two old names for the networks now inside EE [9], which we could not confirm. Roamless (Vodafone, O2, Three), GigSky (Three, O2, Vodafone), Jetpac (EE, Three, O2) and ByteSIM (EE via CTExcel) are reported by the providers themselves or by third parties, not shown on the plan pages we opened. Saily, Yesim, Maya Mobile and GoMoWorld did not name a network on their UK pages when we checked in August 2026. How to Set Up an eSIM for the United Kingdom

Install before you fly, on home Wi-Fi, and activate on landing. That one habit removes most of the failures in the reviews above, which were QR codes that need internet to install, plans not started, and settings nobody checked at the airport.

1. Check that your phone is unlocked and can take an eSIM; our list of phones with eSIM support covers the exceptions, including iPhones sold in mainland China.
2. Buy and install at home. Almost every provider here starts the clock on first connection, not on install, with long windows: 180 days for Saily [10], 90 days for eSIM4Travel [8], three months for Jetpac [14], and six months before an unscanned Ubigi QR code expires [12]. The exceptions are Yesim, whose plan started at purchase in our test, GoMoWorld, where nothing happens until you press Start in the app, and some Airalo packages that start on install.
3. Set the eSIM as your mobile data line and turn on data roaming for it. Global YO may need the APN "globaldata" typed in by hand [13]; Maya Mobile uses the same APN, Ubigi uses "mobiledata", and Roamless worked for us only on the Proximus profile. 4. On landing, switch mobile data off on your home SIM so it cannot roam, and give the eSIM a minute. An "R" roaming icon is normal. If there is signal but no data, pick a network manually in the settings; that fixed Roamless, Ubigi and Nomad eSIMs in the reviews above.
5. Do not test it in the Tube. Most tunnels have no coverage yet [4], and Holafly and Global YO eSIMs that looked dead underground worked on the street.
6. If it still does not connect, work through our eSIM troubleshooting guide before contacting the help desk, and keep a screenshot of your settings ready; every help desk in these reviews asked for one.

Calls and SMS in the United Kingdom

Most travel eSIMs for the UK are data only, so calls go over WhatsApp or FaceTime; the UK's calling code is +44. Three providers here sell a real number or minutes. Nomad's four UK plans of 5 to 50 GB include minutes and SMS, and its page describes them as UK voice and SMS bundles [11]; one reviewer found the number useful, another could not find it in the app. Airalo's Uki Mobile+ plans add calls and texts to data from 1 GB to 50 GB [7]. ByteSIM sells UK plans with a phone number listed on EE or O2 in our comparison tool, and its pages describe a +44 number with UK calls; we could not fetch those pages in full.

App calling is the next option. Jetpac sells in-app voice packs [14], Roamless makes calls from its app on the same credit, and Global YO has an outgoing VoIP feature. Saily's number add-on is a US number, not a UK one [10]. Note that EE's visitor eSIM is data only too, with no SMS on Android [6]; for a UK number with minutes from an operator, a Three pay-as-you-go SIM or a Three UK eSIM from a reseller is the route. One recurring complaint across the reviews: parking apps, Uber verification and some banks refuse a data-only eSIM or a foreign IP address, so keep your home SIM reachable for codes.

Free eSIM Data for the United Kingdom

Yes, there is free data for the UK, and one offer is unusually generous: GigSky says that since 1 April 2026 a qualifying Visa card unlocks a complimentary UK plan covering England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and dozens of the GigSky reviews we read came from travelers using it, with mixed results in London and Scotland. GigSky also gives a small free trial in its app. Roamless lists a free UK trial eSIM in our comparison tool, and reviewers mention free data on arrival at Heathrow. Nomad flags its 1 GB UK plan for 3 days as a trial plan, GoMoWorld offers a free one-day trial, and Jetpac ships a free eSIM with a small starter allowance. Summary: the best eSIM for the United Kingdom

Based on 1,076 traveler reports and our own tests, we recommend Jetpac for most UK trips: it worked well for 37 of 38 travelers, with signal in Cornish coastal towns where locals had none, and its one weakness is a rough app and a price above the UK market average. Roamless (27 of 28) is the option for light users crossing several countries, with credit that never expires but dear rates above 10 GB. Holafly (142 of 148) had the best record in Scotland and on the islands, at the cost of capped speeds and the dearest unlimited plans. Global YO (30 of 32) is the cheapest pick here and went 9 of 9 in London, but it is 4G only.
