Global YO is a US eSIM provider aimed at young travelers: one app with some of the cheapest data plans on the market, in-app calling and a rewards currency. Its weak spot is customer support, quick to answer but slow to help once the standard steps fail.

Pros and cons
Global YO eSIM in our hands
This Global YO review is based on an eSIM we bought with our own money. We ran the same eight checks on the same Android phone we use for every provider. Global YO scored 8.0 out of 10, and price is the headline. It is the second cheapest of 12 fixed-data providers in our price data, with the cheapest plan in 41% of comparisons.
The rest is a mix. Buying and installing worked right away, speeds were good, and the app is polished if cluttered. Customer support, and traveler reports from East Asia, India and the US, are where Global YO falls behind. Below is what we saw, what Global YO claims, and what the price and coverage data say.
Global YO also sells itself as more than an eSIM. The app bundles data plans with a rewards currency (YOYO$), in-app calling, live shows and an NFT wallet [2]. If you want a plain eSIM, you can ignore all of it. If you like the idea, it sets Global YO apart from the providers we compare.

Global YO purchase process
Purchase process
App-only purchase and a second email entry cost points. Sign-up with Google, Facebook or Apple, Google Pay and instant email delivery earned them.
Verdict: easy once you have the app, but you cannot buy anywhere else, and the checkout asks for your email twice.
Global YO is app-only. Pick it in our comparison tool and the link opens Google Play or the App Store, not a checkout page. You cannot buy an eSIM without installing the app. That fits the young, app-first image Global YO goes for, but it adds a few minutes before you can buy.
How to buy a Global YO eSIM
- Install the app from Google Play or the App Store. The buttons on the website point there too [1].
- Create an account with Facebook, Google or Apple, which skips the form. An email address and password also work [3].
- Pick a destination and a plan. When we bought, the list opened with the biggest and most expensive package, 200 GB. Every other provider starts small.
- Add calls if you want them. The checkout offered us calls for about $3, similar to the voice packs Jetpac sells. We did not test them.
- Enter your email again. The app already has it, so this step felt unnecessary.
- Pay. Google Pay worked for us. Global YO also lists Visa, Mastercard and Apple Pay [1].
- Check your inbox. The eSIM arrived by email right after payment.
Global YO payment methods, currency and fees
Global YO lists Mastercard, Visa, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and nothing else [1]. There is no PayPal, and American Express, Discover and JCB are not mentioned. Prices show a dollar sign only; the pages never state the currency code [6].
Two more things to know before you pay. The homepage FAQ says the eSIM is free, then adds a "$0.70 cent activation fee (Euros)" for one year of validity [1]. The wording muddles the currency, and no plan page mentions the fee.
You can also pay part of a plan with YOYO$, the app's reward points. The FAQ and plan pages say up to 50% [2] [6]; the terms say up to 100% [3]. First eSIM? Check that your phone takes one before you buy, with our guide to buying and installing a first eSIM.
Global YO mobile app
Mobile app
Native and polished, but the map screen and extras like Magic Radio clutter it, and the app stops working once your data runs out.
Verdict: native and polished, cluttered with extras you did not ask for, and useless once your data runs out.
The app is where everything happens: buying, installing, topping up and checking your balance. It feels native and polished, and the eSIM screens are clear.
The trouble starts on the map screen. It is aimed squarely at Gen Z, and we found it hard to find our way around. It carries options we could not place, like Magic Switzerland, Magic Radio and YoMap. It is a lot to take in.
What the Global YO app does besides eSIMs
- YOYO$ rewards. You earn 1 YOYO$ per minute in the app [2] and 5 to 30% back on plans, 20% on most [6]. Global YO's App Store listing also advertises a 1,500 YOYO$ sign-up bonus.
- YO SHOUT calls. VoIP calls to any number worldwide; incoming calls only from other app users [2].
- Yolanda. An in-app assistant for eSIM questions and travel tips [2].
- Extras. The FAQ covers live shows, watch parties and exporting NFTs from the in-app wallet [2].
- Languages. The App Store listing names English, French, German, Hindi, Simplified Chinese, Spanish and Traditional Chinese. The website is English only [1].
The app holds 4.5 on the App Store (570 ratings) and 3.8 on Google Play (5,360 ratings). The website's homepage shows 4.5 and 4.6 next to the store badges [1].
Global YO app stops working when data runs out
This is the one app flaw that can cost you. When our data ran out, the app stopped working, so we could not buy more from it. GigSky, by comparison, keeps its app open for purchases after the data is gone. Buy your top-up while you still have data, or on Wi-Fi.
There is a little leniency. Our 500 MB package ran out at about 520 MB, not at exactly the package size. Still, size the plan right from the start: our guide to how much data you need for a trip helps.
Global YO eSIM installation
eSIM installation
Installed in the app and switched on by itself. Only moving mobile data over to the eSIM was manual. Worked right away.
Verdict: the smoothest part of our test. The app installed the eSIM and switched it on; we only had to move mobile data over to it.
Installation ran inside the app, and the app turned the eSIM on by itself. Saily, for example, leaves that step to you. The eSIM then worked right away, with no troubleshooting.
The one manual step is switching mobile data from your physical SIM to the new eSIM. Forget it and your home SIM keeps roaming at your home operator's rates. Our physical SIM stayed active next to the eSIM; we only moved mobile data over.
How to install a Global YO eSIM
- Buy the plan in the app and wait for the email. The eSIM is delivered in the app, on the web or as a QR code by email [6].
- Install from the app on Wi-Fi. The app adds the eSIM and switches it on.
- Set mobile data to the Global YO eSIM in your phone's SIM settings. The app does not do this for you.
- Activate when you are ready. Global YO says to activate in the app on Wi-Fi. If you install before a trip, the plan starts only after you arrive [2].
- No data? Set the APN to globaldata, the value Global YO gives for manual setup [2].
A deleted eSIM cannot be reinstalled or moved to another phone; you have to buy a new one [2]. Our guides for adding an eSIM on iPhone and on a Samsung phone cover the phone side.
Which phones work with a Global YO eSIM
Global YO's compatibility page is dated August 2026 [5]. It does not say the phone must be carrier-unlocked, though a Global YO blog article does, so check that before you buy. Our list of phones with eSIM is another place to look.
- Phones: Apple, Google Pixel, Honor, Motorola, OnePlus, Oppo, Samsung, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi, Nokia, Asus, Realme, Nothing, TCL, Infinix, Fairphone and T-Mobile Revvl [5].
- Tablets: Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi [5].
- Newest models named: iPhone 17 series, iPhone 17e, iPhone Air, Samsung Galaxy S26 series, Z Fold8 and Z Flip8 [5].
- Exceptions: some regional models, for example iPhones from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao [5].
Global YO eSIM not working? Try this first
- Check which SIM carries mobile data. In our test the eSIM was on, but mobile data still pointed at the physical SIM until we switched it.
- Check your balance in the app. If the data ran out, the app stops working too; top up on Wi-Fi.
- Set the APN to globaldata and restart the phone [2].
- Still nothing? Open the chat in the app. Expect a generic template first and say which steps you have already done.
Our eSIM troubleshooting guide covers the checks that apply to every provider.
Global YO customer support
Customer support
A first reply in 10 minutes, but a long generic template, then over 30 minutes for a follow-up once the standard steps failed.
Verdict: quick to answer, slow to help. A generic template first, then more than 30 minutes of waiting once we said it had not worked.
Support is where Global YO lost the most points. The first reply was fast, but it was one long troubleshooting message covering every case and every device, oddly formatted. Once we said we had already done those steps, the follow-up took well over 30 minutes. For a traveler standing at an airport, that gap matters more than the quick first hello.
How our Global YO support test went
- We opened the chat and described an eSIM problem.
- A reply arrived within 10 minutes. We missed it at first, because the chat page did not update until we refreshed it.
- The reply was a long generic guide covering every device and every case. We would have hoped for help specific to our phone.
- We said the steps had not worked. The next reply took well over 30 minutes.
How to contact Global YO
- Chat in the app. This is what we used. Refresh the page to see new replies.
- Email: [email protected], printed in the footer of every page [1].
- Contact form, reached through the Contact Us link in the footer [1].
- Yolanda, the in-app assistant for eSIM and travel questions [2].
- No phone number, WhatsApp or support hours are listed anywhere on the site.
Customers describe the same two faces. The agents, called Ninjas, are often praised by name for fixing problems quickly. Other reviews describe slow, template replies and tickets closed without a fix.
If you want help you can rely on, eSIM4Travel and Airalo were clearly better in our tests. eSIM4Travel and Saily both scored 10 for support, against 5 for Global YO. Our ranking of the best eSIM customer support has the details.
Global YO speed test
Speed test
74 Mbps download and 72 Mbps upload in the first run, over 150 Mbps download in the second.
Verdict: 74 Mbps down and 72 Mbps up, then over 150 Mbps download on a second run. Fast enough for video calls and streaming.
We run every speed test from our base in Czechia, so the result measures Global YO's setup rather than a holiday network. Global YO delivered 74 Mbps download and 72 Mbps upload in the first run. The second run passed 150 Mbps download. The near-symmetric first result is good news for video calls and photo backups.
| Measurement | Result |
|---|---|
| Download, first run | 74 Mbps |
| Upload, first run | 72 Mbps |
| Download, second run | over 150 Mbps |
Does Global YO have 5G?
Not according to its own pages. Every plan page says 4G/LTE, and 5G is not mentioned anywhere we reviewed [6] [7]. The terms add that the network mode (3G, 4G or 5G) depends on the local operator, congestion and infrastructure [3]. One Trustpilot reviewer reported 5G in both the US and the UK, so you may get it in practice.
The plan pages name the local network: AT&T in the US [6] and KDDI in Japan [7]. If 5G matters to you, read our 4G vs 5G guide first. Our 4G vs LTE explainer covers the difference between those two.
Global YO prices and plan sizes
Prices
Second cheapest of 12 providers and below the market median in 165 of 180 countries. The bigger the package, the bigger the lead.
Verdict: the second-cheapest provider we compare, and the bigger the package, the bigger its lead. Short 1 GB plans are the exception.
Price is the reason to buy Global YO. In our price data as of 2 Oct 2026 it is the second cheapest of 12 fixed-data providers, behind only eSIM4Travel. It sits below the market median in 165 of 180 countries. It had the cheapest plan in 41% of like-for-like comparisons and the dearest in only 2%.
In the 24 most searched destinations it is one of the two cheapest providers in 22. In our test India stood out: Global YO had the most competitive price for nearly every package. In the current data it is still among the two cheapest there, behind GoMoWorld. See our India eSIM guide, or check 5 GB plans for India in the comparison tool.
Global YO plan sizes and typical prices
Global YO sells the same seven-step ladder in almost every country, and validity grows with size. The medians below come from our price data as of 2 Oct 2026. The per-GB column is the median price divided by the data.
| Plan | Validity | Median price | Per GB |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | 3 days | $5.89 | $5.89 |
| 3 GB | 15 days | $10.99 | $3.66 |
| 5 GB | 15 days | $11.19 | $2.24 |
| 10 GB | 30 days | $15.39 | $1.54 |
| 20 GB | 30 days | $23.09 | $1.15 |
| 50 GB | 45 days | $35.69 | $0.71 |
| 100 GB | 60 days | $51.79 | $0.52 |
Two things stand out in the ladder. In 79% of countries 5 GB costs the same as 3 GB or less, so skip 3 GB. The 1 GB plan lasts only 3 days and sits 19% above the market median for short trips. For a week with little data, another provider may be cheaper.
The large steps are where the discount lives: 10 to 20 GB costs 1.5 times as much. 20 to 50 GB costs 1.6 times, or $0.46 per extra GB. 50 to 100 GB costs 1.46 times, or $0.34 per extra GB. Our cheapest eSIM comparison shows how that compares across providers.
What a Global YO eSIM costs in the US, Japan and Europe
These prices come from the US [6], Japan [7] and Europe Explorer [8] plan pages, read on 7 Oct 2026. All are in US dollars. Nearly every plan shows a crossed-out "original" price next to a "Limited time" one; the table shows the discounted price.
| Plan | USA | Japan | Europe Explorer (42 countries) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 GB / 3 days | $2.08 | $2.68 | $2.08 |
| 3 GB / 15 days | $5.34 | $5.34 | $5.34 |
| 5 GB / 15 days | $8.54 | $9.34 | $8.54 |
| 10 GB / 30 days | $11.74 | $12.54 | $11.74 |
| 20 GB / 30 days | $19.54 | $21.34 | $19.54 |
| 50 GB / 45 days | $33.04 | $34.84 | $33.04 |
| 100 GB / 60 days | $47.44 | $51.04 | $47.44 |
Off-network destinations cost far more. Cuba, on the ETECSA network, charges $23.64 for 1 GB over 3 days, more than eleven times the US price [10]. For a smaller destination, check Global YO and eSIM4Travel side by side in our comparison tool before you buy.
Global YO regional and global Explorer plans
Regional plans are cheap too: the Europe plan sits 40% below the median for Europe plans and the Asia plan 18% below. The global plans sit 52% below, the cheapest global fixed-data plans we track. The homepage lists eight regional Explorer plans and two global ones with these starting prices [1]. No plan page names the countries included [1].
| Plan | Countries | From |
|---|---|---|
| Europe Explorer | 42 | $1.94 |
| North America Explorer | 3 | $3.44 |
| Asia Explorer | 24 | $2.94 |
| SEA-Oceania Explorer | 8 | $2.44 |
| Africa Explorer | 10 | $4.49 |
| Middle East Explorer | 12 | $3.49 |
| Caribbean Explorer | 21 | $3.49 |
| Latin America Explorer | 17 | $3.49 |
| Global Explorer 100 | 100 | $3.44 |
| Global Explorer 150 | 148 | $5.44 |
The Global Explorer 100 page goes further than the country ladder. It offers 10 GB for 180 days at $20.54 [9]. The 20 GB, 50 GB and 100 GB plans last 365 days and cost $35.74, $62.74 and $98.74 [9]. For someone who travels several times a year, one long global plan can replace a string of country plans.
Global YO Day Plans, Premium and Unlimited
Global YO sells no unlimited plans, and every plan page has an Unlimited tab with nothing in it [6]. The FAQ describes an Unlimited plan with 1 GB a day at high speed, after which some partner networks reduce speed [2]. Instead it sells "Day Plans" in about 126 countries for 3, 7, 15 or 30 days, flagged as throttled. Their names say 3 GB a day but the description says 1 GB, so the allowance is unclear.
Each plan page also has a Premium tab with a price for 3, 7, 15 and 30 days but no data allowance [6]. No page explains it, and whether Premium and Day Plans are the same thing, the site does not say. The table shows the median Day Plan price in our data next to the Premium price on the US page.
| Length | Day Plan, median price | Premium, US page |
|---|---|---|
| 3 days | $9.74 | $10.54 [6] |
| 7 days | $17.24 | $18.64 [6] |
| 15 days | $28.49 | $29.44 [6] |
| 30 days | $42.74 | $44.74 [6] |
For most people the 50 GB, 45-day plan is the better deal. At a median $35.69 it costs less than a 30-day Day Plan, and the allowance is clear.
Where Global YO is cheapest: popular destinations
The table shows how far below the market median Global YO sits in some of the most searched destinations. The figure covers all data sizes and trip lengths; the last column says who is cheaper. Global YO customer feedback
Customer feedback
Customers praise the low prices and easy setup. The recurring complaints are eSIMs that never activate and slow, template-based support.
Verdict: customers agree on the low prices and the easy setup, and split on support. Trustpilot 4.0, App Store 4.5, Google Play 3.8.
Global YO holds 4.0 on Trustpilot (1,293 reviews), 4.5 on the App Store (570 ratings) and 3.8 on Google Play (5,360 ratings). The praise lines up with our test: cheap plans and an eSIM that is easy to install. So does the main complaint, slow and template-based support. Customers also report eSIMs that never activate, which we did not see.
One thing the box below cannot show is how its countries line up with our traveler reports. Customers name Turkey, Italy, the UK, Mexico, Spain and Canada as places where it worked well. Most of those are also Global YO's strongest countries in the coverage section. For the method and the other providers, see our analysis of customer reviews of the top eSIM providers.
Is Global YO legit?
Yes. Global YO is run by YOVERSE INC., a subsidiary of Yonder Media Mobile Inc., based in the Bronx, New York [3]. It has 1,293 Trustpilot reviews, and we bought, installed and used its eSIM without a hitch. The things to watch are support quality, which we and customers both found wanting, and failures reported in a few countries.

Perfect service at an affordable price. Reliable, easy to configure, and with virtually no downtime. The reception is excellent, and everything works exactly as expected. This is the second time I've used this service, and I've already recommended it to others. I would definitely choose it again.
I have used this service a few times now, easy connection, no dropouts. In the US uses LTE+ and 5G, in the UK 4G and 5G. Piece of advice, sign up and watch for the offers. You can buy an esim 180 days before you need it. You can even install it. It won't activate until you get to your destination.
My eSIM didn't work and I took contact to support. Ninja Anastasia gave me really clear and good instructions on what to do. With the help of the instructions my eSIM works again.
I ordered a sim and installed it on a Google pixel 8. when installed it did not activate. I've now spent 2 days trying to get it activated with support but they have been slow to respond and keep sending me their troubleshooting guides which I have been working through multiple times. They are avoiding providing a refund or re-issuing another eSim. I wouldn't bother again with them.

Global YO coverage
Coverage
Plans in 195 countries. Traveler reports are strong in Mexico and southern Europe, weaker in East Asia, India and the US.
Verdict: plans in 195 countries at low prices. Traveler reports sit below the market average overall; Mexico and southern Europe are its strong spots.
Global YO advertises 200+ countries on its homepage [1]. There is no coverage page, and no plan page names the countries it includes [1]. We could confirm 129 destinations on the site; its biggest plan, Global Explorer 150, covers 148 [1]. The FAQ lists 114 countries with 4G LTE coverage [2].
Our comparison tool lists Global YO plans for 195 countries, 182 of them with a single-country plan. Traveler reports tell a mixed story. Of 672 country-level reports, 548 (81.5%) said the eSIM worked, below the 85.3% average across all 14 providers.
Mexico (26 of 27 reports) and southern Europe (80 of 84) are its strongest regions. East Asia (47 of 67), India (6 of 15), Vietnam (10 of 15) and the US (41 of 53) are its weakest. Carry a backup there.
The box below shows Global YO's traveler reports by country and region, next to the other providers in the same places. The figure is the share of reports that said the eSIM worked. Treat countries with only a few reports as anecdotal. Our Mexico, Italy and Spain guides show how it compares where it is strongest; the Japan guide covers where it is weakest.
Global YO terms and conditions
Verdict: terms written in Global YO's favor, with refund rules that contradict the FAQ.
Global YO's terms are governed by New York law [3]. The point to watch is refunds. The FAQ promises a full refund within 30 days for an unused, unactivated eSIM, paid within up to 30 business days [2]. The terms say purchases are generally non-refundable once delivered, except where consumer law or app-store rules require one [3].
You must be 18 to buy or pay [3], and no ID check is needed for the eSIM itself [6]. The terms carry no effective date; the privacy policy says "Last updated: July 2026 (interim)" [4]. That policy names no data-protection officer, no regulator and no fixed retention periods [4]. The box below sums up the clauses that matter.
What's in the Global YO terms and conditions
Terms that mostly favor Global YO. Four clauses can cost you money or your eSIM, and four work in your favor.
Opens in a new tab- Red flag: Purchases are generally non-refundableOnce a product is delivered, the terms allow no refund unless consumer law or the app store you bought through requires one.
- Red flag: Follow the activation instructions, or the purchase is on youIf the QR code and instructions are not followed correctly, Global YO says it is not responsible for the purchase.
- Red flag: Recurring charges run until you get a cancellation confirmationYou cancel a subscription by contacting Global YO; without a confirmation the cancellation may not be effective and charges may continue.
- Red flag: No liability for network, device or data failuresGlobal YO excludes liability for breakdowns, delays and lost or corrupted communications, except where the law does not allow such exclusions.
- Watch out: New York courts only, and no class actionsNew York law applies, class actions are waived and there is no arbitration clause; mandatory consumer rights in your own country are preserved.
- Watch out: Your data works on one device at a timeYou can log in on several devices, but purchased data and media run on one; connect a second and service moves to it.
- Watch out: Sign-up asks for more than an emailRegistration requires full name, gender, date of birth, address, email and mobile number; location and linked social accounts can also be collected with consent.
- Watch out: YOYO$ are points, not moneyThey have no value outside the app; cashing out to a Bancus Visa card needs 1,000 YOYO$, a 4% Bancus fee, and is final.
- Fair: Your personal data is not soldThe privacy policy states Global YO does not sell personal data and lists GDPR, UK and US-state rights to access, correct and delete it.
- Fair: Advance notice before the terms are updatedMaterial updates come with reasonable advance notice by website, app or email, and you can stop using the service if you disagree.

Global YO review summary
Verdict: 8.0 out of 10. Buy Global YO for the price. Install it at home, test it, and do not count on support to rescue a trip.
Global YO is quite often the cheapest offer, and that is why it scores 8.0 in this Global YO review. Buying took minutes, the app installed and switched on the eSIM by itself, data worked right away and speeds were good. The app is polished, if cluttered with extras aimed at a Gen Z audience. YOYO$ rewards take a bit more off the next plan.
The weak spots are clear too. Support answered in 10 minutes but sent a generic template, then left us waiting well over 30 minutes. The app stops working when data runs out, and traveler reports in East Asia, India and the US are below average. See how it ranks against the rest in our tested comparison of eSIM providers.
Buy Global YO if
- You want the lowest price, especially for 10 GB or more, or for a regional or global plan.
- You are going to Mexico, Spain, Italy, the UK or Canada, where traveler reports are strongest.
- You like an app with extras, rewards, radio and calling included, and do not mind a busy interface.
- You can install at home and test before you fly, so support is a last resort rather than a first.
Look elsewhere if
- You want fast, device-specific support when something breaks. eSIM4Travel and Saily scored 10 for support.
- You are heading to Japan, South Korea, India, Vietnam or the US without a backup. Failures there are reported more often than average.
- You need unlimited data, a phone number or PayPal. Global YO offers none of the three.
- You prefer buying on a website without installing an app.
