GigSky is a US travel eSIM that behaves like its own operator, with an app that stays partly online after your data runs out and rare cruise and in-flight plans. Its fixed-data plans are the most expensive of the 12 providers we compared.

Pros and cons
GigSky eSIM in our hands
This GigSky eSIM review is based on a plan we bought with our own money and tested on the same Android phone we use for every provider. GigSky scored 7.5 out of 10, with customer support (9) and eSIM installation (8) as its strongest categories and the app (6) and speed (6) as its weakest. The score is the plain average of eight categories, five from our hands-on test and three from our data.
GigSky is different from most travel eSIMs in one way: it runs like its own virtual operator. You see "GigSky" in the status bar, and the app stays partly online after your data runs out, so you can buy a new plan without Wi-Fi. It also sells cruise, ferry and in-flight plans that few rivals have.
The trade-off is price. As of October 2026, GigSky is the most expensive provider for fixed data in our price database, at a median $4.48 per GB. Below you will find how to buy, install and troubleshoot it, what it costs in general, and where travelers report it working.

GigSky purchase process: how to buy a GigSky eSIM
Purchase process
Google sign-in helps, but you must install the app, the form asks more than rivals and there is no Google Pay.
Verdict: Buying works, but only through the app, and it asks for more details than most providers.
Can you buy a GigSky eSIM without the app?
Not in our test. When we clicked the GigSky link in our comparison, we were sent straight to Google Play or the App Store. We found no way to buy the eSIM without installing the app first. We would normally hold that against a provider, but GigSky promises its app keeps a connection after your data runs out, and that promise held up later in the test.
GigSky's help center says you buy in the app or in a web app and then install the eSIM through the app [3] [4]. Older help pages mention QR codes and activation codes for web purchases. If you end up with a code instead of a QR, you can turn an activation code into a QR code in a minute.
How to buy a GigSky eSIM in 5 steps
- Install the app from Google Play or the App Store, or open the web app.
- Create an account. GigSky's sign-up asks for your full name, email, password and country of residence, then sends a verification link. You can also sign in with Google or Apple, which we used, and GigSky asks you to keep using the method you signed up with. No ID document is mentioned anywhere in the sign-up rules.
- Pick a destination and plan. The full country list of each plan sits under the plan details in the app, not on the website.
- Pay. GigSky takes credit and debit cards, Apple Pay if it is set up on your device, and PayPal where it appears [7]. There was no Google Pay option in our test, so we had to type in the full card details.
- Install the eSIM from the app and keep it switched off until you travel, because the plan starts on its first connection in a covered country [4].
The whole flow felt less smooth than at other providers, mainly because GigSky asks for a bit more information. Google sign-in saves some typing. If this is your first eSIM, our five-step guide to checking compatibility, buying and installing walks you through the basics.
GigSky payment methods, currencies and taxes
- Cards: credit and debit cards, which the app can save for later [7]. GigSky does not list which card brands it takes.
- Apple Pay: yes, when set up on the device [7].
- PayPal: "may" appear, depending on your device [7].
- Google Pay: not offered in our test and not mentioned anywhere on GigSky's pages, despite the Android app.
- Crypto: GigSky's help center says you can pick "eWallets, Crypto and More" at checkout and pay in USDC (Ethereum, Solana, Polygon) or USDP (Ethereum, Solana), always charged in USD.
- GigSky Credit: credit from refunds, gift cards or promo codes is applied automatically. GigSky says it never expires, has no cash value and cannot be transferred.
You can be billed in USD, CAD, EUR, GBP or JPY [7], and the purchase FAQs add BRL [4]. The default currency follows your country of residence, with USD for everyone else, and you can change it under Profile Details. Taxes are not mentioned on any page we read, so expect the price you see.
Two more rules worth knowing before you pay. Your first purchase authorizes GigSky to debit the same card for later purchases or top-ups on that eSIM [1]. And GigSky says that in some countries it is not allowed to sell local plans to residents, so you may not be able to buy a plan for your home country.
GigSky refunds: what the terms say and what the help center does
The consumer terms are blunt: plans and top-ups cannot be returned, and unused data is not refunded, whether or not the plan was activated [1]. The help center is friendlier. You open Transaction History, pick the purchase and tap "Request Refund" [11]. Some requests are settled instantly, others go to support for review [8].
GigSky reviews each request case by case, looking at the type of issue, whether the plan was activated or used, and what troubleshooting you did [8]. Money goes back to your card, which takes several business days, or to GigSky Credit, which is immediate [12]. Duplicate purchases can be refunded, and a plan bought for the wrong device can be self-refunded so you can buy again.
No page states a deadline for requesting a refund or a statutory withdrawal right. GigSky One subscriptions are non-refundable, except that a plan used under 1 GB because of a service problem may be refunded at GigSky's discretion [1].
GigSky mobile app on Android and iOS
Mobile app
Stays partly online after your data runs out, which no rival does. Otherwise a packaged website with a confusing Visa tab.
Verdict: Unpolished, but with one trick nobody else has.
The GigSky app works after your data runs out
This is the feature that justifies forcing you into the app. Once our plan was used up, the GigSky app still had a connection of sorts and let us buy another plan. It is slow and does not feel stable, but it is real, and none of the competition we tested can do it.
The reason is that GigSky is more of a virtual operator than a reseller. Its own name shows in the status bar, which is unusual for a travel eSIM. The one gap: the help chat went offline in that state, probably because it runs on a separate service inside the app.
What else the GigSky app does
- One eSIM, many plans. You keep the same eSIM and add plans to it; several plans can sit on it, but only one per destination is "In Use" at a time [3].
- Usage alerts and top-ups. GigSky says the app warns you at 80% usage and sells top-ups for eligible plans; free Visa plans cannot be topped up and there is no auto top-up.
- Subscription control. GigSky One is canceled in the app under My Plans, View Details, Cancel Subscription [6].
- Account deletion. Self-service under Account Details, or by email to [email protected] [1].
- Language: English only, according to the App Store listing.
Where the GigSky app falls short
The app is not the most polished one. In the middle of the main menu bar sits "Visa Benefits", and we had no idea what it had to do with our eSIM. The explanation is a partnership: GigSky's help center says eligible Visa cardholders get free data in 175+ countries, unlimited data in selected destinations for 7 days (Visa Infinite) or 3 days (other cards), and 20% to 30% off further plans. Useful if you hold such a card, clutter if you do not.
The whole thing feels like a website packaged into a mobile app rather than a native one. The chat is slow and it is easy to press something you did not mean to. Also, the ICCID is not shown next to the plan, as it is at Airalo, Holafly or Global YO, so when support asks for it you have to dig through your phone settings.
Store ratings reflect the split: 4.5 out of 5 on the App Store from 1,100 ratings, but 3.9 on Google Play from 4,470. The screenshots below show the main screens from our test.
GigSky eSIM installation
eSIM installation
Installs from the app in a few taps. You must name your device, and our data needed a SIM toggle to start.
Verdict: Installing is easy; getting the first bytes to flow took a little troubleshooting.
How to install a GigSky eSIM
- Open the plan in the app and tap install. We liked that the app also offers other methods for installing the eSIM on a different device.
- Name your device. The app insists on a device name before it continues. We do not understand why, but it only takes a second.
- Let the profile install. The APN is "gigsky" [3]; the terms say the eSIM works only on unlocked devices that can use GigSky's APN [1].
- Keep the eSIM switched off until you arrive, so the plan does not activate early [4].
- At your destination, turn the eSIM on and select it for mobile data. Your home SIM can stay active for calls and texts [3].
If you are new to the process, we have screen-by-screen guides for adding an eSIM on an iPhone and adding an eSIM on a Samsung. GigSky's help center puts the install itself inside the app, so those guides mostly help with the phone-side settings.
GigSky eSIM not working? Try this first
In our test the data did not start working right away. It took turning our physical SIM off and on again, the first fix in our guide to an eSIM that will not connect. After that, GigSky appeared in the status bar and the data flowed. If you are stuck, go through these in order:
- Toggle the physical SIM off and on, or switch airplane mode on and off.
- Restart the phone. Our speeds also jumped after a restart (see the speed test).
- Check the basics: the GigSky eSIM is on, selected for mobile data, data roaming is on and the APN reads "gigsky".
- On a cruise, switch off 5G-only mode. GigSky says the ships' networks run on 2G, 3G and 4G and phones set to 5G only cannot connect [10].
- Find your ICCID before you contact support. It is not next to the plan in the app, so look under the SIM details in your phone settings.
When a GigSky plan starts and how long it waits
Validity starts at activation, meaning the first connection in a covered country, not at purchase [4]. One help page says plans expire a set number of days from purchase, which contradicts that, so treat the activation rule as the one GigSky repeats most. Plans cannot be paused; leaving the country or switching the eSIM off does not stop the clock, though support may extend a plan that activated early [4].
How long an unactivated plan stays valid is not stated anywhere we could find. Cruise + Land plans deserve extra care: GigSky says they can activate in your home country as soon as the eSIM is downloaded, so keep the eSIM off until you need it [10].
Which phones work with a GigSky eSIM
GigSky lists iPhone XS and XR and newer, many Samsung Galaxy S and Z models, the Note20 series, some Galaxy A phones and many Google Pixel models [9]. Most iPhones sold in mainland China do not work, and the quick check is to dial *#06# and look for an EID [9]. Our list of phones with eSIM support covers the rest of the market.
A few device rules: the phone must be carrier-unlocked [1], the eSIM cannot be moved to another device (you ask support for a new one), and eSIM adapters like eSIM.me, 5ber, 9eSIM and GL.iNet routers are not guaranteed to work [9]. GigSky has discontinued plastic SIMs for consumers, and its help center says support for the legacy Apple SIM in iPads was set to end on 31 Mar 2026.
GigSky customer support
Customer support
A real person answered at once and stayed responsive. The chat is clunky and screenshot upload failed.
Verdict: Fast human help, delivered through a clumsy chat window.
How to contact GigSky support
- Live chat: an Intercom widget in the app and on every page of gigsky.com. This is what we used.
- Request form: on the contact page and in the help center.
- Email: [email protected], with a reply promised within 24 hours on GigSky's contact page.
- Phone: two US numbers appear only on the Google Play listing; neither help center shows a phone line, and no page we read mentions WhatsApp.
- Hours: not stated anywhere we read.
What happened when we contacted GigSky support
- Form first. Before the chat opens, you fill in your name, email and a description of the issue.
- Warning, then a human. A message said GigSky had a high volume of contacts and asked for patience. A real person answered right away, so we suspect the warning is always there. Do not let it put you off.
- Same questions again. The agent asked for the problem, full name, email and purchase details. We were chatting from inside the app, so this was the third time we gave details GigSky already had.
- Screenshot failed. We tried to send a screenshot through the support chat, and that feature simply did not work.
- Technical turn. The instructions got technical fast, including a request for our ICCID. The app does not show it, so we had to hunt for it in the phone settings.
- Solved it ourselves. In the end our own troubleshooting guide got the eSIM online faster than the chat did.
The chat is not well thought out: it is slow, and you can easily tap something you did not want. That fits the rest of the app, which feels like a website wrapped in a mobile shell. The person on the other side, though, was very responsive, and that is what the score rewards.
One limit to plan for: after our data ran out, the app stayed partly online but the help chat went offline. So if you need support at that point, you will need Wi-Fi. For context on how GigSky's support compares, see the three best eSIM support teams we tested.
GigSky speed test
Speed test
114 Mbps down after a restart, in line with rivals, but first readings were low and the connection felt unstable.
Verdict: Average after a restart, slow before it, and 5G made no difference.
GigSky speed test results
Our first measurements were surprisingly low. We eventually got 40 Mbps down and 40 Mbps up, then restarted the phone to give GigSky a fair shot. After the restart the numbers matched what other providers give us from the same spot.
| Measurement | First attempt | After phone restart |
|---|---|---|
| Download | 40 Mbps | 114 Mbps |
| Upload | 40 Mbps | 16 Mbps |
| Network shown | GigSky, 5G, 5 bars, clear line of sight to the mast | Same |
| Data cut-off | Connection stopped at 537 MB used, a little after the plan's cap | |
Does 5G matter on a GigSky eSIM?
Not in practice. We were on a 5G network with full bars and a clear view of the transmitter, yet 114 Mbps is far below the theoretical maximum of 4G. In the same situation the tester's own Swiss 5G plan from Sunrise gets close to a gigabit. So whether a travel eSIM plan advertises 5G matters less than you would think (see our take on 4G vs 5G).
Customers say the same thing in their reviews: many report being stuck on LTE, 3G or Edge rather than 5G, and some describe drops lasting hours even in big cities. Our connection also felt unstable, which is why GigSky scores a 6 here despite the decent peak number.
GigSky unlimited speeds and cruise speeds
Unlimited land plans give 3.5 GB a day at high speed, after which speed drops but the connection stays up; the allowance resets 24 hours after activation [5]. GigSky never states the reduced speed. Heavy streaming, gaming and file sharing are the uses most likely to be slowed [5]. The terms add that GigSky may reduce speed at any time and that the reduced speed varies with coverage and congestion [1].
At sea, expect much less. GigSky says cruise plans typically run at 700 Kbps to 4 Mbps over 2G, 3G or 4G, with latency of about 80 to 90 ms on Starlink-equipped ships and about 700 ms on VSAT [10]. Congestion is common for about 20 minutes after the ship's network comes back on [10].
GigSky prices: what a GigSky eSIM costs
Prices
Dearest fixed-data provider in our database. Cheap 1-day unlimited passes and long-validity 20 GB and 50 GB plans save some points.
Verdict: Expensive for ordinary fixed-data plans, cheap for 1-day unlimited passes.
As of October 2026, our price database holds 1,101 GigSky plans across 193 countries: 949 fixed-data plans and 152 unlimited ones. The median single-country fixed plan costs $17.99, which works out to $4.48 per GB, the highest per-GB price of any provider in the file.
Throughout this section we use a price index. It compares GigSky's cheapest suitable plan with the median of all providers for the same country, data amount and trip length: 1.00 is the market median, 0.80 is 20% cheaper and 1.20 is 20% dearer. GigSky's index is 1.24 for 7- and 15-day trips and 1.35 for 30-day trips, so the gap grows with trip length.
GigSky plan sizes and median prices
GigSky sells the same short ladder almost everywhere: 1 GB for 7 days, 3 GB for 15 days, and 5 GB and 10 GB for 30 days. In about 40 countries it adds 20 GB for 90 days and 50 GB for 180 days. The medians below are across all its single-country plans, as of October 2026.
| Plan | Validity | Median price | Per GB |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 days | $5.99 | $5.99 |
| 3 GB | 15 days | $15.99 | $5.33 |
| 5 GB | 30 days | $23.99 | $4.80 |
| 10 GB | 30 days | $38.29 | $3.83 |
| Unlimited, 1-day pass | 1 day | $5.49 (range $3.49 to $7.99) | 3.5 GB at full speed |
The ladder gets steep in the middle. Going from 1 GB to 3 GB costs 2.4 times as much (+$9.50), 3 GB to 5 GB 1.6 times (+$8.30), and 5 GB to 10 GB 1.7 times (+$12.50, or $2.50 per extra GB). Above that it turns generous: 10 GB to 20 GB costs 1.55 times (+$7.70) and adds 60 days of validity, and 20 GB to 50 GB costs 1.7 times (+$14.90, about $0.50 per extra GB).
Note that 1,100 of the 1,101 plans carried a 10% or 15% discount label when we captured prices, so some of these may be promotions. If you are not sure which size to pick, work out how much data you need for a trip first; GigSky punishes buying the next size up more than most.
Where GigSky is cheap and where it is expensive
GigSky is below the market median in only 14 of 185 countries. Its best deals are small islands and a few European countries: Vanuatu (index 0.54, about half the market price), Saint Barthélemy (0.60), Switzerland (0.77), Saint Martin (0.78), and the UK, French Guiana and Sweden (0.82). Saint Barthélemy is the only country where it is the cheapest provider in most comparisons. In Thailand it is the third-cheapest provider (0.92).
At the other end the gaps are huge, mostly in Asia and Africa:
- Tunisia: 7.45 times the market median; 5 GB costs $80.49 where others charge $6.00 to $22.00.
- Singapore: 5.09 times; 3 GB costs $27.49 against $2.00 to $11.00 elsewhere.
- Morocco: 4.80 times, followed by Uzbekistan (4.67), Pakistan (4.66), Laos (4.54), the Philippines (4.50), Belarus (3.98), Nepal (3.93) and Niger (3.23).
- Major destinations: GigSky is the most expensive provider in the majority of comparisons in 52 countries, including China, Egypt, Israel, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
By continent the index runs from 1.06 in South America and 1.09 in Europe to 1.42 in Africa and 1.77 in Asia. In other words, GigSky is near the market in Europe and the Americas and far above it in Asia. Our lists of the cheapest eSIMs and the most expensive countries for eSIM data show who undercuts it where. You can also check two countries at once, for example GigSky plans for Switzerland and the UK.
GigSky unlimited, cruise and subscription prices
- 1-day unlimited passes: 133 single-country unlimited plans in our database are 1-day passes at a median $5.49 (range $3.49 to $7.99; the US is $3.49). They were the cheapest 1-day unlimited option in 67% of comparisons, and a pass costs about the same as GigSky's 1 GB/7-day plan. Longer unlimited plans appear in the database only for Guadeloupe (7 and 15 days), while GigSky's app listings offer 1, 3, 7, 14, 21 and 30 days.
- Cruise: 1-day "Cruise & World" unlimited passes cost $4.99 to $6.99 in our database. GigSky sells sea-only Cruise plans, Cruise + Land plans that switch between ship and shore, Ferry plans, and "Essentials" cruise plans limited to low-data uses like messaging, maps, email and travel apps [1].
- GigSky One subscription: 25 GB, 50 GB or 75 GB of high-speed data a month, then up to 1 Mbps, in over 120 countries, renewing monthly with no contract; it excludes cruises, offshore and in-flight use, and unused data does not roll over [6]. Promo codes and referral discounts do not apply to subscriptions [1]. The subscription price is not readable on gigsky.com.
- In-flight: bought before take-off and switched on above 20,000 feet on a handful of airlines; GigSky gives no prices or data amounts for it.
- Regional plans: 136 multi-country plans in our database, covering the Caribbean, Europe (41 to 49 countries), the Middle East, Asia and "Cruise & World" plans of up to 165 countries.
Discounts stack poorly. GigSky's help center says only one promo code works per purchase, codes do not combine with automatic discounts, and a code cannot be added after you pay. Its Refer a Friend program gives both sides 25% off, entered when the new account is created, and a rewards page advertises 5% credit on every purchase.
Representative GigSky prices by destination
Every pricing page on gigsky.com is rendered with JavaScript, so the prices below come from the third-party comparison site esimDB, read on 4 to 6 Oct 2026. esimDB showed a 20% discount badge without saying whether the listed prices include it, so treat the table as indicative only.
| Plan | 1 GB, 7 days | 3 GB, 15 days | 5 GB, 30 days | 10 GB | Unlimited, 1 day |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| United States | $2.99 | $8.49 | $12.49 | $21.49 (30 days) | $3.49 |
| Japan | $2.99 | $7.49 | $10.29 | $16.79 (30 days) | $3.49 |
| Europe (42 countries) | $3.99 | $8.49 | $16.99 | $22.99 (30 days) | $3.49 |
| World Plan | $7.99 | $18.99 | $32.99 | $64.99 (60 days) | none listed |
According to esimDB, the cruise plans cost far more: "Cruise & World" from $10.99 for 500 MB a day to $119.99 for 10 GB over 30 days, and "Cruise + World" from $17.99 for 500 MB to $174.99 for 10 GB. Every plan also had a free 100 MB option. Unlimited passes on esimDB ran 1, 3, 7 and 15 days, which differs from the app listings.

GigSky price position against the market
The box below sums up GigSky's price position against the market: its rank among fixed-data providers, how often it had the cheapest or dearest plan, and the countries at each end. GigSky customer feedback
Customer feedback
Strong Trustpilot and App Store ratings, a weaker Google Play score, and recurring complaints about speed and cruise connections.
Verdict: Mostly happy customers, with speed and at-sea connections as the recurring complaints.
GigSky ratings on Trustpilot, the App Store and Google Play
GigSky holds 4.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 7,194 reviews, 4.5 on the App Store from 1,100 ratings and 3.9 on Google Play from 4,470 ratings, as read for this review. The Android score is the outlier, and it matches our own experience of an app that feels like a wrapped website. GigSky's own help center banner claims it is "trusted by 250,000+ customers".
Three themes come up again and again in the positive reviews: setup is quick and people are online as soon as they land, the free plans that come with Visa and other cards let people try it at no cost, and one plan keeps working across borders. The complaints mirror our speed test: slow connections stuck on LTE, 3G or Edge, drops that last hours even in big cities, and cruise plans that only connect in port. We looked at the same themes across the customer reviews of the top 11 providers.

Gigsky worked great during my trip to Rome and Madrid. As soon as we landed I activated it as my primary line and it immediately worked. Internet was fast and had no issues. Highly recommend!
Network was slow and coverage was spotty. Will not be using this esim again. Poor coverage where others in my travel group using different esims had no issues with reception, I would often be without service or service was so slow I couldn't even load a webpage.
My wife and I tried the free 10GB, 15-day GigSky data plan that comes with our Visa card, and it worked perfectly for us in Italy and Malta. We never ran into any problems and stayed connected the entire trip. We’ll absolutely be using it again on our next adventure.
Great coverage in Switzerland, Italy, and Austria over 2 weeks. Excellent speeds and seamless data as traveling between countries. Easy to activate.

GigSky coverage: destinations, cruises and traveler reports
Coverage
Broad reach, cruises and islands few others sell, but traveler reports on whether it worked run below the market.
Verdict: Breadth is GigSky's biggest strength; reliability reports are below average.
Where GigSky sells plans
GigSky says it covers more than 190 destinations [3]; its app store listings say both "190+" and "over 200". Our price database counts 193 countries (Europe 46, Africa 44, Asia 41, North America 40, South America 13, Oceania 9), with single-country plans in 185 and five more (Moldova, Montenegro, Palestine, Nauru and the Central African Republic) only inside regional plans. The full country list of each plan is shown only in the app.
What sets GigSky apart is the places others skip. It sells plans for the Caribbean, Cuba and dozens of small islands, and for cruises it is close to the only option: 39 cruise-line pages on its website, plus ferry, offshore and in-flight plans. A few popular spots have no country page of their own, for example Monaco, San Marino, Andorra and Vatican City, though some may sit inside the Europe plan.
Does GigSky work? What traveler reports show
Travelers told us the GigSky eSIM worked in 935 of 1,161 country-level reports (80.5%), against 85.6% for the other 13 providers in the same database. That ranks GigSky 12th of 14 by raw rate. Adjusting for where people used it, GigSky had 30% more failures than the market would have had in the same countries.
- Strongest countries: Japan 64 of 68 (94%), Canada 42 of 45 (93%), India 17 of 17 (100%), Spain 41 of 45 (91%) and the US 111 of 126 (88%).
- Weakest countries: China 25 of 44 (57%), Egypt 5 of 13 (38%), the Bahamas 2 of 11 (18%), Cuba 2 of 8 (25%) and the UK 86 of 107 (80%), all below other providers in the same country.
- Weakest regions: Oceania 20 of 33 (61%) and the Caribbean 30 of 62 (48%), against a market rate of 66% in the Caribbean. GigSky's breadth there is real, but so are the failure reports.
Cruises need their own expectations. GigSky's ships use the Wireless Maritime Services network, and service starts about 12 nautical miles from shore [10]. Customers often report that cruise plans only connect in port, and GigSky's Visa FAQ says the complimentary Visa plans do not include cruise connectivity.

GigSky terms and conditions
Verdict: The consumer terms favor GigSky, but the help center is friendlier than the fine print.
GigSky's consumer Terms of Service were last updated on 21 Apr 2026 [1], while its privacy policy dates from 1 Apr 2020 and was written around California's CCPA [2]. California law governs, with courts in the county where GigSky, Inc. is headquartered [1]. GigSky is based in Palo Alto, California, was founded in 2010 according to Wikipedia, and names Ravi Rishy-Maharaj as founder and Sam King as CEO on its enterprise site.
A few clauses matter in daily use. The service is data only, and the terms exclude liability for not being able to make emergency calls [1]. You must be 18 or older, an account whose email is never confirmed is deleted after 30 days, and a few destination plans let you use leftover data on entry to the United States [1]. The privacy policy says GigSky collects your name, email, billing details, country of residence, device and SIM identifiers, location and server logs, keeps data on US servers, and may transfer it outside the EEA and Japan [2].
What's in the GigSky terms and conditions
Terms that favor GigSky. Four clauses can cost you money or data, and three work in your favor.
Opens in a new tab- Red flag: Sales are final under the termsThe terms say plans and top-ups cannot be returned and unused data is not refunded, activated or not; only the help center reviews refunds case by case.
- Red flag: Your first card is saved for future chargesYour first purchase authorizes GigSky to debit the same card for later purchases or top-ups on that eSIM.
- Red flag: GigSky One renews every month until you cancelThe subscription renews at the then-current price, elapsed periods are never refunded, and promo codes and referral discounts do not apply to it.
- Red flag: Heavy use can get your plan withdrawnGigSky decides at its sole discretion what counts as excessive data use and can withdraw the service without reimbursement.
- Watch out: California law, arbitration at GigSky's optionDisputes fall under California law, and GigSky alone can send one to JAMS arbitration in Palo Alto before three arbitrators.
- Watch out: Inactive accounts are deleted after 18 monthsAn account unused for more than 18 months can be removed, and one with no eSIM registered within 30 days can be deleted.
- Watch out: Liability is capped at three months of paymentsGigSky's liability is limited to what you paid in the previous three months or your last top-up, and excludes any inability to make emergency calls.
- Watch out: Location and SIM data are logged, ads use cookiesThe 2020 privacy policy collects location, device and SIM identifiers, uses Google ad cookies and does not respond to Do Not Track.
- Fair: Subscription price rises come with notice and a way outIf the GigSky One price changes, GigSky says it notifies you in advance and lets you cancel before the new price applies.
- Fair: A barely used subscription can be refundedIf a GigSky One plan was used under 1 GB because of a service or connectivity problem, GigSky may refund it in full or in part.
- Fair: Your data is not soldThe privacy policy says GigSky does not sell or rent personal information and shares it only with service providers bound to confidentiality.

GigSky review summary: should you buy a GigSky eSIM?
Verdict: A niche pick: the best choice for cruises and hard-to-cover islands, a poor one for cheap data in Asia or Africa.
GigSky earns its 7.5 out of 10 with things no rival we tested can match. It behaves like its own operator, so the app stays partly online after your data runs out and lets you buy another plan on the spot. It sells cruise, ferry and in-flight plans, and it lists Caribbean islands and Cuba that most providers skip. A human answered our support chat at once, and installation was quick once we toggled the physical SIM.
The costs are just as clear. GigSky is the most expensive fixed-data provider of the 12 we rank, at a median $4.48 per GB, with Asia at 1.77 times the market median. The app is a wrapped website with a confusing Visa tab, you cannot buy without it, and there is no Google Pay. Travelers report it working in 80.5% of cases against 85.6% for the rest of the market, with China, Egypt and the Caribbean the weak spots.
Buy GigSky if
- You are taking a cruise or a ferry. GigSky is close to the only travel eSIM with plans for the ship itself, and Cruise + Land covers the ports too.
- You need an island few others cover, like the Caribbean, Cuba or Vanuatu, where GigSky is also one of its cheapest.
- You want a 1-day unlimited pass. At a median $5.49 it was the cheapest 1-day unlimited option in 67% of our comparisons.
- You need a long-validity plan: 20 GB for 90 days or 50 GB for 180 days, where GigSky sits close to the market.
- You hold an eligible Visa card. The free Visa data plans are the thing customers praise most after easy activation.
Look elsewhere if
- You want cheap data in Asia, Africa or Oceania. GigSky is up to 7.45 times the market price there; eSIM4Travel and Global YO are the cheapest providers in our database, about a third below the typical competitor.
- You are going to China, Egypt, Morocco, Türkiye or the Bahamas, where traveler reports for GigSky are weak. Holafly, Maya Mobile and Roamless have the fewest failures in the same countries.
- You want to buy on a website without an app, or pay with Google Pay.
- You expect a polished native app with the ICCID one tap away.
- You stream a lot on unlimited. The 3.5 GB daily cap comes with an unpublished reduced speed, and the GigSky One subscription drops to 1 Mbps.
That is our GigSky eSIM review in short: a provider you pick for where it goes, not for what it costs. If your trip includes a ship or an island on nobody else's list, GigSky is worth the premium. For an ordinary city break, compare its plans with the rest of the market before you buy. The full ranking is in our comparison of every eSIM provider we tested.
