Airalo Review: Is the World's First eSIM Store Still Worth It?

Airalo pod lupou Vse co potrebujete vedet o jejich nabidce e SIM a dat v zahranici

Airalo is a Singapore-registered eSIM marketplace that calls itself the world's first eSIM store, selling local, regional and global plans for 200+ destinations, some with calls and texts. Its prices sit at the market median, and travelers report more failed connections with it than with any other provider we track.

Airalo eSIM in our hands

Airalo eSIM speed test on our phone
We bought, installed and tested the Airalo eSIM ourselves, on our own Android phone, with the speed test run in Switzerland.

This Airalo review is based on an eSIM we bought with our own money and tested on our own Android phone. Airalo calls itself the world's first eSIM store and says more than 30 million people have used it. It sells local, regional and global data plans for 200+ destinations through its website and the Airalo app.

We put it through the same checks as the other 13 providers on Vefru: purchase, app, installation, customer support and a speed test. We then added our price comparison, 1,873 traveler reports on where the eSIM worked, and a close read of its legal documents. The result is a Vefru test score of 7.4 out of 10, seventh of the 14 providers we have tested.

Installation and speed were the high points. Support queues, market-median prices and an app that goes dark when your data runs out were the low ones. Prices below are in US dollars, Airalo's default currency, as of October 2026.

Buying an Airalo eSIM

Purchase process

Vefru rating

Buying works in the browser without the app and Google login is smooth. A compatibility check and tutorial pages add steps you do not need.

Verdict: Buying works in the browser without the app, and Google login is smooth. Airalo then makes you click through more pages than you need.

You do not have to download the app to buy. We signed in with Google on the website, picked a plan and paid. Airalo's help center says you can also sign up with Apple, Facebook, or an email address and a one-time code. An account is required, and guest checkout is not mentioned anywhere on the site.

Two things slowed us down. Before checkout, Airalo asks you to confirm that your phone is eSIM compatible, a step a returning customer does not need. After payment, you click through several pages and a tutorial on how eSIMs work before you reach the eSIM itself.

How to buy an Airalo eSIM in 5 steps

  1. Pick a destination. Search for a country, or choose a regional or global eSIM. The store has filters for fixed data and for data with calls and texts, plus a separate unlimited data page.
  2. Sign in. Google, Apple, Facebook, or email with a code. Google login was smooth in our test.
  3. Confirm your phone. Airalo asks you to check eSIM compatibility. If you are unsure, dial *#06#: an EID on the screen means your phone has an eSIM [7].
  4. Choose a package and pay. Displayed prices include VAT or similar taxes, and any extra fee is shown before you pay [2].
  5. Click through to your eSIM. The tutorial pages come before the QR code. You can share the code, but there is no download button, so take a screenshot if you want it on another device.

Airalo payment methods and currencies

Airalo's help center lists these payment methods [6]:

  • Cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, UnionPay and JCB, credit or debit.
  • Wallets: PayPal and Google Pay, plus Apple Pay in some countries only.
  • Alipay: in the mobile app only.
  • Airmoney: Airalo's reward credit, which you can combine with another method.

Bank transfer, Klarna, iDEAL and crypto are not mentioned. Prices show in one of 16 currencies: USD, EUR, GBP, CHF, PLN, SEK, NOK, DKK, AUD, CAD, NZD, JPY, SGD, THB, MXN and ZAR. The default is set by your device locale in the app and by your IP address on the website, according to Airalo's help center. Czech koruna is not on the list.

Airalo says it usually processes payments in US dollars and may accept other currencies at its discretion [2]. If your card is in another currency, your bank's exchange rate and fees apply, according to the help center.

Does Airalo ask for ID before you buy?

In some countries, yes. You upload a passport or similar document, possibly an address too, to an unnamed third-party provider. Without it you cannot buy, according to the help center.

The privacy policy says the data collected for eKYC (an electronic identity check, usually a passport photo) can include biometrics [4]. Airalo does not list which countries are affected.

The Airalo app on Android and iOS

Mobile app

Vefru rating

Google login was smooth and the app shares your QR code. It is over 50 MB, has no download button, and stops working without data.

Verdict: Google login makes app sign-in smooth and the eSIM is easy to find and share. The app is big, cannot download your QR code, and stopped working the moment our data ran out.

Logging into the app was smooth thanks to Google login. The eSIM page lets you share the QR code, which is handy if you want it on a laptop or a second phone. There is no download button, though, so we installed from a screenshot of the page.

The app weighs more than 50 MB, a lot for what it does. When we tested it, the Google Play listing showed more than 5 million downloads and a 4.3 rating from about 75,000 reviews. The listing has since passed 10M+ downloads. The store ratings we use for this review are 4.3 on Google Play from 180k ratings and 4.6 on the App Store from 100k ratings.

Airalo's own homepage advertises 4.7 on iOS and 4.6 on Android, higher than what the stores show. It also says the app is in 53 languages, while the App Store listing shows 50.

What the Airalo app does, and what it does not

  • One eSIM for every trip. With New Airalo, you install one eSIM and buy local, regional and global packages into it; they are used in that order. Airalo's setup guide claims you can buy data even without having data. We could not confirm that: in our test the app stopped working when the data ran out.
  • Goes dark without data. In our test, the app stopped working as soon as the plan ran out. There was no tunnel to let us buy more, so we needed Wi-Fi or someone else's hotspot to top up.
  • Top-ups. Go to My eSIMs, then Top up. If no top-up appears, the eSIM is non-rechargeable or Airalo has switched carrier, and you need a new eSIM, according to the help center. Alerts arrive at 25% and 10% of data left.
  • Auto-renewal. A per-eSIM toggle. When 10% of your data remains, Airalo buys the next package, which starts when the data runs out. It needs a saved card, Airmoney cannot be used, and it switches itself off if validity ends first [8].
  • QR sharing, no download. If you would rather not rely on a screenshot, Airalo also publishes manual installation guides. You can also turn an activation code into a QR code yourself.
  • Rooted or jailbroken phones. Airalo excludes them, along with carrier-locked phones [7].

Installing the Airalo eSIM

eSIM installation

Vefru rating

Data worked the moment the eSIM was installed, with no network selection or restart. We had to scan the QR code from a screenshot.

Verdict: The best part of Airalo. Once the eSIM was on the phone, data worked right away: no network to pick, no restart, nothing to configure.

We scanned the QR code from a screenshot, because the app gives you no download. The profile installed and data flowed straight away. We did not have to select a network, restart the phone, or do anything else.

How to install an Airalo eSIM: three ways

  • Direct install from the app. No code to scan. Airalo has guides for iOS and Samsung in its help center.
  • QR code. Scan it from a second screen or, as we did, from a screenshot. If this is your first eSIM, our five-step first-eSIM guide covers the phone side.
  • Manual entry. Type the activation details into your phone's eSIM settings. Our walkthroughs for adding an eSIM on an iPhone and on a Samsung show where the fields are.

You can install any time you have a stable internet connection, including before you travel, according to Airalo's help center. Your primary SIM can stay active for calls and SMS, but your home operator may charge roaming for those.

When does an Airalo eSIM start?

It depends on the package. Most Airalo eSIMs start their validity when they first connect to a partner network at the destination; some start on installation, wherever you are [10]. The rule is printed per package on the store page: Sri Lanka, for example, starts on installation, while Tajikistan and Bhutan start on first connection. Read that line before you scan at home.

Once started, validity cannot be extended, and the data is for the whole period rather than split per day [11]. Airalo's help center also warns that partners may recycle an eSIM that is not used or topped up within a set period. That period is often 90 days from purchase, and after it the eSIM cannot be used again. No overall deadline for installing is stated anywhere we looked.

Which phones work with an Airalo eSIM?

Airalo's compatibility list, dated September 2026, covers [7]:

  • Apple: iPhone XS and XR through the iPhone 17 series, iPhone Air, iPhone 16e, the SE (2020 and 2022) and cellular iPads.
  • Samsung: Galaxy S20 to S25, Z Fold and Z Flip, Note 20 and some A-series models.
  • Google: Pixel 2 through Pixel 10.
  • Others: Honor, Huawei (limited), Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi, Fairphone, Nothing and Nokia, two watches (OPPO Watch X2 Mini, Vivo Watch 5), and Windows 10 and 11 laptops from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Surface.

Excluded: iPhones sold in mainland China and most from Hong Kong and Macao, Samsung phones from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, most Samsung FE models, and any carrier-locked, rooted or jailbroken phone [7]. If your model is not here, check our list of phones with eSIM.

Airalo customer support

Customer support

Vefru rating

A bot answers first and pushes installation fixes even when told the eSIM is installed. A human follows, after a queue, handling several chats.

Verdict: Help is there around the clock and a human does answer. A bot stands in front of them, though, and the agent is handling several chats at once.

We contacted support to see how fast a real person answers. Here is how it went:

  1. A bot answers first. It runs through installation fixes, and kept doing so after we said the eSIM was already installed.
  2. You have to reject its answers. Only after we said the automated replies were not helpful were we placed in a queue for a real agent.
  3. The agent is multitasking. The person who picked up seemed to be handling many customers at once, so each reply took a while.

That matches what customers write on Trustpilot, where bot-led support and repeated troubleshooting are among the most common complaints. It is also why Airalo's support score of 7 sits behind the 10 we gave eSIM4Travel and Saily in our test of eSIM support desks.

How to contact Airalo support

  • Live chat, 24/7. On the website and in the app, advertised as multi-language. To reach a human faster, tell the bot its answers did not help.
  • WhatsApp. +1 984 224 7256, linked from the homepage footer.
  • Email. [email protected] for help, [email protected] for questions about the terms [1].
  • Help center. Seven categories, from getting started to troubleshooting, plus a separate activation guide for Turkey on iPhone and iPad.
  • No phone line. The US toll-free number in the privacy policy, +1 (888) 870-2848, is for accessibility requests only [4]. The contact page lists no phone number.

If the eSIM itself misbehaves before you reach anyone, our eSIM troubleshooting guide covers the usual fixes.

Airalo speed test

Speed test

Vefru rating

No artificial cap: 40 to 150 Mbps down and about 40 Mbps up in our test. Unlimited plans throttle after a daily allowance.

Verdict: No artificial speed cap on fixed plans. We measured 40 to 150 Mbps down and a steady 40 Mbps up, and the network cut us off later than the plan promised.

MeasurementResult
Download40 to 150 Mbps
UploadAbout 40 Mbps, consistent across runs
Artificial speed limitNone found
Data cut-off1.4 GB on a plan sold as 1 GB
Test locationSwitzerland, with direct visibility to the tower
After the cut-offApp stopped working; Wi-Fi needed to top up

Download speeds ranged from 40 Mbps to 150 Mbps, and upload stayed around 40 Mbps. Nothing in the results pointed to a throttle from Airalo, which is what a fixed-data plan should deliver.

The IELO network that served our plan did not cut the data at 1 GB but at 1.4 GB, so we got 40% more than we paid for. Once the limit hit, the Airalo app stopped working too. There is no tunnel that lets you buy more without a connection, so you need Wi-Fi or someone else's hotspot to top up. Buy the next package before you hit zero, or switch renewals on.

Airalo unlimited plans: 3 GB a day, then 1 Mbps

Unlimited is not unlimited. Airalo's fair use policy gives you 3 GB of full-speed data per 24-hour period, counted from the time you activated the eSIM. After that it slows you to 1 Mbps until the next reset. Where a package has a different threshold, it is shown in the package details before you buy [3].

The marketing page says the first 3 GB run at 20 Mbps; the policy itself names no high-speed figure [5]. At 1 Mbps you can still message, browse simple pages, use maps and make lower-quality video calls; streaming, gaming and large downloads crawl. Partner networks may add their own traffic management at busy times, and Airalo gives no warranty on speed. Usage far beyond what one person could consume can get the package suspended [3].

Does Airalo allow hotspot and tethering?

Yes, as long as your phone and the network permit it. Airalo's help center adds that an APN (the access point setting in your phone's network menu) may be needed. On unlimited plans there is no limit on tethering or on the number of devices [3], but the data you share counts toward the daily 3 GB [5]. If you need more than that for a laptop, a fixed-data plan or a portable Wi-Fi hotspot is the better fit.

Airalo prices

Prices

Vefru rating

Market-median pricing, rarely the cheapest, and our test plan cost more than four times the eSIM4Travel price. Loyalty cashback softens it slightly.

Verdict: Airalo charges what the market charges: rarely the cheapest, rarely the dearest. Our 1 GB test plan cost $4.50, more than four times the eSIM4Travel price.

That gap is the reason for the lowest subscore in this review. Airalo is a marketplace that resells other operators' data [1]. In our comparison tool its prices land close to the median of the 14 providers we track. For the same trip, eSIM4Travel and Global YO cost about a third less, and our Airalo vs eSIM4Travel comparison shows where that matters most.

Airalo plan sizes and typical prices

Airalo sells six standard sizes under local brand names ("Moshi Moshi" in Japan, "Élan" in France), and some countries have several brands. Validity is tied to size. The table shows the median price across all Airalo single-country plans in our comparison tool as of 2 Oct 2026.

DataValidityMedian pricePer GB at that price
1 GB3 days$5.00$5.00
3 GB3 or 7 days$11.00$3.67
5 GB7, 15 or 30 days$16.00$3.20
10 GB7, 15 or 30 days$23.50$2.35
20 GB15 or 30 days$35.00$1.75
50 GB30 days$45.00$0.90

Three things stand out from the ladder:

  • Bigger packages cost less per GB. 1 GB to 3 GB costs 2.1 times as much (+$5.50) for three times the data. 3 to 5 GB adds $5.00, 5 to 10 GB adds $9.00, 10 to 20 GB adds $11.50 and 20 to 50 GB adds $15.00, about $0.50 per extra GB.
  • Longer validity costs little. The same data for 30 days instead of 7 costs only 6 to 8% more.
  • 1 GB does not last a week. Airalo's 1 GB plans run 3 days, so for a week-long trip the smallest realistic option is 3 GB. That is the size where Airalo is weakest against the market.

Trip length matters too: Airalo is at market for 7-day trips but about 9% above it for 15- and 30-day trips. Among 24 popular destinations, it is one of the two most expensive providers in the United States, Greece, Vietnam and India. The median single-country fixed plan costs $18.50, or $2.80 per GB. To see what the others charge for your trip, run a search like Airalo against Saily for Greece in our comparison tool.

Airalo unlimited data prices

Airalo sells unlimited packages in 130+ countries [5], most of them 3 GB a day at full speed and then 1 Mbps, a few with a 5 GB daily threshold. These are the prices shown on the store pages for seven popular destinations on 7 Oct 2026, in USD.

ValidityGlobalUnited StatesJapanUnited KingdomEurope (41)EU + UK (28)Asia (18)
3 days$24.00$11.50$11.50$11.50$11.50$10.00$11.50

15 days$96.00$46.00$48.00$48.00$49.00$39.00$49.00
30 days$159.00$68.00$69.00$69.00$71.00$58.00$73.50

Across the 141 countries with unlimited plans, the medians are $12.50 for 3 days, $27.50 for 7, $49.00 for 15 and $72.00 for 30, which puts Airalo at the market median for unlimited too. A 7-day unlimited plan costs 1.5 times its 10 GB plan, and a 30-day one 1.8 times its 50 GB plan. Unlimited pays off only if you need more than about 70 GB a month.

The global unlimited plan is dear: 30 days cost $159.00, against $49.99 for a 30-day global unlimited plan from Maya Mobile.

The "from" prices on Airalo's pages are the cheapest fixed-data package, not the cheapest unlimited one. The UK page says "from $4.00", and that is its 1 GB plan for 3 days. The global eSIM says "from $8.50", which is the Discover 1 GB plan for 7 days. Unlimited packages start higher: $11.50 for 3 days in Japan, the US and the UK, and $24.00 for the global eSIM.

Airalo regional and global eSIM starting prices

Airalo lists ten regional eSIMs plus a global one. These are the starting prices on its regional store page on 7 Oct 2026, with the country count where a region page states one.

The global eSIM's country count is given three ways on Airalo's own pages: 168 on the store page, 130 in that page's description, and 120+ for Discover+ on the blog. None of those pages lists the countries in readable form, so check your destinations in our comparison tool before you buy a regional plan.

Airalo plans with calls and texts

Airalo has the largest choice of plans with calls of any provider we track: 164 "+" packages with voice and SMS. Nomad has 6 and ByteSIM 3. They cost a median 27% more than the same data-only plan. Our comparison tool does not record the minutes included, except for Discover+ (table below), and local voice packages are for calls within the covered country only, according to Airalo's help center.

  • Where: Sri Lanka (15 plans), Georgia (13); Austria, Belgium, Canada, Israel, the Netherlands, the UK and the US (12 each); Costa Rica and the Cayman Islands (11); Colombia and the Bahamas (6); Guam (5); Mexico (3); Jamaica and Panama (2).
  • Examples: US "Change+" 3 GB for 7 days $12.00; UK "Uki Mobile+" 1 GB for 3 days $5.00; Israel "Annatel+" 1 GB for 3 days $5.50; global Discover+ 1 GB for 7 days $9.00.
  • Discover+ global eSIM: data, calls and texts with a US (+1) phone number. Calls are rounded up to full minutes, and incoming calls stop when your minutes run out. Top-ups are bundled, so you cannot buy minutes or data alone, according to the help center.

Airalo Airmoney, loyalty cashback and referrals

Airmoney is Airalo's reward credit, held in US dollars. You earn it on purchases, top-ups, referrals and promotions, and spend it on your next package. Since 1 Feb 2025 the whole balance expires unless you buy or refer again, which resets the clock by a year, according to the help center. Balances under $1.00 cannot be applied, and Airmoney cannot pay for renewals.

Cashback depends on your loyalty tier, measured in US dollars spent [9]:

TierSpend thresholdAirmoney cashback
Travelerdefault5%
Silver Traveler$20.006%
Gold Traveler$70.007%
Platinum Traveler$200.0010%
  • No cashback with a coupon. Purchases that use a coupon or referral discount earn nothing, and Airmoney payments do not count toward your tier, according to Airalo's loyalty pages.
  • Referrals. Your friend gets $3.00 off a first purchase and you get $3.00 in Airmoney after it, with no cap on referrals, according to the refer-and-earn page.
  • Keep your tier. Your tier stays even if your Airmoney expires.

How Airalo compares on 10 GB, 30-day plans

All providers ranked by median price per GB for 10 GB, 30-day plans, the same basket in every Vefru provider review. 10 GB is one of Airalo's two most competitive sizes, and the 30-day version costs only a few percent more than the 7-day one.

What customers say about Airalo

Customer feedback

Vefru rating

Strong app store ratings and praise for easy setup. Trustpilot is lower, with complaints about eSIMs that never connect and bot-led support.

Verdict: Strong app-store ratings, a middling Trustpilot score. Customers praise the easy setup and fair prices, and complain about eSIMs that never connect and support that starts with a bot.

Our customer feedback subscore of 8.2 is read from Trustpilot and the two app stores. It reflects tens of thousands of other travelers rather than our single test.

The pattern is consistent. When the eSIM connects, people are happy and say they will buy again. When it does not, they meet an AI assistant and a refund request that takes several attempts.

Two details worth knowing. Airalo's privacy policy names Trustpilot as a review platform that may contact you after a purchase [4]. With 45,721 reviews, Airalo is among the most-reviewed providers we track. We put its reviews next to the others in our analysis of customer reviews across 11 eSIM providers.

The connection is reliable in most countries and often works as soon as the plane lands
Prices are fair and much cheaper than roaming with a home carrier

Often criticized

Some eSIMs never connect, or stop working partway through a trip
The connection can be slow or patchy, with frequent dropouts in some countries
Support leans on an AI chatbot and repeated troubleshooting, and refunds can be hard to get

Typical reviews

Activation

I used the Airalo eSIM on my recent trip and it was incredibly useful and reliable. The setup was super easy to use, I just downloaded the app, bought my plan before leaving, and had instant internet the second my plane landed. No more hunting for physical SIM cards at the airport. Connection stayed strong the whole time. Will definitely use it again!

I ended up buying not one, but two eSIMs because the first one wasn’t working. Unfortunately, I couldn’t activate either of them, which was incredibly frustrating. When I reached out for support, I was only able to chat with an AI assistant that couldn’t resolve the issue. Now that I’m trying to request a refund, I keep having to explain the situation over and over because the AI doesn’t seem to understand my request. Overall, I’m very disappointed with both the service and the customer support experience.

We have used Airalo esims all over Asia and Central America. They have worked perfectly for us in every case, activating automatically when we step off a plane and never leaving us without service. They are also very easy to top up if you post too many photos of your food. Buy this at home and have it ready to go. One day of using your home plan in another country might cost the same as a month of Airalo.

Help

I purchased an unlimited 15-day eSIM package for Europe. It worked perfectly when I landed in Spain and continued to work great when I moved on to Andorra; however, it stopped working when I crossed into France. I reached out for help and was immediately assisted with instructions on how to adjust the settings, and it started working perfectly again.

Airalo coverage: where the eSIM works

Coverage

Vefru rating

Plans for 200+ destinations, but travelers report the lowest share of working connections of the 14 providers we track.

Verdict: Plans for 200+ destinations on local networks, but travelers report more failures with Airalo than with any other provider we track.

Airalo does not run networks. It describes itself as an aggregator that picks a data provider for each country and resells it [1]. The store pages name some of those partners: T-Mobile plus one other network in the US, SoftBank plus one other in Japan, EE in the UK. Our guide to eSIMs with several networks explains how to switch operator when the one you land on is weak.

How many countries does Airalo cover?

Airalo says 200+. Its local eSIM list had 205 entries on 7 Oct 2026, but nine of them are sub-regions sold separately: Scotland, the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Northern Cyprus, Marie-Galante, Saba, Sint Eustatius and Bonaire. Without those, about 196 country-level destinations remain. Not on the list: Russia, Iran, Syria, North Korea and Cuba, and also Myanmar, San Marino, French Polynesia, Angola, Libya, Sudan and Yemen.

Where Airalo worked, according to 1,873 traveler reports

"Worked in" is a separate metric from our test score: travelers tell us whether an eSIM worked in a country, yes or no. For Airalo, 1,345 of 1,873 country-level reports (71.8%) say it worked. That is the lowest share of the 14 providers we track; the other 13 average 86.8%, and Airalo fails more often than each of them in the same countries.

  • Reliable: Singapore 33 of 35 (94%), Japan 92 of 99 (93%), the Netherlands 23 of 25 (92%), Australia 20 of 22 (91%), Vietnam and New Zealand 19 of 21 each (90%), South Africa 22 of 25 (88%).
  • Mixed: the United States 136 of 165 (82%), Canada 70 of 82 (85%), Türkiye 46 of 55 (84%), Thailand 41 of 49 (84%), Germany 29 of 35 (83%), the United Kingdom 105 of 140 (75%).
  • Weak: France 47 of 63 (75%), India 31 of 45 (69%), Portugal 18 of 27 (67%), Spain 36 of 64 (56%), Egypt 15 of 27 (56%), Italy 41 of 74 (55%), Switzerland 17 of 35 (49%), Mexico 19 of 42 (45%).
  • Cities: London is the worst spot in the data, 7 of 34 (21%). Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto were perfect, 14 of 14.
  • Regional plans: the Asia eSIM did a little better than the market, 65 of 69 (94%); the Europe eSIM did worse, 189 of 228 (83%) against 93% for other providers' Europe plans.

Southern Europe is the clearest pattern: in Italy, Spain and Portugal every rival with enough reports ranked above Airalo. If you are heading there, our guides to the best eSIM for Italy and for Spain name the providers travelers report working. The Switzerland guide and Mexico guide do the same for the other two weak spots. Japan is Airalo's strongest big market; see how it compares in our Japan eSIM guide.

The box below shows the full picture: the share of working reports by country and city, and how Airalo compares with other providers in the same places. It also flags where the sample is too small to judge. Reports are self-reported and not a random sample, so treat anything under ten reports as a hint, not a verdict.

Airalo terms and conditions

Verdict: Terms that favor Airalo: a $100.00 liability cap, English courts, no class actions and refunds only when Airalo is at fault. The 14-day withdrawal right and tax-inclusive prices are the bright spots.

Airalo's services are provided by AirGSM Pte Ltd, registered in Singapore, under general terms last updated in September 2025 and terms of use from July 2026 [1] [2]. The services are not for anyone under 13 [4]. We read the general terms, the terms of use with the refund policy, the fair use policy and the privacy policy. The box below sums up the clauses that matter for your money and your rights.

  1. Before activation: use the 14-day withdrawal right. It ends the moment the eSIM is activated [2].
  2. After activation: you qualify only if the eSIM is unusable through Airalo's error or a retired service. Ask within 30 days, cooperate with troubleshooting, and Airalo gets 10 days to fix it first [2].
  3. Press the button. Use the Request Refund button in your account, or contact support by email or chat [2]. According to the help center, "Wrong purchase" and "Plans changed" refunds are paid in Airmoney only, while "Installation issues" and "eSIM not working" can go to Airmoney or your card.
  4. Wait. Card refunds take 7 to 10 business days according to the help center, and up to 30 business days under the terms [2]. Expired or fully used eSIMs are not eligible, and repeated automated refunds go to manual review.

Frequently Asked Questions About Airalo

Is Airalo a reliable eSIM provider?
Airalo is a legitimate Singapore-registered company, but traveler reports rank its reliability last among the 14 providers we track. In our own test the eSIM worked right away at full speed. Across 1,873 traveler reports, 71.8% said it worked, against 86.8% for the other providers. Install it at home before you fly, and carry a backup in Italy, Spain, Switzerland or Mexico. Compare its Italy prices with (eSIM Comparison).
How much does an Airalo eSIM cost?
Typical Airalo prices run from $5.00 for 1 GB to $45.00 for 50 GB, with 5 GB at about $16.00 and 10 GB at $23.50. That is close to the market median: cheapest in only a few comparisons and rarely the most expensive. Unlimited plans cost a median $27.50 for 7 days and $72.00 for 30 days. Work out how much data you need first with (Travel Data Calculator).
Is Airalo unlimited data really unlimited?
No. Airalo's fair use policy gives you 3 GB a day at full speed, then slows you to 1 Mbps until the daily reset. At 1 Mbps you can still message, use maps and browse simple pages, but video streaming and large downloads crawl. Hotspot is allowed with no device limit, but tethered data counts toward the 3 GB. A fixed plan is better value unless you need more than about 70 GB a month.
Can I make calls and send texts with an Airalo eSIM?
Yes, on some plans. Most Airalo eSIMs are data-only. Data, Calls and Texts packages exist for the global Discover+ eSIM and for selected countries, including the US, the UK, Canada, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. Discover+ comes with a US +1 number; calls are rounded up to full minutes and incoming calls stop when your minutes run out. These plans cost a median 27% more than the same data-only plan.
When does an Airalo eSIM start, and can I install it before my trip?
You can install it at home, and most packages start only when the eSIM first connects to a network at your destination. Some packages start on installation, so read the activation line on the package page before you scan. Validity cannot be extended once it starts, and Airalo warns that an eSIM left unused for around 90 days can be recycled by the network partner. For the phone side, follow (Kody Rabatowe na eSIM | Oszczędzaj Więcej na Danych | Vefru).
Airalo eSIM not working: what should I try first?
First check whether the package has started: most Airalo packages activate on first connection at the destination, a few on installation. Then open the chat and, when the bot pushes installation fixes, say its answers did not help so a human agent takes over. Traveler reports show failures are most common in Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Mexico, so carry a backup there. For the usual settings fixes, see (eSIM Not Working? Complete Troubleshooting Guide | Vefru).
Can I get a refund from Airalo?
Only in narrow cases. You can withdraw within 14 days of purchase, but that right ends the moment the eSIM is activated. After activation, a refund or replacement is due only if the eSIM is unusable through Airalo's error or a retired service. You must ask within 30 days, and Airalo gets 10 days to fix it. Refunds go to Airmoney or your card, and card refunds can take up to 30 business days.

Airalo review summary

Verdict: Airalo is a big, polished marketplace that is easy to buy from and installs without fuss. You pay the market rate, though, for an eSIM that fails more often than the competition.

In our hands the Airalo eSIM did what it should. Buying worked without the app, Google login was smooth on web and app, and data worked the moment the profile landed on the phone. The speed test showed no cap, and the network even gave us 40% more data than we paid for. Those are the reasons for the 9s in purchase and installation.

The rest is harder to recommend. Prices sit at the market median, which left our $4.50 test plan at more than four times the eSIM4Travel price. Support puts a bot in front of a busy human. And across 1,873 traveler reports, Airalo had the lowest share of working connections of the 14 providers we track, with Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Mexico the clear weak spots.

Buy Airalo if:

  • You need calls and texts. No other provider we track sells as many data-plus-voice plans, and Discover+ gives you a US number worldwide.
  • You are going to Japan, Singapore, the Netherlands, Australia or New Zealand, where 90% or more of travelers report it working.
  • You want one eSIM for many trips. Airalo's New Airalo setup lets you buy local, regional and global packages into one installed profile.
  • You buy often. Loyalty cashback of 5 to 10% in Airmoney softens the market-rate prices.

Look elsewhere if:

  • Price is the main thing. eSIM4Travel and Global YO cost about a third less for the same trip; see our cheapest eSIM price comparison.
  • You are heading to Italy, Spain, Switzerland or Mexico, where fewer than six in ten travelers report Airalo working.
  • You want human support first. Saily and eSIM4Travel scored 10 for support in our tests; Airalo scored 7. Our Airalo vs Saily comparison goes through the difference.
  • You stream on unlimited. Airalo throttles to 1 Mbps after 3 GB a day, while Holafly publishes no daily threshold at all; our Airalo vs Holafly comparison weighs the two.

This Airalo review earns the provider a Vefru test score of 7.4 out of 10: excellent to buy and install, average to own. If that fits your trip, you can go straight to Airalo's store; if not, our list of Airalo alternatives is the next stop.
