Holafly is the pick for most trips to Egypt because it is the provider travelers most often say simply worked, everywhere they went. It worked well for 32 of 36 travelers who reported from Egypt (89%), strong evidence, and the successes are spread across the whole tourist map: Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Marsa Alam, a Nile cruise with no lost connection, a six-hour desert bus ride to Cairo, a boat excursion off Marsa Alam, and Abu Simbel, where Vodafone's own 5G list has nothing [5]. Several reviewers were on their second or third Egypt trip with it. One wrote in July 2026: "Within minutes after landing in Marsa Alam Egypt the Esim was working."

The four misses are all total failures, not slow data: an 11-day plan with no internet for the first week and a replacement eSIM that died after 12 hours (July 2026), an eSIM that would not connect on arrival for a two-week work trip and was replaced several times (July 2026), a solo traveler with no connection on a trip that also covered Germany and Switzerland (July 2026), and one report of very bad internet in both Italy and Egypt (August 2026). Two of these also describe long fights with the chatbot before reaching a person. Among the successes, a few mention slow or unreliable speeds from the local network while still staying online.

What sets Holafly apart in Egypt is simplicity: unlimited data only, sold by the day from 3 to 30 days for Egypt in our comparison tool, no top-ups (you buy a new eSIM) and a one-tap install with no QR code. Holafly says its Egypt eSIM runs on Orange, hotspot sharing is capped at 1 GB a day, and the eSIM keeps a small free monthly allowance after the plan ends [9]. The drawback is speed: in our hands-on test Holafly looked throttled from the first minute, far below what a local SIM got on the same cell, and its price position in Egypt is among the dearest, since its Egypt grid sits above its usual day rates. It suits travelers who want to stop thinking about data, not those who tether a laptop or want the cheapest plan.

Yesim is the budget pick for Egypt, and the one with the best city-level record on the Red Sea coast and in Luxor. It worked well for 45 of 57 travelers who reported from Egypt (79%), strong evidence, and the place rows are unusually complete: 4 of 4 in Cairo, 3 of 3 in Luxor, 3 of 3 in Marsa Alam, 3 of 5 in Hurghada, plus single successes in Aswan, Sharm El Sheikh, El Gouna, Marsa Matruh, at the pyramids, on the Nile and at Hurghada airport. It is also among the three cheapest providers in Egypt in our price analysis, which is rare for Yesim, a provider that is dear in most of Europe.

The 12 misses are counted, but the review texts behind them were not part of the files we had for this article, so we cannot say what went wrong or where. The two Hurghada failures are the only ones we can place, and even those only as a location. Treat the Hurghada result as mixed until more reports come in.

Yesim sells Egypt as unlimited data by the day, any length from 1 to 30 days, next to fixed plans from under 1 GB to 50 GB and Middle East and global bundles that also cover Egypt, all in our comparison tool. Its page does not name the Egyptian network it uses, as of August 2026, and the unlimited plans are throttled under a limit Yesim does not publish. Two warnings from our hands-on test: the plan we bought started counting at purchase, not at first use, so buy close to your flight or use the "activate later" option, and support was among the slowest we tested, with long waits between template replies. Yesim suits experienced users who want cheap unlimited data for a resort week and will not need help.

Maya Mobile is the pick for trips that combine Egypt with Turkey, Jordan, the Gulf or a cruise, because one unlimited global plan covers all of them. It worked well for 40 of 58 travelers who reported from Egypt (69%), strong evidence, and the successes cover Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, the pyramids and a Nile cruise, often alongside Turkey on the same eSIM. Travelers describe fast activation on landing, several on a first eSIM. One wrote in January 2026: "I had signal throughout Cairo, Luxor, Aswan etc."

The 18 misses are the most varied of any provider here, and most are about speed rather than no signal: "H+" instead of 4G, download speeds a fraction of upload, apps taking a minute to open, data that dropped out repeatedly in Sharm El Sheikh, weak signal in Dahab. Several plans stopped mid-trip: after two days of a ten-day plan (March 2026) and on day 14 of a longer one (February 2026). Two Cairo failures from early 2025 coincide with what Maya described as a brief outage on its Egyptian partner; a Middle East plan that worked in Turkey did not connect at all on arrival in Egypt (November 2024). In most of these, Maya's help desk refunded the plan, which the reviewers then credit.

Maya sells no Egypt plan: in our comparison tool it has only global unlimited plans of 3, 7, 14 and 30 days, with a 5 GB daily allowance at full speed, then a slower speed, and hotspot allowed. Its page does not name the Egyptian network; travelers and third parties report Orange. On price it is the cheapest global unlimited plan in our comparison, though it sells nothing small for a short trip. In our hands-on test installation was one click and the daily cap was the fairest we measured, but you set the APN and roaming yourself. Maya suits heavy users on multi-country trips; the Egypt-only traveler who wants full speed in the resorts has better odds with Holafly.

Airalo is in the Best group only because 27 reports is strong evidence; it has the weakest record of the four strong-evidence providers and suits travelers who need a plan with calls and texts, not those who want the surest connection. It worked well for 15 of 27 travelers who reported from Egypt (56%), and the successes mostly come from people who use Airalo everywhere and found Egypt fine: streaming video, WhatsApp calls, easy top-ups, one reviewer calling the service good "given the country". Its help desk gets credit for fixing settings remotely in two reports.

The 12 misses are the clearest pattern in this article. Six of them name the unlimited plan: no service at all (August 2026), very slow and nowhere near the promised daily allowance (July 2026), five unlimited packages bought for one group of which only one worked fully (July 2026), a plan that stopped on day 3 of 5 (July 2026), a 15-day plan that never connected (July 2026). Two more are location-specific: no connection at all in Sharm El Sheikh (August 2026) and nothing in El Gouna, where the reviewer wrote in July 2026: "I was in ElGouna - probably here there is no Orange network." There is also a report of no connection for a whole trip, and one of a plan that expired after 10 of 15 days.

Airalo's Egypt eSIM is called Giza Mobile and runs on Orange, which is the only network its storefront shows [10]; Airalo's own package copy adds Vodafone as a 3G-only backup, which we could not confirm with Airalo, and our comparison tool lists the plan under Vodafone. Plans run from 1 GB to 20 GB and unlimited from 3 to 30 days with a 3 GB daily allowance before slowing, and Airalo's Discover+ global plans add calls, texts and a US number that also work in Egypt. On price it is among the two most expensive in Egypt in our analysis. In our hands-on test purchase and installation were among the easiest, and support reached a person after a queue. Airalo suits a traveler who already has the app, wants voice, and is staying in Cairo or on the Nile rather than in a Red Sea resort.

Nomad is the pick for light users who are comfortable with an app and will not need a help desk. It worked well for 7 of 7 travelers who reported from Egypt (100%), limited evidence, and every one of them describes a trip that also crossed other countries: Egypt and Jordan then Europe, Egypt and Turkey, Egypt with Greece, Italy and France on one global plan, Egypt and Spain. Two reviewers single out the app and the easy top-ups. One miss elsewhere is instructive: a traveler had terrible coverage in London but wrote in May 2026 that "In Egypt everything was fine."

The one weak note is speed. A parent whose children used Nomad while he used his home carrier's day pass wrote in July 2026: "Nomad have basic speed most of the time." Nobody reports no signal, an activation failure or a blocked app. With only seven reports, and none from a Red Sea resort by name, this record says more about the Nile cities than the coast.

Nomad's page names both Orange and Vodafone for Egypt, the clearest two-network statement of any provider here, and our comparison tool lists its Egypt plans under Orange. Plans run from 1 GB to 20 GB, with unlimited from 3 to 10 days at a 2 GB daily allowance before slowing to a crawl, a free trial plan, add-on data on some plans, and 30 days to activate according to our comparison tool (Nomad's own page said 60 days in August 2026). Price is around the market average in Egypt, dearer than in Mexico or Canada where Nomad is cheapest. The drawback is the one our hands-on test found: the chatbot had no route to a human and timed out on an APN question, so if your eSIM does not connect on landing, you are on your own.

eSIM4Travel is the pick for anyone whose first question is price: it is the cheapest provider for Egypt in our price analysis, by a clear margin over Global YO and Yesim, and the only one in this group that sells plans of 100 MB and 500 MB for a single day. There are no traveler reports from Egypt yet, so we cannot say how it performs here, and the matrix shows it with a count of zero for that reason, not because of any failure.

What we can say comes from our hands-on test, run outside Egypt: we bought on the website, received the QR code by email, installed it with roaming on and had data at once; when we asked the help desk a question, one click took us from the bot to a person who solved it and suggested switching network. It has the highest Vefru test score of the providers compared here. Its page lists Vodafone and Orange for Egypt, and its Egypt plans in our comparison tool are named with Vodafone, Orange and Etisalat/e&, which would make it the only provider here with a choice of three networks, if that holds in practice.

Plans for Egypt run from 100 MB to 50 GB, with validities of 1, 7 and 30 days; there is no unlimited plan for Egypt, only Middle East and Africa regional unlimited plans with a daily allowance, and all fixed plans are sold as unthrottled. The downsides are the same everywhere: no app, no Google Pay at checkout, and no way to top up once the data runs out unless you find Wi-Fi. eSIM4Travel suits a traveler who installs at home, wants cheap data for the Nile cities and values a human help desk; a first report from a Red Sea resort would tell us more than our test can.

Roamless worked well for 5 of 5 travelers who reported from Egypt (100%), limited evidence, and two of them are repeat visitors who use it on every Egypt trip. One reviewer who travels to Egypt often wrote in January 2026 that coverage and value were great and, "most importantly, I can make calls"; another switched to Roamless after GigSky failed in Egypt (March 2026). The one complaint is price: a reviewer found it too expensive for Egypt next to cheaper alternatives (May 2026), which fits our analysis, where Roamless sits at the market average here and its flat per-GB rate gets dear above 10 GB.

Roamless sells Egypt as pay-as-you-go credit that never expires, plus 30-day fixed plans from 1 GB to 100 GB and a free trial, all unthrottled, with no unlimited plan; our comparison tool lists them under Orange, which third parties also report, while Roamless's own page names no network. In-app calls and an optional second number are its unique extras. The reason it is not a pick is our test: the preselected APN did not work until we switched it by hand, Google Pay failed at checkout, and the eSIM comes only through the app. It suits frequent multi-country travelers with light data needs who want to call from the same app; Roamless is also one of the few that keeps a trickle of data at zero balance so you can top up.

GoMoWorld worked well for 15 of 16 travelers who reported from Egypt (94%), limited evidence, and the successes reach Aswan, Luxor, Abu Simbel, a Nile cruise and Cairo on one trip. The recurring caveat is speed: reviewers describe mostly 3G or "H+" with 4G only in short bursts, one of them on Orange EG (October 2024), and a Swiss traveler wrote in May 2026 that it "was the only one actually working. But it was slow". The one miss never installed at all and the order history stayed empty (February 2025). Two reviews describe a slow start at the airport, which matches what we found: you must press Start in the app or nothing happens.

GoMoWorld sells four Egypt plans in our comparison tool, from under 2 GB for 7 days to 26 GB for 30 days, at its fixed euro prices, with no unlimited plan, no calls, tethering allowed and the clock starting only when you activate; its page does not name a network, as of August 2026. It is below the market average on price in Egypt. It is not a pick because the eSIM exists only in the app, one account serves one device, and human support works office hours only; our test measured no throttling, so if speed in Egypt was the reviewers' problem, it was the network, not the plan. Jetpac worked well for 3 of 4 travelers who reported from Egypt (75%), limited evidence, and the texts are split. One traveler chose it on price and found the service great (January 2025); another got it running in Cairo only after airport staff told him eSIMs do not work in Egypt and the help desk walked him through it by email (September 2025). Against that, a traveler who extended her Middle East eSIM for a month found it nearly useless in Egypt after it had worked in Doha, with no data at all in places (December 2024), and a four-week India and Egypt trip found reliability only in major cities (May 2024). Jetpac refunded part of the extension in the first case.

Jetpac's Egypt plans run from 1 GB to 40 GB and every one of them is flagged 4G only in our comparison tool; its Middle East and North Africa regional plans add unlimited data with 5G and a 3 GB daily allowance. Its page names no network and the research could not settle which it uses. Price is around the market average here. It is not a pick because of the thin, mixed record and the rough app and checkout we found in our test, though its extras are real: free WhatsApp, Maps and Uber after the data runs out on plans of 3 GB or more, in-app voice packs, and a free lounge when a flight is delayed. Jetpac suits frequent flyers who value those extras over the surest signal.

Saily worked well for 5 of 7 travelers who reported from Egypt (71%), limited evidence. The successes include a returning traveler whose last Egypt holiday "worked perfectly" (April 2026) and a cruise passenger in El Dekheila Port whose odd fault was fixed by two agents over three hours of chat (March 2026). The two misses are telling: in El Gouna the eSIM did not work on arrival, ran for 14 hours after the reviewer picked a network by hand, then died for the rest of a 12-day stay despite hours with the help desk (April 2026); the other was a plan cut off over a referral-credit dispute (May 2026). Three further reviews praise the setup before the trip but report no outcome.

Saily's Egypt plans in our comparison tool run from 1 GB for 7 days to 10 GB for 30 days, with Middle East and Africa regional plans up to 3 GB; no unlimited plan for Egypt appears in the tool, although Saily's own page listed one in August 2026. Its page does not name the network; third parties report Vodafone. It is not a pick because it is among the two most expensive providers in Egypt in our analysis and the plan ladder is thin. What it does best is the start: our hands-on test found the smoothest install and the best help desk of any provider, with the plan starting only on first connection. Saily suits a first-time eSIM user heading for Cairo who wants a polished app and a free VPN, and who will not be staying in El Gouna.

ByteSIM worked well for 2 of 3 travelers who reported from Egypt (67%), too few to judge, and all three reports are from 2023 and 2024. The two successes praise coverage and a help desk that solved a day-two problem in ten minutes (May 2024). The miss, from June 2023, describes coverage so poor the data rarely connected and felt like dial-up when it did. Nothing newer tells us how it does today.

ByteSIM has the deepest Egypt catalogue in our comparison tool: fixed plans from 500 MB to 90 GB at validities from 1 to 30 days, and daily plans with a per-day allowance, but no unlimited plan and no top-ups once a plan is used up. Its page names Orange. Price is around the market average in Egypt, dearer than its Asian plans. It is not a pick because of the stale, thin record and because our test found a clumsy checkout that demands a postal address, an app that failed to activate the eSIM, and a WhatsApp help desk that did not reply. ByteSIM suits experienced users who want a local wallet or a plan size nobody else sells.

Ubigi worked well for 10 of 17 travelers who reported from Egypt (59%), limited evidence, and the two halves of the record could be different providers. The successes are detailed: one reviewer listed decent speeds at Cairo airport, the Grand Egyptian Museum, the pyramids, Luxor, Aswan, Karnak, Edfu, Abu Simbel, on a Nile cruise and in Hurghada resorts (April 2026); others report consistent speed over a whole week and excellent coverage on the Marsa Alam coast (August 2026). Six of the seven misses fall between May and August 2026: no service at all in Hurghada on an unlimited plan while a friend's Vodafone SIM worked, hours without connectivity in central Cairo that Ubigi later put down to a network outage on its side, a day's delay before the eSIM worked in Cairo, a phone showing 4G with no internet, very poor service in Sharm El Sheikh, and one eSIM that never worked.

Ubigi's Egypt plans run 1, 3, 10 and 25 GB plus unlimited for 8, 15 and 30 days with a 5 GB daily allowance before slowing, and its plan pages name both Orange and e&, which makes it the only provider here on e&, the network with the best 5G results in third-party testing. Price is around the market average in Egypt. It is not a pick because of the failure cluster above and because our test found the worst support outcome of any provider: an email ticket with no reply in 24 hours, behind a clunky website and app. One plus from the test: it warns before the data runs out and lets you buy more at zero balance. Ubigi suits a tech-savvy traveler who wants e& and can set APN and roaming by hand.

Global YO worked well for 4 of 8 travelers who reported from Egypt (50%), limited evidence, and every report is from 2024 or early 2025. The successes are a three-year customer whose first eSIM was for Egypt, a French traveler who had a good network but found some banking apps restricted (March 2025), and one in Sharm El Sheikh. The misses are specific: an unlimited plan on Orange that was patchy at best while a friend's physical Orange SIM was "night and day" better (November 2024), a traveler who could hardly ever connect and went to the wrong airport terminal because she could not look it up (October 2024), slow data with unanswered support (July 2024), and LTE only where 5G was expected.

Global YO sells Egypt plans from 1 GB to 100 GB with validities up to 60 days, day plans with a daily allowance, and Middle East and global bundles, all with tethering allowed; there is no unlimited plan, and its page does not name a network, as of August 2026. It is the second-cheapest provider in Egypt in our analysis, which is its strongest argument. It is not a pick because of the record and because our test found purchase is app-only, the APN must be set by hand, a deleted eSIM cannot be reinstalled, and support took half an hour per reply. Global YO suits price-driven buyers who install at home and want a large plan.

GigSky worked well for 5 of 13 travelers who reported from Egypt (38%), limited evidence, the lowest share of any provider here. The successes include one traveler who found it "worked brilliantly in Egypt even in relatively remote locations along the Nile" (February 2025). The eight misses say the same thing in different words: worked in Rome, nothing in Egypt (August 2026); coverage only in very central areas (December 2025); LTE shown but nothing loading (December 2025); a connection that opened and closed just long enough for a text message (December 2025); could not activate at all (December 2025); and a global plan that turned out not to include Egypt (July 2026). Two reviewers switched to another provider mid-trip.

GigSky's Egypt plans run 1, 3, 5 and 10 GB plus a 1-day unlimited pass, with regional, world and cruise plans that also cover Egypt; the research found the Egypt plans marked unavailable in August 2026, so check the tool before buying. Its blog names Orange. Price is the strongest reason to look elsewhere: GigSky is the most expensive provider in Egypt in our analysis by a wide margin, several times the market rate for the same data. It is not a pick for both reasons; our test found a human on the help desk at once and an app that stays online at zero data, but neither fixes a plan that does not connect. GigSky suits only a cruise passenger whose cruise plan already includes Egypt and who needs a short port stop covered.

How much does each provider charge per GB in Egypt? The chart below compares plans of 1 to 10 GB that last 6 to 14 days, the usual range for a one- or two-week trip. Provider websites show only their own plans, so this side-by-side view is one you would otherwise have to work out yourself. A shorter bar means a lower price per GB.

Egypt is one of the cheaper destinations in our comparison tool, and the spread between providers is wide: eSIM4Travel and Global YO sit far below the market rate here, Yesim is unusually cheap for Egypt, and Saily and GigSky are the two most expensive. The tables below are live and sorted by tier, so you see today's prices for the data you need. Best eSIM for Cairo, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh and the Nile

The place rows below come from the same 258 reviews, counted only where the reviewer named the place. Holafly, the overall pick, has the best Cairo record; Yesim has the best records in Luxor, Marsa Alam and Hurghada; and the Red Sea resorts are where Airalo, Saily and Ubigi failed. Abu Simbel, Aswan and the Nile have reports from six providers between them, every one positive, but none has three reports in one place.

Best eSIM for Cairo

Holafly is the pick for Cairo because all four of its Cairo reports worked, including a hotel stay with the eSIM online throughout (August 2026), the six-hour desert bus ride into the city, and road trips out to the pyramids. Yesim matches it at 4 of 4 and is cheaper, so it is the budget alternative. GoMoWorld's two Cairo reports both worked, one on a Nile cruise that ended in the capital, but with the slow speeds described in its section.

The runners-up failed in ways worth knowing. Maya Mobile's two Cairo misses date from early 2025 and match what Maya called a short outage on its Egyptian partner; its two successes are more recent. Ubigi lost connectivity for hours in central Cairo in May 2026, which Ubigi later put down to a fault on its own network, and another traveler waited up to a day after activation before it worked in the capital. GigSky's one Cairo traveler had enabled the eSIM in Madrid before flying and still got only a connection that opened and closed. One Ubigi reviewer did get data at Cairo International Airport itself; a GoMoWorld user's eSIM did not activate at the airport and started an hour later at the hotel, because the plan has to be started in the app first.

Best eSIM for Hurghada

Yesim is the pick for Hurghada by default, as the only provider with three or more reports there, but its record is 3 of 5 and we do not have the texts behind the two misses, so treat it as a mixed result rather than a safe one. Holafly's and Maya Mobile's single Hurghada reports both worked: the Holafly traveler had coverage in Cairo, Luxor and Hurghada on the same unlimited plan, and the Maya traveler ran two phones in Hurghada without trouble.

Ubigi is the provider to be careful with here. One traveler had no service at all in Hurghada on an unlimited plan in June 2026, while a Vodafone SIM in the same group worked, and that reviewer's point is a fair one: a resort is the last place a plan should fail. Ubigi's other Hurghada report, from April 2026, found decent speeds at the resorts, so the result is a coin toss. Nearby El Gouna is the one place with a clear negative pattern: Airalo and Saily both failed there, the Airalo traveler blaming the absence of Orange and the Saily traveler losing service after 14 hours, while Yesim's one El Gouna report worked.

Best eSIM for Sharm El Sheikh

Maya Mobile is the pick for Sharm El Sheikh under our three-report rule, with 2 of 3, but Holafly is the safer bet on the evidence: both Holafly reports worked, one describing excellent coverage around the resort, the beach and the town with Google Maps and WhatsApp running (June 2026), the other a connection from the moment the flight landed (May 2026). Maya's Sharm successes include a traveler who never lost connection over a week (January 2026) and one whose outage turned out to be Maya switching off his line by mistake, fixed in ten minutes (February 2026); its miss, from April 2024, describes disconnections and very low speeds on Orange across three eSIMs.

Two providers failed outright in Sharm in 2026: an Airalo eSIM would not connect at all and the hotel's IT staff could not fix it either (August 2026), and Ubigi's network there was described as having no usable connection (June 2026). Global YO's one Sharm report worked. For the Sinai more widely, Maya's Dahab report found weak coverage, and Vodafone's own 5G list includes Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab but nothing in the Sinai interior [5].

On the Nile and at Abu Simbel, no provider has three reports in one place, but every report we have worked: Holafly, Yesim, Maya Mobile, GoMoWorld, Ubigi and GigSky on cruises, and Holafly, Maya, GoMoWorld and Ubigi at Abu Simbel, where one Maya traveler lost signal only in the desert on the drive there. Vodafone's 5G list omits Aswan, Marsa Alam and Abu Simbel [5], so on that stretch expect 4G at best from any provider.

Local SIM Cards and Operator eSIMs in Egypt

A local tourist SIM in Egypt costs a fraction of a travel eSIM and includes minutes, so it wins for any stay of two weeks or more where you want a local number; a travel eSIM wins for short stays and for anyone who wants to avoid the passport registration, the queue, and the customs clock on their phone. All four operators sell tourist bundles. As of September 2026, according to the Holafly and Saily country guides, Vodafone's Tourist 250 gives 10 GB with 200 local and 20 international minutes for EGP 255 and its Tourist 500 gives 30 GB for EGP 505, both for 28 days; Orange Holidays gives 20 GB with 120 local minutes for EGP 200, and Orange Holidays Super 47 GB for EGP 450; e&'s Traveler bundles run from 7 GB for EGP 200 to 40 GB for EGP 600 over 30 days; and WE's Mobile Egypt 100 gives 5 GB with minutes for EGP 100, the cheapest of all. The operators themselves do not publish these prices on their pages, so expect small differences at the counter; Vodafone's own tourist-line page confirms the product and its out-of-bundle rates but no bundle prices [6].

You need your passport: Egypt's regulator treats it as the identity document for a foreigner's line, the card is registered in your name, and kiosks may ask to see your entry stamp. On 10 August 2026 the NTRA referred all four operators to the Public Prosecution over lines registered to people without their consent and ordered a halt to new lines sold through corporate registration channels plus biometric re-verification of existing lines [2]. On the regulator's own wording that targets company channels, not the retail counter a tourist uses, but longer queues and more careful staff are a plausible side effect until the re-verification finishes later in 2026.

The customs rule is the bigger reason to prefer an eSIM. Since 21 January 2026 the general exemption for phones carried in by passengers is over, and a tourist's handset is exempt for 90 days per visit [1]. Apple's support note says the 90 days run from the day an Egyptian SIM is first activated in the phone and that the rule applies to Egyptian SIM cards only, not to iPhones roaming on a foreign profile [8]; the Belarusian embassy in Cairo says the same for phones roaming on foreign SIMs and adds that one phone can be registered free at airport customs on arrival [4]. The charge for an unregistered phone is widely reported at about 38.5% of its value; we could not confirm that figure with the regulator. A travel eSIM is a foreign roaming profile, so on the evidence we have it does not start the clock; a local SIM or a local eSIM does.

Where to buy: Cairo International has kiosks for all four operators in the arrivals halls after passport control, and Vodafone confirms an airport store; Hurghada has booths in both terminals, open around the clock but cash only, according to travelers; Sharm El Sheikh has a Vodafone kiosk after passport control. Whether airport prices carry a surcharge is disputed between the guides we read, so if the price looks high, a shop in town will have the same bundle. Orange sells an eSIM line for EGP 350, or a swap from a physical SIM for EGP 300, as of August 2026, but its FAQ contradicts itself on whether tourists qualify and the app flow asks for a national ID, so expect to be sent to a branch [7]; we could not confirm Vodafone's eSIM price or whether e& and WE offer one to visitors. A local eSIM registers the handset like a physical SIM and starts the 90-day clock.

Mobile Networks in Egypt

Egypt has four networks, Vodafone, Orange, e& and WE, and which one your eSIM uses matters more than the provider's app, because the measured rankings disagree and the coverage gaps are sharp. Vodafone has the widest 5G footprint by its own published list, more than 2,000 sites across 21 cities, including Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, the North Coast, Hurghada, Safaga, El Gouna, Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Luxor and Karnak, but not Aswan, Marsa Alam, Siwa, Abu Simbel or the Western Desert oases [5]. Whether Vodafone also has the widest rural 4G reach is reported by third parties but measured by nobody. All four operators switched on 5G in June 2025 at no extra charge, according to Opensignal, which also reports that 5G users spend about 95% of their time on non-5G networks.

On speed there is no single winner. Opensignal's February 2026 report names WE the best network overall, with the top download speed, reliability and consistency, Vodafone first for 5G coverage and time on 5G, and e& first for 5G speed and video; Orange comes last on most of its measures. The regulator's own drive test from the first quarter of 2024, the latest it has published, ranks the networks differently on outdoor road measurements, with e& and Orange ahead on average download and Orange with the fewest areas of poor data quality, as we read the report; the operator mapping in that document is one we would still re-check before relying on it [3]. The practical reading: WE is the strongest everyday network and no travel eSIM in this article uses it; Orange, the network most eSIMs here ride, scores weakest in crowdsourced tests but holds up on the tourist circuit in the reports above.

Which network each provider uses, as of September 2026: Holafly says Orange [9]; Airalo shows Orange on its storefront [10] and names Vodafone as a 3G-only backup in its own package copy, which we could not confirm; Nomad's page names Orange and Vodafone; eSIM4Travel's page names Vodafone and Orange, and its plans in our comparison tool add e&; Ubigi's plan pages name Orange and e&, the only e& option here; ByteSIM's page names Orange; GigSky names Orange on its blog. Yesim, Saily, Global YO and GoMoWorld do not name a network on their pages, as of August 2026, with third parties reporting Vodafone for Saily, and Roamless and Maya Mobile are reported on Orange by third parties and listed under Orange in our comparison tool. Jetpac's network we could not settle. Orange's own coverage map showed only a 3G legend when we checked it in August 2026, and e&'s map did not load, so the Vodafone list is the only official coverage document worth reading before a trip [5]. If your plan offers a choice, as eSIM4Travel's does, or your phone lets you pick the network by hand, Vodafone is the one to try first outside the cities; our guide to multi-network eSIMs explains how to switch.

How to Set Up an eSIM for Egypt

Install at home on Wi-Fi, before you fly. Several Egypt reviews describe eSIMs that would not install or activate on hotel Wi-Fi, and an Airalo traveler points out that you need a connection just to reach the help chat. The steps that matter for Egypt:

1. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked; our first-eSIM guide covers compatibility and purchase. Mainland-China iPhones have no eSIM at all.
2. Buy and install at home. Almost every provider here starts the plan on first connection in Egypt, so installing early costs nothing; the exceptions are Yesim, whose plan started at purchase in our test (use its "activate later" option), GoMoWorld, where you must press Start or schedule the plan in the app, and some Airalo packages that start at install (the package page says which). Follow our iPhone guide or our Samsung guide.
3. Turn on data roaming for the eSIM line and set it as your data line. Global YO and Maya Mobile need the APN "globaldata", GigSky needs "gigsky", Ubigi "mobiledata"; Roamless's preselected APN did not work in our test until we picked the Proximus profile by hand.
4. On landing, if the phone shows 4G but nothing loads, pick the network by hand in your phone's settings. A Saily traveler in El Gouna got service only after choosing a network manually, and eSIM4Travel's help desk gave us the same tip. Switch off your home SIM's data line: a Jetpac eSIM in our test dropped data until the physical SIM was off, and GigSky needed the same toggle.
5. If it still does not connect, restart the phone, then open the provider's chat before you leave the airport Wi-Fi; Ubigi and Nomad could not be reached by a human in our test, so with those two the fix has to be yours. Our troubleshooting guide lists the checks in order.

Egypt's calling code is +20, and almost every eSIM plan for Egypt in our comparison tool is data only, so calls go over WhatsApp or a similar app. The exceptions: Airalo's Discover+ global plans include calls, texts and a US number and cover Egypt; Jetpac sells in-app voice packs; Roamless offers in-app calls and an optional second number, and one Roamless regular in Egypt names calling as the reason she uses it; Global YO has outgoing app calls; Saily sells a US number add-on; and Holafly's subscription and Yesim offer numbers that can receive SMS. No provider here sells a plan with an Egyptian number; for that you need a local SIM, where every tourist bundle in the local SIM section includes local minutes and most include international ones.

Several travel blogs report that VoIP calling is restricted in Egypt. We could not confirm this with the regulator, and the reviews we read say otherwise in practice: an Airalo user made WhatsApp and Messenger calls across Egypt without trouble (July 2026), and a Holafly traveler kept her own number working on WhatsApp while friends with local SIMs lost theirs (June 2026). One Global YO traveler found some banking apps restricted on the eSIM (March 2025), so keep a second way to reach your bank.

Summary: the best eSIM for Egypt

Holafly is the best option for most trips to Egypt: it worked well for 32 of 36 travelers who reported from here, on the Nile, at Abu Simbel and in the resorts, and its four misses were outright failures handled by a slow chatbot, not slow data; its weakness is capped speed and a high price. Yesim worked for 45 of 57 and is among the cheapest here, with the best records in Luxor, Marsa Alam and Hurghada, but its support was the slowest we tested and we cannot say what its 12 misses were. Maya Mobile worked for 40 of 58 and suits trips that pair Egypt with Turkey or Jordan on one unlimited plan, at the cost of frequent slow-data complaints and plans that stopped mid-trip.

Airalo worked for 15 of 27 and is the one provider in the group with a weak record, almost entirely on its unlimited plan and in the Red Sea resorts; it suits travelers who need calls and texts. Nomad worked for all 7 who reported, at basic speeds, with a help desk we could not reach. eSIM4Travel is the cheapest provider for Egypt in our comparison and had the best help desk in our test, but it has no app and no traveler reports from Egypt yet. Whichever provider it is, the best eSIM for Egypt is the one installed before you fly, with Vodafone or Orange selected by hand if the phone shows 4G and nothing loads.
