Houston sits on flat coastal plain with no terrain to block signal, and T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon all cover the metro with 5G along the loops and freeways. Texas reviews are among the most positive in our set. Check a rental in The Woodlands or a Galveston beach house on the FCC coverage map or the T-Mobile map. Both are carrier models on the assumption of an outdoor phone standing still at 5 Mbps, so downtown's underground tunnel system and the lower floors of a tower can be weaker than the map suggests. Global YO scored 8.00 in our test on the strength of its price (10/10) and installation (9/10), with support the weak spot at 5/10; it is the price leader in our comparison tool most of the time. Every unlimited plan above slows to 1 Mbps or less until midnight after its daily allowance, from 1 GB (Global YO) to 5 GB (Saily). On a Houston driving day with maps, music and a passenger tethered, 1 GB is gone by lunch. For most weeks here a 10 GB fixed plan costs less than any unlimited option and never throttles.

Houston has carrier stores in every strip mall, and for a month-long posting their visitor passes can compete. Since May 2026 T-Mobile has sold a Prepaid US Pass eSIM at $25, $30 or $35 for 7, 10 or 14 days, plus Houston's 8.25% sales tax, with unlimited calls and texts in all three North American countries, unlimited 5G data of which 50 GB is prioritised, and 14 GB-plus of hotspot. Visible, Verizon's prepaid brand, sells an eSIM Travel Pass at $25 a week and $45 a month.

A friend's spare physical SIM is often useless, because every iPhone 14 or later sold in the United States has no SIM slot.

Our rule for Houston: a driving week of 6 GB to 8 GB favours the travel eSIM by a wide margin, with 10 GB at eSIM4Travel costing $15.40 against $27 plus tax for the 7-day pass. Texas reviews are among the most positive in our whole US set, and Houston's are no exception. We pulled every review naming Houston, IAH, Hobby, Galveston or Texas and grouped them by provider, adding Austin reports where the same networks apply.

Getting Your eSIM Ready Before Houston

Install everything at home, over Wi-Fi, before you leave. Every provider here allows install-now, activate-later, and a Holafly reviewer who did so had data the moment they landed at the Houston airport, which is how it should go.

Arriving in Houston: Bush Intercontinental (IAH) is 23 miles north of downtown and Hobby (HOU) is 10 miles south, and both have free Wi-Fi.
