Best eSIM for Saudi Arabia in 2026: 14 Providers Ranked by Traveler Reports

Key Takeaways

Key takeaways

Based on 62 traveler reports from Saudi Arabia and our tests, the best eSIM for most trips is Maya Mobile: it worked well for 23 of 28 travelers, and its unlimited plan has the fairest daily allowance we tested. Holafly (5 of 6) is simplest for unlimited data, but its speed was capped from the start in our test. Global YO (5 of 7) is usually among the cheapest from 10 GB up, 4G only. Nomad (7 of 10) suits experienced users who can skip the help desk. eSIM4Travel has no Saudi reports yet, but the lowest price per GB here and the best help desk we tested; no app.

The best eSIM for Saudi Arabia depends less on which network you land on and more on whether you can set it up before you fly. A local SIM needs your passport and visa, and stc, the largest operator, requires a visit to one of its branches on arrival before the number works [3]. A travel eSIM skips the queue, keeps your home number live for bank codes, and connects as the plane doors open. We read 62 traveler reports from Saudi Arabia to find out which ones do that reliably.

Coverage in the cities and along the highways is not the problem. The regulator CST says 21,000 villages and localities are covered through national roaming, a wholesale arrangement between the three operators, so outside the cities the brand on your eSIM matters less than inside them [1]. Provider pages warn that signal thins once you leave the road, in open desert, the Asir mountains and on the remote Red Sea coast; Holafly's own Saudi page says that quality "may be weaker or unstable" in deserts and mountains [8]. The bigger risk for most readers is load, not reach: Hajj 2026 drew more than 1.5 million pilgrims from abroad [2], and during Hajj and Ramadan every network around Mecca and Medina is busy, local SIMs included.

Two more things decide the choice. Only three providers in this article name a network for Saudi Arabia and promise 5G on it; Global YO sells its Saudi plan as 4G only. And whether WhatsApp calls work on a travel eSIM here is disputed between current sources, so plan on messaging rather than calling. Below: the 14 providers we tested ranked by their Saudi records, city picks for Jeddah and Mecca, the current stc, Mobily and Zain visitor SIMs with prices, and the networks each eSIM uses.

Best eSIM Providers for Saudi Arabia

eSIM plans in Saudi Arabia at a glance

How well each provider's eSIM works in Saudi Arabia

The Vefru score is our overall rating of the provider. The percentage shows how many reviewers said their eSIM worked well in Saudi Arabia. Since unhappy customers review more often, it is best used to compare providers with each other.

How we got these numbers: we read 62 public customer reviews that mention Saudi Arabia or a place in it, published between September 2025 and February 2026, and counted a report as "worked" when the reviewer said the eSIM connected, even with small hiccups. We treat 20 or more reports as strong evidence, 3 to 19 as limited, and fewer than 3 as too few to judge. A count like 23 of 28 means the eSIM worked well for 23 of the 28 travelers who reported from here; each provider section says what went wrong for the rest. The Vefru test score is a separate number: our own hands-on test of the provider, run outside Saudi Arabia, so it says how the provider behaves, not how the network performs here. Local operator prices in the text were checked on 26 September 2026; provider ratings, the plan tables and the price-per-GB chart are live and update on their own.

We chose the Best group on the traveler record in Saudi Arabia first, price position second and our own hands-on findings third; Airalo has 6 reports but worked for only 2 of them, so it sits in the Other group, and eSIM4Travel is in the Best group on price and our test, with its lack of Saudi reports stated plainly.

Maya Mobile eSIM in our hands

Maya Mobile testing preview Maya Mobile testing speed 1 Maya Mobile testing speed 2 Maya Mobile testing support

Based on the reports, Maya Mobile is the best option for most trips to Saudi Arabia, because it is the only provider with a large sample here and that sample is good: it worked well for 23 of 28 travelers who reported from Saudi Arabia (82%), strong evidence. Every report tied to a named place was a success: 3 of 3 in Jeddah, 2 of 2 in Mecca, 1 of 1 in Medina and 1 of 1 in Riyadh. That is the Umrah corridor plus the capital, which is where most readers of this page are going.

The five misses are not tied to any named city in the reports, so we cannot say whether they were dead zones or setup trouble. Across all the countries in our report data Maya Mobile has the second-best record of the 14 providers, so the Saudi result is in line with the rest, not an outlier. Maya names no network for Saudi Arabia; its page says it connects to the strongest local network in each country, and it did not name one when we checked in September 2026 [17].

What sets it apart is the plan itself. Maya Mobile sells one thing: a global unlimited plan for 3, 7, 14 or 30 days that covers Saudi Arabia among 165 or more countries, with a cruise variant, and no country plan and nothing shorter than 3 days. Our comparison tool lists the daily allowance as 5 GB at full speed, then slowed; in our test the slowdown came after about that much and reset every day, the fairest unlimited rule we tested, as our Maya Mobile review shows. Installation took about two minutes, but you set the APN "globaldata" and data roaming yourself. On price it is the cheapest global unlimited plan in our comparison by a wide margin, below most providers' single-country unlimited plans, but it sells nothing for a light user or a one-day stop. The help desk is the weak spot: a WhatsApp bot that ignores your message, a form, then a human with template replies. Hotspot is included, and a full refund applies if no data was used within 30 days. Plans are sold on the website or in the app, with the QR code emailed at once on maya.net.

Holafly is an Irish eSIM provider built around unlimited data, with trip eSIMs for 200+ destinations. Travelers report it working more often than any other provider we track. Its weak points are speed and price: our test ran at about 30 Mbps on 5G, and its unlimited plans cost more than most.

Holafly eSIM in our hands

Holafly testing outdoor Holafly testing support Holafly testing support 2 Holafly testing speed

Holafly is the pick for travelers who want unlimited data and do not want to think about it, with one warning: in our test its speed was capped from the start, before any data was used. It worked well for 5 of 6 travelers who reported from Saudi Arabia (83%), limited evidence, with 1 of 1 in Jeddah and 1 of 1 in Mecca. In practice the capped speed is enough for maps, messaging, browsing and streaming, and slow for large downloads, uploads, cloud backups and laptop work. The hotspot is limited to 1 GB a day, and there are no top-ups; when a plan ends you buy a new one [8].

The one miss is not tied to a named place in the reports. Holafly's Saudi page itself warns that quality may be weaker or unstable in deserts and mountains, which fits a trip to AlUla or the Asir better than a stay in Jeddah [8]. Our test found the cap steady, not a fair-use cut that arrives later, so the record above says the eSIM connected, not how fast it ran.

Holafly runs on Mobily in Saudi Arabia, named under "Networks" on its page, with unlimited plans only, sold by the day from 1 to 90 days, data only and no local number; its FAQ says a fair-use slowdown lasts no more than a day at a time [8]. Our comparison tool had no Holafly plan for Saudi Arabia at export time, so there is no plan table here; the plans are on Holafly's page for Saudi Arabia. Installation was one tap with no QR code in our test, and a human on the help desk answered quickly after a bot, as our Holafly review shows. An "Always On" allowance of 1 GB every 30 days keeps the eSIM alive after the plan ends if you keep it installed, and unused plans can be refunded within 6 months [8]. On price it is among the most expensive unlimited offers in our comparison, and its Saudi plans sat above its usual price grid when we checked in September 2026. It suits a short Umrah or business trip where setup has to be foolproof, not a working trip with a laptop.

Global YO eSIM in our hands

Global YO testing outdoor Global YO testing speed 1 Global YO testing speed 2 Global YO testing support

Global YO is the pick for price-driven travelers who need 10 GB or more and can install at home, because it is usually the second-cheapest provider in our comparison and gets cheaper as plans grow. It worked well for 5 of 7 travelers who reported from Saudi Arabia (71%), limited evidence. None of its reports is tied to a named city, so the record is a country-level one.

The two misses are not tied to a place or a cause in the reports. One thing we can say from its own page: the Saudi plan runs on Zain and is listed as 4G/LTE only, not 5G, while all three Saudi operators run 5G, so expect good but not top speeds [12]. In our test, support was the other weak point: a template reply after ten minutes and a long wait for the follow-up, as our Global YO review shows.

The plan range is wide: Saudi plans from 1 GB for 3 days to 100 GB for 60 days, with 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20 and 50 GB in between, plus day plans with a daily allowance, then slowed, for 3 to 30 days. There is no true unlimited plan. A Middle East Explorer regional plan and Global Explorer plans also cover Saudi Arabia. Its page says no ID is required and hotspot is allowed, and lists a small eSIM activation fee valid for a year [12]. You buy in the app only, the QR code is then emailed, the APN is "globaldata", and a deleted eSIM cannot be reinstalled, so install it once and leave it. Outgoing calls over the app (YO SHOUT) are a bonus for a data-only eSIM. The main drawback is that the app dies at zero data, so a top-up needs Wi-Fi (plans on globalyo.com).

Nomad eSIM in our hands

Nomad testing preview Nomad testing speed 1 Nomad testing speed 2 Nomad testing support

Nomad is the pick for experienced eSIM users who will not need the help desk: it has the second-largest sample here and a fair record, and it worked well for 7 of 10 travelers who reported from Saudi Arabia (70%), limited evidence. It also runs on stc, the operator that wins the coverage and 5G coverage awards in Opensignal's February 2026 report, according to Nomad's own Saudi page [9]. A third-party review site says Zain instead, and a marketplace listing names both, so we state Nomad's own page and note the dispute.

The three misses are not tied to a named city in the reports, and Nomad has no city-level reports here at all. What we know from our test is the risk if something goes wrong: the AI bot looped on an APN question, timed out and offered no route to a human, and the email reply came later, as our Nomad review shows. That is why it is a pick for people who can fix a data roaming toggle themselves.

Plans are fixed Saudi plans of 1 GB for 7 days and 3, 5, 10, 20 and 50 GB for 30 days, plus unlimited for 3, 5, 7 or 10 days with 2 GB a day at full speed, then slowed, and add-on data on some plans. A Gulf Cooperation Council regional plan (six Gulf states) and Global plans also cover Saudi Arabia. Nomad's page says the eSIM "often comes with more than one local network" and gives a 60-day activation window, while our comparison tool lists 30 days to activate on some Saudi plans, so check the plan page [9]. Our tool lists its Saudi plans at 4G/LTE speed. The app has a home-screen widget for remaining data, a free 1 GB trial exists, and the price position is slightly below the market average, with a flat profile at every size. Plans start on first connection, so install at home (see Nomad's plans).

eSIM4Travel eSIM in our hands

eSIM4Travel testing outdoor eSIM4Travel testing speed 1 eSIM4Travel testing speed 2 eSIM4Travel testing support

eSIM4Travel is the pick for the cheapest data with a human help desk behind it, with no traveler reports from Saudi Arabia yet. Its place here rests on two things from the files: it had the lowest price per GB of any provider in our comparison tool's Saudi export, below Global YO and Roamless, and its help desk was the best we tested, one click from the bot to a person who solved the problem. Our test ran in Switzerland, not Saudi Arabia, so it says how the provider behaves, not how its network performs here.

eSIM4Travel runs on Mobily in Saudi Arabia, named twice on its page, with 5G, hotspot and top-ups, a 90-day activation window and data only; its daily plans are slowed after the daily allowance [7]. Mobily is the operator that wins reliability and consistent quality in Opensignal's February 2026 report, and has the least time under 5G coverage in WePlan Analytics' data, so it is a city-first choice. There is nothing in the files against it here; the only gap is evidence, and we say so.

The plan range in our comparison tool is small: Saudi plans of 1 GB for 1 or 7 days and 3 or 5 GB for 30 days, while its page advertised up to 20 GB when we checked in September 2026 [7]. For more data the Middle East 9 and Middle East 6 and North Africa 2 regional plans cover Saudi Arabia up to 20 GB and add unlimited plans with a daily allowance. The downsides stay: no app, no Google Pay, the QR code comes by email, and once the data is gone you cannot reach the store without Wi-Fi, as our eSIM4Travel review explains. Refunds apply within 2 months if under a tenth of the data was used (plans on esim4travel.com).

Airalo eSIM in our hands

Airalo testing outdoor Airalo testing speed 1 Airalo testing speed 2 Airalo testing support

Airalo has the worst record of any provider with 3 or more Saudi reports: it worked well for 2 of 6 travelers who reported from Saudi Arabia (33%), limited evidence, and that is why the biggest name in eSIMs is not a pick here. The two successes are tied to Khobar (1 of 1) and Riyadh (1 of 1); the four misses are not tied to a place in the reports. Across all countries in our report data Airalo has the lowest record of the 14 providers, so the Saudi result follows the pattern.

Its Saudi product is branded "Red Sand" and runs on Zain as the primary network, with fixed plans from 1 GB to 25 GB on validities of 3 to 45 days and unlimited plans with 3 GB a day at full speed, then slowed [10]. A Middle East and North Africa regional plan and the Discover and Discover+ global plans also cover Saudi Arabia; Discover+ adds a US number. Purchase and installation were among the easiest we tested and the speed showed no cap, as our Airalo review shows, but the price position is at the market average, never the cheapest. Someone who already has an Airalo account and only needs a few days of maps might still choose it (Airalo's Saudi plans).

GoMoWorld eSIM in our hands

GoMoWorld is too new in Saudi reports to rank: it worked well for 1 of 1 travelers who reported from here, too few to judge. That one report came from Mecca in November 2025, from a pilgrim who used the same eSIM in the United States, Honduras, the Bahamas and India: "Excellent ESIM work in America and Mecca" (Nov 2025). Nothing went wrong in it, and there is no second report to weigh it against.

Its Saudi plans in our comparison tool are 700 MB for 7 days and 3, 7 or 11 GB for 30 days, with no regional plan covering Saudi Arabia and no unlimited; its page names no network and says it uses two networks per country on average, up to 5G, when we checked in September 2026 [16]. In our test it was the fastest provider with no throttling at all, but the eSIM exists only in the app, one account serves one device, and you must press Start or nothing happens, as our GoMoWorld review explains. Human help is office hours only. Its price position is below the market average for 5 GB and more and poor for the smallest plan. A heavy user on a weekday trip who is comfortable with apps might choose it (gomoworld.com).

ByteSIM has one Saudi report and it was a success: it worked well for 1 of 1 travelers who reported from here, too few to judge. Its global record in our report data is above average, so the single report is not out of character, but it cannot carry a recommendation.

The catalogue is the biggest for Saudi Arabia in our comparison tool: daily plans of 500 MB to 3 GB a day, fixed plans from 3 GB to 90 GB, and unlimited for 1 to 30 days, with longer validity costing more. Its page names stc as the primary network with Mobily and Zain as backup on its voice plans, which bundle minutes and SMS with 20 to 100 GB; it asks for no ID, allows hotspot on every plan, slows daily and fixed plans after the quota, and gives a 180-day money-back guarantee [13]. Those voice bundles were not in our comparison tool at export time. In our test the checkout demanded a phone number and full postal address, the app threw install errors, the promised 5G came as 4G and the WhatsApp help desk did not answer, as our ByteSIM review shows; there are no top-ups. Its price position is at the market average, better for short trips. Travelers who pay with local wallets or want minutes on a Saudi network might still choose it (bytesim.com).

Jetpac eSIM in our hands

Jetpac testing outdoor Jetpac testing speed 1 Jetpac testing speed 2 Jetpac testing support

Jetpac is split down the middle: it worked well for 1 of 2 travelers who reported from Saudi Arabia (50%), too few to judge. The miss is the clearest failure in the Saudi reviews: a traveler in September 2025 wrote "The network (Zain) gave me no signal at all", tried a reboot and a Zain shop, and ended up buying a local SIM that worked at once (Sept 2025). Jetpac refunded the plan. The other review, from January 2026, praised the help desk for fixing a move from an Android phone to an iPhone before the trip. Jetpac's own page names no network for Saudi Arabia when we checked in September 2026.

Saudi plans in our comparison tool run from 1 GB to 40 GB on 30 days, plus a short 1 GB promo plan, all flagged as 5G, and a MENA regional plan adds unlimited for 1 to 30 days with 3 GB a day at full speed, then slowed. The extras are the reason to look at it: in-app voice packs, free WhatsApp, Maps, Uber and Grab after the data runs out on packs of 3 GB and more, unlimited hotspot, and a free lounge if your flight is delayed by an hour or more. The app and site were rough in our test, as our Jetpac review shows, and the price position is among the dearer ones for 3 to 20 GB. Frequent flyers who want calls and the lounge perk might still choose it (jetpacglobal.com).

Yesim eSIM in our hands

Yesim testing outdoor Yesim testing speed 1 Yesim testing speed 2 Yesim testing support

Yesim's only Saudi report is a failure: it worked well for 0 of 1 travelers who reported from here, too few to judge. The report does not say where in Saudi Arabia the eSIM failed or why. Its page does not name a network and describes automatic switching between networks; its destination badge read "LTE" when we checked in September 2026.

Yesim sells Saudi plans by the day, from 1 to 30 days, in fixed sizes from 200 MB to 30 GB and as unlimited days with a fair-use slowdown whose limit it does not publish. A Middle East regional bundle, global packages and a day pass also cover Saudi Arabia. Its page said no ID is needed and that hotspot depends on the operator, with 180 days to activate. In our test the plan started at purchase, not on arrival, so buy it close to the trip, and the help desk was among the slowest we tested, as our Yesim review shows. Its fixed plans sit above the market average. An experienced user who wants unlimited by the day might still choose it (Yesim's Saudi page).

Ubigi is the travel eSIM brand of Paris operator Transatel, with one reusable eSIM for 200+ destinations. Data was fast in our test, and its 3 GB, 10 GB and 30-day unlimited plans are cheap. Its weak point is support: a chatbot that ends in an email ticket, with no live agent.

Ubigi eSIM in our hands

Ubigi testing preview Ubigi testing speed 1 Ubigi testing speed 2 Ubigi testing support

Ubigi has no traveler reports from Saudi Arabia yet, so its place rests on our test, where the network side was strong and everything else was weak. Its page names Zain Saudi Arabia with 5G, a six-month window to activate before the eSIM expires, data sharing allowed, and activation on arrival [11]. Zain has the broadest 5G footprint by coverage time in the WePlan Analytics report, and the worst latency, so this is a choice for downloads rather than video calls.

Saudi plans in our comparison tool are 1 GB for 7 days, 3 GB for 30 days and 10 GB for 7 or 30 days; there is no 5 GB or 20 GB Saudi plan, and a Best Middle East regional plan adds unlimited. Ubigi can still sell you more data at zero balance, one of only two providers that can, and the speed showed no throttling in our test. The reasons it sits here: a clunky site and app, no refund once the QR code is scanned, and the worst help desk outcome we tested, with no reply to a ticket within 24 hours, as our Ubigi review shows. Its price position is slightly below the market average, better for 3 and 10 GB. Tech-savvy travelers who want 5G on Zain might still choose it (cellulardata.ubigi.com).

Roamless eSIM in our hands

Roamless testing preview Roamless testing speed 1 Roamless testing speed 2 Roamless testing support

Roamless has no traveler reports from Saudi Arabia yet, and we could not confirm which network it uses here: its product page named stc with 4G and 5G in every language version we read on 26 Sep 2026, while its own blog names Zain, so we leave it as unknown [14]. Across all countries it has the third-best record of the 14 providers in our report data, which is why the lack of Saudi reports is a gap rather than a warning.

The model is different from the rest: one global eSIM with pay-as-you-go credit that never expires, charged per MB at a flat rate, plus 30-day Saudi plans from 1 GB to 50 GB and a free trial plan. Its page claims no speed limit ever and unlimited hotspot, and sells in-app calls and an optional second number for calls and SMS [14]. In our test the preselected APN did not work until we picked a different one, and the speed test failed until we switched network by hand, as our Roamless review explains; a human on the help desk fixed it in under half an hour. On price it is among the cheapest for 1 GB and among the dearest from 10 GB up, because there is no volume discount. Frequent multi-country light users might choose it (Roamless Saudi page).

Saily eSIM in our hands

Saily testing outdoor Saily testing speed 1 Saily testing speed 2 Saily testing support

Saily has no traveler reports from Saudi Arabia yet, so it cannot be a pick, even though its app, installation and help desk were the most polished we tested. Its page does not name a Saudi network, promising only "Saudi Arabia's best networks", with 5G, no hotspot restrictions and 180 days to activate [15].

Saudi plans in our comparison tool are 1 GB for 7 days and 3, 5, 10 and 20 GB for 30 days; a Middle East and North Africa regional plan and Global plans also cover the country, and its page listed Saudi unlimited plans from 5 to 30 days when we checked in September 2026 [15]. The add-on phone number is a US number, not a Saudi one. The eSIM exists only in the app, which may be blocked in some countries, so install before you fly. The reason it sits here beyond the missing reports is price: Saily is among the two most expensive providers in most popular destinations in our comparison, as our Saily review shows. A first-time eSIM user who values the help desk over price might still choose it (Saily's Saudi page).

GigSky eSIM in our hands

GigSky testing outdoor GigSky testing speed 1 GigSky testing speed 2 GigSky testing support

GigSky has no traveler reports from Saudi Arabia yet, and it had the highest price per GB of any provider in our comparison tool's Saudi export, which is why it sits last. Its page fixes no network and says it connects to the fastest network available, with a free 100 MB trial eSIM for Saudi Arabia [18].

Saudi plans in our comparison tool are 1, 3, 5 and 10 GB plus 50 GB and 100 GB on 90 or 180 days, and a Cruise and Middle East regional plan adds unlimited. Two things set it apart in our test: a human answered the help desk at once, and the app stays online after the data runs out, so you can buy a new plan without Wi-Fi, as our GigSky review shows. Against that, you must install the app to buy, and the speed felt unstable in our test. GigSky's price position is the most expensive overall in our comparison. Cruise passengers on the Red Sea and travelers who want a one-day pass might still choose it (GigSky's Saudi page).

Providers travelers report from Saudi Arabia that we have not tested

Best eSIM Plans for Saudi Arabia

Price per GB in Saudi Arabia by eSIM Provider

How much does each provider charge per GB in Saudi Arabia? The chart below compares plans of 1 to 10 GB that last 6 to 14 days, the usual range for a one- or two-week Umrah or business trip. Provider websites show only their own plans, so this side-by-side view is one you would otherwise have to calculate yourself. A shorter bar means a lower price per GB.

Generated 25.10.2026 13:34

The tables below show the current cheapest plans at each size. Thirteen of the 14 providers sell a plan that covers Saudi Arabia in our comparison tool; Holafly's plans are only on its own page. Unlimited is sold here by Airalo, ByteSIM and Nomad as Saudi plans, by Maya Mobile as a global plan, and by Jetpac, Ubigi, GigSky and eSIM4Travel as regional plans, each with its own daily allowance before the slowdown, so read the terms before you compare the prices. If you are combining the trip with Dubai or Abu Dhabi, our United Arab Emirates guide covers the other side, and the two-country comparison for Saudi Arabia and the UAE shows only the plans that cover both. Best eSIM for Jeddah, Mecca and Riyadh

Maya Mobile is the pick for Jeddah on its own reports; everywhere else the country pick applies, because no provider has 3 or more reports in any other place. The city rows below use only reports that name a place, which is why the counts are small; most of the 62 reports name Saudi Arabia without a city.

Where you are goingWhat the reports showOur pick
JeddahMaya Mobile 3/3, Holafly 1/1Maya Mobile (Holafly also worked, with capped speed in our test)
MeccaMaya Mobile 2/2, Holafly 1/1, GoMoWorld 1/1Country pick applies, no provider has 3 or more reports here
Riyadhtoo few reportsCountry pick applies
Medinatoo few reportsCountry pick applies
Khobartoo few reportsCountry pick applies

Best eSIM for Jeddah

Maya Mobile is the pick for Jeddah, the only place in Saudi Arabia where one provider has 3 reports, and all 3 worked. Holafly's single Jeddah report also worked, so the runner-up has no miss to describe, only the speed cap from our test. Jeddah is where most Umrah travelers land and where the Haramain railway to Mecca and Medina starts, so a plan that works here covers the whole corridor for most trips. None of the Jeddah reports describes airport setup, so we cannot say how long the first connection took at King Abdulaziz Airport.

Best eSIM for Mecca

The country pick, Maya Mobile, applies in Mecca, where it worked for 2 of 2 but no provider reaches the 3-report threshold. Holafly's one Mecca report and GoMoWorld's one report both worked too, the latter from a pilgrim who used the same eSIM on four continents in late 2025. There is no reported miss in Mecca from any provider in our files. What the reports cannot show is load: during Hajj and Ramadan every network around the holy sites is busy, so a slow connection in the crowds is not a sign that your eSIM has failed.

There are no traveler reports from AlUla, the Asir mountains or the Red Sea coast yet. The regulator says rural coverage there rests on national roaming between the three operators [1], and Holafly's own page warns of weaker or unstable quality in deserts and mountains [8], so for those trips the network section below matters more than the city table.

Local SIM Cards and Operator eSIMs in Saudi Arabia

A Saudi SIM card for tourists is cheaper per GB than any travel eSIM once you need more than about 5 GB, and it is the only way to get a Saudi +966 number, but it costs you a branch visit with your passport. stc's Sawa Visitor packages, as of September 2026 and with 15% VAT included, run from Visitor 26 at SAR 31.00 for 5 GB, an hour of local and international calls and two weeks, through Visitor 47 at SAR 55.00 for 20 GB and two hours over two weeks, Visitor 65 at SAR 75.00 for 32 GB over three weeks and Visitor 86 at SAR 100.00 for 50 GB over four weeks, up to Visitor 165 at SAR 190.00 for 102 GB. After the bundle, data costs SAR 2.00 per MB. You must visit an stc branch on arrival to activate the number, and the page said this offer set ran until 28 Sep 2026, so check for a newer table [3].

Mobily's Visitors packages, as of September 2026, start at a tiny 0.2 GB entry package with 20 national minutes and go up to Visitors 100 with 20 GB, unlimited social media and unlimited national minutes over 14 days; VAT is charged on the recharge, so none is added at subscription [4]. Zain's Visitor packages (Visitor 30 to 160, plus 85 Plus and 120 Plus) carry a one-time setup fee of SAR 10.00 including VAT on new activations, quote prices without the 15% VAT, which is collected on recharge, and exclude Visitor customers from Zain's international calling bundles; a 24-hour unlimited data add-on costs SAR 12.65 including VAT, or SAR 17.25 with unlimited local calls [5]. We could not confirm Zain's per-package data allowances, which its page renders only in the browser.

Registration is the catch. Two third-party guides report that a passport and visa are required and that visitor SIMs must come from official stores or authorised retailers; one provider page adds that a fingerprint is usually taken in store, which we could not confirm against a regulator source. A third-party guide reports stc, Zain and Mobily kiosks at Riyadh and Jeddah airports with fewer plans and higher prices than city stores; we could not confirm airport prices. All three operators provision eSIMs by QR code through their own apps, but the same identity check applies, so a local operator eSIM saves you the plastic, not the queue.

So: a local SIM beats a travel eSIM on a trip of two weeks or more with 20 GB or more, or whenever you need a +966 number for a delivery app or a local account; a travel eSIM wins on a short trip, on arrival day, and for anyone who wants their home number live alongside it. One more thing one provider page points out: apps that verify with a Saudi number cannot be set up on a data-only travel eSIM, so create your Nusuk, Careem or delivery accounts at home while your normal SIM can still receive SMS.

Mobile Networks in Saudi Arabia

stc is the best network for an arriving traveler, Mobily the best for video calls in cities you know are covered, and Zain the one with the widest 5G footprint but the weakest latency. Saudi Arabia has three physical networks, stc, Mobily and Zain, which between them hold almost the whole market according to WePlan Analytics. According to Opensignal's February 2026 report, stc wins the coverage and 5G coverage awards, while Mobily wins reliability, consistent quality and video experience and Zain sits a band below both. WePlan Analytics' October 2025 report gives stc the lowest daily disconnection time and highest availability, Mobily the best latency and the highest active 5G use, and Zain the most time under 5G coverage. The regulator CST reports 99% internet usage in 2024 and says 21,000 villages and localities are reached through national roaming between the operators, which is why rural signal depends less on your brand than city signal does [1]. None of the files gives a 3G shutdown date; several provider pages still list 3G alongside 4G and 5G.

Which eSIM rides which network, as the providers' own pages state it: Nomad on stc [9], ByteSIM on stc with Mobily and Zain as backup on its voice plans [13], eSIM4Travel on Mobily [7], Holafly on Mobily [8], Airalo on Zain [10], Ubigi on Zain with 5G [11], and Global YO on Zain at 4G only [12]. Roamless's product page says stc and its own blog says Zain, so we could not confirm it [14]. Saily [15], GoMoWorld [16], Maya Mobile [17] and GigSky [18] name no network and describe automatic selection, and Jetpac and Yesim did not name one on their pages when we checked in September 2026. A third-party review site says Nomad uses Zain; Nomad's own page names stc only. Only eSIM4Travel, ByteSIM and Ubigi name a network and promise 5G on it.

What this means for a trip: in Jeddah, Mecca, Medina, Riyadh and on the east coast every network is fine and the record in the reports matters more than the operator. For AlUla, the Asir or a desert drive, stc's reach is the safest bet, which favours Nomad and ByteSIM on paper, while eSIM4Travel and Holafly on Mobily are the consistency choice in cities. If you want to see the maps yourself, stc's store locator carries its signal maps and airport outlets [6], and our guide to eSIMs with several networks explains how to switch operator by hand when a provider offers more than one.

How to Set Up an eSIM for Saudi Arabia

Install at home, on Wi-Fi, before you fly; almost every plan here starts on the first connection in Saudi Arabia, not at installation. The exceptions in our tests: GoMoWorld does nothing until you press Start or schedule a start in the app, Yesim's plan started at purchase, and some Airalo packages start at install.

  1. Check your phone. Most recent iPhones and Samsung, Google and Xiaomi flagships have eSIM, but iPhones sold in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao have none except a few models, as eSIM4Travel and Simify both list on their pages. Our list of phones with eSIM support has the details.
  2. Buy and receive the eSIM. GoMoWorld, Saily, Roamless and GigSky deliver only in their apps, and Global YO requires the app to buy before emailing the QR code; eSIM4Travel, Airalo, Maya Mobile, Ubigi, Yesim, ByteSIM, Jetpac, Nomad and Holafly send a QR code by email. Watch the activation window: Nomad's page gives 60 days, eSIM4Travel 90, Jetpac 3 months, Saily and Yesim 180 days, Ubigi 6 months, and Roamless credit never expires.
  3. Install it at home. Scan the QR code or tap in the app; our guides for adding an eSIM on iPhone and adding an eSIM on Samsung walk through the screens. Install once: Global YO, Ubigi and Holafly profiles cannot be reinstalled after deletion.
  4. Set the data line. Turn on data roaming for the new eSIM, and set the APN where the provider asks: "globaldata" for Maya Mobile and Global YO, "gigsky" for GigSky, "mobiledata" for Ubigi; Roamless worked in our test only after we swapped the preselected APN.
  5. On landing, switch mobile data to the eSIM and keep your home SIM on for SMS codes. If nothing connects, toggle airplane mode, then check the APN and roaming before contacting the help desk; our troubleshooting guide covers the usual causes.

Calls and SMS in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia's calling code is +966, and no provider in this article sells a confirmed Saudi number, so a local SIM is the only way to get one. What the providers do offer: ByteSIM sells Saudi voice bundles with minutes and SMS on its page, without saying which country the number belongs to [13]; Airalo's Discover+ global plans include a US number; Saily sells a US number add-on for calls, SMS and verification codes [15]; Jetpac sells in-app voice packs; Roamless sells in-app calls and an optional second number [14]; and Global YO's app makes outgoing calls. Everything else here is data only.

App calling is the open question. The regulator eased restrictions on some internet calling apps in September 2017, and reporting from that time says WhatsApp was not among them; whether WhatsApp voice and video calls work today is disputed between current sources, with GoMoWorld's own blog describing them as sometimes restricted and others calling them intermittent. Two third-party sources suggest a travel eSIM's data passes through a foreign gateway and may escape local filtering; we could not confirm that. Plan on text messaging working and treat voice over WhatsApp as a bonus. If a number matters, the stc, Mobily and Zain visitor packages in the local SIM section include minutes.

Free eSIM Data for Saudi Arabia

Yes, a few providers give away a little data that works in Saudi Arabia. GigSky's page offers a free 100 MB trial eSIM for Saudi Arabia [18], Roamless lists a free trial plan for Saudi Arabia in our comparison tool, and Nomad's free 1 GB trial and GoMoWorld's free one-day trial are global, as our tests found. Holafly's "Always On" allowance adds 1 GB every 30 days after a plan ends if you keep the eSIM installed [8]. None of these replaces a plan for a week, but 100 MB is enough to test that your phone and the network get on before you pay. Our free eSIM data guide lists every trial we know of.

eSIM4Travel had the lowest price per GB in our comparison tool's Saudi export, followed by Global YO and Roamless, though it has no Saudi traveler reports yet. Global YO is usually among the cheapest for 10 GB and more and worked for 5 of 7 travelers. Prices move, so the live chart and tables above are the place to check, or use (eSIM Comparison).
How much data do I need for Saudi Arabia?
Most travelers manage a week of maps, messaging, ride-hailing and social media on 3 to 5 GB. Video calls home, streaming in the hotel and sharing data with a second phone push that to 10 GB or an unlimited plan with a daily allowance. For a number based on your own habits, use (Travel Data Calculator).
Which eSIM is best for Jeddah and Mecca?
Maya Mobile is the pick for Jeddah, where all 3 of its reports worked, and the country pick applies in Mecca, where it worked for 2 of 2 and nobody has 3 reports. Holafly also worked in both cities in single reports, with capped speed in our test. No report from Mecca describes a failure; crowds during Hajj and Ramadan slow every network there.
Can I buy a Saudi Arabia SIM card for tourists at the airport?
A third-party guide reports stc, Zain and Mobily kiosks at Riyadh and Jeddah airports with fewer plans and higher prices than city stores; we could not confirm airport prices. You need your passport and visa, and stc requires a branch visit to activate the number. A travel eSIM installed at home avoids the queue, and the local SIM section above lists the current visitor packages with prices.
Do WhatsApp calls work on a Saudi Arabia eSIM?
Nobody can promise it. Restrictions on some internet calling apps were eased in 2017, but current sources disagree on whether WhatsApp voice and video work today, and some describe it as intermittent. Messaging works. If calls matter, a local visitor SIM with minutes or a provider with in-app calling, like Jetpac or Roamless, is the safer route. Saudi Arabia's calling code is +966.
Do I need a passport or ID to use a travel eSIM in Saudi Arabia?
No. A travel eSIM is a roaming connection bought from a foreign provider, and ByteSIM, Global YO and Yesim state on their pages that no ID is required. A local Saudi SIM or operator eSIM is different: it needs your passport and visa at an official store. A plan from any provider in this article can be installed at home before you fly (Kody Rabatowe na eSIM | Oszczędzaj Więcej na Danych | Vefru).

Summary: the best eSIM for Saudi Arabia

Based on 62 traveler reports and our own tests, Maya Mobile is the best option for most trips to Saudi Arabia in 2026: it worked well for 23 of 28 travelers, including every report from Jeddah, Mecca, Medina and Riyadh, and its global unlimited plan has the fairest daily allowance we tested, with a weak help desk and nothing for a one-day stop as the trade-offs. Holafly worked for 5 of 6 and is the simplest unlimited option, but its speed was capped from the start in our test and its hotspot is limited to a gigabyte a day. Global YO worked for 5 of 7 and is usually among the cheapest for 10 GB and up, on a 4G-only Saudi plan with slow support. Nomad worked for 7 of 10 on stc and suits experienced users, because its help desk could not be reached in our test.

eSIM4Travel has no Saudi reports yet but had the lowest price per GB in our comparison and the best help desk we tested; it has no app and needs Wi-Fi to top up. Airalo, with 2 of 6, is the one big name we would not recommend here. For a stay of two weeks or more with a lot of data, or for a +966 number, an stc or Mobily visitor SIM is cheaper and the passport queue is the price. For everyone else, the best eSIM for Saudi Arabia is one you install at home, and the live tables above show today's prices.
