Key takeaways
With only 17 traveler reports from Kazakhstan so far, every recommendation rests on limited evidence. Based on those reports and our tests, the best option for most trips is Nomad: it worked well for all 3 travelers who reported from Kazakhstan, though it uses only Beeline, the weakest network in Opensignal's 2026 measurements, and our test found no route to a human on its help desk. Maya Mobile suits a week or more of heavy use: its global unlimited plan worked well for 3 of 4 travelers, with the one miss in Almaty. eSIM4Travel is the cheapest here and worked for the 1 traveler who reported, but has no app.

The best eSIM for Kazakhstan is a question of networks more than prices. Every travel eSIM we compared rides one of three operators: Beeline, Kcell or Tele2. Only Kcell publishes audited coverage figures, and they describe where people live: 86.01% of the population on 4G and 53.54% on 5G at the end of 2025 [3]. The steppe between towns, the Almaty to Astana rail corridor, Charyn Canyon, the Kolsai lakes and interior Mangystau are not where people live, so expect gaps there whichever eSIM you carry.
Most trips are long hops between cities: Almaty to Astana is about 1,200 km, an overnight train or a two-hour flight. Arrivals concentrate on Almaty and Astana airports, with Turkistan growing. Peak seasons are summer for the steppe, lakes and the valleys around Almaty, and December to March for the Shymbulak, Burabay and Altai ski areas. Kcell still runs 3G for 93.89% of the population [3], while Tele2 is reported to be switching its 3G frequencies over to 4G, so an older phone that only does 3G is not a safe bet on every network.
One rule sets Kazakhstan apart. A phone that takes a local SIM must be registered with the state by its IMEI number, on your passport if you are a foreigner, and operators may not serve an unregistered phone. Roamers are exempt, and a travel eSIM counts as roaming [2]. That alone is a reason many short-stay travelers skip the local SIM counter. If you want a Kazakh number anyway, two travel sites report that all three operators have kiosks next to each other in the Almaty arrivals hall; the local SIM section below covers the prices they photographed.

How well each provider's eSIM works in Kazakhstan
The Vefru score is our overall rating of the provider. The percentage shows how many reviewers said their eSIM worked well in Kazakhstan. Since unhappy customers review more often, it is best used to compare providers with each other.

How we got these numbers: we read 17 public customer reviews that mention Kazakhstan or a place in it, published between May 2026 and August 2026, and counted a report as "worked" when the reviewer said the eSIM connected, even with small hiccups. We treat 20 or more reports as strong evidence, 3 to 19 as limited, and fewer than 3 as too few to judge. A count like 3 of 4 means the eSIM worked well for 3 of the 4 travelers who reported from here; each provider section says what went wrong for the rest. The Vefru test score is a separate number: our own hands-on test of the provider, run outside Kazakhstan, so it says how the provider behaves, not how the network performs here. Local operator prices in the text were checked on 25 Sep 2026; provider ratings, the plan tables and the price-per-GB chart are live and update on their own.

We ranked on traveler reports from Kazakhstan first, price position second and our own hands-on findings third; only Nomad and Maya Mobile reach the 3 reports we need for a recommendation, and eSIM4Travel joins them as the cheapest provider in our comparison for Kazakhstan with a help desk that put us through to a person in one click.

Nomad is a US travel eSIM brand run by LotusFlare, with plans for more than 200 destinations. It has a polished native app, fast data and prices close to the market average almost everywhere. Its weak spot is support: the chat is an AI bot with no route to a human.

Nomad eSIM in our hands
Nomad is our pick for most trips to Kazakhstan because it is the only provider with a clean record here: it worked well for 3 of 3 travelers who reported from Kazakhstan (100%), which is limited evidence. None of the three reports was tied to a specific city, so we cannot say which places they cover. What they have in common is that the eSIM connected and stayed connected; there were no misses to explain.
The record comes with two caveats you should weigh. Nomad's Kazakhstan plans run on Beeline alone, and the plan listing in our comparison tool says the same, as of October 2026. Beeline had the lowest download speed and the smallest share of time on 4G or 5G of the three operators in Opensignal's measurements from the second half of 2025, though it scored highest on Opensignal's reliability metric. Nomad's page claimed both "4G" and "5G/4G" for Kazakhstan when the research checked in September 2026; three sources report that Beeline holds no 5G spectrum, so treat the 5G claim as unverified and plan on 4G. The second caveat is from our hands-on test: Nomad's chat bot looped on a simple APN question and offered no route to a human, so if something breaks you are on your own until an email reply arrives.
The plan ladder is plain: Kazakhstan plans from 1 GB (3 or 7 days) to 50 GB for 30 days, with add-on data, and a 1 GB trial plan marked as free. There is no unlimited plan for Kazakhstan. Regional Global and Global-EX plans with validity up to a year also cover the country. The app has a home-screen widget showing remaining data, the eSIM arrives as a QR code by email, and the plan starts on first connection. One thing to watch: the listing in our comparison tool gives 30 days to activate as of October 2026, while Nomad's page said 60 days when checked in September 2026, so do not buy months ahead. On price Nomad sits just below the market average across all countries, but in Kazakhstan it is in the middle of the field, well above eSIM4Travel and Global YO. The main drawback is the help desk; the full Nomad test shows how the bot behaved. Buy it from Nomad if you are happy to solve small problems yourself.

Maya Mobile eSIM in our hands
Maya Mobile is the pick for stays of a week or more where you will use a lot of data, because it sells only one thing, a global unlimited plan, and it is the cheapest global unlimited plan in our comparison. It worked well for 3 of 4 travelers who reported from Kazakhstan (75%), limited evidence. The one miss was reported from Almaty; it is the only Maya Mobile report tied to a city, and the other three do not say where in the country they were.
Two things about Maya Mobile have shifted for Kazakhstan. In May 2026 there were reports of Kazakhstan-specific Maya plans listing Beeline and Tele2; those plans have since been withdrawn, and as of September 2026 Maya's page names no network for the country. So the Almaty miss cannot be tied to a network, and you cannot pick one. Our comparison tool lists no Kazakhstan plan, only the global unlimited plans for 3, 7, 14 and 30 days and a Global plus Cruise version of each, as of October 2026.
What sets Maya apart is the fair-use rule: 5 GB a day at full speed, then slowed until the next day, with hotspot and top-up allowed. In our test that was the fairest unlimited plan we tried: no cap from the start, and the slowdown reset daily. Installation took one click, but you set the APN to "globaldata" and switch data roaming on yourself. The help desk is a WhatsApp bot that ignores your first message and sends a form, then a person replies within minutes with template answers. The plan is data only, nothing is sold for under 3 days, and a full refund applies only if no data was used within 30 days. It suits a Central Asia loop through Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan on one eSIM; it is poor value for a two-day stopover. The Maya Mobile test has the speed and help desk details. You can buy it from Maya Mobile.

eSIM4Travel eSIM in our hands
eSIM4Travel is the pick if price matters most: it is the cheapest provider in our comparison for Kazakhstan at every size from 3 GB to 10 GB, and it had the cheapest verified 10 GB plan in the research we ran in September 2026. Only 1 traveler has reported from Kazakhstan so far, and that report was positive; one report is too few to judge, so the case for eSIM4Travel rests on price and on our hands-on test, not on a country record.
In our test, run outside Kazakhstan, the eSIM installed from a QR code and worked right away, and the help desk put us through from a short bot to a person in one click, who solved the problem and suggested switching network. That matters here more than in most countries, because eSIM4Travel's Kazakhstan plans name two networks, Beeline and Tele2, and Tele2 won four of eight Opensignal metrics for the second half of 2025. Earlier listings named only Beeline. The plan arrives by email, no app needed.
The range of plans is the widest in Kazakhstan: 100 MB and 500 MB day passes, 1 GB to 50 GB plans, and unlimited plans from 3 to 30 days at 3 GB a day before speeds drop, with hotspot allowed. A Central Asia 4 plan covers Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan from 1 GB to 50 GB, plus unlimited versions. You have 90 days to activate, and the plan starts on first connection. The downsides are real: no app, no Google Pay at checkout, and no way to buy more data without Wi-Fi once the plan runs out. Refunds are possible within two months if under 10% of the data was used. The eSIM4Travel test shows the help desk chat. Plans are on the eSIM4Travel Kazakhstan page.

Ubigi is the travel eSIM brand of Paris operator Transatel, with one reusable eSIM for 200+ destinations. Data was fast in our test, and its 3 GB, 10 GB and 30-day unlimited plans are cheap. Its weak point is support: a chatbot that ends in an email ticket, with no live agent.

Ubigi eSIM in our hands
Ubigi connected for both travelers who reported from Kazakhstan, 2 of 2 (100%), but two reports are too few to judge, and one of them describes the data as slow. Both travelers used a World plan across Central Asia; both say it failed in Tajikistan and worked in Kazakhstan. One wrote in May 2026 that it "worked in the other countries I needed it (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey), but the connection was quite slow", slower than local SIMs. The other said in June 2026 that Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan worked well.
Ubigi's Kazakhstan plans run on Beeline and Tele2 with 5G marked as unavailable, as of September 2026, which fits the slow-data report. The plans are 1 GB for 7 days, 3 GB for 15 days, 10 GB for 7 or 30 days and 25 GB for 30 days, plus unlimited for 7 days (20 GB at full speed, then slowed) and 15 days (30 GB, then slowed). Asia, World and Best World plans also cover the country. Ubigi can sell you more data at zero balance, which almost nobody else can, and it sits a little below the market average on price. What keeps it out of the top group is our test: the website and app were the clumsiest we used, and a help ticket went unanswered for 24 hours, the worst outcome of the 14; the Ubigi test has the details. Experienced users who want two networks and a reusable eSIM can buy from Ubigi.

Global YO eSIM in our hands
Global YO is the second-cheapest provider in our comparison for Kazakhstan, but 1 of 1 reports (100%) is too few to recommend it on record. The single traveler reported that it worked; nothing in the reports describes a miss, and nothing ties the report to a city.
The Kazakhstan plans run on Beeline on 4G only, as stated on Global YO's page in September 2026: 1 GB for 3 days, 3 GB and 5 GB for 15 days, 10 GB and 20 GB for 30 days, 50 GB for 45 days and 100 GB for 60 days, plus Day Plans for 3 to 30 days with a daily allowance that the listing in our comparison tool gives as 3 GB in the name and 1 GB in the terms, as of October 2026. Asia Explorer and Global Explorer plans cover the country too. Global YO gets cheaper as plans grow, so it is the one to look at for 20 GB and up. The catch from our test is the help desk: a template reply after 10 minutes and more than 30 minutes for a follow-up, and the app dies once data runs out, which is why it suits travelers who install at home and will not need help; see the Global YO test. Purchase is app only, with the QR code emailed afterwards. Plans are on the Global YO Kazakhstan page.

ByteSIM eSIM in our hands
ByteSIM has 1 of 1 reports (100%) from Kazakhstan, too few to judge, and we could not find a Kazakhstan product page on its site when the research checked in September 2026, so its network here is unknown. The one traveler said the eSIM worked; no report describes a miss.
Our comparison tool does list a large ByteSIM catalogue for Kazakhstan as of October 2026: daily plans of 500 MB to 3 GB a day for 1 to 30 days, fixed plans from 3 GB to 90 GB, and unlimited plans for 1 to 30 days with a fair-use rule whose limit ByteSIM does not state. ByteSIM sells no top-ups, so you buy a new plan when one runs out. It sits around the market average on price and charges more for longer validity. What places it here is our test: the checkout demanded a phone number and full postal address, the app failed at auto-activation, and a WhatsApp help desk that promises replies in minutes sent none in 15 minutes; the ByteSIM test shows the screens. It can still suit experienced users who want a short daily plan or a local wallet like Alipay at checkout, via ByteSIM.

Yesim eSIM in our hands
Yesim worked for the 1 traveler who reported from Kazakhstan, 1 of 1 (100%), which is too few to judge. The reports describe no miss. Yesim's Kazakhstan page could not be reached when the research tried in September 2026, so we could not confirm its live plans or which network it uses.
Our comparison tool lists Yesim for Kazakhstan as of October 2026 with unlimited plans sold by the day, from 1 to 30 days, and fixed plans of 500 MB for a day and 1 GB to 30 GB for 30 days, plus a CIS regional bundle and Global packages. Yesim does not publish the speed limit on its unlimited plans. The fixed plans are among the dearer ones in most countries; unlimited is at the market average. Two findings from our test keep it here: our plan started counting at purchase rather than on first use, so buy close to departure or use the activate-later option, and the help desk took 15 to 60 minutes per reply, among the slowest we tested; the Yesim test has the timings. Experienced users who want unlimited data by the day can buy on the Yesim Kazakhstan page.

GigSky eSIM in our hands
GigSky worked for its 1 reporting traveler, 1 of 1 (100%), too few to judge, and it is the most expensive provider in our comparison for Kazakhstan. The report describes no miss. GigSky picks the network automatically and names none for Kazakhstan on its page, as of September 2026.
The Kazakhstan ladder is 1 GB for 7 days, 3 GB for 15 days, 5 GB and 10 GB for 30 days and a 1-day unlimited pass with a daily allowance before speeds drop; Asia Pacific, World Plan and World Plan Lite plans cover the country as well. GigSky's one real edge is that its app stays online after the data runs out, so you can buy a new plan without Wi-Fi, and a person answered our help request right away. Everything else in our test was middling: an app that is a wrapped website, an installation that needed a physical-SIM toggle, and the highest price of the 14 providers overall; the GigSky test explains the price pattern. It suits a traveler who values that zero-data top-up above cost, via the GigSky Kazakhstan page.

Holafly eSIM in our hands
Holafly worked for 1 of 2 travelers who reported from Kazakhstan (50%), too few to judge, and the miss was in Astana. In our test, run outside Kazakhstan, Holafly's speed was capped from the start, before any data was used, at a small fraction of what a local SIM got on the same cell. That is enough for maps, messaging, browsing and streaming, and slow for large downloads, uploads, cloud backups and laptop work. The hotspot is limited to 1 GB a day, and there are no top-ups; you buy a new eSIM instead.
Holafly's page names Tele2 and Beeline for Kazakhstan and warns that deserts and mountains may have no coverage, as of September 2026. It sells only unlimited plans priced by the day, from 1 to 90 days, with a fair-use rule it does not quantify, and a free Always On allowance after the plan ends. Our comparison tool, though, lists no Holafly plan for Kazakhstan as of October 2026, so there is no plan table here and you would have to check Holafly's own page. Holafly has the best overall traveler record of the 14 providers, but in Kazakhstan that record is one success and one miss, and its unlimited plans are the most expensive of their kind in about half of our comparisons; the Holafly test shows the speed finding. A traveler who wants to stop thinking about data allowances can check the Holafly Kazakhstan page.

Jetpac eSIM in our hands
Jetpac's only report from Kazakhstan is a failure, 0 of 1 (0%), too few to judge but not encouraging. In August 2026 a traveler who bought a 3-day global plan for Kazakhstan wrote that it connected to what he called the worst possible network and said other providers would have put him on a faster one. Jetpac names no network for Kazakhstan on its page, as of September 2026, so we cannot say which operator that was.
Our comparison tool lists Jetpac's Kazakhstan plans as of October 2026: 1 GB for 4 days, 3 GB for 7 days, 5 GB to 40 GB for 30 days, and unlimited for 1 to 30 days with 3 GB per 24 hours before speeds drop. The 10 GB and larger plans and every unlimited plan are flagged 4G only; only the 1 GB, 3 GB and 5 GB plans say 5G. In September 2026 the 30 GB plan cost less than the 20 GB plan, an inversion Jetpac's page confirmed at the time. Jetpac's extras are what people buy it for: WhatsApp, Maps, Uber and Grab keep working after the data runs out on packs of 3 GB and up, in-app voice packs, unlimited hotspot and a free lounge if your flight is delayed by an hour. Our test found a slow site, a rough app and an 8-minute wait for a technical first reply; the Jetpac test has the details. Price is around the market average here. Frequent flyers who want those extras can buy from Jetpac.

GoMoWorld eSIM in our hands
GoMoWorld has no traveler reports from Kazakhstan yet, so there is nothing to judge its record on. It names no network for Kazakhstan on its page, as of September 2026, though the listing in our comparison tool carries a 5G badge.
GoMoWorld charges four fixed euro prices everywhere and varies the data by country; for Kazakhstan that means 1.7 GB for 7 days and 7 GB, 17 GB or 26 GB for 30 days as of October 2026, plus a free 1-day trial. There is no unlimited plan and no regional plan covering the country. Tethering is allowed and the plan does not start until you press Start in the app, so you can buy ahead. In our test it was the fastest provider of the 14 with no throttling even after heavy daily use, which is why it still earns a look for heavy users. It sits here because nobody has reported from Kazakhstan, the eSIM is never emailed (app only, one account per device) and humans on the help desk work office hours only; the GoMoWorld test shows the Start step that trips people up. Below the market average on price overall. Plans are at GoMoWorld.

Roamless is a US provider built around one global eSIM for 203 destinations, paid with pay-as-you-go credit. It was fast and unthrottled in our test, and travelers report it working in 91% of cases. Its weak point is buying: the website forces you into the app, and large data amounts cost more than most rivals.

Roamless eSIM in our hands
Roamless has no traveler reports from Kazakhstan yet. Its page names Kcell and Tele2 for Kazakhstan, both marked 5G, as of September 2026, which makes it the only provider here on the two networks that led Opensignal's measurements, and the only one that lists Kcell without Beeline. The listing in our comparison tool names Kcell. With no reports we cannot say how that plays out on the ground.
Roamless is one global eSIM with pay-as-you-go credit charged per megabyte at a flat rate, plus Kazakhstan plans of 1 GB to 50 GB for 30 days and a No Expiration range from 1 GB to 100 GB, and a free Kazakhstan trial allowance, as of October 2026. Roamless says it never limits speed and allows unlimited hotspot, and the app offers VoIP calls and an optional second number. The pay-as-you-go pricing makes it one of the cheapest for 1 GB and one of the dearest for 10 GB and up, so it suits light users who move between countries. In our test the preselected APN did not work until we picked a different one, Google Pay failed at checkout and the eSIM is app only; the Roamless test shows the fix. Plans are on the Roamless Kazakhstan page.

Airalo eSIM in our hands
Airalo has no traveler reports from Kazakhstan yet, and across all countries it had the lowest traveler record of the 14 providers, with about twice the market's share of failures, so we would not put it ahead of the providers with reports here. Its Kazakhstan page names Kcell, and Airalo's own package text, as syndicated on other sites, adds Tele2; the research could confirm Kcell on the page and treats Tele2 as reported.
The Kazaknet plans are 1 GB for 3 days, 3 GB for 3 or 7 days, 5 GB to 20 GB for 7, 15 or 30 days, 50 GB for 30 days and unlimited for 3 to 30 days at 3 GB a day before the speed drops, as listed in our comparison tool in October 2026; the research found two conflicting price ladders for the fixed plans and could not verify either. Discover and Discover+ global plans cover the country, and Discover+ includes a US number with calls and texts. Airalo installed without any settings in our test and purchase works in a browser, which is why beginners like it, but it is never the cheapest in a popular destination and sits at the market average here; the Airalo test covers the help desk queue. Plans are on the Airalo Kazakhstan page.

Saily is the travel eSIM from the company behind NordVPN, with plans for about 200 destinations. It has the smoothest install we have tested, a polished app and a built-in VPN. But prices run above the market in most big European destinations, and traveler reports sit below average.

Saily eSIM in our hands
Saily has no traveler reports from Kazakhstan yet, so its record here is blank. Its page names no network for Kazakhstan, as of September 2026. What Saily has is the smoothest app, installation and help desk of the 14 in our test: in-app install with no QR code, a reminder to switch data roaming on, and a person on chat within minutes who asked for screenshots.
The Kazakhstan plans are 1 GB for 7 days and 3 GB to 20 GB for 30 days, with Asia and Oceania and Global plans covering the country too, as of October 2026. Saily's page also listed a 15-day unlimited plan in September 2026, but our comparison tool does not carry it. You have 180 days to activate, hotspot is unrestricted, and a US number is an optional add-on. The reason Saily is not a pick here is price: it is among the two most expensive providers in 14 of the 24 most visited destinations and never the cheapest, and in Kazakhstan it sits in the upper half of the field; the Saily test shows what you get for that. First-time eSIM users who want hand-holding can buy on the Saily Kazakhstan page.

Best eSIM Plans for Kazakhstan
Price per GB in Kazakhstan by eSIM Provider
How much does each provider charge per GB in Kazakhstan? The chart below compares plans of 1 to 10 GB that last 6 to 14 days, the usual range for a one- or two-week trip. Provider websites show only their own plans, so this side-by-side view is one you would otherwise have to calculate yourself. A shorter bar means a lower price per GB.
Generated 30.10.2026 08:01
The tables below group the live plans by data need. Kazakhstan is a country where a few GB go a long way for maps and messaging, but a train from Almaty to Astana is an overnight ride with patchy signal between towns, so download what you want to watch before you board. Six providers sell an unlimited plan for Kazakhstan in our comparison tool as of October 2026 (eSIM4Travel, Airalo, Ubigi, Jetpac, Yesim and ByteSIM), plus Maya Mobile's global unlimited plan, and each has a different daily allowance before the speed drops, which the provider sections above spell out. If Kazakhstan is one stop on a longer trip, Turkey is the most common pairing in the reports we read; you can compare plans that cover both Kazakhstan and Turkey, and our Turkey eSIM guide covers that side.

Best eSIM for Almaty and Astana
Nomad, our overall pick, has no city-level reports from Kazakhstan yet. Only three of the 17 reports name a city at all, which is too few for a pick in either place, so the country-level advice applies in both.
| Where you are going | What the reports show | Our pick |
|---|---|---|
| Almaty | too few reports | Country pick applies |
| Astana | too few reports | Country pick applies |
Almaty has two reports, both for Maya Mobile, one that worked and one that did not; Astana has one, a Holafly miss. That is one miss on each of the two most-used travel networks, Tele2 and Beeline, with no detail on what failed, so neither tells you to avoid a provider in that city. What the research does tell you is where coverage thins: no traveler reports from Shymbulak, Charyn Canyon, the Kolsai lakes or the Almaty to Astana rail corridor yet, and Kcell's own figures show that its 4G reaches 86.01% of the population, not of the land [3], so the empty stretches between towns are where any eSIM is most likely to drop. For a ski trip to Shymbulak or a day at Charyn, a plan on two networks (eSIM4Travel, Ubigi, Roamless or Holafly) gives you one more chance of a signal than a single-network plan, though no report yet confirms that in practice.
Local SIM Cards and Operator eSIMs in Kazakhstan
A local SIM wins in Kazakhstan if you need more than about 20 GB or a Kazakh number, and a travel eSIM wins for under about 10 GB or any short stay, because of one rule: a local SIM binds your phone's IMEI to your passport in a state register, while roaming eSIMs are exempt [2]. Registration is free and done in the shop on your passport, and operators may not serve an unregistered phone. A phone registered through one operator will not take another operator's SIM until it is deregistered, according to a field report, which bites on repeat visits. The USSD codes on Kcell's page are *660# for the menu, *660*1# to register, *660*2# to check and *660*4# to deregister [2].
The tourist packs we could find are Tele2's, and only through a travel site's photograph of the airport price sheet from August 2026: ₸5,590.00 for 25 GB of 4G plus 25 GB of 5G, unlimited calls within Tele2, 240 minutes to other networks and 30 days, and a larger pack at ₸6,590.00 with 35 GB plus 35 GB and 340 minutes. We could not confirm these prices with Tele2, and two Kazakh news sites report that all operators raised tariffs by 15 to 20% from January 2026 after a VAT increase, so treat them as a guide, not a quote. We could not verify tourist packs for Kcell, activ or Beeline. Two travel sites say all three operators have kiosks side by side in the Almaty arrivals hall, with no tourist premium and Tele2 giving slightly more data per tenge; English is limited outside the tourist districts.
Operator eSIMs for visitors are a grey area. Beeline is reported to be the only major operator issuing consumer eSIMs, and Tele2 reportedly needs a passport scan for remote sign-up; we could not confirm either from the operators themselves, so do not count on an operator eSIM without visiting a shop. Beeline's own Travel eSIM, launched in August 2026, is an outbound product for its subscribers, not something a visitor can use. If you are passing through Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan as well, eSIM4Travel's Central Asia 4 plan or Maya Mobile's global plan covers the whole loop on one eSIM, which no local SIM does.
Mobile Networks in Kazakhstan
Tele2 is the network to want on a travel eSIM in Kazakhstan, and Beeline the one to accept with lower expectations. Kazakhstan has three operators: Beeline (KaR-Tel, owned by VEON), Kcell with its activ brand (majority owned by Kazakhtelecom), and Tele2 with Altel, run by Mobile Telecom-Service, which Qatar's Power International Holding bought from Kazakhtelecom in January 2025. According to Opensignal's measurements from July to December 2025, Tele2 won four of eight metrics, including consistent quality and time on 4G or 5G, Kcell had the highest download speed, and Beeline was slowest on download yet scored highest on reliability. Opensignal also ranked Kazakhstan 76th worldwide in its network excellence index for the first quarter of 2026, the best in Central Asia.
Which operator you get depends on the provider. On Tele2, as stated by the providers themselves in September 2026: eSIM4Travel and Ubigi (both with Beeline), Holafly (with Beeline) and Roamless (with Kcell), plus Airalo by its own syndicated package text. On Beeline alone: Nomad and Global YO. On Kcell: Airalo (named on its page) and Roamless. Saily, Yesim, Jetpac, GigSky, GoMoWorld and Maya Mobile named no operator on their pages when checked. Three sources consistently report that Beeline holds no 5G spectrum, though no official register was opened to confirm it; so a 5G badge on a Beeline-only plan, as Nomad's page shows, is unverified. Kcell reports 5G for 53.54% of the population from more than 1,600 sites in 23 cities and 4G for 86.01% [3], and the government's stated target, as reported, is more than 7,000 5G sites covering 80% of the population by the end of 2027 [1].
For the trip this means: in Almaty, Astana and the other cities every network works, and 5G needs Kcell or Tele2 plus a plan that lists it (Roamless lists 5G on both; Ubigi marks it unavailable). Kcell's 3G still covers 93.89% of the population [3], while Tele2 is reported to be refarming 3G to 4G in the big cities, so a 3G-only phone may lose signal on Tele2. Between towns, Kcell's own figures are population-based, and the research flags the rail corridor, Charyn, the Kolsai and Kaiyndy lakes, the approaches to Big Almaty Lake and interior Mangystau as the usual dead zones. A shared-build programme assigns rural areas to one operator with equal access for the others, which evens out village coverage. Beeline made Central Asia's first Starlink direct-to-cell call in December 2025, with messaging planned for 2026 subject to approval [4], which does not help a roaming eSIM yet. One more thing to know: the law allows the state to suspend networks in emergencies, as it did for six days in January 2022, and a travel eSIM gives no protection because it rides the same three networks.
How to Set Up an eSIM for Kazakhstan
Install at home on Wi-Fi, before you fly: with almost every provider here the plan starts on first connection in Kazakhstan, not at installation, and Kazakhstan's IMEI rule does not apply to roaming eSIMs [2]. The exceptions are Yesim, where our plan started counting at purchase, and GoMoWorld, where nothing happens until you press Start in the app.
- Check that your phone has eSIM and is unlocked. iPhones sold in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao mostly have no eSIM at all, so check your model against our list of phones with eSIM.
- Buy within the activation window: Nomad's listing gives 30 days, eSIM4Travel 90 days, Jetpac 3 months, Saily 180 days and Ubigi 6 months. Our first-eSIM guide walks through a purchase if this is your first.
- Install the eSIM. eSIM4Travel, Airalo, Maya Mobile, Ubigi, Yesim, ByteSIM, Jetpac, Nomad and Holafly send a QR code by email; GoMoWorld, Saily, Roamless, GigSky and Global YO install from their app. The steps are in our guides for adding an eSIM on iPhone and adding an eSIM on Samsung.
- Switch data roaming on for the eSIM line when you land, and set the APN where the provider asks: "globaldata" for Maya Mobile and Global YO, "mobiledata" for Ubigi, "gigsky" for GigSky. In our Roamless test the preselected APN did not work until we picked the Proximus one by hand.
- If there is no data after a minute, open the network list and select the operator by hand; the networks section above says which ones your provider uses. With Jetpac and GigSky our test needed the physical SIM switched off before data flowed. Our eSIM troubleshooting guide covers the rest.
- Keep Wi-Fi in mind for top-ups: GigSky, Ubigi and Roamless can sell you more data with zero balance, and Jetpac keeps WhatsApp and Maps free after the data runs out; every other app here dies at zero.
Calls and SMS in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan's calling code is +7, and none of the Kazakhstan plans in our comparison tool include minutes or texts as of October 2026, so a Kazakh number means a local SIM. Tele2's airport pack is the one we could find with minutes, and the local SIM section above has the reported prices and the IMEI rule that comes with it.
If you only need to make calls, not receive them on a local number, several travel eSIMs do it over data: Global YO has outgoing VoIP calls in its app, Jetpac sells in-app voice packs (our test showed the recipient a US number), Roamless offers VoIP calls and an optional second number, and Airalo's Discover+ global plan, which covers Kazakhstan, includes a US number with calls and texts. Saily sells a US number as an add-on. For everything else, WhatsApp and similar apps work over any of these plans, and Jetpac keeps WhatsApp usable even after the data allowance is gone on packs of 3 GB and up.
Free eSIM Data for Kazakhstan
Four providers give away a little data that works in Kazakhstan, enough to test the signal on arrival but not for a trip. Nomad lists a 1 GB Kazakhstan plan for 3 days marked as a trial, Roamless has a free Kazakhstan allowance of about 450 MB, GoMoWorld sells a free 1-day plan of 500 MB for Kazakhstan, and GigSky gives 100 MB to new users, all as of October 2026 and all one per account. Our free eSIM data guide lists the terms and how to claim each one. A trial is also a cheap way to find out which network a provider puts you on in Almaty before you pay for a bigger plan.

Summary: the best eSIM for Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan has 17 traveler reports so far, which is thin, and our advice says so. Based on those reports and our tests, we recommend Nomad for most trips: it worked well for 3 of 3 travelers who reported from Kazakhstan, with the caveats that it rides Beeline alone, the weakest network in Opensignal's measurements, and that our test found no way past its chat bot to a person. Maya Mobile is the option for a week or more of heavy use: its global unlimited plan worked well for 3 of 4 travelers, the one miss was in Almaty, and it sells nothing shorter than 3 days. eSIM4Travel is the cheapest in our comparison for Kazakhstan and worked for the 1 traveler who reported; its help desk was the best we tested, but there is no app and no top-up without Wi-Fi.
Every other provider has fewer than 3 reports here, and the two misses among them were Holafly in Astana and Jetpac on a global plan. If you want two networks for the mountains and the steppe, eSIM4Travel, Ubigi, Roamless and Holafly name Tele2 alongside another operator. For a Kazakh number or 20 GB and more, a local Tele2 SIM at the airport beats every travel eSIM per GB, at the cost of a passport registration that binds your phone. That is the whole picture behind our choice of the best eSIM for Kazakhstan in 2026; the live tables above carry the prices.
