Best eSIM for Bahrain in 2026: 14 Providers Ranked by Traveler Reports

Best eSIM Bahrain
Key Takeaways

Key takeaways

Based on 10 traveler reports from Bahrain and our own tests, the best-documented option is Airalo: it worked well for 4 of 6 travelers who reported from Bahrain and uses two local networks, but two of its misses were data that never connected. No other provider has 3 or more reports here yet. eSIM4Travel has no Bahrain reports so far, but it is usually the cheapest in our comparison, also uses two networks here and had the best help desk in our test; it has no app.

The best eSIM for Bahrain is the one that is live the moment you land or cross the causeway, because a local SIM cannot be. Bahrain is small and flat, and the regulator's 2023 audit put 4G population coverage at 100% on all three networks [2]. So the choice comes down to which network a provider uses, its price and whether its help desk answers. Traveler data is thin: only 10 public reviews mention Bahrain, and only one provider has 3 or more.

Local SIMs come with hurdles. Operators register visitors on a passport [11] and stc matches your face against the scanned document in its app [8]. Batelco and stc eSIMs can be installed abroad but only activate inside Bahrain [5] [8]. Batelco shut its 2G network on 30 Nov 2021 [6], and industry sunset lists report that Zain and stc have switched off 3G, so plan on a 4G or 5G phone.

2026 is not a normal year. The US State Department advisory covers the security situation since hostilities began on 28 Feb 2026 [3], and AGBI reported in July 2026 that the airport was shut for much of the war. Most visitors normally arrive by road over the King Fahd Causeway from Saudi Arabia, which makes plans that also cover Saudi Arabia worth a look. The Bahrain Grand Prix, usually the busiest weekend for the networks, was moved to Malaysia for 2026, according to Gulf News. Check flights and the advisory before you rely on buying anything at the airport.

Best eSIM Providers for Bahrain

eSIM plans in Bahrain at a glance

How well each provider's eSIM works in Bahrain

The Vefru score is our overall rating of the provider. The percentage shows how many reviewers said their eSIM worked well in Bahrain. Since unhappy customers review more often, it is best used to compare providers with each other.

How we got these numbers: we read 10 public customer reviews that mention Bahrain or a place in it, published between October 2024 and August 2026, and counted a report as "worked" when the reviewer said the eSIM connected, even with small hiccups. We treat 20 or more reports as strong evidence, 3 to 19 as limited, and fewer than 3 as too few to judge. A count like 4 of 6 means the eSIM worked well for 4 of the 6 travelers who reported from here; each provider section says what went wrong for the rest. The Vefru test score is a separate number: our own hands-on test of the provider, run outside Bahrain, so it says how the provider behaves, not how the network performs here. Local operator prices in the text were checked on 25 September 2026; provider ratings, the plan tables and the price-per-GB chart are live and update on their own.

We rank on traveler reports from the country first, price second and our hands-on test third. Only Airalo has 3 or more reports from Bahrain, so it is the one provider we can judge on its record here. eSIM4Travel joins it because its Bahrain plans were the cheapest in our comparison tool at 3, 5 and 10 GB and its help desk was the best in our test, even with no reports from Bahrain yet.

Airalo eSIM in our hands

Airalo testing outdoor Airalo testing speed 1 Airalo testing speed 2 Airalo testing support

Airalo is the only provider with enough traveler reports to judge in Bahrain, and its record is mixed. It worked well for 4 of 6 travelers who reported from Bahrain (67%), a limited sample, all from June to August 2026. The positive reports are short: one traveler found it good in Bahrain, and their only complaint was coverage later in London. "It was good in Bahrain, but the coverage was poor in London," they wrote on 25 Jun 2026.

The misses are about connecting, not coverage gaps. One traveler in July 2026 said the app showed the eSIM as connected in Jordan and Bahrain, but data never came through. Another had to delete the eSIM and buy a second plan because data did not work the first time. A third found activation hard on two phones. Even the reports counted as working carry complaints: one could not get on Batelco and found stc slow, and another saw 700 MB of a 1 GB plan gone within minutes of activation.

Airalo's Bahrain eSIM, sold as "Saar Mobile", now names two networks: stc as the main one and Batelco on its product pages, as of September 2026 [12]. Third-party reviews from 2024 and early 2025 described it as stc only, so Batelco looks like a recent addition. Country plans run from 1 GB for 3 days to 20 GB for 30 days, plus unlimited plans from 3 to 30 days that slow after 3 GB a day. There is also a 13-country Middle East and North Africa plan that includes Saudi Arabia, and global Discover plans. The Bahrain plan needs no ID check and can be topped up [12]. In our Airalo review purchase and installation were among the easiest we tested and data worked right away, but across all countries it has the weakest traveler-report record of the 14 providers, and its prices sit around the market average, never the cheapest. We recommend Airalo for travelers who want the best-documented option and an easy app, with the caveat that a third of its Bahrain reports describe a connection that failed.

eSIM4Travel eSIM in our hands

eSIM4Travel testing outdoor eSIM4Travel testing speed 1 eSIM4Travel testing speed 2 eSIM4Travel testing support

eSIM4Travel is the low-price pick for Bahrain, with the best help desk we have tested. There are no traveler reports from Bahrain yet, so its record here is unknown. Our case rests on price and on our hands-on test, which we ran outside Bahrain. In our comparison tool its Bahrain plans sat below every other provider at 3, 5 and 10 GB, and across all countries it is usually the cheapest in our comparison.

It is one of the few providers that names two Bahraini networks: its plans are labelled for Zain and stc [13]. That matters if one network is weak where you are, because our help desk contact solved our problem and suggested switching networks. Country plans run from 1 GB for one day to 50 GB for 30 days, with unlimited plans from 3 to 20 days that slow after 3 GB a day. Its 1-day plans slow down sharply once used up, which suits a short causeway visit only if you stay light [13]. A 9-country Middle East plan covers Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman as well. Hotspot use and top-ups are allowed, and you have 90 days to activate [13].

In our eSIM4Travel review, one click took us from the bot to a person, the eSIM installed from a QR code and worked right away, and we bought it on the website without an app. The downsides: no app, no Google Pay, and no way to buy more data without Wi-Fi once your plan runs out. Based on our tests, we recommend eSIM4Travel for travelers who want the lowest price and a help desk that answers, and who can top up on hotel Wi-Fi.

Maya Mobile is a good fit for a week or more across several Gulf countries, but one report is too few to judge it in Bahrain. It worked for the 1 of 1 traveler who reported from Bahrain (100%), who wrote in May 2025 that the network was available throughout their stay. There were no misses to report.

Maya sells only global unlimited plans for 3, 7, 14 and 30 days, with full speed for 5 GB a day and slower data after that, hotspot use allowed. A cruise version adds coverage at sea. Its page says it uses the strongest local network but did not name one when checked in September 2026. In our Maya Mobile review it was the cheapest global unlimited plan by far and installed in about two minutes, but you set the APN yourself and its WhatsApp help desk took a form and a wait before a person replied. It sells nothing shorter than 3 days, so a causeway day trip is cheaper elsewhere. See Maya Mobile's plans.

ByteSIM worked for the 1 of 1 traveler who reported from Bahrain (100%), too few to judge. "The esim in Bahrain work very well," that traveler wrote on 26 Oct 2024, adding that ByteSIM refunded a Qatar eSIM they no longer needed.

Its Bahrain catalog is large and country-only: fixed plans from 500 MB, 1 GB-a-day plans, and unlimited plans from 1 to 30 days whose slowdown limit is not stated. Longer validity costs more, so it looks best for short trips. We found no Bahrain page naming its network. In our ByteSIM review checkout asked for a phone number and full postal address, the app had install errors, there are no top-ups and its WhatsApp help desk did not reply within 15 minutes. It suits experienced users who want a day plan. See ByteSIM's plans.

Yesim worked for 1 of 2 travelers who reported from Bahrain (50%), too few to judge, and both reports describe trouble connecting. A traveler passing through Dubai and Bahrain in November 2025 got no connection in either: "I had no connections while in Dubai or Bahrain," they wrote on 14 Nov 2025. The report counted as working, from August 2025, says the eSIM connected in Bahrain and the UAE only after many attempts.

Yesim sells Bahrain unlimited plans by the day, from 1 to 30 days, that slow after an unstated daily amount, plus fixed plans from 1 GB to 30 GB for 30 days, a Middle East plan covering Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and global packages. Its page did not name a network when checked in September 2026. Ubigi is the only provider here that names all three Bahraini networks, Batelco, stc and Zain [16], but it has no traveler reports from Bahrain yet. If one network is weak where you are, the eSIM can use another, which no single-network plan can do.

Bahrain plans include 1 GB for 7 days, 3 GB for 15 days, 10 GB for 7 or 30 days, 25 GB for 30 days and unlimited for 7 or 15 days, which slows after 30 GB of full-speed data [16]. Middle East and world plans cover Bahrain too. In our Ubigi review the network side was strong and you can buy more data at zero balance, but the site and app were clumsy and our help desk ticket went unanswered for 24 hours. Nomad has no traveler reports from Bahrain yet. Its Bahrain eSIM runs on stc [15], the network that won Opensignal's download speed and reliability awards in November 2025, but its plans are listed at 4G speed.

Country plans are 1 GB for 7 days and 3, 5, 10 or 20 GB for 30 days, with no unlimited plan for Bahrain. A Gulf Cooperation Council plan covers Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar, and a MENA plan adds Egypt, Jordan and more, which suits a causeway or Gulf trip. In our Roamless review the preselected APN did not work until we picked another network by hand, but a person on its help desk fixed it, and across all countries it has one of the best traveler-report records. It is cheap for 1 GB and dear for 10 GB and more. See Roamless's Bahrain plans.

Holafly is an Irish eSIM provider built around unlimited data, with trip eSIMs for 200+ destinations. Travelers report it working more often than any other provider we track. Its weak points are speed and price: our test ran at about 30 Mbps on 5G, and its unlimited plans cost more than most.

Holafly eSIM in our hands

Holafly testing outdoor Holafly testing support Holafly testing support 2 Holafly testing speed

Holafly has no traveler reports from Bahrain yet, and in our test its speed was capped from the start. That is enough for maps, messaging, browsing and streaming, but slow for large downloads, uploads, cloud backups and laptop work. Holafly says its Bahrain eSIM runs on stc, sells only unlimited plans, limits hotspot use to 1 GB a day, and cannot be reinstalled once deleted [14]. There are no top-ups; you buy a new eSIM instead.

A third-party review from January 2025 said Holafly used Zain in Bahrain, so it has switched partners since. Its Bahrain plans were not in our comparison tool when we exported it, so there is no plan table here. Across all countries it has the best traveler-report record of the 14 providers, but in our Holafly review it was also the most expensive unlimited option in about half of our comparisons. Unused plans can be refunded within 6 months [14]. See Holafly's Bahrain plans.

Jetpac has no traveler reports from Bahrain, and we found no Jetpac plan for Bahrain in our comparison tool and no Bahrain country page. That rules it out here until it lists one.

Saily eSIM in our hands

Saily testing outdoor Saily testing speed 1 Saily testing speed 2 Saily testing support

Saily has the easiest app and one of the best help desks we have tested, but no traveler reports from Bahrain yet and prices among the highest we compare. Its page refers to Bahrain's best networks but did not name one when checked in September 2026.

Bahrain plans are 1 GB for 7 days and 3, 5, 10 or 20 GB for 30 days, with no unlimited plan; a Middle East and North Africa plan covers Saudi Arabia and the UAE in small sizes. In our Saily review installation in the app was the smoothest we tested and a person answered quickly, and the plan starts on first connection. It suits a first eSIM, if price matters less. See Saily's Bahrain plans.

GigSky is the option for a Gulf cruise that calls at Bahrain, but it has no traveler reports from Bahrain yet and is the most expensive provider in our price comparison overall. In our comparison tool its Bahrain plans were the dearest at 5 and 10 GB.

Bahrain plans are 1 GB for 7 days, 3 GB for 15 days, 5 and 10 GB for 30 days, and a 1-day unlimited pass. Its Cruise and Middle East plans cover Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE on land and listed cruise ships. We could not confirm which network it uses. In our GigSky review a person answered right away, and its app stayed online after the data ran out, so you can buy more without Wi-Fi. See GigSky's Bahrain plans.

Best eSIM Plans for Bahrain

Price per GB in Bahrain by eSIM Provider

How much does each provider charge per GB in Bahrain? The chart below compares plans of 1 to 10 GB that last 6 to 14 days, the usual range for a one- or two-week trip. Provider websites show only their own plans, so this side-by-side view is one you would otherwise have to work out yourself. A shorter bar means a lower price per GB.

Generated 29.10.2026 08:14

Three plan types fit how people visit Bahrain. For a day trip over the causeway, eSIM4Travel, ByteSIM and Yesim sell 1-day Bahrain plans and GigSky a 1-day unlimited pass. For Saudi Arabia and Bahrain on one trip, regional plans from eSIM4Travel, Global YO, Nomad, Airalo, Roamless, Yesim and GigSky cover both. For a week or longer, unlimited plans come from Airalo, eSIM4Travel, ByteSIM, Yesim, Ubigi and Maya Mobile, each with its own daily slowdown rule. To see plans for a trip that also takes in the UAE, use our Bahrain and UAE comparison.

Best eSIM for Manama, the Causeway and Transit Stops

No traveler report names a place in Bahrain more precise than the country, so there are no city picks yet, and Airalo, the country pick, has no city-level reports.

Where you are goingWhat the reports showOur pick
Bahrain, no place namedAiralo 4/6, Maya Mobile 1/1, ByteSIM 1/1, Yesim 1/2Airalo (the only provider with 3 or more reports)
Manamano reports yetCountry pick applies
King Fahd Causeway from Saudi Arabiano reports yetCountry pick applies; a plan that also covers Saudi Arabia helps
Bahrain International Airportno reports yetCountry pick applies

Where you stay matters less here than in most countries. The regulator's 2023 audit found 4G reaching 100% of the population on all three networks [2], and no official source names dead zones. What the reviews do show is trouble on multi-country trips: one Yesim user transiting through Dubai and Bahrain had no connection in either, and one Airalo user saw the same in Jordan and Bahrain. If you combine Bahrain with Saudi Arabia, a regional plan saves a second eSIM, and if your trip goes on to the UAE, our UAE eSIM guide has the reports from there.

Local SIM Cards and Operator eSIMs in Bahrain

A local SIM beats a travel eSIM only for a heavy-use day trip or when you need a Bahraini number. For anything from 3 days with moderate use, a travel eSIM is cheaper in our comparison, needs no face scan or shop visit, and works the moment you arrive. Batelco and stc both sell visitor passes and 30-day prepaid plans, with these prices as of September 2026 (10% VAT included) [4] [9]:

  • 12-hour visitor pass: BD 3.000, unlimited data, unlimited calls on the same network and 50 minutes to other Gulf countries.
  • 1-day visitor pass: BD 4.000, the same allowances.
  • 30 days: BD 7.500 for 10 GB and 200 local minutes, BD 9.500 for 20 GB, BD 11.000 for 30 GB.

The dinar is pegged to the US dollar, and BD 1 is widely reported as about $2.66. Batelco's visitor passes slow down after a fair-use threshold, and its prepaid lines are 4G only unless you add 5G for BD 5.000 a month [4]. Both operators block hotspot use on prepaid by default and charge BD 2 to unlock it; at stc that add-on gives 1 GB [4] [9]. stc stops your data entirely, rather than slowing it, when the allowance runs out, and postpaid lines need Bahraini residency [9]. Zain sells 5G as a separate paid pass and charges a small recharge fee that it waives in its app [10]; its own plan list could not be read when the research was done, so we do not quote its prices.

Registration is strict. Visitors from outside the Gulf register on a passport [11]. stc's eSIM is free but is issued only in the mystc BH app, which checks your face against the scanned document, rejects rooted phones and does not allow a VPN during sign-up [8]. Batelco's eSIM page also rules out a VPN during the process [5]. Zain Group's 2024 sustainability report says facial recognition has been required for non-residents since August 2024. Both Batelco and stc eSIMs activate only inside Bahrain [5] [8]. All three operators have been reported to have counters past baggage claim at the airport, but with the airport's 2026 disruption, do not count on them.

Mobile Networks in Bahrain

Bahrain has three networks, and all three reach the whole population on 4G, so the provider's network matters less for coverage than for speed and consistency. Batelco is the largest with 38.6% of mobile subscriptions in the first quarter of 2026, followed by stc with 32.3% and Zain with 29.2% [1]. The regulator's 2023 audit put 5G population coverage at 100% for two networks and 97% for the third, with Zain rated a step below the others on 5G coverage and fast 4G downloads [2].

Independent tests split the honours. In Opensignal's November 2025 report, stc won download speed, 5G download speed and reliability, and shared 5G coverage with Batelco. Zain won the most awards overall, including consistent quality, games, voice apps and uploads. In short, stc gives the highest speeds and Zain the steadiest connection. Batelco is the only operator with a public interactive coverage map, with 4G and 5G layers [7].

Which network your eSIM uses, by what each provider states:

  • stc only: Holafly [14] and Nomad [15].
  • stc and Batelco: Airalo [12].
  • stc and Zain: eSIM4Travel [13].
  • All three: Ubigi [16].
  • Listed as Zain in our comparison tool: Roamless.
  • Not named or not confirmed: Saily, Yesim, Maya Mobile, GoMoWorld, Global YO, GigSky, ByteSIM and Jetpac.

Partners have moved: third-party reviews from 2024 and 2025 had Holafly on Zain and Airalo on stc alone. A plan with more than one network lets you switch if one is slow. Older phones are the other risk. Batelco turned off 2G on 30 Nov 2021 [6], and industry sunset lists report Zain's 3G off in late 2022 and stc's on 31 Oct 2023. We could not confirm whether Batelco still runs 3G, so a phone needs 4G, and 5G helps only where your plan includes it (see whether 5G is worth it).

How to Set Up an eSIM for Bahrain

Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi and switch it on when you arrive. Most plans start on first connection, so installing early costs nothing. These are the steps:

  1. Check that your phone is unlocked and on the list of eSIM phones, and that it runs 4G or 5G.
  2. Buy and install before you travel. eSIM4Travel gives you 90 days to activate [13], and Saily starts a plan by itself after 180 days. Two exceptions: our Yesim plan started at purchase, and GoMoWorld does nothing until you press Start in its app.
  3. Turn on data roaming for the eSIM line. Maya Mobile and Global YO need the APN "globaldata" set by hand.
  4. On arrival, or once over the causeway, pick the eSIM for mobile data and turn off data roaming on your home SIM.
  5. If data does not connect, restart the phone, then pick a network by hand. On a multi-network eSIM, try the other network. Our troubleshooting guide covers the rest.

Step-by-screen guides: adding an eSIM on iPhone and adding an eSIM on Samsung.

Calls and SMS in Bahrain

No travel eSIM in our comparison tool sells a Bahraini number or local minutes, so calls go over apps or a local SIM. Bahrain's calling code is +973. A Batelco or stc prepaid line includes local minutes and international minutes on the 30-day plans [4] [9]; the local SIM section above lists them.

Some providers add calling outside the plan. Roamless has in-app calls and an optional second number from the US, Canada, the UK or Australia. Global YO allows outgoing calls through its app. Airalo's Discover+ global plans, which cover Bahrain, include a US number, and Saily sells a US number add-on. Jetpac sells in-app voice packs but lists no Bahrain plan. For WhatsApp and similar calls, Opensignal's November 2025 report rated Zain best for voice apps.

Free eSIM Data for Bahrain

Roamless is the one provider in our comparison tool with a free Bahrain eSIM and data for new users: a 30-day trial that starts when the eSIM is activated, with no throttling and tethering allowed. It is enough to test the eSIM or cover your first hours. GigSky also has a free 100 MB trial, and its Middle East plans include Bahrain. More trials are listed in our free eSIM data guide.

Frequently Asked Questions About eSIMs in Bahrain

Which eSIM works best in Bahrain?
Airalo has the most evidence: it worked well for 4 of 6 travelers who reported from Bahrain. Its misses were data that never connected, not dead zones. eSIM4Travel has no Bahrain reports yet, but its Bahrain plans were the cheapest in our comparison tool and its help desk was the best in our test. Compare both with (eSIM Comparison).
What is the cheapest eSIM for Bahrain?
eSIM4Travel had the cheapest Bahrain plans at 3, 5 and 10 GB in our comparison tool, with Global YO next at 5 and 10 GB. GigSky was the dearest at 5 and 10 GB. For a single day, 1-day plans from eSIM4Travel, ByteSIM and Yesim cost less than a week-long plan. Current prices are in (eSIM Comparison).
How much data do I need for Bahrain?
It depends on how you use your phone, not on Bahrain. Maps, messaging and browsing use little, while video calls and streaming use the most. Weekend visitors from Saudi Arabia can often get by with a 1-day plan, while a week of heavy use is where unlimited plans start to pay. For a number based on your habits, use (Travel Data Calculator).
Can tourists buy a Bahrain SIM card?
Yes, Batelco, stc and Zain sell prepaid SIMs and eSIMs to visitors, but registration needs a passport and a face scan. Local eSIMs also activate only once you are in Bahrain, so a travel eSIM is the only way to have data on arrival. The local SIM section above lists the current visitor passes and prices.
Is there one eSIM for Saudi Arabia and Bahrain?
Yes, several regional plans cover both, which suits a trip over the King Fahd Causeway. eSIM4Travel, Global YO, Nomad, Airalo, Roamless, Yesim and GigSky all sell Middle East or Gulf plans that include Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Most also cover the UAE and Qatar. Our comparison tool shows these plans next to the Bahrain-only ones (eSIM Comparison).
Will an old 3G phone work in Bahrain?
Probably not. Batelco shut its 2G network in 2021, and industry lists report that Zain and stc have switched off 3G. We could not confirm whether Batelco still runs 3G, so plan on a phone with 4G or 5G that takes an eSIM. You can check yours with (Phones with eSIM support | Updated for 2026).

Summary: the best eSIM for Bahrain

Only 10 traveler reports mention Bahrain, so every pick here comes with a caveat. Airalo is the only provider with enough reports to judge: it worked well for 4 of 6 travelers and uses stc and Batelco, but its misses were data that never connected. eSIM4Travel has no Bahrain reports yet, but it had the cheapest Bahrain plans in our comparison tool, uses stc and Zain, and had the best help desk in our test; its weakness is the lack of an app.

For a day over the causeway, a 1-day plan or a local visitor pass is the cheapest route, and for Saudi Arabia and Bahrain together, a regional plan saves a second eSIM. Based on the reports and our tests, the best eSIM for Bahrain in 2026 is Airalo for the most evidence and eSIM4Travel for the lowest price with a help desk that answers.
