How we got these numbers: we read 762 public customer reviews that mention Türkiye or a place in it, published between February 2024 and August 2026, and counted a report as "worked" when the reviewer said the eSIM connected, even with small hiccups. We treat 20 or more reports as strong evidence, 3 to 19 as limited, and fewer than 3 as too few to judge. A count like 23 of 25 means the eSIM worked well for 23 of the 25 travelers who reported from here; each provider section says what went wrong for the rest. Holafly is the safest choice for anyone who wants to stop thinking about data in Türkiye, because it had the best record of the providers compared here. It worked well for 84 of 88 travelers who reported from Türkiye (95%), strong evidence. The successes cover Istanbul, Antalya, Alanya, Gaziantep, Kusadasi, a forest stay, a motorbike trip through Türkiye into Georgia, eastern Türkiye and rural roads, with several reports of 5G for most of the trip and hotspot shared with two other phones.

The four misses were not dead zones. Two travelers (Jun 2026) found the eSIM worked for one day in Istanbul and then stopped, one after a flawless week in Italy; one got it back after emails with the help desk, the other cancelled. One traveler (Jul 2026) could not get data on two phones for a Greece and Türkiye trip after the eSIMs altered his number format, and one (May 2026) found it too slow for scrolling. Two more reviews, counted as working, say the speed was well below a local 5G line and varied by time of day. One traveler (Jul 2026) was told a Türkiye eSIM would not work in Northern Cyprus, then refunded, then found it did; Holafly's page does not say either way [8].

Holafly sells unlimited data only, in 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 30-day plans for Türkiye in our comparison tool, and names both Turkcell and TT Mobil (Türk Telekom) as its networks, as of August 2026 [8]. The small print matters: the hotspot is capped at 1 GB a day, the operator's fair-use rule may slow you for up to a day, there are no top-ups (you buy a new eSIM), and a deleted eSIM cannot be reinstalled [8]. The "Always On" 1 GB after the plan ends saved one traveler (Jul 2026) who extended his stay and bought a second eSIM from inside Türkiye on that buffer. In our hands-on test of Holafly the install was one tap, but speeds looked capped from the first minute, and on price it is among the most expensive unlimited offers in our comparison. "Good coverage, good connection and good speed even in rural areas," wrote one traveler on 24 May 2026. Plans at Holafly.

Yesim is the pick for a short stay where you want unlimited data for exactly the days you are there, because it had the second-best record here and sells unlimited in one-day steps. It worked well for 69 of 74 travelers who reported from Türkiye (93%), strong evidence. Reports by place are all positive: Istanbul 6 of 6, Antalya 3 of 3, Belek, Kemer, Alanya and the Lycian Way all worked. The one place report that failed was at Antalya Airport.

We could not read the texts of the five country-level misses in detail, so we cannot say what went wrong for those travelers. Two findings from our own test weigh on the pick: the plan we bought started counting at purchase, not at first use (Yesim offers an "activate later" option, so check it), and replies from the help desk took 15 to 60 minutes each, among the slowest we tested. Yesim's own page warns that access to its app may be limited inside Türkiye, so set it up at home [9].

In our comparison tool Yesim has a Türkiye plan family with fixed data from 500 MB to 50 GB and unlimited for any length from 1 to 30 days, plus a separate Northern Cyprus plan with the same sizes; its page lists Famagusta and Kyrenia among covered cities [9]. It did not name a Turkish network on its page when we checked in August 2026 [9]; the unlimited plans are throttled under a partner rule with no published limit. On price, Yesim's unlimited is at the market average, but its fixed plans are among the two most expensive in Türkiye. Maya Mobile is the pick for Istanbul and for trips that go beyond the resorts, because it has by far the largest report base here and the best Istanbul record. It worked well for 178 of 195 travelers who reported from Türkiye (91%), strong evidence. In Istanbul it worked for 18 of 22, in Antalya for 9 of 10, and single reports describe signal in Marmaris, Alanya, Pamukkale, the Taurus Mountains, on boat trips off the coast and even at 4,800 m on the mountain border with Iran.

The 17 misses fall into three groups. Slow or unstable data: a 40 GB plan that crawled for most of the day (Dec 2024), 3G fallback in every city (Apr 2025), drops around Belek that needed airplane mode to reconnect (May 2024), and LTE-only with gaps downtown in Istanbul (May 2024). Activation: eSIMs that never came online (Nov 2025, Jul 2024), one of two or three family eSIMs dead while the others worked (Aug 2025, Aug 2024). Wrong plan: a Europe+ plan that does not include Türkiye (Jul 2024). One traveler also found a 15-day eSIM had auto-renewed; Maya's page says Travel Mode renews while it is on, so switch it off when you leave [19].

Maya sells only unlimited plans in our comparison tool, as global plans of 3, 7, 14 and 30 days with 5 GB a day at full speed and a slower rate after that; a cruise variant adds ship coverage. It did not name a Turkish network on its page when we checked in August 2026 [19]. In our Maya Mobile test the daily cap and reset behaved as the fairest unlimited rule we tested, the install took one click plus an APN entry ("globaldata"), and the help desk took about nine minutes to reach a human. On price its global unlimited is the cheapest of its kind in our comparison, though it sells nothing small for a two-day stop. "We got very good network coverage even on the Taurus mountain or Pamukkele," wrote one traveler on 6 May 2025. Plans at Maya Mobile.

Ubigi is the pick for a trip that crosses into Northern Cyprus, and a strong choice for Istanbul, because it is the only provider compared here whose Türkiye plan page says it covers Northern Cyprus and names both Turkcell and Türk Telekom [10]. It worked well for 24 of 26 travelers who reported from Türkiye (92%), strong evidence, with Istanbul 4 of 4, Belek on stable 5G, Kusadasi and Antalya in the record.

The two misses were a traveler whose regional plan worked in Greece and then would not connect in Türkiye (May 2026), and one who could not connect at all on a plan that included Türkiye (Jun 2026). Three more reviews, counted as working, report a poor connection in Istanbul (Jul 2026), fluctuating signal in Antalya (Jul 2026) and a spotty signal in Kusadasi that needed restarts (May 2026). The pattern is border and multi-country hand-over trouble, not missing coverage.

Ubigi's Türkiye plans in our comparison tool run from 1 GB to 50 GB (no 5 GB or 20 GB step) plus unlimited for 1, 8, 15 and 30 days, and its Middle East and World plans also cover Türkiye. Its page says the app and website are inaccessible from inside Türkiye and that the plan cannot be used by Turkish residents [10]. In our Ubigi review the network and speed were strong and it could buy more data at zero balance, but the site and app were clumsy and our help-desk ticket had no answer after 24 hours, which is why we rank it below Maya Mobile. On price it is around the market average in Türkiye, with the cheapest 30-day unlimited median in our comparison. "Very good network everywhere in istanbul," wrote one traveler on 15 Jul 2026. ByteSIM is the pick for a cheap weekend or one-week trip, because it is among the three cheapest providers in Türkiye in our price comparison and its record here is strong. It worked well for 21 of 23 travelers who reported from Türkiye (91%). The successes share one trait: many needed the WhatsApp help desk to finish the install (a missing email, a QR code that failed, a UK phone blocked by the Turkish networks) and all got going within minutes, including a group of 15 and a traveler whose Dutch-bought SIM cards had failed.

The two misses were both activation failures in Istanbul: two eSIMs on iPhones that never worked (Apr 2024) and one that would not activate, with a help-desk reply the traveler called rude, before a refund that took weeks (Aug 2024). One review (Mar 2025) is a useful warning: a UK handset used in Türkiye the year before was barred from Turkish networks on the next visit, which fits the 120-day IMEI rule described in the local SIM section.

ByteSIM has the widest Türkiye catalogue in our comparison tool: fixed plans from 500 MB to 100 GB at validities from 1 to 30 days, daily plans of 500 MB or 1 GB a day, and unlimited from 1 to 30 days. Its page names Türk Telekom (Avea) as the network and advertises 5G [11]. In our ByteSIM test the checkout demanded a postal address, the app's auto-activation failed and manual install worked, and our WhatsApp message went unanswered for 15 minutes; the Türkiye reviews say the opposite about reply times, so count it as a help desk that works when you chase it. There are no top-ups, so size the plan right. "So far the connection in Turkey has been very good, availability is everywhere," wrote one traveler on 24 Sep 2024. Plans at ByteSIM.

Global YO is the budget option for a big fixed data bundle, not a first pick, because its record is a notch below the Best group and its unlimited plans are the slowest-capped here. It worked well for 36 of 41 travelers who reported from Türkiye (88%), strong evidence, with fast data in small towns and Istanbul and a working connection at Istanbul Airport. The five misses: an eSIM that would not load on landing (May 2024), one that stopped mid-trip (Aug 2024), one dead and one at a fraction of a rival's coverage (May 2024), internet too slow for maps or WhatsApp (Sep 2025), and an unlimited plan that slowed after 1 GB a day (Aug 2024, with a second traveler in Jul 2024 reporting the same cap).

Its Türkiye plans in our comparison tool run from 1 GB to 100 GB, plus "Day Plans" with 1 GB a day at full speed. Its page lists Avea (Türk Telekom) as the network and 4G/LTE only, no 5G, as of September 2026 [12]; one review (Nov 2024) confirms LTE-only in large resort towns. In our Global YO review purchase was app-only and the first help-desk reply took ten minutes with a template, so this suits price-driven travelers who install at home. Airalo is not a top pick for Türkiye, because its record here is below the Best group and its app does not load on Turkish networks. It worked well for 46 of 55 travelers who reported from Türkiye (84%), strong evidence, including a one-click activation at Istanbul Airport and no problems in Antalya. The nine misses cluster in summer 2026: a connection that showed signal but passed no data, one day of service in Istanbul then nothing, a TLS error on activation, 3G only with no messages, "the app was down for our entire time in Turkey", no service in a high-rise Istanbul hotel, and one traveler told by local shops that Airalo is banned. Three reviews also warn that you cannot top up without Wi-Fi or a VPN.

Airalo's Türkiye plan family ("Merhaba") in our comparison tool runs from 1 GB to 50 GB plus unlimited at 3 GB a day, on Türk Telekom (Avea); its page says Northern Cyprus is not covered and that eSIMs can no longer be downloaded on arrival [13]. Its Discover+ global plans add a US number. In our Airalo review purchase and install were the easiest of the big names, which is why it still suits beginners who set up at home and stay on the coast. GoMoWorld is a good-value choice for heavy data in Türkiye if you remember one thing: the plan does nothing until you press Start in the app. It worked well for 22 of 27 travelers who reported from Türkiye (81%), strong evidence, with Istanbul and Cappadocia, 5G in resort areas and whole families covered. Most of the five misses were plans never started or never activated (Feb 2026, Jul 2026, Apr 2026), an install stuck at the third step (Feb 2025), a second 20 GB plan that stayed "upcoming" (Sep 2025), and weak signal in some areas (Jul 2026). One traveler (Jul 2024) fixed a no-data start by manually selecting the local Vodafone network.

Its four Türkiye plans in our comparison tool are 2.5 GB for 7 days and 12, 25 or 38 GB for 30 days, no unlimited; the page says Northern Cyprus is covered and the plan only starts when you activate it [14]. It did not name a Turkish network on its page when we checked in August 2026 [14]. In our GoMoWorld test it was the fastest and unthrottled, but the eSIM is app-only (no QR, one account per device) and human help is office hours only. Roamless suits light users who hop between Türkiye, the Greek islands and other countries on one eSIM, but it is not a top pick because its report base is small and the misses are outright no-connection cases. It worked well for 16 of 20 travelers who reported from Türkiye (80%), limited evidence, with Istanbul 2 of 2, a cruise from Istanbul to Venice and sailing on the Aegean switching between Greek and Turkish operators. The four misses: no connection at all in Türkiye (Mar 2026 and Oct 2025), a cut-out mid-trip that the company tied to the account balance (Aug 2025), and one traveler for whom it worked everywhere except Türkiye (Sep 2025).

In our comparison tool Roamless sells Türkiye plans from 700 MB to 200 GB for 30 days, a no-expiry pay-as-you-go option and a free trial plan, all on Turkcell with no throttling and unlimited hotspot stated on its page [15]. That Turkcell commitment is why one traveler (Oct 2025) chose it for Türkiye. In our Roamless review the preset APN did not work until we picked "Proximus Internet", and purchase had payment glitches, so it is for people happy to fiddle. Nomad is not a top pick for Türkiye, because more than a quarter of its many reports failed, more than any other provider here. It worked well for 117 of 161 travelers who reported from Türkiye (73%), strong evidence; the successes include Istanbul, Antalya, Cappadocia, the Black Sea coast, boat trips and 5G in the city, almost always from people who installed at home. The 44 misses repeat a few stories: no reception on landing at Istanbul Airport or in Bodrum (Jun 2026), service that stopped after a few days in Bursa, Antalya or Konya (Jun 2026), slow data in Ankara and around Galataport (May and Aug 2026), Europe, Balkans or Global plans that do not include Türkiye (May to Jul 2026), manual APN entry, no way to top up from inside Türkiye, and a help desk that answered with templates.

Nomad's Türkiye plans in our comparison tool run from 1 GB to 50 GB plus unlimited at 2 GB a day, on Avea (Türk Telekom) [16]; one traveler (Aug 2026) said the Türk Telekom signal was the weak link. Its page gives a 60-day activation window after which the plan auto-starts [16], while our comparison tool lists 30 days, so install close to the trip. In our Nomad review the app was good but the bot had no route to a human, which matches the complaints above. On price it is around the market average in Türkiye. Plans at Nomad.

Jetpac had a clean sheet in Türkiye but too few reports to rank it above the Best group. It worked well for 16 of 16 travelers who reported from Türkiye (100%), limited evidence, including remote parts of the country on a bicycle trip and 4G or 5G in most places. The pattern in the successes is activation help: four reviews say they only got the Türkiye pack running after a help-desk agent walked them through it over WhatsApp, one of them during the July 2025 block.

Its Türkiye plans in our comparison tool run from 2 GB to 50 GB plus unlimited from 1 to 30 days at 3 GB a day, and almost all of them are flagged 4G only; its Middle East and Global plans also cover Türkiye. A third-party audit reports Türk Telekom as its network; Jetpac's own page did not show one. In our Jetpac review the extras stood out (free WhatsApp, Maps and Uber after data runs out, in-app voice packs, free lounge on a delayed flight) while the site and app were rough. eSIM4Travel is the cheapest provider in Türkiye in our comparison and the highest Vefru test score here, but only eight travelers have reported, so it stays outside the Best group. It worked well for 7 of 8 travelers who reported from Türkiye (88%), limited evidence: 5G on a Türkiye and Kazakhstan trip, a signal that never dropped in two weeks, Istanbul's European side covered, and a second 10 GB pack that started on the existing eSIM without reinstalling. The one miss (Aug 2024) was 3G and pages that took minutes to load in Istanbul on a 1 GB-a-day daily plan.

In our comparison tool it sells two Türkiye lines, a multi-network plan and a Turkcell-only plan, from 100 MB to 50 GB plus unlimited at 3 GB a day, and regional plans (Best Europe, Middle East, South Caucasus) that include Türkiye; its site lists Turkcell for the Turkcell line [17]. There is no app, which also means no app for Türkiye to block, but with zero data you cannot reach the site without Wi-Fi. Saily is not a top pick for Türkiye despite the most polished app and help desk in our test, because its record here is weak and its page itself warns the app may be limited inside the country [18]. It worked well for 13 of 17 travelers who reported from Türkiye (76%), limited evidence; one traveler used a Türkiye eSIM on a road trip into Northern Cyprus, another got going in İzmir after an agent took over from the bot. The four misses: nothing at all after landing in Bodrum (Aug 2026), an unlimited plan too slow for email or video calls for 15 days (Jul 2026), connection trouble in Istanbul with a help desk that asked for the same screenshots 15 times (Jul 2026), and data that barely loaded a page (Jun 2026). One review counted as working describes the connection freezing across Istanbul, İzmir, Çeşme, Fethiye and Antalya until data was toggled off and on.

Saily's Türkiye plans in our comparison tool are 1 GB for 7 days, 3 to 20 GB for 30 days and unlimited for 15 days at 5 GB a day; its Europe, Middle East and Global plans also cover Türkiye. It did not name a Turkish network on its page when we checked in August 2026, which gives a 180-day activation window and no hotspot limits [18]. GigSky is the option for a cruise that calls at Istanbul or Kusadasi, not for a land trip, because its Türkiye record is the weakest here. It worked well for 8 of 11 travelers who reported from Türkiye (73%), limited evidence: two cruise reviews say it worked on the ship and in every port including Istanbul, and a free plan from a Visa card worked without issue. The three misses were all in Istanbul or on land: data that stopped mid-city when a traveler needed a taxi (Jul 2026), an eSIM that never connected in Istanbul (Mar 2026) and one that did not work in Türkiye at all (Dec 2025).

Its Türkiye plans in our comparison tool are 1, 3, 5 and 10 GB plus a one-day unlimited pass, and its Cruise and Europe or World plans cover Türkiye with ship coverage. We could not confirm which Turkish network it uses. In our GigSky review the app stayed partly online with zero data so you can buy more without Wi-Fi, and a human answered at once, but purchase needs the app. On price it is slightly above the market average in Türkiye and the most expensive provider overall in our comparison. Price per GB in Türkiye by eSIM Provider

How much does each provider charge per GB in Türkiye? The chart below compares plans of 1 to 10 GB that last 6 to 14 days, the usual range for a one- or two-week trip. Provider websites show only their own plans, so this side-by-side view is one you would otherwise have to calculate yourself. A shorter bar means a lower price per GB.

The tables below pick the best plan per data tier from the providers in this article, with live prices. The Türkiye market is unusual: five providers sell unlimited priced by the day, and the three cheapest fixed-data providers in our comparison (eSIM4Travel, Global YO and ByteSIM) all ride Türk Telekom or Turkcell rather than Vodafone. Best eSIM for Istanbul, Antalya and Eastern Anatolia

Istanbul has by far the most place-level reports and Maya Mobile wins it; on the Antalya coast Holafly, Yesim and Maya Mobile all had clean or near-clean records. Counts below are from the city and area rows of our report analysis, providers in the same order as the matrix.

Best eSIM for Istanbul

Maya Mobile wins Istanbul with 18 of 22 reports, the largest clean-enough record in the city; Yesim (6 of 6) and Ubigi (4 of 4) had no misses at all but fewer reports. Maya's four Istanbul misses were LTE-only service with gaps downtown, 3G fallback, an eSIM that never came online, and a plan without Türkiye in it. Nomad's 10 Istanbul misses are the ones to learn from: no reception on arrival at Istanbul Airport (three reports), signal that kept dropping around Galataport, a 1 GB plan that stopped after a few minutes, and service that died on a return flight into the city. Holafly's three misses were eSIMs that stopped after the first day. Airalo lost 3 of 4 here, with a dead app and one high-rise hotel without service.

The successes agree on one thing: install before you fly and the eSIM connects somewhere between the taxiway and immigration. Several Maya, Nomad and Airalo reviews say exactly that, while every "nothing on landing" report involved setting up after arrival or a plan that excluded Türkiye.

Best eSIM for Antalya

Holafly wins Antalya with 4 of 4 reports, one of them 5G for most of the stay, and Yesim (3 of 3) and Maya Mobile (9 of 10) are close behind. Maya's one Antalya miss was a weak signal in the resort area outside the city (Apr 2025), while its successes include the Taurus Mountains and boat trips off the coast. Nomad lost 2 of 3 here: a long wait to connect at Antalya Airport followed by a signal too weak for messages (Jul 2026), and an eSIM that stopped on arrival in Antalya and Konya after working across the west (Jun 2026). Yesim's only failed place report in the country is at Antalya Airport, so even the best coastal providers can need a moment after landing.

Best eSIM at Istanbul Airport

No provider has three reports from Istanbul Airport, so the country pick applies. What the five reports say: Global YO and Airalo each connected right after landing, one of them with a single tap, while Nomad connected for 1 of 3 travelers and left the other two without reception in the terminal. Best eSIM for Eastern Anatolia and the mountains

There are too few reports from the east to name a pick, so the country pick applies, with one qualification from the network research: Turkcell is the operator with the reputation for rural and mountain coverage, and the providers that name Turkcell on their own pages are Holafly, Ubigi, Roamless and eSIM4Travel's Turkcell plan [8] [10] [15] [17]. The few reports fit that: Holafly worked in eastern Türkiye and on a ride into Georgia, Maya Mobile had signal high on the Iranian border, while Nomad (on Türk Telekom) reported spotty coverage in eastern Türkiye and no signal in the mountains above Trabzon.

Local SIM Cards and Operator eSIMs in Türkiye

A Türk Telekom tourist SIM from a city store beats every travel eSIM on data per lira for a stay of three weeks or more with heavy use and a need for a Turkish number; for anything shorter, a travel eSIM wins on the passport handover, the queue, the airport markup and the 120-day phone rule it avoids. Türk Telekom publishes its tourist packs in English: Welcome 10GB with 250 minutes and 250 SMS for 7 days at 320 TL, Welcome 25GB with 750 minutes and 750 SMS for 28 days at 420 TL, Welcome 50GB with 1,500 minutes and 1,000 SMS for 28 days at 550 TL, and Welcome 75GB for 15 days at 550 TL, as of 30 August 2026 [3].

Turkcell's Tourist Welcome Pack is 20 GB with 200 minutes for 28 days at 1,800 TL on its campaign page, valid to 31 December 2026 and re-checked on 26 September 2026; a second Turkcell shop page still showed 1,500 TL for 30 days on the same date, so expect the higher figure in store [4]. The pack is sold only to new prepaid lines opened on a foreign passport, as stated on Turkcell's shop page. Vodafone's Welcome to Turkey pack is 20 GB with 750 minutes and WhatsApp, Telegram and Messenger use free for 28 days, but Vodafone publishes no price and says it varies by shop [5]. Türk Telekom and Vodafone both list data overage at 2 kuruş per 100 kB [3] [5].

Three rules apply to every local line. A passport is required and the shop copies it. A one-off special communication tax (ÖİV) of 700 TL on a new mobile line is reported for 2026; we could not confirm on an operator page that it is charged on tourist prepaid lines. A foreign phone works on Turkish networks for 120 days from its first Turkish signal, then BTK blocks it for calls, SMS and mobile data until its IMEI is registered through e-Devlet, at a fee reported at 54,258 TL for 2026 by most sources (one gives a higher figure), limited to one device per person every three calendar years. A travel eSIM does not trigger this, according to providers and the prepaid SIM wiki, because it roams as a foreign line; BTK has not confirmed that in writing.

Where to buy: operator stores in every city and in the arrival halls at Istanbul (IST), Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), Antalya (AYT), İzmir (ADB) and Ankara (ESB). Airport counters charge more; one first-hand report from February 2026 paid 1,490 TL at Vodafone's Sabiha Gökçen counter for 25 GB with calls, and a Türk Telekom airport bundle at 1,115 TL came with one week of validity instead of 28 days. Pay in lira: dollar or euro sticker prices at airport counters are reported to carry a further markup. Turkcell's online pre-order is limited to 90 days before or after arrival and needs a Turkish address, a foreign card and the same passport at pickup, according to its page, which we could not re-open to confirm.

Mobile Networks in Türkiye

Türkiye has three networks, Turkcell, Vodafone Türkiye and Türk Telekom, and the travel eSIMs in this article all roam on one or two of them. Turkcell is the one to want outside the cities: it is the largest operator by subscribers, led Opensignal's June 2025 download and upload measurements, and was the fastest 5G network in Opensignal's April 2026 launch report, according to that third-party measurement firm. Vodafone is reported strongest on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts (Bodrum, İzmir, Antalya) and led Opensignal's reliability score; Türk Telekom is solid in Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir but weakest outside towns in the same reports. The sector has 101.1 million mobile subscriptions, of which only 17% are prepaid, per Türk Telekom's investor page restating regulator data [2].

Which provider is on which network, as of August 2026: Holafly names Turkcell and TT Mobil [8]; Ubigi names Türk Telekom and Turkcell [10]; Roamless names Turkcell [15]; eSIM4Travel's Turkcell line runs on Turkcell [17]; Airalo, Nomad, ByteSIM and Global YO name Türk Telekom (Avea) [13] [16] [11] [12]. Yesim, Maya Mobile, GoMoWorld and Saily did not name a network on their pages when we checked [9] [19] [14] [18]; third-party audits attribute Turkcell to Saily and Yesim and Türk Telekom to Jetpac, and we could not confirm GigSky's network. "Avea" on an eSIM profile is Türk Telekom's old brand, still used in the profiles. 5G went live on 1 April 2026 in all 81 provincial centres and must reach the whole country by April 2028; Turkcell states its launch footprint on its newsroom [7]. For a visitor it is still a 4G country in practice: Global YO's Türkiye eSIM is 4G only [12], most Jetpac Türkiye plans carry the same flag in our comparison tool, and reviewers on Holafly, Maya Mobile and Saily describe 4G most of the time. The official all-operator coverage checker requires an e-Devlet login with a Turkish ID [1], and we could not find public maps from Turkcell or Vodafone; Türk Telekom's own map is the one operator map a visitor can open, with the caveat that its values are approximate [6]. How to Set Up an eSIM for Türkiye

Install and activate at home, because once you are on a Turkish network most provider sites and apps do not load. That single step explains most of the "nothing on landing" reports in this article.

1. Check your phone can take an eSIM and is unlocked; our list of phones that take an eSIM covers the common models. iPhones sold in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao have no eSIM.
2. Buy and install before you fly, over Wi-Fi. Airalo's page says eSIMs can no longer be downloaded on arrival [13]; Ubigi says its app and website are inaccessible from inside Türkiye [10]. Watch the activation windows: Saily 180 days [18], eSIM4Travel 90 days, Ubigi's QR six months, Nomad 60 days on its page then auto-start [16], Jetpac three months. Yesim's plan started at purchase in our test, so buy it close to departure or use its "activate later" option.
3. Follow the install for your phone: our guides for adding an eSIM on iPhone and adding an eSIM on Samsung. Most plans start on first connection in Türkiye, not at install, so this is safe at home. GoMoWorld is the exception: press Start (or schedule it) in the app, or nothing happens.
4. Set the APN if asked: "globaldata" for Maya Mobile and Global YO, "mobiledata" for Ubigi, "gigsky" for GigSky, and "Proximus Internet" if Roamless's preset APN does not pass data. Several Nomad and Maya reviews only got online after a manual APN entry.
5. On landing, turn data roaming on for the eSIM, set it as the data line, and switch your home SIM's data off. If data does not come up within a few minutes, select the network manually (Turkcell or Vodafone fixed two reports above), toggle airplane mode, then see our eSIM troubleshooting guide.
6. Keep an eye on data: with zero data most apps die and you cannot top up without Wi-Fi or a VPN. GigSky, Ubigi and Roamless still reached their stores at zero in our tests; Holafly has no top-ups at all.

Calls and SMS in Türkiye

Every Türkiye plan from the providers in this article is data only, so calls go over WhatsApp or another app; Türkiye's calling code is +90. Reviewers used WhatsApp voice and video calls on Holafly, Maya Mobile and Nomad without trouble. None of the 14 providers lists minutes or SMS on a Türkiye plan in our comparison tool. The exceptions are regional and add-on: Airalo's Discover+ global plans include calls and texts on a US number, Saily sells a US number add-on, Jetpac sells in-app voice packs, Roamless and Global YO offer app-based outgoing calls, and Holafly's subscription and Yesim offer numbers that receive SMS for verification codes.

If you need a Turkish number, the local operator packs in the local SIM section include it: Türk Telekom's tourist packs carry 250 to 1,500 minutes and SMS [3], Turkcell's 200 minutes [4], Vodafone's 750 minutes [5]. Keep your home SIM active alongside the eSIM to receive bank codes by SMS, as several reviewers did.

Free eSIM Data for Türkiye

Four providers here give away a little data that works in Türkiye. Roamless lists a free Türkiye trial plan in our comparison tool for new users, on Turkcell; Nomad has a free 1 GB three-day Türkiye trial plan for new users; GigSky gives a free trial on sign-up and free plans to some Visa cardholders, which one reviewer used for a whole trip; Jetpac has a free starter eSIM with a small allowance. GoMoWorld's free one-day trial is listed by the provider too. None of these replaces a plan for a week, but they are enough to test that your phone and the eSIM connect. Summary: the best eSIM for Türkiye

Based on 762 traveler reports and our own tests, Holafly is the best option for most trips to Türkiye: it worked well for 84 of 88 travelers, on two networks, with unlimited data and a one-tap install; its weaknesses are capped speeds, a 1 GB-a-day hotspot limit, no top-ups and a high price for unlimited. Yesim (69 of 74) is the choice for a short stay with unlimited data priced by the day, weaker on its slow help desk and a plan that may start at purchase. Maya Mobile (178 of 195) is the choice for Istanbul and for trips into the mountains, on one global unlimited plan with a generous daily allowance, but a few travelers hit slow or unstable data and one in ten Istanbul reports failed.

Ubigi (24 of 26) is the choice when the trip includes Northern Cyprus, with both Turkcell and Türk Telekom on its page, but our help-desk ticket got no reply and its app is clumsy.
