Maya Mobile is the best option for most trips to Greece of a week or more, because it combines the best record among the providers with strong evidence and the cheapest global unlimited plan in our comparison. It worked well for 63 of 67 travelers who reported from Greece (94%), strong evidence. The successes cover the whole country: Athens (4 of 4), Crete, Rhodes, Sithonia, Mykonos, Santorini, Evia, the Peloponnese, island-hopping cruises calling at several ports, and three-week trips used all day for maps and messaging without running out. One traveler on Crete in 2024 wrote that being able to switch between Cosmote and Nova was the best part of the trip, which is the one traveler report naming the networks; Maya's own page does not name them.

The misses were a Europe plan that would not connect in Greece in Feb 2026, no data at all for one traveler in Jun 2024, Pythagoreio on Samos where the phone sat on Edge or nothing while a companion's eSIM worked, and a Rhodes eSIM that never connected in 2024. Two travelers who counted as worked still described drops: one in Naxos, Paros, Santorini and around Syntagma in Athens, another with connection about 85% of the time over 30 days. A cruise family of nine found coverage patchier than hoped around the islands. Several reviews describe refunds within minutes or hours when a plan was bought with the wrong dates or in error.

Maya sells only global unlimited plans: 3, 7, 14 or 30 days, plus a Global + Cruise version that covers ships at sea at a much higher price, as of October 2026 in our comparison tool. Each day gives 5 GB at full speed and then slows, with the allowance reset daily; in our test that was the fairest unlimited rule of the 14 providers, and the speed test showed no cap before the allowance. The eSIM comes by email as a QR code, installs in about two minutes, and needs the "globaldata" APN and data roaming turned on. The help desk is a WhatsApp bot that hands you to a person after a form, in our case within about ten minutes, with template replies. The one real drawback is that nothing shorter than 3 days exists, so a weekend in Athens pays for data it will not use, and the app stops working once the plan is used up. GigSky is the pick for island hopping and cruise port days on land, because its island record is the cleanest of the big-sample providers. It worked well for 25 of 27 travelers who reported from Greece (93%), strong evidence. The successes read alike: two weeks across the mainland with consistent coverage, three different islands without a fault, good speeds while island hopping in the Cyclades, Italy and Greece on one 10 GB plan, and Athens 4 of 4. Many of these travelers came from Canada and used a Visa card benefit for free data.

The two misses were travelers who could not stay connected at all, one across France, Italy and Greece with a help desk that kept sending the same troubleshooting steps, one with trouble at the start in Greece that the help desk fixed quickly. The real pattern of complaints is at sea: three cruise travelers between Sep 2025 and Jun 2026 found the Cruise plan silent on open water around the Greek islands, including inside cabins, with one calling land reception on the same plan only acceptable. In our own test GigSky's cruise plans only connect once the ship is about 12 nautical miles out, and often only in port. Two travelers also saw the signal drop in Athens, one at the marina.

GigSky behaves like its own operator, so your status bar shows "GigSky", and it sells plans for Greece from 1 GB to 50 GB with validities from 7 to 180 days, plus a 1-day unlimited pass and separate ferry and cruise eSIMs, as of October 2026. Its own blog names Vodafone and Wind as the Greek networks, but its product page does not, and the same page gives two different daily allowances for unlimited, so we could not confirm the fair-use figure. You must install the app to buy, and the app keeps working after your data runs out, so you can buy a new plan without Wi-Fi, which only Ubigi matched in our test. The help desk answered us at once. On price it sits above the Greek market average, among the dearer half here, and its 3 GB to 10 GB plans index worst. Our GigSky review covers the app and the cruise test. "An eSIM that works perfectly in Greece on 3 different islands," wrote one traveler on 26 Jul 2026.

Holafly is the safe choice for travelers who want unlimited data on Crete and the Ionian islands without thinking about allowances, with one stated drawback: in our test its speed was capped from the first megabyte, before any data was used, while every other provider ran at full speed. In practice that is enough for maps, messaging, browsing and streaming, and slow for large downloads, uploads, cloud backups and laptop work. It worked well for 31 of 34 travelers who reported from Greece (91%), strong evidence, with Crete 4 of 4, Athens 4 of 4, Corfu, Kos, Megara, Marathon, Meteora, 35 days around the islands, and a cruise through the Aegean where data worked on deck. The hotspot is limited to 1 GB a day on its Greece page [7], though another Holafly article says 500 MB, so we could not confirm which applies, and there are no top-ups: when a plan ends you buy a new eSIM.

The three misses are specific. One traveler in Aug 2026 had data in Athens, then lost it on Santorini and never got it back on Naxos or Paros despite an hour with the help desk. Another had reception but no data for 12 days while a companion on Airalo stayed online. A third, with two phones for Greece and Turkey in Jun 2026, never got either eSIM working. Among the successes, travelers described poor speed in Delphi and Athens, blind spots on Corfu, and a drop in a Cretan valley, which fit the capped speed and the two-network setup.

Holafly says its Greece eSIM connects to Vodafone and Nova, and its own page warns that coverage in mountains may be weaker [7]. It sells unlimited plans only, from 3 to 30 days for Greece in our comparison tool, as of October 2026, with a free 1 GB a month after the plan ends if you keep the eSIM installed. Installation is one tap with no QR code, and the help desk reached a quick, useful person after a bot in our test; several Greek reviews say the same, including one who was sent a replacement eSIM. A deleted eSIM cannot be reinstalled. On price it is the most expensive of the unlimited providers in our comparison in about half of all comparisons, and the refund window for unused plans is six months. The speed finding is in our Holafly review. "Had connection for most of the time, even on some remote Greek islands," wrote one traveler on 15 Jul 2026.

Roamless suits ferry trips, sailing holidays and light users who visit Greece often, because its credit never expires and its island and at-sea reports are clean. It worked well for 22 of 25 travelers who reported from Greece (88%), strong evidence. The successes describe ferries between the islands, a cruise through the Greek islands with data in fringe areas, sailing the Aegean with Greek and Turkish operators switching as the boat crossed, and travelers who pass through Greece several times a year on the same credit. One traveler in May 2026 could also make calls in Greece through the app.

The three misses were a traveler who could not use it well in Greece in Jul 2026 after it had worked in the United States, one in Dec 2025 who was disconnected all the time and could not get app calls to work, and one in Oct 2025 who found it hit and miss on some islands and fell back on home roaming. One Athens report also counts as a miss. None describes a total blackout on the mainland.

Roamless is one global eSIM with pay-as-you-go credit charged per megabyte, plus fixed 30-day Greece plans from 1 GB to 50 GB and a free Greece trial of about 700 MB, as of October 2026 in our comparison tool, which lists Wind as the network; Roamless does not name one on its Greece page and we could not confirm it. There is no unlimited plan and no throttling is claimed. In our test the preselected APN did not work until we picked the partner network by hand, and the speed test only ran after a manual network switch, so this is a provider for people comfortable in phone settings. The help desk fixed our issue in about half an hour, and a trickle of data stayed on at zero balance, enough to top up without Wi-Fi. On price it sits at the Greek market average, second cheapest for 1 GB but among the dearest for 10 GB and up, so heavy users pay more. The setup findings are in our Roamless review. "Roamless was able to fetch data even in fringe areas, impressive," wrote one cruise traveler on 16 Oct 2025.

eSIM4Travel is the pick for anyone who wants the lowest price and access to Cosmote, the network with the widest reach on small islands, but its Greek record is thin: only 1 report from Greece so far, and it was positive. Its destination listing labels the Greece product with Cosmote, Vodafone and WIND, which makes it the only provider on this page that names all three Greek networks, and its plan names in our comparison tool carry the same three names. The one traveler, in Aug 2025, used it around the Mediterranean including Greece and found it worked flawlessly, with the option to switch between carriers for better speed.

There are no misses to report because there is only one report. What we can say comes from our hands-on test, run outside Greece: the eSIM arrived by email as a QR code, installed from a screenshot and worked at once; the help desk bot handed us to a person in one click, who solved the problem and suggested switching network; and the speed test showed no throttling before the plan's hard stop. It is the cheapest provider in our comparison for Greece, well below the market average, with the edge fading only at 50 GB.

Its Greece plans run from 500 MB to 50 GB with validities from 1 to 30 days, and unlimited from 3 to 30 days that slows after 3 GB a day, as of October 2026. Tethering is allowed and the plan starts on first connection, with 90 days to activate. The downsides are real: there is no app, no Google Pay, and no way to top up without Wi-Fi once the data runs out, because the store is a website. Ubigi is a good value for Athens and for large data plans, but not a top pick because its only Greek network is Nova, the weakest on islands, and because our help-desk ticket got no reply in 24 hours. It worked well for 28 of 34 travelers who reported from Greece (82%), strong evidence, with Athens 5 of 5, Aegina, Rhodes, Symi, Volos, Litochoro and Mount Olympus, and one family who had signal on the backroads and in the mountains of Crete. The six misses cluster on islands and outside Athens: no connection on Chios, nothing usable on Santorini and Mykonos, Corinth and the Peloponnese where one traveler bought a Cosmote eSIM instead, Nikiti, and an unlimited plan suspended for heavy use. Several reviewers also reported slow or no data 20% of the time outside Athens, and Ubigi's own replies point travelers to manual network selection.

Ubigi's product pages name Nova as the sole Greek network, and its Greece plans in our comparison tool run 3, 10, 25 and 50 GB for 7 to 30 days, plus unlimited for 7, 15 and 30 days with a published fair-use rule of 20 GB and 60 GB at full speed, as of October 2026. Only one plan fits in the cart per order, the eSIM must be activated within six months, and the page still shows a 3G icon although Greece has no 3G. In our test the speed was unthrottled and we could buy more data with zero balance, but the site and app were the clumsiest of the 14, and the ticket silence puts it behind every provider with a help desk that answers; details in our Ubigi review. On price it is below the Greek market average, the fourth cheapest here, which is why Athens-only travelers with a big data need might still choose Ubigi. Airalo is the easiest first eSIM to buy, but in Greece it is among the two most expensive providers in our comparison and its record is mixed. It worked well for 29 of 36 travelers who reported from Greece (81%), strong evidence, with good connections in Athens, on cruise stops in the islands, and on multi-country Europe plans. The seven misses are varied: no internet around Kilkis, Ormos and Sarti in northern Greece, where the reviewer blamed the two-network setup; three packages that never worked for one traveler; both eSIMs dying after three days of working; a Europe plan that did not work on the Greek islands; a Greece eSIM that could not be installed in a remote area with only a bot to help; and an unlimited plan that stopped working in the evenings. Counted successes also mention weak signal in Thessaloniki and a dead spot near Athens airport, and one traveler was surprised that the unlimited plan slows after 3 GB a day.

Airalo's Greece page names Nova (Wind Hellas) as the network, and its Greece plans run 1 GB to 50 GB for 3 to 30 days plus unlimited from 3 to 30 days at 3 GB a day, as of October 2026; its regional Europe and global plans also cover Greece, and six of those include calls and texts, which no other provider's Greek plans in our tool do. In our test purchase and installation were among the smoothest and the speed was uncapped, while the help desk needed a queue to reach a person; see our Airalo review. Travelers who want a number with minutes, or who already have the app, may still choose Airalo; one said on 10 Jul 2026: "Great connection in Greece! I had no issues at all."

Nomad has more Greek reports than any provider and the weakest record among them, so it is not a pick despite a fair price. It worked well for 60 of 88 travelers who reported from Greece (68%), strong evidence. The successes include cruise stops at Mykonos, Kefalonia, Santorini and Athens on 5G, Crete, two weeks without interruption, remote mountain areas and sailing between islands. The 28 misses are mostly coverage: no usable signal on Corfu town, Nikiti and Sithonia in Chalkidiki, Lefkada, Samos and Ikaria, Alonissos and Skopelos in the Sporades, Thassos and Parga; 5G bars with no data on Crete; and an unlimited plan that one traveler in Aug 2026 called unbearable once the daily 2 GB was used. Several reviewers point at the same cause, as one wrote on 6 Jul 2026: "Cosmote is the top network in Greece and Nomad does not connect to it."

Global YO is the second cheapest provider in Greece in our comparison and has no Greek misses, but the sample is small and older. It worked well for 7 of 7 travelers who reported from Greece (100%), limited evidence, all between Aug 2024 and May 2025: Athens, remote islands, small towns with fast data, and one traveler who could block stolen cards and book a hotel after losing a wallet. The only wrinkle was a Galaxy S22 Ultra that could not activate while an iPhone worked in Italy, Germany and Greece.

Global YO does not name a Greek network and we could not confirm one. Its Greece plans run 1 GB to 100 GB for 3 to 60 days plus Day Plans of 1 GB a day, with no unlimited, as of October 2026. Purchase is app-only, the eSIM is then emailed, the APN is "globaldata", a deleted eSIM cannot be reinstalled, and our help-desk replies took ten minutes and then over half an hour; see our Global YO review. Price-driven travelers who install at home might choose Global YO. "Setup was effortless and it worked perfectly even on remote islands," wrote one traveler on 19 Jan 2025.

Saily is the choice for a first eSIM, with the smoothest installation and one of the two best help desks in our test, but it is the most expensive provider in Greece in our comparison and has few reports. It worked well for 4 of 4 travelers who reported from Greece (100%), limited evidence: ten days around Crete on two lines with no signal problems, mostly on the Nova network according to the reviewer, Corfu and Albania, and a multi-country trip with some limited spots. There are no misses in this sample.

Saily does not name its Greek networks and third-party reports conflict, so we could not confirm them. Its Greece plans run 1 GB for 7 days and 3 to 20 GB for 30 days, plus a 15-day unlimited plan with 5 GB a day at full speed, as of October 2026; the app adds a free VPN location and ad blocker. Jetpac has a good Greek record and useful extras, but a rough app, a slightly above-average price here and unlimited plans that are 4G only keep it out of the top group. It worked well for 9 of 10 travelers who reported from Greece (90%), limited evidence: Crete including the drives between cities with hotspot for remote work, 5G where Nova has coverage, and several travelers whose eSIM problems at the Turkish border or on a second phone were fixed by the help desk within minutes. The one miss, in Dec 2024, found every available network blocked on a 20 GB plan and got only the website's troubleshooting steps.

Jetpac does not name its Greek network and third-party reports conflict. Its Greece packs run 1 GB to 40 GB for 3 to 30 days, and all seven Greece unlimited plans in our comparison tool are flagged 4G only, with 3 GB a day at full speed, as of October 2026; its page listed the 20 GB plan above the 30 GB plan when we checked in September 2026. WhatsApp, Maps, Uber and Grab keep working after the data runs out on packs of 3 GB and up, in-app voice packs add minutes, and a delayed flight unlocks a free lounge; the app and checkout were among the clumsiest we tested, see our Jetpac review. Frequent flyers who want those extras might choose Jetpac. One traveler wrote on 19 Aug 2024 of a "reliable fast connection (where the operator Nova has coverage) with 5G support".

Yesim is a flexible option for unlimited data sold by the day, but a small Greek sample and the slowest help-desk replies of any provider we could reach keep it out of the top group. It worked well for 8 of 10 travelers who reported from Greece (80%), limited evidence, including one report from Athens airport and one from Crete. The review texts available to us do not describe where or how the two misses happened, so we cannot say whether they were coverage, activation or speed.

Yesim's blog names Cosmote, Vodafone and Wind Hellas, but its Greece product page does not, so treat that as reported. Its Greece plans in our comparison tool run 500 MB to 30 GB plus unlimited for any length from 1 to 30 days, as of October 2026, with throttling under the partner's rule and an unpublished limit; the hotspot is not guaranteed. In our test the plan started at the moment of purchase rather than on first use, so buy close to departure, and help-desk replies took 15 minutes to an hour each; see our Yesim review. ByteSIM has the widest Greek catalogue on this page but too few reports to judge and the worst checkout and help desk in our test. It worked well for 2 of 3 travelers who reported from Greece (67%), too few to judge: one on Crete and one who was guided through a purchase. The miss, in Jul 2024, bought a 4-day unlimited plan that slowed to unusable after about 1 GB, so that not even WhatsApp worked, and the help desk did not fix it.

ByteSIM's Greece page names Vodafone and Nova. Its Greece plans in our comparison tool run from 500 MB to 300 GB, as daily allowances, fixed packs and unlimited, for 1 to 30 days, as of October 2026, with no top-ups and no ID check. In our test the checkout demanded a phone number and full postal address, the app threw install errors, the promised 5G came as 4G, and WhatsApp support did not reply within 15 minutes; see our ByteSIM review. GoMoWorld is the third cheapest provider in Greece in our comparison and the fastest, unthrottled eSIM we tested, but it has the weakest Greek record on this page. It worked well for 3 of 7 travelers who reported from Greece (43%), limited evidence: Corfu, a 15 GB plan one traveler called the best price in Greece, and a multi-country trip. The four misses, all between Aug 2025 and Aug 2026, were no network at all outside a hotel on a 30-day Greece plan, a Europe plan that worked in Norway but could not be made to work in Athens, Nikiti described as useless, and Nea Vrasna. In our test the plan does nothing until you press Start in the app, which is a common cause of "not working" reports, though the reviews do not say whether that was the cause here.

GoMoWorld does not name its Greek networks. Its four Greece plans in our comparison tool are 4 GB for 7 days and 15, 50 or 75 GB for 30 days, with a Europe regional option, no unlimited and no calls, as of October 2026; the eSIM is never emailed, one account serves one device, and a human help desk is only available in office hours. Price per GB in Greece by eSIM Provider

How much does each provider charge per GB in Greece? The chart below compares plans of 1 to 10 GB that last 6 to 14 days, the usual range for a one- or two-week trip. Provider websites show only their own plans, so this side-by-side view is one you would otherwise have to calculate yourself. A shorter bar means a lower price per GB.

The tables below list the current cheapest plans for Greece by data size. Thirteen of the 14 providers sell a Greece-only plan; Maya Mobile sells only its global unlimited plan, which covers Greece. Unlimited plans exist from eleven providers, and the fair-use rule is the real difference between them: Maya and Saily give 5 GB a day at full speed, Airalo, eSIM4Travel and Jetpac 3 GB, Nomad 2 GB, Ubigi a published 20 GB or 60 GB per plan, and Holafly, Yesim and ByteSIM do not publish a figure. The table lists every place in Greece that travelers named in their reports, with the raw counts per provider. Athens, Crete and the islands as a group have enough reports for their own picks; most single islands do not, so the country pick (Maya Mobile) applies there.

Best eSIM for the Greek Islands

Among travelers who wrote only "the Greek islands" without naming one, Nomad has the best count, 8 of 8, ahead of Roamless at 5 of 5 and Maya Mobile at 4 of 4; but the reports that do name an island tell a different story, and there Roamless and Maya Mobile are the safer choices. Nomad's named-island reports include misses on Corfu, Lefkada, Samos, Ikaria, Alonissos, Skopelos and Thassos, and 4 of 6 on Crete, while Roamless has no named-island miss at all and Maya Mobile only Samos and one of two Rhodes reports. Ubigi worked for 5 of 6 unnamed-island travelers but failed on Chios, Mykonos and once on Santorini, and GigSky's 2 of 3 hides a strong record on the islands themselves (three islands without a fault, island hopping with good speeds) and failures only at sea on cruise plans.

The pattern fits the network map: Cosmote is the operator with the widest reach on the smaller Cycladic and Dodecanese islands, and only eSIM4Travel lists it for Greece, with 1 report so far. Airalo's Europe plan did not work on the islands for one traveler, and one Holafly traveler lost data on Santorini, Naxos and Paros. For ferries between islands, Roamless (ferries and sailing the Aegean) and Nomad (no interruption on a boat) have the reports; Holafly had data on deck during an Aegean cruise. If the island is one of the smaller ones, a Cosmote tourist SIM from the local SIM section is the fallback with the best coverage.

Best eSIM for Athens

Ubigi is the Athens pick with 5 of 5 reports, including Uber rides across the city and a trip that took in Aegina; Maya Mobile, GigSky and Holafly each worked for 4 of 4 in the city, so any of the four is a sound choice here, and Maya Mobile is the better buy if the trip continues to the islands. The Athens misses were a GoMoWorld Europe plan that could not be made to work in the city, one Roamless report, and one slow Nomad connection; counted successes also mention a GigSky signal that dropped at the marina, Holafly data that was slow in Athens and Delphi, Maya Mobile drops around Ermou and Voulis streets, and an Airalo dead spot near the airport.

At Athens International Airport the two reports split: a Yesim traveler connected, an Airalo traveler did not. Several reviewers across providers install the eSIM at home and switch it on in the arrivals hall, which is also what our setup section advises. If you land without a working eSIM, Sim Local runs two prepaid SIM counters at the airport, in the baggage hall and in arrivals near exit 1, open daily from 06:00 to 22:00, according to Sim Local's own site.

Best eSIM for Crete

Holafly is the Crete pick with 4 of 4 reports: data worked almost everywhere in Crete for one traveler, with good speed and no connection problems for another, and a valley caused the only drop. Its speed was capped from the start in our test, so it suits maps, messaging and streaming rather than laptop work. Maya Mobile worked for 2 of 2 on Crete, including a 14-day stay with Cosmote and Nova both available, and the single reports from Saily (ten days on two lines), Jetpac (drives between cities with hotspot), Ubigi (backroads and mountains), Yesim and ByteSIM were all positive.

Nomad is the one to avoid on Crete at 4 of 6: one traveler saw 5G bars but no working internet, another barely had reception while family members on a different provider had full signal. Both fit Nomad's Vodafone and Wind setup on an island where the interior belongs to Cosmote. No report mentions Heraklion or Chania airports by name.

Local SIM Cards and Operator eSIMs in Greece

A local SIM beats a travel eSIM in Greece only if you need Greek calls or plan to use far more data than any eSIM allows; for a data-only trip of up to a month, a travel eSIM is cheaper per trip, needs no passport and no store visit. The best local offer we could verify is Nova's FREE2GO tourist bundle: as of September 2026, €15 buys 100 GB plus unlimited minutes to Greek networks and 500 SMS for 7 days, and €20 buys 250 GB with 1,000 SMS for 15 days, VAT included [3]. Each bundle can be activated once and cannot be reactivated after it expires [3]. The catch is the network: Nova is the weakest of the three on islands and rural mainland.

Cosmote, the operator with the widest reach, sells a Travellers' SIM and eSIM with unlimited data and no stated speed cap; third-party reports from June and August 2026 put the 7-day version at €19.90, with the same price for eSIM and physical SIM, but one competitor's article says Cosmote has no tourist plan, and we could not confirm the offer on Cosmote's own site. Vodafone's tourist pack page was blocked when we checked in September 2026, so we cannot quote it. Vodafone leads Opensignal's reliability and time-on-network measures, so a Vodafone store SIM is a fair choice for Athens and the main tourist islands.

Every Greek SIM, prepaid or not, is registered to your name and passport number at the point of sale. Nova's remote flow shows what that means in practice: you fill in your details, take a selfie, photograph your ID and sign a declaration digitally, and the documents are checked within minutes [3]. SIMs are sold in Cosmote, Germanos, Vodafone and Nova stores, at kiosks (periptera), and in selected hotels and airports for FREE2GO [3]; the sub-brands Frog (Cosmote), Tazamobile (Vodafone) and FREE2GO and Q (Nova) are the only alternatives, since Greece has no independent virtual operator [2].

Avoid the airport counters unless you are stuck. Sim Local holds the prepaid concession at Athens International Airport, according to its own site, and a third-party report from January 2025 put the activation fee there at €12.50 per SIM on top of the plan, with a Vodafone travel pass of 15 GB plus minutes coming to €35 all in according to a February 2026 report; both figures are dated and we could not confirm them. Street vendors near Omonia reportedly sell cheap prepaid SIMs, which we could not confirm and would not rely on. EU residents can usually skip all of this: a home SIM from another EU country roams in Greece at home prices.

Mobile Networks in Greece

Greece has three operators and the one your eSIM uses decides how the islands go. Cosmote held 44.4% of active connections at the end of 2024, Vodafone 34.1% and Nova 21.5%, according to the regulator EETT's market data [1], and there are no independent virtual operators, only the operators' own sub-brands [2]. Cosmote won Opensignal's Best Network award for Greece in March 2026 on download speed, consistent quality and coverage experience, and a second independent dataset from MedUX in May 2026 ranks the three in the same order on speed. Cosmote also runs the only commercial 5G standalone network in Greece and states 5G population coverage above 99% [4]; Vodafone stated more than 95% in January 2026 and Nova 90% in June 2025, both as reported by Opensignal.

Where each wins matters more than the headline numbers. Cosmote leads on geographic reach, remote islands and the mountainous mainland, and several independent guides call it the only network with dependable service on the smaller Cycladic and Dodecanese islands, though that claim rests on third-party sources. Vodafone leads Opensignal's reliability and time-on-network measures and is strong in Attica and the busy tourist islands, but falls off on small islands and rural mainland. Nova is cheapest and fine at major attractions, but last on coverage experience and speed and weakest on islands. Cosmote's own English coverage map is a useful planning tool, with one caveat printed on the page: its data was collected in March 2021 and is refreshed once a year [5]. Nova publishes a speed map by area [6].

Which eSIM rides which network, as of September 2026: eSIM4Travel lists Cosmote, Vodafone and WIND, the only provider here naming all three. Holafly names Vodafone and Nova [7], ByteSIM Vodafone and Nova, Nomad Vodafone and Wind, Airalo Nova (Wind Hellas), and Ubigi Nova alone, all on their own pages. GigSky's blog names Vodafone and Wind, and Yesim's blog names all three, but neither product page does. Saily, Jetpac, Global YO, GoMoWorld, Maya Mobile and Roamless do not name a Greek network, and the third-party claims for Saily, Jetpac and Roamless conflict, so we could not confirm them; our comparison tool lists Wind for Roamless. According to press reports, Wind Hellas was merged into Nova and the Wind brand retired in January 2023, so "Wind" on a provider page means Nova. All three operators have shut down 3G, which Opensignal confirms, so there is no 3G fallback anywhere in Greece: a phone that loses 4G drops to 2G, where data barely works. Several provider pages, including Ubigi's, still show a 3G icon for Greece. 2G is not yet scheduled for shutdown and still carries voice fallback for local SIMs. For a trip that mixes Athens with the islands, the practical reading is this: a Vodafone-based eSIM is fine for the city and the big islands, a Cosmote-capable eSIM or local SIM is the better bet for the Cyclades, the Dodecanese and the interior of Crete. How to Set Up an eSIM for Greece

Install before you fly: almost every provider here starts the plan on first connection in Greece, not at installation, so you can set it up on home Wi-Fi and switch it on in the arrivals hall. The exceptions in our tests were Yesim, whose plan started at purchase, GoMoWorld, which does nothing until you press Start in the app, and some Airalo packages that start at installation (check the package page). Travelers in the reviews who installed at home and activated on landing had the fewest problems.

1. Check that your phone can take an eSIM and is unlocked; our first eSIM guide walks through the check and the purchase.
2. Buy the plan at home. Activation windows differ: eSIM4Travel gives 90 days, Nomad's Greece plans list 30 days in our comparison tool, Saily and Yesim 180 days, Ubigi six months from the QR code, Jetpac three months, and GoMoWorld plans never expire until activated. GoMoWorld, Saily, Roamless and GigSky deliver the eSIM only through their app; Global YO sells only in the app but then emails the QR code; the rest email a QR code.
3. Install on Wi-Fi following the iPhone eSIM guide or the Samsung eSIM guide. Keep the eSIM line off until you land where the plan starts on first connection, as GigSky advises for its plans.
4. On landing, turn the eSIM line on, set it as the data line, enable data roaming, and set the APN if asked: "globaldata" for Maya Mobile and Global YO, "gigsky" for GigSky, "mobiledata" for Ubigi; Roamless worked in our test only after we picked the partner network by hand.
5. If you see bars but no data, select the network manually in Settings. eSIM4Travel, Roamless and Maya Mobile let you move between Greek networks, and Ubigi's replies to Greek reviewers point to the same fix. Calls and SMS in Greece

Greece's calling code is +30, and nearly every travel eSIM on this page is data-only, so calls go over WhatsApp, Viber or another app, which Greek businesses widely use. One Airalo traveler who expected to phone a bank from a Greece eSIM found she could not, and Maya Mobile, Holafly, Ubigi, GigSky and GoMoWorld plans for Greece include no minutes or texts at all.
