Best eSIM for Sweden in 2026: 14 Providers Ranked by Traveler Reports

Key Takeaways

Key takeaways

Based on 71 traveler reports from Sweden and our tests, the best option for most trips is Maya Mobile: it worked well for 9 of 9 travelers who reported from Sweden. GigSky (5 of 5) suits Stockholm plus Copenhagen; its app tops up at zero balance. Saily (4 of 4) is the choice for a first eSIM, best app and help desk, but dear. Nomad (16 of 18) suits Scandinavia bundles; its two misses were a plan that never connected and dropped data. Holafly (7 of 8) suits long unlimited stays, but its speed was capped from the start in our test. eSIM4Travel is the cheapest here, no Sweden reports yet, no app.

The best eSIM for Sweden depends less on price than on which Swedish network the eSIM lands on. Sweden has four operators on three physical networks, and the regulator PTS reports that in November 2025 only 63% of public roads and railways had continuous good-capacity mobile coverage, with all four operators counted together [1]. PTS adds that its figures are aggregated: an area counted as covered may be served by one operator and by none of the other three [1]. In Stockholm, Gothenburg or Malmö that does not matter. On the E10 north of Kiruna, on a hike in the fjäll or at a rented cabin it does, so an eSIM that can use Telia or several networks is worth more than one locked to a single partner.

Two other facts matter before you land. Sweden's 3G networks shut down during 2025, Tele2 and Telenor switched off 2G as well on 1 Dec 2025, and only Telia keeps 2G running, until the end of 2027 [3]. A phone without VoLTE (voice calls over 4G) can no longer reach the emergency number 112 on three of the four networks, and PTS ordered those operators to block such handsets from 2 Feb 2026 [4]. Second, every Swedish prepaid SIM has needed ID registration before first use since 1 Aug 2022, and the card does not work until the operator has checked your identity [2]. A travel eSIM is a foreign roaming product, so that rule does not apply to it. That is the strongest reason to install one before you fly rather than queue at a SIM kiosk at Arlanda.

We read 71 traveler reports from Sweden, published between June 2024 and August 2026, and set them against our own hands-on tests of all 14 providers in our comparison tool. The reports cover Stockholm city breaks, Denmark-and-Sweden combinations, Nordic road trips and winter trips to the north, which is what most readers of this page are planning.

Best eSIM Providers for Sweden

eSIM plans in Sweden at a glance

How well each provider's eSIM works in Sweden

The Vefru score is our overall rating of the provider. The percentage shows how many reviewers said their eSIM worked well in Sweden. Since unhappy customers review more often, it is best used to compare providers with each other.

How we got these numbers: we read 71 public customer reviews that mention Sweden or a place in it, published between June 2024 and August 2026, and counted a report as "worked" when the reviewer said the eSIM connected, even with small hiccups. We treat 20 or more reports as strong evidence, 3 to 19 as limited, and fewer than 3 as too few to judge. A count like 16 of 18 means the eSIM worked well for 16 of the 18 travelers who reported from here; each provider section says what went wrong for the rest. The Vefru test score is a separate number: our own hands-on test of the provider, run outside Sweden, so it says how the provider behaves, not how the network performs here. Local operator prices in the text were checked on 29 August 2026; provider ratings, the plan tables and the price-per-GB chart are live and update on their own.

Maya Mobile eSIM in our hands

Maya Mobile testing preview Maya Mobile testing speed 1 Maya Mobile testing speed 2 Maya Mobile testing support

Based on the reports and our test, Maya Mobile is the best option for most trips to Sweden: it has the cleanest Swedish record of any provider and the fairest unlimited plan we tested. It worked well for 9 of 9 travelers who reported from Sweden (100%), which we treat as limited evidence. The successes are the kind of trips this page is for: three weeks in Sweden and Denmark with a sister on the hotspot, Stockholm combined with Iceland and Finland, six months across Europe without a single fault, and a winter trip through Lapland and Iceland where the reviewer called the coverage excellent in remote areas. One traveler wrote in August 2025: "Just used it for 3 weeks in Sweden and Denmark with no issues."

Nobody reported a dead zone or an activation failure. The one caveat comes from a Swedish reviewer in December 2024 who rated it four stars: the connection was fine, but some Swedish TV streams were region-locked, the camping app Park4Nights could not update its maps, and BankID (the Swedish identity app) refused to verify card payments. That is what a roaming eSIM with a foreign exit point looks like from inside Sweden, and it can happen with other providers on this page too. Maya says it connects you to the strongest local network in each country but did not name its Swedish network on its page when we checked in August 2026 [19].

Maya sells one product: a global unlimited plan for 3, 7, 14 or 30 days that covers Sweden with about 165 other countries, plus a Global + Cruise version. No Sweden-only plan, no fixed data, nothing under three days, data only, hotspot included. Full speed runs for 5 GB a day, then the speed drops until the daily reset; in our hands-on test the slowdown arrived after about 5 GB and left a usable connection, the fairest unlimited rule of the 14 providers. Installation took about two minutes once we set the APN to "globaldata" and switched roaming on, and 5G came up at once. The weak spot is the help desk: a WhatsApp bot that ignores your message, a five-step form, then a human after about ten minutes with template replies. On price it is the cheapest global unlimited plan in our comparison by a wide margin, but poor value for a two-day stop, where a small fixed plan from eSIM4Travel costs a fraction. It suits a week or more, several Nordic countries on one eSIM, heavy users and anyone sharing a hotspot. Our Maya Mobile review has the full test with screenshots, and you can buy it from Maya Mobile directly.

GigSky eSIM in our hands

GigSky testing outdoor GigSky testing speed 1 GigSky testing speed 2 GigSky testing support

GigSky is the pick for a Stockholm trip that also takes in Copenhagen or Oslo, because every Swedish report describes that route and its app keeps working after the data runs out. It worked well for 5 of 5 travelers who reported from Sweden (100%), limited evidence. The reports: Stockholm and Copenhagen in August 2026, five days in Denmark and Sweden, a strong connection "including areas between cities" in June 2026, great coverage through Norway, Denmark and Sweden, and a frequent traveler whose third trip in six months included Stockholm.

There were no misses from Sweden. The same frequent traveler found GigSky spotty in Nassau while a cruise ship was in port, a hint about crowded cells rather than about Sweden. In our hands-on test the speed felt unstable on a strong 5G cell and the app is a wrapped website that hides the ICCID, which is why GigSky's Vefru test score sits mid-table despite a help desk where a human answered at once.

Sweden plans: 1 GB for 7 days, 3 GB for 15 days, 5 and 10 GB for 30 days, 20 GB for 90 days, 50 GB for 180 days, and a 1-day unlimited pass; the Cruise & Europe and Cruise & World plans also cover Sweden, which matters on a Stockholm to Helsinki ferry. Data only. GigSky says a top-up runs from the date you buy it, not from the end of the current plan, so a 7-day top-up bought three days early gives 7 days in total [23]. It did not name a Swedish network on its page when we checked in August 2026 [23]. What sets it apart: the app stays partly online at zero balance, so you can buy another plan without Wi-Fi, which only Ubigi matched in our test. You must install the app to buy, and name your device during setup. On price, GigSky is the most expensive provider overall in our comparison because of its pricing in Asia and Africa, while at market in the big European countries; Sweden is not in our destination grid, so check its plan table below. Our GigSky review covers the cruise test, and the Sweden page is at GigSky.

Saily eSIM in our hands

Saily testing outdoor Saily testing speed 1 Saily testing speed 2 Saily testing support

Saily is the choice for a first eSIM in Sweden, because its app, installation and help desk were the smoothest of the 14 providers in our test, and no Swedish report says it failed to connect. It worked well for 4 of 4 travelers who reported from Sweden (100%), limited evidence. One of them wrote in June 2026 that Saily "saved me when Airalo stopped working in Stockholm".

The count hides two unhappy reviewers, so read them. One, in March 2026, said the plan did not activate on arrival in Sweden and he could only trigger it by reaching the app over his physical SIM, paying roaming to do so; the help desk was polite but had not solved it after two hours. Another, on a tour through Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki and the Baltics in June 2026, found his 30-day plan reported as 80% used after three days, topped up and still called the service lousy; his worst moments were in Estonia, not Sweden. Both match what we saw in our test: the app and the people are good, the data allowance is hard-cut with no warning, and the app goes offline at zero.

Sweden plans: 1 GB for 7 days, 3, 5, 10 and 20 GB for 30 days, and a 15-day unlimited plan with 5 GB a day at full speed before it slows; Europe and Global plans also cover Sweden. Saily's page gives a 180-day activation window, says there are no hotspot restrictions, and sells an optional US (+1) number for calls and texts [15]. It did not name its Swedish network on its page when we checked in August 2026 [15]. The app includes a virtual location, an ad blocker and web protection, and the eSIM exists only in the app, with no QR code by email. The drawback is price: Saily is among the two most expensive providers in 14 of the 24 popular destinations in our comparison, and above market at every plan size there. Our Saily review shows the installation flow; the Sweden page is at Saily.

Nomad eSIM in our hands

Nomad testing preview Nomad testing speed 1 Nomad testing speed 2 Nomad testing support

Nomad has more Sweden reports than any other provider and suits a trip that crosses into Norway, Denmark or Finland, because most of the successes are its Europe and Scandinavia regional plans. It worked well for 16 of 18 travelers who reported from Sweden (89%), limited evidence. The successes describe a Scandinavia plan through Denmark, Sweden and Finland "without a single hiccup" (August 2026), full bars within a minute of landing on a month-long trip, a family week in Sweden with a good connection throughout, a winter trip with a perfect signal in a remote area, and a Belgian reviewer who was pleased to be on a real Swedish operator rather than rerouted through a VPN.

The two misses were a Sweden-and-Norway purchase that only ever worked in Norway (August 2026) and a connection that dropped several times, once for half a day (August 2026). Three reports counted as worked still carry warnings. A German reviewer had to enter the APN by hand, as on his previous trip. An Australian could not stream Netflix or the World Cup because the SIM is Belgian. And a remote worker on the unlimited plan was throttled after one day to a level she could not work on, then got only an AI bot when she asked for help (May 2026). That bot is what we hit too: in our test it looped on an APN question and offered no route to a human.

Sweden plans: 1 GB for 3 or 7 days, 3 to 50 GB for 30 days, unlimited for 3 to 10 days at 2 GB a day before it slows to a crawl, plus Europe regional and global plans. Nomad names 3 and Tele2 as its Swedish networks [14]; an older plan page of its own, still live, lists Telenor, Hi3G, Telia and TDK-Mobil, so the partner set has moved. 3 (Tre) matters because it publishes the weakest 5G reach of the four operators, 80% of the population by registered address [8]. Nomad's page gave a 60-day activation window when we checked in August 2026 [14]; the plan terms in our comparison tool now say 30 days, so check the plan page before buying far ahead. The app is fast and has a unique home-screen widget showing remaining data. Price sits around the market average, flatter than most across sizes. It suits experienced users who will not need help; the Nomad review explains the bot problem, and plans are at Nomad.

Holafly eSIM in our hands

Holafly testing outdoor Holafly testing support Holafly testing support 2 Holafly testing speed

Holafly suits a long stay where you never want to think about data, with one condition: in our test, Holafly's speed was capped from the start, before a single megabyte was used. That is enough for maps, messaging, browsing and video streaming, and slow for large downloads, uploads, cloud backups and laptop work. It worked well for 7 of 8 travelers who reported from Sweden (88%), limited evidence, and the successes are long ones: seven weeks across the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Iceland, a student's six months on a month-to-month plan, and a trip through the UK, Norway, Sweden and Finland with "fast activation, stable connection" (May 2026).

The miss was a Europe eSIM activated in Sweden that stopped after twelve hours in Denmark; the first help-desk agent said Denmark was not covered, the reviewer showed Holafly's own page saying it was, and it took 90 minutes to get a partial offer (August 2026). Another reviewer counted as worked still gave one star: he bought the Scandinavia eSIM for its hotspot, found out afterwards that tethering is limited to 1 GB a day, and found the data connection poor on his trip (August 2026). Holafly's own Sweden page states that 1 GB-a-day hotspot limit, scaling with plan length, and a free "Always On" 1 GB a month after the plan ends if you keep the eSIM installed [13]; one third-party site claims 500 MB a day instead, which conflicts with Holafly's page, so go by Holafly's figure and expect a low cap either way.

Holafly says its Sweden eSIM connects to Tele2, Telia and Telenor [13], the widest official network list here after eSIM4Travel, and it includes Telia, the network to want outside the cities. It sells unlimited plans only, 1 to 90 days, data only, no Swedish number, and no top-ups: when a plan ends you buy a new eSIM. Our comparison tool had no Holafly Sweden plan at export time, so there is no plan table below; Holafly's page carries the current grid. On price, Holafly is the most expensive unlimited option in about half of our unlimited comparisons. It suits a long trip with a phone-only budget of patience, not a laptop. Our Holafly review has the speed test; the Sweden page is at Holafly.

eSIM4Travel is in this group for its price and its help desk, not for a Swedish record: there are no traveler reports from Sweden yet. It is the cheapest provider in our comparison across countries, and in Sweden its 3, 5, 10 and 20 GB plans sit well under every other provider's in our comparison tool. In our hands-on test, run outside Sweden, the help desk went from a short bot to a person in one click, that person solved the problem and added a tip on switching network, the eSIM installed from a QR code and worked right away, and we bought on the website with the QR code sent by email, no app needed.

Sweden plans: 100 MB, 500 MB and 1 GB day plans, 1 GB for 7 days, 3 to 50 GB for 30 days, and unlimited for 3 to 30 days with 3 GB a day at full speed before it slows; the Best Europe 41 and Global 72 regional plans cover Sweden too. Its page names all four Swedish networks, Telia, Tele2, Telenor and Tre, the only provider here that does [11]; the plan names in our comparison tool list Telia, Tele2 and Telenor. A multi-network listing says which networks the eSIM may use, not that it picks the best one by itself, so be ready to select a network manually in the north. The activation window is 90 days and the plan starts on first connection [11]. Hotspot and top-ups are allowed; it is data only. The downsides stand: no app, no Google Pay, the card typed by hand, and no way to top up without Wi-Fi once the data runs out. It suits anyone who wants cheap data and a human to talk to and can live without an app. Our eSIM4Travel review shows the help-desk chat; the Sweden page is at eSIM4Travel.

Airalo eSIM in our hands

Airalo testing outdoor Airalo testing speed 1 Airalo testing speed 2 Airalo testing support

Airalo is the easy, well-known choice that misses more often than the picks above. It worked well for 5 of 6 travelers who reported from Sweden (83%), limited evidence. The successes describe "super fast 5G" across several Swedish cities with help on activation (July 2026), and an easy purchase and install. The miss was a 10-day trip where the eSIM only ever worked in Amsterdam and never in Norway, Denmark or Sweden (July 2026); a second reviewer, counted as worked, says she has trouble connecting in Sweden, Estonia and France. A Saily customer also reported that Airalo stopped working in Stockholm in June 2026.

Sweden plans: the Vän country plans run from 1 GB for 3 days to 50 GB for 30 days, with unlimited for 3 to 30 days at 3 GB a day before it slows; the Discover and Discover+ global plans cover Sweden too, and Discover+ adds a US number with calls and texts. Airalo names Telenor as its Swedish network and says no eKYC (identity check) is needed [12]; independent testers have described the same eSIM as reaching Tele2 and Telenor, so the attribution has moved. Price is at market, never the cheapest. Across all countries Airalo has the weakest traveler record of the 14 providers in our data, while purchase and installation are among the easiest, as our Airalo review shows. It still suits someone who wants calls and a familiar app; the Sweden page is at Airalo.

Ubigi eSIM in our hands

Ubigi testing preview Ubigi testing speed 1 Ubigi testing speed 2 Ubigi testing support

Ubigi has the weakest Swedish record of any provider with three or more reports: it worked well for 9 of 14 travelers who reported from Sweden (64%), limited evidence. The misses are varied and recent: poor and slow internet in central Stockholm (July 2026), a low signal that needed constant resets (August 2026), only an Edge connection on arrival in Sweden and no recovery afterwards (April 2026), one of two identical iPhones that would not activate at Copenhagen airport (July 2026), service that stopped five days after landing, a day with no internet despite full bars, and a Stockholm to Helsinki ferry crossing after which one phone never reconnected. The successes are real too: Iceland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway "without an issue", a very good signal in Denmark and Sweden, and perfect in France and Sweden. The pattern is a connection that works for most people most of the time, then drops at a border or in a city and leaves the traveler stranded, because the help desk is an email ticket: one reviewer found no way to reach anyone, and our own ticket went unanswered for 24 hours.

Sweden plans: 3 GB for 15 days, 10 GB for 7 or 30 days, 50 GB for 30 days, and unlimited for 7, 15 or 30 days with the most explicit fair-use rule here: 20 GB at full speed on the 7-day plan and 30 GB on the 15-day plan, then slowed, with a notification at the threshold [16]; Europe and World plans cover Sweden too, and the activation window is six months [16]. Ubigi did not name its Swedish network on its page when we checked in August 2026 [16]; its replies to reviewers say it has several Swedish partners and that you can lock onto another one by hand, which is the fix to try first. Price is just below market, with the cheapest 30-day unlimited plans in our comparison, and you can buy more data at zero balance. It suits a tech-savvy heavy user who knows how to switch networks, not a first eSIM; our Ubigi review explains the site and app problems, and plans are at Ubigi.

Yesim eSIM in our hands

Yesim testing outdoor Yesim testing speed 1 Yesim testing speed 2 Yesim testing support

Yesim has the lowest success rate on this page: it worked well for 2 of 4 travelers who reported from Sweden (50%), limited evidence. The review texts behind those four reports were not in the set we could read, so we cannot say what the two misses were. Across all countries Yesim's record is about average, with the slowest help desk we tested alongside Ubigi: 15 to 60 minutes per reply, even in office hours.

Sweden plans: 500 MB for one day, 1 to 30 GB for 30 days, unlimited sold by the day from 1 to 30 days with a throttle whose limit Yesim does not publish, plus Europe and Global bundles and a per-MB credit option. Yesim did not name its Swedish network when we checked in August 2026 and says the eSIM switches automatically to whichever local operator has 5G [22]. In our test the plan started counting from the moment of purchase, not from first use, so buy it close to departure or use the "activate later" option. Price is at market for unlimited and dear for fixed plans. It can suit an experienced user who wants an unlimited plan for an odd number of days; our Yesim review covers the plan-start surprise, and the Sweden page is at Yesim.

Global YO eSIM in our hands

Global YO testing outdoor Global YO testing speed 1 Global YO testing speed 2 Global YO testing support

Global YO is the second-cheapest provider in our comparison, but only 2 travelers have reported from Sweden, both positive, which is too few to judge. One used it for a month across Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark and still had 4G in remote Finnish Lapland while companions on other brands lost signal (August 2024). The other ran a Europe plan for his wife, found the data worked automatically, but could not add a week when her 20 GB ran out two days early (July 2024).

Sweden plans: 1 GB for 3 days, 3 and 5 GB for 15 days, 10 and 20 GB for 30 days, 50 GB for 45 days and 100 GB for 60 days, plus day plans and the Europe Explorer and Global Explorer regional plans; no unlimited plan. Global YO says its eSIM gives no phone number, calls run through its in-app VoIP bubble, no ID is required, and some partner networks cap high-speed data at 1 GB a day before slowing [20]; it did not name a Swedish network when we checked in August 2026 [20]. Purchase is app-only, the app dies at zero data, and the help desk sent us a template after ten minutes and nothing useful for half an hour. It suits a price-driven buyer who installs at home and will not need help, as our Global YO review explains; plans are at Global YO.

Roamless has a single Swedish report, which is too few to judge: a month in Europe on the Flex credit plan with a good signal in Stockholm, the Italian countryside and remote France (October 2025). Across all countries it is the third most reliable provider in our data, so the thin Swedish sample is about how few people buy it, not a warning.

Sweden plans: 30-day Sweden plans from 1 to 50 GB, pay-as-you-go credit that never expires, Europe and Global 30-day plans, and a free trial. Roamless says the credit never expires, claims no throttling, and offers in-app calls and an optional second number [18]; third parties report Tele2, Telia and 3 as its Swedish networks, and our comparison tool lists Tele2. In our test the preselected "Roamless" APN did not work until we picked "Proximus Internet" with Wi-Fi off, and a residual trickle at zero balance let us top up without Wi-Fi. Price is at market in popular destinations, cheap for 1 GB and dear above 10 GB. It suits a frequent light user who hops between countries, as our Roamless review describes; the Sweden page is at Roamless.

GoMoWorld eSIM in our hands

GoMoWorld testing preview GoMoWorld testing speed 1 GoMoWorld testing speed 2 GoMoWorld testing support

GoMoWorld has no traveler reports from Sweden yet, so it stays in this group despite the fastest, unthrottled connection we measured in our test (run in Austria) and a tidy native app. The two findings that place it here are practical: nothing happens until you press Start in the app, the most common cause of "it does not work", and humans answer only in office hours, with the bot pointing to Monday morning on a weekend.

Sweden plans: 5 GB for 7 days and 15, 50 or 75 GB for 30 days, at four fixed euro prices used in every country, plus Europe plans from 2.5 to 35 GB; no unlimited plan and no calls. GoMoWorld says no ID is needed, unactivated plans stay valid until you start them, and it uses about two networks per country without naming the Swedish one [21]. The eSIM is never emailed, one account serves one device, and the app dies at zero data. Price is below market overall; in Sweden the 50 and 75 GB plans are where the fixed prices become a bargain. It suits a heavy user who sets the eSIM up before departure; our GoMoWorld review shows the Start button issue, and plans are at GoMoWorld.

ByteSIM eSIM in our hands

ByteSIM testing preview ByteSIM testing speed 1 ByteSIM testing speed 2 ByteSIM testing support

ByteSIM has no traveler reports from Sweden yet, and our hands-on test puts it last of the 14 providers: checkout demanded a phone number and a full postal address, the app threw install errors and auto-activation failed, and the 24/7 WhatsApp help desk had not replied after 15 minutes. Across all countries its traveler record is above average, strongest in East Asia.

The Sweden catalogue is the largest here: daily plans from 500 MB to 10 GB a day for 1 to 30 days, fixed plans from 3 to 300 GB, and unlimited for 1 to 30 days; longer validity costs more. ByteSIM names Telia, Telenor and Tele2 as its Swedish operators and says data drops to a very slow rate after the cap [17]. No top-ups, but more than 50 local payment methods. Price is at market, cheapest for 3 to 5 GB on short trips. It suits an experienced user paying with a local wallet, not a first eSIM, as our ByteSIM review explains; the site is at ByteSIM.

Jetpac has no traveler reports from Sweden yet. Its extras are real: WhatsApp, Maps, Uber and Grab keep working after the data runs out on packs of 3 GB or more, voice packs can be bought in the app, and a flight delay of an hour or more unlocks a free airport lounge. What holds it back in our test is the rough site and app: a slow checkout with misleading buttons, a usage counter that lags, and data that only flowed once we switched the physical SIM off.

Sweden plans: 3, 5 and 10 GB one-day packs, 15 GB for 7 days, 20, 30 and 40 GB for 30 days, and unlimited for 3 to 30 days with 3 GB per 24 hours at full speed before it slows, plus Europe plans. Jetpac's Sweden page named no network when we checked in August 2026 and third-party claims disagree with each other, so the network cell above comes from our comparison tool, which lists Tele2 and Telia. Unactivated packs are kept for three months and the eSIM arrives by email. Price is dear for 3 to 20 GB and at market for unlimited. It suits a frequent flyer who values the lounge and the free messaging apps over polish; our Jetpac review has the details, and plans are at Jetpac.

Providers travelers report from Sweden that we have not tested

Simify appears in the Swedish review texts with an activation hiccup on landing in Stockholm that its help desk talked the reviewer through (August 2026) and a Europe trip where it worked everywhere, but it is not in our report counts and we have not tested it.

Best eSIM Plans for Sweden

Price per GB in Sweden by eSIM Provider

How much does each provider charge per GB in Sweden? The chart below compares plans of 1 to 10 GB that last 6 to 14 days, the usual range for a one- or two-week trip. Provider websites show only their own plans, so this side-by-side view is one you would otherwise have to calculate yourself. A shorter bar means a lower price per GB.

Generated 31.10.2026 09:28

The tables below pick the cheapest plan per provider at each size. Two things to know before you read them. Sweden is cheap-data territory for the two low-cost providers: eSIM4Travel and Global YO sit far below the rest at 10 GB and above, while Saily and GigSky sit at the top at most sizes. And "unlimited" means different things here: 2 GB a day at Nomad, 3 GB at eSIM4Travel and Airalo, 5 GB at Saily and Maya Mobile, 20 GB per week at Ubigi, and a speed cap from the first byte at Holafly. If you need a sense of what 5 GB covers in a week, our guide to what 5 GB is enough for has the arithmetic. Combining Sweden with Norway? Our comparison tool can show plans that cover both countries on one eSIM: compare Sweden and Norway plans, and our Norway eSIM guide has the Norwegian reports.

Best eSIM for Stockholm and Northern Sweden

Stockholm is the only place in Sweden with enough named reports for its own entry; Maya Mobile, the overall pick, has one Stockholm report, and it worked.

Where you are goingWhat the reports showOur pick
StockholmMaya Mobile 1/1, GigSky 2/2, Saily 1/2, Ubigi 2/3, Roamless 1/1Country pick applies (Maya Mobile); Ubigi is the only provider with 3 Stockholm reports and one of them was slow data in the city centre

Best eSIM for Stockholm

For Stockholm the country pick, Maya Mobile, applies, because no provider has a clean record from three or more reports in the city and the two with perfect Stockholm reports (GigSky 2 of 2, Maya Mobile 1 of 1) are already at the top of the country ranking. Ubigi is the only provider with three Stockholm reports, and it is the one not to copy: two travelers were fine, but a third had slow data and gaps in the city centre in July 2026, "not some forest or mountain" as she put it, and a fourth pair activated in Stockholm without trouble only for one phone to die on the ferry to Helsinki. Saily's Stockholm reports split one and one: the one that worked stepped in when Airalo had stopped working in the city (June 2026); the miss was a multi-city tour where the data ran out far too early.

Arrival is where most Stockholm trouble starts. Two reviewers on other providers describe trouble at Copenhagen airport before continuing to Sweden, and a Simify customer needed the help desk to get through activation on landing at Stockholm, so install and test the eSIM on home Wi-Fi before you fly. Nobody reported a problem buying or using an eSIM at Arlanda itself. Inside the city the Nomad, Airalo and GigSky reports all describe 5G and full bars, so the network is not the limit; a provider whose plan starts the moment you buy (Yesim in our test) or whose app needs Wi-Fi to recover (most of them) is.

Northern Sweden and Lapland have no named traveler reports yet, so what follows rests on the network data, not on reviews. PTS counts only 63% of roads and railways as having continuous good-capacity coverage, and a covered spot may belong to a single operator [1]; holiday homes are thinnest of all, with 33% reaching good capacity on both fixed and mobile and 26% in sparsely populated areas [1]. Telia is the network to want there (see the networks section), and Telia is named by eSIM4Travel, Holafly and ByteSIM on their own pages [11] [13] [17], while Nomad's named set is 3 and Tele2 [14]. The nearest thing to field evidence: a Nomad user had a perfect signal in a remote area in winter, and Maya Mobile and Global YO users crossed Lapland with coverage most of the time. Combining the north with Norway or Iceland is common in the reports; our Iceland eSIM guide covers the other end of those trips.

Local SIM Cards and Operator eSIMs in Sweden

A Swedish prepaid SIM is cheap per gigabyte and gives you a Swedish number with free domestic calls, but you cannot use it until the operator has registered your identity, and that is the whole trade-off. Since 1 Aug 2022 every prepaid SIM must be registered with the subscriber's name, address and an identifying number before activation, the operator has to check an identity document or electronic ID and record that it did, and the card does not work until then [2]. BankID, the usual Swedish route, needs a Swedish personal number, so a visitor registers with a passport either online or in person.

Comviq (Tele2 group) is the easiest for a visitor. The SIM itself is free, registration works online through a Veriff photo-ID check or in person at Pressbyrån, 7-Eleven, Circle K and local kiosks, which Comviq says accept foreign ID documents, and the first data session must happen inside Sweden [10]. As of August 2026, Comviq's Fastpris prepaid, with free calls and texts within Sweden, costs 59 kr for 1 GB over 7 days, 159 kr for 5 GB, 199 kr for 10 GB and 249 kr for 20 GB per 30 days, and its Boost add-on gives unlimited data within Sweden for 199 kr per 7 days or 429 kr per 30 days [10]. Prices include Sweden's 25% VAT. Telia sells its prepaid SIM free online or in store, but customers without BankID or a Swedish personal number are told to visit a Telia store with valid ID, and the card expires after 12 months without a top-up [9]; we could not read Telia's current price grid. Telenor sells a prepaid Fastpris card too, but we found its price only on a retailer listing, so we do not quote it, and we could not confirm a current prepaid product from Tre.

Where to buy: operator stores in city centres, Comviq at the convenience chains above, and, by third-party reports, SIM kiosks and vending machines in arrivals at Stockholm Arlanda, Gothenburg Landvetter and Malmö. We could not confirm whether airport prices carry a premium, so do not assume they match the grid above. A Swedish operator eSIM exists at all four operators, but it is the same prepaid subscription under the same registration law, so it saves nothing on paperwork. A local SIM wins when you need a Swedish number for calls, SMS or a local service, or a month of very heavy data; a travel eSIM wins for any trip where you want data working the moment you land, with no ID check and nothing to collect, which is most trips.

Mobile Networks in Sweden

Sweden has four operators but only three physical networks: Telia and Tre (Hi3G) run their own, while Tele2 and Telenor share one through their joint venture Net4Mobility. For a trip that leaves the cities, Telia is the network to want: it won Opensignal's Coverage Experience award in both its January 2025 and December 2025 Sweden reports, according to Opensignal, and it is the only operator that still runs 2G, kept until the end of 2027 [3]. For 5G reach and 5G speed the shared Tele2 and Telenor network leads, with Opensignal naming Telenor Sweden's best network overall and Tele2 the 5G download winner in that December 2025 report. Tre is the weakest choice outside towns: it publishes 5G reach of 80% of the population by registered address [8], against 99.9% claimed by Telia [5], Tele2 [6] and Telenor [7], and it has no 2G layer.

Treat the operators' own percentages as marketing. The regulator's audited figures for November 2025 say just under 90% of Sweden's land area had basic-capacity coverage from any operator, 81% of populated areas had good capacity, and only 63% of public roads and railways had it continuously; and PTS states that these totals count an area as covered when one operator serves it [1]. Tele2 and Telenor claim 90% of the land area each [6] [7], so the gap between 90% and "good capacity on 63% of roads" is the gap you will feel on a long drive.

Which provider rides which network, as of August 2026: eSIM4Travel names all four, Telia, Tele2, Telenor and Tre [11]; Holafly names Tele2, Telia and Telenor [13]; ByteSIM names Telia, Telenor and Tele2 [17]; Airalo names Telenor [12]; Nomad names 3 and Tele2 [14]. Saily, Yesim, Global YO, GoMoWorld, Ubigi, Maya Mobile and GigSky did not name a Swedish network on their pages when we checked; Roamless and Jetpac are placed on Swedish networks only by third parties or by our comparison tool. Two cautions: a page that lists several networks is telling you which ones the wholesale deal permits, not which one your phone will camp on, and independent testing of Airalo's Sweden eSIM found the two networks it reached were not available at the same time, so reaching the faster one meant selecting it by hand in the phone settings. Our guide to eSIMs with several networks and how to switch operator shows the setting. Attributions here are the least stable fact on this page; Nomad's own pages already disagree with each other.

The shutdowns matter for older phones. 3G is gone at all four operators since 2025 and 2G is gone at Tele2, Telenor and Tre since 1 Dec 2025 [3]. PTS found that certain handsets could no longer reach 112 after the shutdown even though they appear to run on 4G, and ordered Tre, Telenor and Tele2 to block them from 2 Feb 2026 [4]. If your phone cannot do VoLTE, a travel eSIM on Telia is the only one of the four that can still fall back to 2G for an emergency call; a modern phone with VoLTE is unaffected. Our 4G vs 5G explainer says what the 5G claims above are worth on a phone.

How to Set Up an eSIM for Sweden

Install at home, on Wi-Fi, days before you fly; almost every plan here starts counting on first connection in Sweden, not on install. The exceptions are Yesim, whose plan started at purchase in our test, GoMoWorld, where nothing happens until you press Start in the app, and some Airalo packages that start on install.

  1. Check your phone. It needs an unlocked phone that can hold an eSIM; iPhones sold in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao mostly lack it, as eSIM4Travel's compatibility list warns [11]. Our list of phones with eSIM support covers the rest.
  2. Buy inside the activation window. eSIM4Travel gives 90 days [11], Saily 180 days [15], Ubigi six months [16], Nomad 60 days on its page but 30 on current plan terms [14], GoMoWorld keeps plans valid until you start them [21], and Jetpac holds unactivated packs for three months.
  3. Install. QR code by email at eSIM4Travel, Airalo, Maya Mobile, Ubigi, Yesim, ByteSIM, Jetpac, Nomad and Holafly; in-app only at Saily, GoMoWorld, Roamless and GigSky, and Global YO needs the app to buy. Follow our iPhone eSIM guide or Samsung eSIM guide, and keep the eSIM switched off until you land.
  4. On landing, switch data roaming on and select the eSIM for mobile data. Check the APN if nothing loads: "globaldata" at Maya Mobile and Global YO, "gigsky" at GigSky, "mobiledata" at Ubigi, "Proximus Internet" at Roamless; a Nomad reviewer in Sweden had to type the APN by hand.
  5. No signal or only Edge? Select another Swedish network manually in the phone settings (Telia first if your provider lists it), toggle airplane mode, and restart; a Ubigi reviewer fixed an arrival failure that way. Jetpac data in our test only flowed once the physical SIM was off.
  6. Still stuck? Our eSIM troubleshooting guide walks through the common faults; a provider with a human help desk (eSIM4Travel, Saily, GigSky) resolves the rest fastest.

Calls and SMS in Sweden

Sweden's calling code is +46, and no travel eSIM on this page gives you a Swedish number: every one is data only or carries a foreign number. Calls to Swedish restaurants, taxis or a landlord go over WhatsApp, Signal or a VoIP app, which every plan here handles. If you need a real number, Airalo's Discover+ global plans include a US number with calls and texts, Saily sells an optional US (+1) number add-on [15], Roamless offers in-app calls and an optional second number [18], Global YO routes calls through its in-app VoIP bubble [20], and Jetpac sells voice packs in its app, though in our test the recipient saw a US number. ByteSIM's local-number plans do not include a Swedish one. Holafly Plans, Saily Ultra and Yesim add numbers that can receive SMS, which is enough for most verification codes.

The alternative is a local prepaid SIM: Comviq's Fastpris includes free calls and texts within Sweden and, from 20 GB up, a bundle of international minutes [10], at the price of the ID registration described above. Whatever you use, 112 is the emergency number, and a phone without VoLTE now needs Telia's network to reach it [4].

Free eSIM Data for Sweden

Several providers here give away a little data that works in Sweden, enough to test the eSIM before buying. GigSky offers 100 MB free worldwide and 500 MB across 42 European countries with no card required [23]; Nomad gives a free 1 GB trial plan, which in Sweden runs for 3 days; Roamless credits new accounts with free data, listed as 700 MB on a 30-day trial in our comparison tool; Jetpac's Eterna eSIM comes with 100 MB; and GoMoWorld offers a free one-day trial. Holafly's "Always On" gives 1 GB a month after a plan ends if you keep the eSIM installed [13]. Our guide to free eSIM data plans compares the trials in detail.

Frequently Asked Questions About eSIMs in Sweden

Which eSIM works best in Sweden?
Maya Mobile had the cleanest record in traveler reports from Sweden, 9 of 9, including weeks of hotspot sharing, and its unlimited plan was the fairest we tested. Nomad has the most reports, 16 of 18, with two misses: one Sweden plan never connected and one connection dropped for half a day. Holafly worked for 7 of 8, but its speed was capped from the start in our test. Compare current prices with (eSIM Comparison).
How much data do I need for Sweden?
It depends on how you use your phone, and the Swedish reports show where people get it wrong. The travelers who ran out early were on 20 GB plans over long multi-country tours, and a remote worker on Nomad's unlimited plan hit its 2 GB daily allowance within a day. Three operators claim 5G for 99.9% of the population, so apps use data freely. For a number based on your own habits, use (Travel Data Calculator).
What is the cheapest eSIM for Sweden?
eSIM4Travel is the cheapest provider in our comparison, in Sweden and across countries, followed by Global YO, and both are far cheaper at 10 GB and above. Saily and GigSky are among the most expensive at most sizes. For unlimited data, Maya Mobile's global plan is the cheapest option of its kind by a wide margin. The live plan tables above show today's prices, or filter them with (eSIM Comparison).
Can I buy a Sweden SIM card for tourists at the airport?
Yes, but you cannot use it until the operator has registered your identity, which has been law for every Swedish prepaid SIM since August 2022. Comviq registers foreign passports online or at convenience chains, and Telia sends visitors without a Swedish ID to its stores. SIM kiosks at Arlanda, Landvetter and Malmö are reported by third parties, and we could not confirm their prices. A travel eSIM needs no registration.
Does an eSIM work in Swedish Lapland and the north?
Yes in towns and on main roads, with gaps in between: the regulator counts only 63% of roads and railways as having continuous good coverage, and a covered spot may belong to one operator only. Telia has the widest reach, so an eSIM that names Telia (eSIM4Travel, Holafly, ByteSIM) is the safer choice there. Nomad and Maya Mobile users reported coverage most of the time on winter trips north, with no reports yet from named places.
Can I make calls with a Sweden eSIM?
Not from a Swedish number: every travel eSIM for Sweden is data only or carries a foreign number, so calls go over WhatsApp or a VoIP app. Airalo's Discover+ plans and Saily's add-on give a US number, Roamless and Global YO offer in-app calling, and Jetpac sells voice packs. A Comviq prepaid SIM includes free calls within Sweden once you have registered with ID. The emergency number is 112.
Will my phone work in Sweden after the 2G and 3G shutdown?
A phone that can do 4G calling (VoLTE) works as before. Sweden's 3G networks closed during 2025 and Tele2, Telenor and Tre have no 2G either, so an older phone without VoLTE may be unable to call 112 on their networks and can be blocked from them since February 2026. Telia keeps 2G running until the end of 2027. If your phone is old, an eSIM that names Telia is the safer choice.

Summary: the best eSIM for Sweden

Based on 71 traveler reports from Sweden and our hands-on tests, we recommend Maya Mobile for most trips: it worked well for 9 of 9 travelers, its global unlimited plan slowed only after about 5 GB a day in our test, and the one caveat is region-locked Swedish apps on a foreign exit point. GigSky (5 of 5) is the choice for a Stockholm trip combined with Copenhagen or Oslo, with an app that tops up at zero balance, but it is dear in many countries. Saily (4 of 4) is the choice for a first eSIM, with the smoothest app and help desk in our test, at a high price and with a hard data cut. Nomad (16 of 18) suits Scandinavia bundles and winter trips, as long as you will not need its help desk, which has no human behind the bot.

Holafly (7 of 8) fits a long stay on unlimited data, with its speed capped from the start in our test and a 1 GB-a-day hotspot limit. eSIM4Travel has no traveler reports from Sweden yet but is the cheapest provider in our comparison, names all four Swedish networks and put a human on the help desk in one click in our test, at the cost of having no app. Whichever provider you use, install it on Wi-Fi before you fly, and if your trip goes north, prefer a provider that names Telia. That is the best eSIM for Sweden in 2026: one that works the moment you land, with no Swedish ID registration to clear.
