Best eSIM for Algeria in 2026: 14 Providers Ranked by Traveler Reports

Best eSIM Algeria
Key Takeaways

Key takeaways

Based on 12 traveler reports from Algeria and our tests, no eSIM has a strong record here yet, and the two providers with enough reports mostly missed: Maya Mobile worked well for 1 of 5 travelers and sells only a global unlimited plan, while Nomad worked well for 0 of 3 and uses the Ooredoo network. eSIM4Travel is usually the cheapest in our comparison and had the best help desk in our test, but has no Algeria reports yet. Coverage guides favor the Mobilis network for the south.

The best eSIM for Algeria depends on where you go, and the traveler record is thin: we counted 12 reports in total, and the two providers with enough of them mostly failed. Signal is solid on the northern belt from Algiers to Oran, Constantine and Annaba. It thins out in the Grands Ergs, around Tamanrasset and Djanet, and in the Djurdjura and Aurès valleys, according to one eSIM provider's own coverage guide.

Registration rules limit the alternatives. Algeria's regulator requires an operator to confirm you are present at a point of sale and to check a valid ID before it activates a SIM [2]. Third-party guides reported in May and August 2026 that no Algerian operator sold an eSIM to the public. In practice, a travel eSIM is the only way to have data the moment you land.

Two more facts change the choice. All three operators have sales points at the Algiers and Oran airports, but one 2024 guide says the Algiers shops are cash only and close at 20:00, and we could not re-check that. And Mobilis, the network coverage guides favor for the south, is listed on its own pages by only three of the providers we compare. Install your eSIM at home before you fly. The networks section below explains which operator each provider uses.

Best eSIM Providers for Algeria

eSIM plans in Algeria at a glance

How well each provider's eSIM works in Algeria

The Vefru score is our overall rating of the provider. The percentage shows how many reviewers said their eSIM worked well in Algeria. Since unhappy customers review more often, it is best used to compare providers with each other.

How we got these numbers: we counted 12 public customer reports that mention Algeria or a place in it, and counted a report as "worked" when the reviewer said the eSIM connected, even with small hiccups. The one review we hold in full text is from July 2026. We treat 20 or more reports as strong evidence, 3 to 19 as limited, and fewer than 3 as too few to judge. A count like 1 of 5 means the eSIM worked well for 1 of the 5 travelers who reported from here; each provider section says what we know about the rest. The Vefru test score is a separate number: our own hands-on test of the provider, run outside Algeria, so it says how the provider behaves, not how the network performs here. Local operator prices in the text were checked on 25 September 2026; provider ratings, the plan tables and the price-per-GB chart are live and update on their own.

We build the Best group from coverage first, price second and our own tests third. Algeria's data is thin: only Maya Mobile and Nomad have 3 or more reports, and both mostly missed, so this group is a short list ranked by the evidence, not an endorsement. eSIM4Travel is in it for its price and help desk, although it has no Algeria reports yet.

Maya Mobile eSIM in our hands

Maya Mobile testing preview Maya Mobile testing speed 1 Maya Mobile testing speed 2 Maya Mobile testing support

Maya Mobile has the most traveler reports of any provider for Algeria, and the record is weak: it worked well for 1 of 5 travelers who reported from Algeria (20%, limited evidence). It sells only a global unlimited plan, so it suits longer trips or heavy data across several countries more than a short stay in Algeria. One of the misses was reported from Tébessa, in the north-east.

We could not read the review texts behind the four misses, so we cannot say whether the cause was signal, activation or settings. In our test, Maya needed the APN (the access-point name, a setting in your phone's network menu) entered by hand as "globaldata" and roaming switched on. A missed setting is one possible cause, but the reports do not say.

Our comparison tool lists eight global unlimited plans that include Algeria, for 3, 7, 14 and 30 days, with or without cruise coverage, and no Algeria-only or fixed-size plans. Full speed lasts until a daily allowance of 5 GB, then speed drops. Hotspot and top-ups are allowed. Maya's own coverage page lists Mobilis and Ooredoo for Algeria (checked September 2026), which matters because Mobilis is the network guides favor for the south. It is the cheapest global unlimited plan in our price analysis, but it sells nothing for small needs. In our test, the WhatsApp help desk reached a human after a form, and the agent could not see our eSIM status. See the Maya Mobile site for current plans.

Nomad eSIM in our hands

Nomad testing preview Nomad testing speed 1 Nomad testing speed 2 Nomad testing support

Nomad suits travelers who can solve problems alone, but its Algeria record is weak: it worked well for 0 of 3 travelers who reported from Algeria (0%, limited evidence). A separate area-level report from northern Algeria was positive (1 of 1), which is too few to change the picture. We could not read the review texts behind the three misses, so the cause is unknown.

Nomad's plan is listed as Ooredoo in our comparison tool, and Nomad's own page names Ooredoo too (checked September 2026). Ooredoo was the fastest network in nPerf's 2026 barometer, but coverage guides recommend Mobilis for the south, so a trip beyond the northern belt is the more likely place for a miss. That is a possible reading, not something the reports state.

Nomad sells six Algeria plans, from 1 GB for 7 days to 50 GB for 30 days, on 4G, with 30 days to activate and add-on data on some plans. It has no unlimited plan and no calls for Algeria. The app is good, with a home-screen widget that shows remaining data. Support was the weak point in our test: the AI bot looped and offered no route to a human. Price sits close to the market average. Nomad is available from the Nomad site.

eSIM4Travel is usually the cheapest provider in our comparison and suits price-driven travelers who install at home and can live without an app. It has no traveler reports from Algeria yet, so we cannot say how it performs here. Its Vefru test score is the highest of the 14 providers compared here, but we tested it outside Algeria.

No misses are reported. In our test, the eSIM installed from an emailed QR code and worked right away, and the help desk was the best we tested: one click from the bot to a person who solved the problem. Its drawbacks are the lack of an app, no Google Pay in our test, and no way to buy more data without Wi-Fi once the data runs out.

Our comparison tool lists 15 Algeria plans, from 0.1 GB to 50 GB (1-day, 7-day and 30-day plans), unlimited plans for 3 to 20 days flagged as throttled, and an Africa regional plan. eSIM4Travel's Algeria page lists Djezzy/Ooredoo on 4G, LTE and 3G with no 5G, hotspot, and 90 days to activate [7]. Single-carrier Djezzy and Ooredoo variants also exist. Neither is Mobilis, so coverage in the far south is the open question. The full hands-on test covers the help desk. Plans are on the eSIM4Travel Algeria page.

Ubigi suits tech-savvy travelers who need data in the mountains and will not need the help desk. It has one traveler report from Algeria and it worked well (1 of 1, too few to judge). A traveler who used a 10 GB pack in July 2026 installed it at home a day before departure and wrote on 24 July 2026 that "as soon as we landed, I had the data working". The reviewer also reported a good connection in the Djebala mountains above Nedroma, a remote area.

The reviewer said the eSIM could use both Ooredoo and Mobilis. Ubigi's own page lists Mobilis only, with no 5G (checked September 2026), so the network label is not settled.

Our comparison tool lists seven Algeria plans: 1, 3, 10 and 25 GB for 7, 15 or 30 days, plus unlimited plans for 8 and 15 days with no throttling flag. There is no 5 GB or 20 GB plan. Fixed data is priced around the market average. Ubigi was the weakest on help in our hands-on test, where an email ticket went unanswered for 24 hours, but it was one of two apps that let us buy more data with a zero balance. Plans are on the Ubigi site.

Holafly suits travelers who do not want to think about data, and it has one traveler report from Algeria that worked well (1 of 1, too few to judge). In our test, Holafly's speed was capped from the start. That is enough for maps, messaging, browsing and streaming, and slow for large downloads, uploads, cloud backups and laptop work. Hotspot is limited to 1 GB a day and there are no top-ups: you buy a new eSIM when it runs out.

Holafly's own page lists Djezzy/Ooredoo for Algeria, but a partner page and a third-party guide give other names, including Mobilis, so we treat the network as unconfirmed (as of September 2026). Holafly's own guide says signal is weak and unstable in deserts and mountains. Its page lists unlimited plans from 1 to 30 days, but our comparison tool had no Holafly plan for Algeria when we exported the data, so there is no plan table here. Holafly is unlimited-only, usually priced above other unlimited plans. We cover the app and install in our Holafly test. Check the Holafly Algeria page for current plans.

Its page names no network, only "top Algerian networks" (checked September 2026). In our test it was the fastest provider and showed no throttling. You must press Start in the app or nothing happens, which is a common reason travelers think it is broken, and the eSIM is app-only, one account per device. Human help is limited to office hours. ByteSIM's page lists Djezzy/Ooredoo on 4G/LTE (checked September 2026) and bundles with minutes and 50 SMS. There are no top-ups and no ID is needed. Price sits at the market average and looks cheaper on short trips. Experienced users who want calling bundles may still like it. Our ByteSIM test covers the checkout and the 180-day refund rule. Plans are on the ByteSIM site.

Airalo suits beginners and travelers who want calls and texts, and it has no traveler reports from Algeria yet. It had the lowest reliability record of the 14 providers in our wider review of traveler reports from other countries, so that history is a reason for caution until Algeria reports arrive.

Our comparison tool lists 17 Algeria plans: 1, 3, 5, 10 and 20 GB for 3 to 30 days, plus unlimited plans that slow after 3 GB a day. Its page lists Ooredoo as the main network and one unnamed second network (checked September 2026). Regional Discover+ plans that include Algeria add voice and text. Price is at the market average and never the cheapest. Our Airalo test found the install quick and the help desk average. Plans are on the Airalo Algeria page.

Jetpac is not a top pick here: it has no traveler reports from Algeria yet, and our test found a rough app and purchase flow. We could not confirm its Algeria network (the research found none rendered on its page). Frequent flyers who want in-app voice packs may still like it.

Our comparison tool lists seven Algeria plans, from 1 GB to 30 GB, all 4G only, plus Africa and global plans marked 5G. Jetpac keeps WhatsApp, Maps, Uber and Grab free after data runs out on packs of 3 GB or more, but Uber is not available in Algeria, according to one provider's guide. Price is dearer than average for mid-size plans. Our Jetpac test has the rest. Plans are on the Jetpac site.

Best eSIM Plans for Algeria

Price per GB in Algeria by eSIM Provider

How much does each provider charge per GB in Algeria? The chart below compares plans of 1 to 10 GB that last 6 to 14 days, the usual range for a one- or two-week trip. Provider websites show only their own plans, so this side-by-side view is one you would otherwise have to calculate yourself. A shorter bar means a lower price per GB.

Generated 07.11.2026 08:38

Plan sizes vary a lot for Algeria. Fixed plans start below 1 GB at several providers and reach 100 GB at Global YO and Roamless, with validities from 1 to 60 days. Unlimited plans for Algeria are sold by Airalo, ByteSIM, eSIM4Travel, Ubigi and Yesim, plus GigSky's 1-day pass and Maya's global plans. Most throttle after a daily allowance, and Ubigi's two unlimited plans carry no throttling flag in our tool. Holafly's page lists unlimited plans, but our tool had none for Algeria. To size your plan, use our guide to how much data you need.

Best eSIM for Northern Algeria, Nedroma and the Sahara

No place in Algeria has 3 or more traveler reports, so we cannot name a pick for any place from reports alone. The only city-level report for Maya Mobile, the first provider in our order, is a miss in Tébessa.

Where you are goingWhat the reports showOur pick
Nedromatoo few reports (Ubigi 1/1)No pick, too few reports
Djebala mountainstoo few reports (Ubigi 1/1)No pick, too few reports
Tébessatoo few reports (Maya Mobile 0/1)No pick, too few reports
Northern Algeria (area)too few reports (Nomad 1/1)No pick, too few reports
Algiers, Oran, Constantine, Annaba, Sétifno traveler reportsNo pick from reports. All three networks cover this belt, and Ooredoo was fastest in nPerf's 2026 barometer
Sahara and the southno traveler reportsNo pick from reports. Network evidence points to Mobilis, which Global YO, Ubigi and Maya Mobile list

The one telling report is Ubigi's: a traveler in July 2026 had data on landing and a good connection in the Djebala mountains above Nedroma, a remote area. One report cannot rank a provider, but it shows an eSIM listing Mobilis can work in the mountains.

For the south, we have network evidence instead of reports. Coverage guides recommend Mobilis for the southern wilayas and rural areas, and Opensignal's 2023 survey put Mobilis first for coverage experience. No 2026 measurement confirms it. The guides also say signal thins across the Grands Ergs, the Tademaït plateau, the Trans-Sahara Highway, the Hoggar and Tassili near Tamanrasset and Djanet, and in rail tunnels. Providers that list Mobilis on their own pages are Global YO, Ubigi and Maya Mobile. The Saharan tourist season runs October to April, according to Algerian tourism ministry figures reported in the press.

Local SIM Cards and Operator eSIMs in Algeria

A local SIM beats a travel eSIM on price per GB when you can register in person, and loses when you land at night, travel for a few days, or want data before you reach a shop. No Algerian operator sold an eSIM to the public as of May 2026, according to Zoom Algérie, and SimSwift reported in August 2026 that local eSIMs still need a store visit. Treat both as reports we could not confirm with the operators.

Registration is strict. The regulator's 2026 decision requires the operator to confirm you are present at a point of sale, check valid ID and verify that a foreigner's stay is lawful [2]. Holafly's SIM guide says to bring a passport valid for at least six months, plus your visa. SIMs cost 200 to 500 DA, according to Zoom Algérie and Welcome2Algeria (May 2026); taxes on top we could not confirm. Shops are Ooredoo Espaces and City Shops, Djezzy shops, Mobilis agencies, and all three operators at the Algiers and Oran airports. One 2024 guide says the Algiers airport shops open 07:00 to 20:00 and take cash only, which we could not re-check.

Prices as of September 2026: Ooredoo's 30-day forfaits cost 500 DA for 6 GB, 1,000 DA for 15 GB plus 5 GB of YouTube and 1,500 DA for 40 GB plus unlimited YouTube [4]. Mobilis 4G passes cost 500 DA for 4 GB over 7 days, 1,000 DA for 10 GB and 2,000 DA for 25 GB over 30 days [3]. Djezzy's prepaid Hayla Bezzef packs cost 1,200 to 2,000 DA for about 10 to 30 GB, and Hayla Maxi 1,200 to 2,000 DA for 20 to 60 GB, according to NeoDZ and Welcome2Algeria (May 2026); we could not open Djezzy's own page. At the official rate of about 130 DZD per USD (November 2025), Ooredoo's 40 GB pack is roughly US$11.50 and Djezzy's 60 GB pack roughly US$15.40. In our September 2026 research check, travel eSIMs of comparable size cost more per GB. Mobilis 5G plans reportedly need activation in an agency.

Mobile Networks in Algeria

Algeria has three mobile networks, Mobilis, Djezzy and Ooredoo, and the best one depends on the trip. In the third quarter of 2025 they held 41.97%, 31.75% and 26.29% of more than 55.9 million subscribers, and 89.56% of all subscribers were on 4G [1]. Mobilis has the largest share still on 3G, more than 10% of its base [1]. We found no 3G shutdown date.

For speed, Ooredoo was fastest in nPerf's 2026 barometer, and Opensignal's February 2026 survey agrees. Djezzy had the best latency. Mobilis was third on speed, though it won Opensignal's 2023 coverage-experience ranking and coverage guides recommend it for the south. For 5G, Ooredoo says it covers all 58 wilayas since March 2026 [6], with a wilaya selector on its 5G page [5], though Ecofin Agency reports that does not mean everyone can use it yet. Djezzy reportedly covers 18 wilayas and Mobilis about 18 after July 2026. For a visitor, plan on 4G: only Roamless states 5G on its Algeria page, and Ubigi and eSIM4Travel state none.

Which provider rides which network, according to each provider's own page in September 2026: Ooredoo for Nomad, Airalo (plus one unnamed) and Maya; Djezzy for Roamless; Djezzy/Ooredoo for ByteSIM and eSIM4Travel [7]; Mobilis for Global YO and Ubigi, and Mobilis and Ooredoo for Maya. Holafly's label conflicts across sources. Saily, Yesim and GoMoWorld name no network, and we could not confirm Jetpac's. Jetpac's network shows as unknown in the research, so check before buying.

The baccalauréat exams in June have brought internet restrictions. In 2026 (7 to 11 June), Algerian press reported no nationwide cut, only restrictions at exam centres. In 2025, social networks were blocked during exam hours and 4G slowed. Whether the 2026 approach holds in 2027 is not yet known. Read our 4G versus 5G explainer if you want to know whether 5G matters, and our guide to multi-network eSIMs for switching operator.

How to Set Up an eSIM for Algeria

Install your eSIM at home, before you fly. Almost every plan starts on first connection, so installing early does not use up days, and it let the Ubigi traveler have data the moment the plane landed. Exceptions: our Yesim plan started at purchase, and GoMoWorld needs a manual Start.

  1. Check your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, then buy the plan. Some providers need their app to buy: GoMoWorld, Saily, Roamless, GigSky and Global YO.
  2. Install from the emailed QR code, or inside the app. Activation windows differ: eSIM4Travel gives 90 days [7], Nomad 60 days, Saily 180 days, Ubigi 6 months. Our guides cover iPhone installs and Samsung installs.
  3. On landing, switch on data roaming and select the eSIM line for mobile data. Every provider page we checked requires roaming on.
  4. Enter the APN by hand if data does not flow: Maya and Global YO use "globaldata", and our Roamless test needed a manual choice.
  5. Download offline maps before the Sahara. Most apps stop working at 0 data, except GigSky and Ubigi, which let you buy more without Wi-Fi. Uber is not available in Algeria, so Yassir is the ride app, according to one provider's guide.
  6. If it fails, work through our troubleshooting guide.

Calls and SMS in Algeria

Algeria's calling code is +213, and most travel eSIMs are data only, so calls go over a messaging app. Our comparison tool shows voice and text only on Airalo's regional Discover+ plans, which also cover Algeria. Other providers sell extras: Jetpac in-app voice packs, Roamless in-app calls and a second number, Global YO outgoing in-app calls, and Saily a US number that works in Algeria. ByteSIM's page lists bundles with minutes and 50 SMS (checked September 2026). Nomad has calling plans only for other countries.

For a local number, a prepaid SIM bought in person is the route. Djezzy's Hayla prepaid packs reportedly include unlimited Djezzy calls and SMS, according to NeoDZ and Welcome2Algeria (May 2026).

Free eSIM Data for Algeria

Three providers list a free trial that works in Algeria. GoMoWorld and GigSky each give a 100 MB trial, and Roamless lists a free trial plan for Algeria in our comparison tool (as of September 2026). They are enough to test whether the eSIM connects before you fly. More free options are in our free eSIM guide.

Frequently Asked Questions About eSIMs in Algeria

Which eSIM works best in Algeria?
No eSIM has a strong record in Algeria yet. Only 12 traveler reports exist: Maya Mobile worked well for 1 of 5 travelers and Nomad for 0 of 3, and we could not read why. Global YO, Ubigi and Holafly each have one positive report, which is too few to judge. Compare current plans for Algeria. (eSIM Comparison)
What is the cheapest eSIM for Algeria?
eSIM4Travel is usually the cheapest in our comparison, and Global YO is usually second, but neither has more than one traveler report from Algeria and eSIM4Travel has none, so low price here is not yet backed by a track record in the country. Prices change, so the live comparison is the reliable check. (eSIM Comparison)
How much data do I need for Algeria?
It depends on your habits. Maps, messaging and social media use far less than streaming or video calls. A trip through the Sahara, where Wi-Fi is scarce, argues for a larger plan with offline maps downloaded first. For a number based on your own habits, try the calculator. (Travel Data Calculator)
Can tourists buy a local SIM card in Algeria?
Yes, but only in person with a valid ID. The rules require the operator to confirm you are at a point of sale and to check your identity and lawful stay, and third-party guides say no operator sold an eSIM to the public as of May 2026. The airports sell SIMs, though the Algiers shops reportedly take cash only.
Which network is best for an Algeria eSIM in the Sahara?
Mobilis is the network coverage guides most often recommend for the south, but no 2026 measurement confirms it. Ooredoo was fastest in nPerf's 2026 barometer and Djezzy had the best latency. Global YO, Ubigi and Maya Mobile list Mobilis on their own pages as of September 2026. Compare the plans from each. (eSIM Comparison)
Can I call a local number with an Algeria eSIM?
Most travel eSIMs are data only, so calls go over a messaging app. Airalo's Discover+ regional plans include voice and text, and some providers sell in-app calling or SMS numbers. A local prepaid SIM bought in person with ID is the way to get a local number; the calls section above has the details.

Summary: the best eSIM for Algeria

Based on 12 traveler reports and our tests, Algeria has no clear winner. Maya Mobile has the most reports and worked well for 1 of 5 travelers, so it suits long multi-country trips with heavy data but carries a weak record here and sells nothing small. Nomad worked well for 0 of 3 and has the best app in this group, but its help desk was unreachable in our test. eSIM4Travel is usually the cheapest and had the best help desk, with no Algeria reports and no app.

For the best eSIM for Algeria today, the evidence supports a short list rather than a single name. Global YO and Ubigi each have one positive report and list Mobilis, the network guides favor for the south, so they are the providers to watch as reports arrive. For the Sahara, a local SIM bought in person with ID is the stronger option on network evidence and price per GB.
