Best eSIM for Albania in 2026: 14 Providers Ranked by Traveler Reports

Best eSIM Albania
Key Takeaways

Key takeaways

Based on 106 traveler reports from Albania and our tests, the best option for most trips is Nomad: it worked well for 22 of 23 travelers who reported from Albania, with one dead eSIM and small-town signal drops. Maya Mobile (19 of 24) suits Balkan road trips on one unlimited plan, though five had no signal or slow data. Yesim (9 of 9) sells unlimited by the day, with the slowest help desk we tested. eSIM4Travel (7 of 7) is usually the cheapest here, with a human help desk, but no app. ByteSIM (4 of 4) suits short trips with fast WhatsApp help, but its checkout and app were the clumsiest tested.

The best eSIM for Albania is one that rides both local networks, because Albania has only two: Vodafone Albania and One Albania, and travel guides place Vodafone ahead in the mountains while One has the wider 5G footprint. About 70% of the country is mountainous, and third-party guides report hours without signal on the Theth to Valbona pass, on long stretches of the Peaks of the Balkans trail and on the Lake Koman ferry. A provider that can fall back to the second network matters more here than in most of Europe.

Three things catch travelers out. First, Albania is outside the EU roam-like-at-home area, and the Western Balkans free-roaming zone only applies to SIMs issued by local operators, not to travel eSIMs. Second, several "Europe" eSIMs skip Albania: Holafly's Europe plan excludes it [8], Saily's 35-country Europe plan runs from Austria to the UK without it [10], and one GoMoWorld customer bought a Europe plan and only then found Albania was missing. Third, a third-party guide collects repeated reports of new travel eSIMs failing to register inside the Tirana airport terminal, and the reports we read show the same: two of the three arrival-day failures in this article happened at or just after landing in Tirana.

Local SIMs need registration with a passport, and both operators sell tourist packs at Tirana airport, so a local SIM is a real option for longer stays. We read 106 traveler reports, our hands-on tests of all 14 providers, both operators' tourist pages and the regulator's data to work out which eSIM holds up where.

Best eSIM Providers for Albania

eSIM plans in Albania at a glance

How well each provider's eSIM works in Albania

The Vefru score is our overall rating of the provider. The percentage shows how many reviewers said their eSIM worked well in Albania. Since unhappy customers review more often, it is best used to compare providers with each other.

How we got these numbers: we read 106 public customer reviews that mention Albania or a place in it, published between March 2024 and August 2026, and counted a report as "worked" when the reviewer said the eSIM connected, even with small hiccups. We treat 20 or more reports as strong evidence, 3 to 19 as limited, and fewer than 3 as too few to judge. A count like 22 of 23 means the eSIM worked well for 22 of the 23 travelers who reported from here; each provider section says what went wrong for the rest. The Vefru test score is a separate number: our own hands-on test of the provider, run outside Albania, so it says how the provider behaves, not how the network performs here. Local operator prices in the text were checked on 25 Sep 2026; provider ratings, the plan tables and the price-per-GB chart are live and update on their own.

Nomad eSIM in our hands

Nomad testing preview Nomad testing speed 1 Nomad testing speed 2 Nomad testing support

Nomad is the best option for most trips to Albania because it has the strongest record here by a wide margin: it worked well for 22 of 23 travelers who reported from Albania (96%), strong evidence. The successes cover Tirana, 15-day stays, a two-week trip that mixed Albania and Kosovo, and the Balkans regional plan across North Macedonia, Montenegro and Albania. Reviewers describe fast activation and "excellent" speed, and one calls it the only app that puts Albania and North Macedonia in one Balkan region.

The one counted miss is a July 2026 report that the eSIM did not work at all, with no place or cause given. Two 3-star reviews worked but with gaps: a traveler in Tirana and Kashar had no network at the hotel and lost turn-by-turn directions outside the centre, and another on a Balkans loop saw moments with only 2G or 3G, though Albania was not among the countries where that bit. The pattern is signal drops in small towns, not dead eSIMs. "Used for 15 days in Albania. Worked great." (4 May 2026) is the typical report.

What sets Nomad apart here is two networks: its Albania page names Vodafone and One, with Vodafone as the primary network [11], so it can fall back when one drops. In our comparison tool it sells Albania plans of 1 GB (3 or 7 days) and 3 to 50 GB for 30 days, unlimited for 3, 5, 7 or 10 days at 2 GB a day before the speed drops, plus Balkans and Global plans that include Albania. There is no Europe plan covering Albania in the tool. Its price position is slightly below the market average, and its app has a home-screen widget for remaining data. The main drawback is the help desk: in our test the bot looped and never handed us to a person, as our Nomad review describes, so it suits travelers who can fix an APN or roaming setting themselves. Plans come from Nomad.

Maya Mobile eSIM in our hands

Maya Mobile testing preview Maya Mobile testing speed 1 Maya Mobile testing speed 2 Maya Mobile testing support

Maya Mobile is the pick for a multi-country Balkan trip on unlimited data, because its one global plan covers Albania and every neighbour, and because it has the second-largest record here: it worked well for 19 of 24 travelers who reported from Albania (79%), strong evidence. The successes include Tirana airport, the road to Durrës and the city itself, 3-day city breaks, a Montenegro and Albania trip on the Balkan package, and "good reception even in remote places" (21 Oct 2024). Several reviewers single out the easy install and quick refunds.

The five misses are the real caveat. Two travelers got no signal at all (one on a Balkan package in July 2025, one on a Europe plan in August 2025), one had 3G but nothing faster in Albania and Montenegro in October 2025, one was stuck with no network and waited close to 10 hours for the live chat in March 2025, and one simply reported the eSIM did not work in February 2025. A further 3-star review from July 2024 describes slow data and hours of dropped connection near big cities. Maya refunded in most of these cases, which is why the reviews still read as fair, but the failure rate is the highest in the Best group.

Maya sells only one product: a global unlimited plan for 3, 7, 14 or 30 days, with a Global + Cruise variant, 5 GB a day at full speed before it slows, hotspot included and auto top-up pushed in the app. There is no Albania-only plan and nothing shorter than 3 days, so it is poor value for a one-day stop. It does not name its Albanian network. Its price position is the cheapest global unlimited in our comparison by a wide margin. In our test the eSIM installed in two minutes and showed no throttling before the daily allowance; the WhatsApp help desk needed a five-step form before a person answered, as our Maya Mobile review shows. Plans come from Maya Mobile.

Yesim eSIM in our hands

Yesim testing outdoor Yesim testing speed 1 Yesim testing speed 2 Yesim testing support

Yesim is the choice for unlimited data on a short trip, because it sells unlimited by the day and has a clean record: it worked well for 9 of 9 travelers who reported from Albania (100%), limited evidence. None of the nine reports describes a failure, a slow connection or a setup problem in Albania, so there is no pattern to warn about; the sample is simply smaller than Nomad's or Maya's.

The caveats come from our hands-on test rather than from Albania. Yesim's help desk was among the slowest we tested, with 15 minutes to an hour between replies even in office hours. Our plan also started at purchase rather than on first connection, which varies by plan, so it pays to buy close to the trip or use the "activate later" option. The app nags with surveys and upsells, and it dies at zero data, as our Yesim review describes.

In our comparison tool Yesim sells Albania unlimited for any length from 1 to 30 days, fixed plans of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 30 GB for 30 days, a 500 MB one-day plan, and Balkans and Global bundles that include Albania. The fair-use limit on unlimited is not published. Yesim does not name its network for Albania. Its fixed plans sit above the market average in our price analysis while its unlimited plans sit at market, so it makes most sense for unlimited. Plans come from Yesim.

eSIM4Travel eSIM in our hands

eSIM4Travel testing outdoor eSIM4Travel testing speed 1 eSIM4Travel testing speed 2 eSIM4Travel testing support

eSIM4Travel is the pick for anyone who wants the lowest price without giving up a help desk: it is usually the cheapest provider in our comparison, and it worked well for 7 of 7 travelers who reported from Albania (100%), limited evidence. The successes describe a 10 GB plan that held up "even in the other regions of the country", a 1 GB plan bought while already in Albania, an eSIM installed at home that activated on landing in Tirana, and a family trip that covered Türkiye and Albania. Two reviewers praise the help desk for walking them through phone settings, twice, with screenshots.

There are no misses to report. The only wrinkle in the reviews is a traveler who renewed for 1 day instead of 7 by mistake; the help desk refunded it quickly. That matches our own test, where the bot handed us to a person in one click and the person solved the problem, the best help desk result of the 14 providers, as our eSIM4Travel review shows.

Its Albania page now names both One and Vodafone [12], and the plans in our comparison tool carry "One, Vodafone" in their names. The ladder runs from 100 MB and 500 MB day plans through 1 GB (1 or 7 days) and 3 to 50 GB (7 or 30 days) to unlimited for 3 to 30 days at 3 GB a day before it slows, plus a Best Europe 41 regional plan that includes Albania. Hotspot is allowed, validity starts on first connection, and there is a 90-day activation window [12]. The drawbacks are structural: no app, no Google Pay, and no way to reach the shop to top up once the data runs out unless you find Wi-Fi. Plans come from eSIM4Travel.

ByteSIM eSIM in our hands

ByteSIM suits a short Albania trip where you want a cheap daily plan and a help desk that answers on WhatsApp: it worked well for 4 of 4 travelers who reported from Albania (100%), limited evidence. All four reports are from 2024 and all four mention the help desk: a resend of the confirmation email sorted in five minutes, "user error" fixed over WhatsApp chat, and "minor issues" resolved almost at once. One reviewer calls it great value compared with the eSIM offers at the airport. "Data works with no issues in Albania." (7 Jul 2024) sums up the connection side.

No report describes a miss, so the drawbacks come from our own test, and they are the reason ByteSIM sits last in the Best group rather than higher. The checkout demanded a phone number and full postal address, the app is a wrapped website whose auto-activation failed for us, and the WhatsApp help desk that answered Albania travelers within minutes did not answer us in 15 minutes. Manual install worked and the connection came up in about a minute, as our ByteSIM review describes. There are no top-ups: when a plan runs out you buy a new one.

ByteSIM names Vodafone Albania in the title of its Albania page. Its catalogue in our comparison tool is the largest for Albania: 500 MB-a-day plans for 1 to 30 days, fixed plans from 500 MB to 90 GB for 1 to 30 days, and unlimited for 1 to 30 days with no published fair-use cap. There are no regional plans that cover Albania. Its price position is around the market average, cheaper for short trips because longer validity costs more. Plans come from ByteSIM.

These nine providers passed our hands-on tests, but each one has fewer Albania reports than the Best group, a weaker record here, or a finding against it. GigSky, Holafly and Airalo are worth a look for specific needs; the rest have too few reports from Albania to judge.

GigSky worked well for 3 of 3 travelers who reported from Albania (100%), limited evidence, and nothing in the reports counts against it. One reviewer used it across Serbia, North Macedonia and Albania and reported "Albania: worked great" (27 Jul 2024), another across Albania, Greece, Portugal and the UK, and a third in August 2026 praises the app and says the service never dropped. Three reports are too few to rank it above providers with 20.

In our comparison tool GigSky sells Albania plans of 1 GB (7 days), 3 GB (15 days), 5 and 10 GB (30 days) and a 1-day unlimited pass, plus Cruise and World plans that include Albania. Its page says it connects to the fastest available network and names none, and its own pages give two different daily caps for unlimited, so we could not confirm either. Its price position is the most expensive of the 14 providers overall, though its entry plans are cheap, and its app is the one that stays online at zero data so you can buy more without Wi-Fi, as our GigSky review shows. It suits a cruise or a mixed Balkan and Greek-island trip more than a plain Albania holiday. Plans come from GigSky.

Airalo eSIM in our hands

Airalo testing outdoor Airalo testing speed 1 Airalo testing speed 2 Airalo testing support

Airalo is the option for calls and texts on a global plan, but its Albania record is middling: it worked well for 6 of 7 travelers who reported from Albania (86%), limited evidence. The miss is a family that landed in Tirana in June 2026 and found 4G working on none of their phones. Two of the successes only worked after a call to the help desk: one eSIM that ran fine in Greece did not connect on arrival in Albania until WhatsApp support fixed it in 15 minutes, and another traveler needed the help desk to walk through setup. One reviewer topped up twice because the data ran out faster than Airalo's estimate, and one complains that Albania's weaker network costs the same as stronger ones.

Airalo's Albania page names One Albania as the network, under its "Hej Telecom" plan brand [7], and third-party audits report the plans as 4G only, so it misses Vodafone's lead in the mountains. In our comparison tool it sells 1 to 20 GB plans for 3 to 30 days, unlimited for 10 and 15 days at 3 GB a day before it slows, the Eurolink regional plan that includes Albania, and Discover+ global plans with calls and texts. Its price position is at the market average, never the cheapest. Purchase and install were the easiest of the big brands in our test, as our Airalo review shows, which makes it a fair pick for a first eSIM if you can wait a few minutes at the airport. Plans come from Airalo.

Holafly eSIM in our hands

Holafly testing outdoor Holafly testing support Holafly testing support 2 Holafly testing speed

Holafly is the unlimited option for a Balkan multi-country trip, with one warning: in our test its speed was capped from the start, before any data was used, which is enough for maps, messaging, browsing and streaming but slow for large downloads, uploads, cloud backups and laptop work. It worked well for 11 of 13 travelers who reported from Albania (85%), limited evidence. The successes cover 4 days across Tirana, Sarandë and Ksamil, a 12-day family trip on four unlimited eSIMs, and the "Balkan 6 non-EU countries" plan across Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro. The misses are specific: one traveler in July 2026 had weak signal in the biggest cities and "two entire mornings (in Tirana and Berat) without service at all" (5 Aug 2026), one found the service weak or absent in parts of the country, and a 1-star review from May 2026 describes a connection throttled to near zero despite decent coverage, which matches our own speed finding.

Holafly's Albania page names both One Albania and Vodafone Albania, sells unlimited data only, caps the hotspot at 1 GB a day, and says its Europe plan does not include Albania [8]. There are no top-ups: when a plan ends you buy a new eSIM, though the free Always On allowance gives 1 GB a month if you keep the eSIM installed, which one reviewer used for a side trip to North Macedonia. At the time of writing our comparison tool listed no Holafly plan for Albania, so there is no plan table here; the plans are on Holafly's own page. Its price position is among the most expensive unlimited options in our comparison. Install was one tap and the help desk was quick in our test, as our Holafly review describes. Plans come from Holafly.

GoMoWorld eSIM in our hands

GoMoWorld testing preview GoMoWorld testing speed 1 GoMoWorld testing speed 2 GoMoWorld testing support

GoMoWorld worked well for 4 of 5 travelers who reported from Albania (80%), limited evidence, and two of the reviews point at the same trap: a traveler bought the Europe plan and only then saw that Albania was not in it (GoMoWorld swapped it before activation), and another on a Bosnia, Montenegro and Albania trip ended up charged twice for Albania. The counted miss is an iPhone 16 Pro owner in July 2025 whose plan did not work at all, with GoMoWorld's reply pointing at data roaming and the data-line setting. The successes are plain: worked great in July 2026, and an Albania plan that ran fine while a repeat Bosnia plan would not install.

In our comparison tool GoMoWorld sells four Albania plans, 1.7 GB for 7 days and 7, 16 or 25 GB for 30 days, at its flat euro prices, and nothing regional that covers Albania. It does not name its Albanian network. The eSIM is app-only, one account per device, and the plan does nothing until you press Start, which is the most common cause of "not working" in our experience, as our GoMoWorld review explains. In our test it was the fastest provider with no throttling, and its price position is below market for 5 GB and up, so it suits a heavy user in Albania alone who reads the setup screen. Human help is office hours only. Plans come from GoMoWorld.

Ubigi is the travel eSIM brand of Paris operator Transatel, with one reusable eSIM for 200+ destinations. Data was fast in our test, and its 3 GB, 10 GB and 30-day unlimited plans are cheap. Its weak point is support: a chatbot that ends in an email ticket, with no live agent.

Ubigi eSIM in our hands

Ubigi testing preview Ubigi testing speed 1 Ubigi testing speed 2 Ubigi testing support

Ubigi has the weakest record here: it worked well for 2 of 4 travelers who reported from Albania (50%), limited evidence. Both misses are from August 2026: one traveler on an unlimited "expanded Europe" plan found it "unusable in Albania where I needed it the most" (16 Aug 2026), and a Galaxy S23+ owner got nothing at all. Ubigi's replies blame network registration after crossing a border and device settings. The two successes praise the app, a high data cap with hotspot, and a great connection in June and July 2026, so the eSIM can work well when it registers.

Ubigi's own network list names One Albania, so it misses Vodafone's rural lead. In our comparison tool it sells Albania plans of 1 GB (7 days), 3 GB, 10 GB (7 or 30 days) and 25 GB, unlimited for 7 or 15 days with a 20 GB fair-use allowance on the 7-day plan, and Europe Extended, World and Best World plans that include Albania. Its price position is just below the market average and its 30-day unlimited is among the cheapest. The findings against it are the app, a wrapped website, and the help desk, which never answered our ticket in 24 hours, as our Ubigi review describes. It suits a tech-savvy traveler who can select the network by hand. Plans come from Ubigi.

Global YO eSIM in our hands

Global YO testing outdoor Global YO testing speed 1 Global YO testing speed 2 Global YO testing support

Global YO is the second-cheapest provider in our comparison, but only 2 travelers have reported from Albania so far, both positive, which is too few to judge. One used it in Tirana in March 2025 and found it near perfect, in contrast to a very slow Morocco eSIM from the same provider. The other, in January 2025, reports that it barely picked up a signal inside and around Tirana airport but worked well once outside, the only airport-specific report for Global YO.

Global YO does not name its Albanian network. In our comparison tool it sells Albania plans from 1 GB to 100 GB for 3 to 60 days, day plans with a daily allowance, and Europe Explorer and Global Explorer plans that include Albania; there is no unlimited. Purchase is app-only and the app dies at zero data; the help desk took 10 minutes for a template reply and more than 30 for a follow-up in our test, as our Global YO review shows. It suits a price-driven traveler who installs at home and needs 10 GB or more, where its price edge is widest. Plans come from Global YO.

Roamless eSIM in our hands

Roamless suits a frequent traveler who wants one eSIM and credit that never expires, but only 2 travelers have reported from Albania, both positive, which is too few to judge. One used the same eSIM in Malaysia, Spain and Albania on a months-long trip without a fault in May 2026; the other reports everything working in Albania in October 2025. Neither describes a place within the country.

Roamless does not name its Albanian network on its page; our comparison tool lists it as Vodafone. It sells Albania plans of 1 to 100 GB for 30 days, no-expiration credit plans at a flat per-GB rate, a 400 MB free trial plan for new users, and Europe and Global 30-day plans that include Albania; there is no unlimited and no throttling is claimed. In our test the preselected APN did not work until we picked "Proximus Internet", and the shop still loaded at zero balance, as our Roamless review describes. Its price position is at market in popular destinations, cheap for 1 GB and dear from 10 GB up. Plans come from Roamless.

Saily eSIM in our hands

Saily testing outdoor Saily testing speed 1 Saily testing speed 2 Saily testing support

Saily is the choice for a first eSIM, with the most polished app, install and help desk in our test, but only 2 travelers have reported from Albania, both positive, which is too few to judge. One reports an excellent connection and an easy activation in July 2026; the other used it in Corfu and Albania in April 2026 with no connection issues, which matters on the Riviera where phones drift onto Greek networks.

Saily's Albania page does not name a network; third parties report One. It lists fixed plans from 1 GB (7 days) to 20 GB (30 days) and unlimited plans with 3 GB a day at full speed before they slow, no hotspot restriction and a 180-day activation window [9]. Our comparison tool shows the fixed plans and Saily's Global plans; its Europe plan does not include Albania, which is instead in its Balkans regional plan [10]. Its price position is the second most expensive in our comparison in the places people travel most. The eSIM is app-only, the app says install does not start the plan, and an optional US number with minutes can be added, as our Saily review shows. Plans come from Saily.

Jetpac eSIM in our hands

Jetpac testing outdoor Jetpac testing speed 1 Jetpac testing speed 2 Jetpac testing support

Jetpac has only 1 report from Albania so far, positive, which is too few to judge: a traveler's daughter used it in June 2026 and it worked everywhere, and the same reviewer got a full refund for an eSIM bought for an incompatible phone. Nothing counts against it in the reports; the sample is simply tiny.

Jetpac says it uses more than one network in most countries; two third-party audits read its Albania list as One on 5G plus Vodafone on 4G, and Jetpac's page could not be checked directly. Every Albania plan in our comparison tool is flagged 4G only: 1 to 40 GB packs and unlimited for 1 to 30 days at 3 GB a day before it slows, plus Global plans. When the research checked Jetpac's site in September 2026 the undiscounted 20 GB plan cost more than the discounted 30 GB and 40 GB plans, a trap worth knowing. WhatsApp, Maps and Uber keep working after the data runs out on packs of 3 GB and up, and in-app voice packs are sold, but the site and app were the roughest we tested, as our Jetpac review describes. Its price position is above market for 3 to 20 GB. Plans come from Jetpac.

Providers travelers report from Albania that we have not tested

Simify, an Australian retailer, also appears in reviews that mention Albania, including one traveler who switched to it after an Airalo eSIM failed there, but it is not in our counted reports and we have not tested it, so we cannot rank it.

Best eSIM Plans for Albania

Price per GB in Albania by eSIM Provider

How much does each provider charge per GB in Albania? The chart below compares plans of 1 to 10 GB that last 6 to 14 days, the usual range for a one- or two-week trip. Provider websites show only their own plans, so this side-by-side view is one you would otherwise have to calculate yourself. A shorter bar means a lower price per GB.

Generated 28.10.2026 22:01

The tables below show the current cheapest plans at each size. For Albania the choice is simpler than in most countries: a one-week trip on 5 GB has the widest field, 20 GB and up narrows to a handful of providers, and unlimited splits between full-speed plans with a daily allowance (Nomad, Maya Mobile, eSIM4Travel, Airalo, Saily) and plans whose fair-use rule is unpublished (Yesim, ByteSIM, Holafly). One documented 10-day trip in the research used about 1.4 GB, so most travelers will not need the big plans unless they stream or share a hotspot. If Albania is one stop on a Balkan or Adriatic trip, compare plans that cover Albania and Greece, and read our guides for Greece, Italy and Croatia before you pick one eSIM for the whole route.

Best eSIM for Tirana, Sarandë, Ksamil and the Albanian Alps

Only Tirana has enough place-level reports to judge, and even there no single provider reaches three, so the country pick applies everywhere. The overall pick, Nomad, has two Tirana reports, both positive, and one miss in Kashar on the city's edge. No traveler reports name Theth, Valbona, the Peaks of the Balkans or Lake Koman yet; for those, the network section below is the better guide.

Best eSIM for Tirana

Nomad is the pick for Tirana on the country record, and its two Tirana reports agree: one traveler used an Albania eSIM only in Tirana and called it perfect, and the 3-star reviewer who struggled in Kashar still had full bars and turn-by-turn directions in the city centre. The one Tirana miss for Airalo was a family whose 4G did not come up on landing; Holafly's Tirana split is a traveler with four stable days across Tirana, Sarandë and Ksamil against one who lost two whole mornings in Tirana and Berat with no service at all in July 2026.

The airport is the weak spot for every provider. Global YO's one airport report says the signal was poor inside and around the terminal and fine outside; Airalo's two arrival-day problems both started at or just after landing; a third-party guide reports up to 20 minutes with no service inside the terminal while a new eSIM registers. Maya Mobile and eSIM4Travel are the providers whose reviewers say the eSIM came up at Tirana airport itself. If your eSIM shows no service in the arrivals hall, the setup section below has the fix that reviewers and guides used.

No traveler reports from the Albanian Alps, the Riviera beyond Sarandë and Ksamil, or Lake Koman yet. Third-party travel guides report Vodafone holding signal more reliably in Theth and Valbona and hours without any network on the pass between them, which favours Nomad, eSIM4Travel and Holafly, the providers whose pages name Vodafone, over the One-only providers Airalo and Ubigi. Near Sarandë and Ksamil a provider page reports that phones latch onto Greek networks from Corfu, so an Albania-only plan may drop until you reselect the Albanian network by hand.

Local SIM Cards and Operator eSIMs in Albania

A local SIM wins for a stay of two weeks or more, for anyone who needs an Albanian number with calls, or for a Balkan trip on one SIM; a travel eSIM wins for short trips, for anyone who wants data before landing, and for anyone who would rather skip the passport registration. Both operators refreshed their tourist packs in 2026. Vodafone Albania's in-store Tourist Tera Packs, on sale from 3 Jul 2026, cost 2,700 ALL for 15 days, 2,900 ALL for 21 days and 3,300 ALL for 30 days, each with about 1 TB of data and 1,000 national minutes, VAT included, as of September 2026 [3]. Vodafone's tourist FAQ says the packs work across the Western Balkans at no extra cost [5], and the 30-day pack adds a 3 GB Greece allowance [3].

Vodafone also sells web-only tourist eSIMs, launched 15 May 2026: 1 GB for 1 day free, 3 GB for 3 days at 600 ALL, 5 GB for 5 days at 1,000 ALL and 20 GB for 10 days at 1,700 ALL, as of September 2026 [4]. Per GB that is the cheapest tourist product in the market. The catch, reported by a single traveler and not confirmed, is that checkout runs an identity check whose SMS step needed an Albanian number, so it may not complete from abroad. One Albania launched its "1 Million Moments" tourist packs on 22 May 2026, 1 million MB plus minutes and SMS for 15 or 30 days [6]; One's own release gives no prices, and third-party guides report 2,700 ALL for 15 days and 3,200 ALL for the 30-day Albania & Balkan version as of September 2026. The packs can be reserved online for pickup at One's airport store near the terminal exit [6].

Registration is required by law for every Albanian prepaid SIM, so bring a passport; a third-party guide reports that some shops ask for a residence permit instead, which a tourist cannot show. Both operators sell at Tirana airport arrivals, in their own stores, in One's mall shops and, for Vodafone, at newsstands. We could not confirm the airport desks' opening hours: the one guide that covers them contradicts itself. Payment is in lek and often cash, per a provider page, and no airport price premium is documented. Since July 2026 the Competition Authority requires both operators to sell their cheapest package at physical points of sale and not just in apps, after an investigation that opened in January 2025 and found similar pricing but no legal violation [2]. The research found no consumer MVNO in Albania; a travel eSIM uses a roaming profile, so it needs no registration.

Mobile Networks in Albania

Albania has exactly two mobile networks, Vodafone Albania and One Albania, after ALBtelecom was merged into One in January 2023; the regulator AKEP describes the result as a duopoly [1]. Vodafone is the stronger network for the mountains and for raw speed on current evidence: Opensignal's October 2025 report gives it the outright download speed and consistent quality awards, every independent travel guide the research found places it ahead in Theth, Valbona and on the Peaks of the Balkans, and AKEP figures relayed by Revista Monitor give it slightly wider 4G territory coverage (data from 2021). One wins on 5G: the same regulator figures, relayed in June 2026, put One's 5G population coverage at about 70% against Vodafone's about 60%, and third-party lists give One the longer 5G city list, including Berat, Ksamil, Sarandë and Himarë. Both launched 5G in late November 2024 according to industry reports, and the two operators split the market almost evenly, with One marginally ahead on active users at the end of 2025 per AKEP data relayed by Monitor.

Which network your eSIM uses decides how the mountains go. Verified on the providers' own pages: Nomad uses Vodafone and One, Vodafone first [11]; eSIM4Travel names One and Vodafone [12]; Holafly names both [8]; Airalo names One Albania only [7]; Ubigi's network list names One only; ByteSIM's page title names Vodafone. Reported by third parties only: Jetpac on One for 5G and Vodafone for 4G, and Saily on One. Not placeable from the files: Maya Mobile, Yesim, GigSky, Global YO, GoMoWorld and Roamless, though our comparison tool lists Roamless as Vodafone. Airalo's plans are also reported as 4G only, and every Jetpac plan in our tool is flagged 4G only, so neither gets One's 5G.

Three network facts matter for a trip. Third-party guides report no signal for 4 to 5 hours on the Theth to Valbona pass, long gaps on the Peaks of the Balkans trail and no report of signal on the Lake Koman ferry; sources conflict on the Llogara pass and tunnel, so we cannot say. A provider page reports border bleed: near Sarandë and Ksamil phones pick up Greek networks from Corfu and near Shkodra Montenegrin ones, and an Albania-only plan drops until the phone hops back. And AKEP's 2026 reporting, relayed by Monitor, says One could not build its 5G sites at Kukës and Vlora airports because the airports were not operational, so 5G at the two smaller airports should not be expected. The research does not cover a 3G shutdown; two reviewers in 2025 and 2026 still saw 3G as the only option in places.

How to Set Up an eSIM for Albania

Install at home, on Wi-Fi, before you fly. Almost every provider here starts the plan on first connection in Albania, not at install; the exceptions are Yesim, whose plan started at purchase in our test, and GoMoWorld, whose plan does nothing until you press Start in the app.

  1. Check that your phone can take an eSIM and is unlocked, then buy the plan a few days before the trip. Activation windows give you room: eSIM4Travel allows 90 days [12], Saily 180 days [9], Jetpac keeps unused packs for 3 months and Ubigi's QR is valid for 6 months. Our first eSIM guide covers the compatibility check.
  2. Install at home. eSIM4Travel, Airalo, Maya Mobile, Ubigi, Yesim, ByteSIM, Jetpac, Nomad and Holafly send a QR code by email; GoMoWorld, Saily, Roamless, GigSky and Global YO install only through their app. The iPhone guide and the Samsung guide show the menus. Do not delete the profile afterwards: Holafly and Global YO eSIMs cannot be reinstalled.
  3. On landing, turn on data roaming for the eSIM and make it the data line. Give it time: a third-party guide reports up to 20 minutes with no service inside the Tirana terminal, and the reviews here show arrival-day failures for Airalo and Global YO that cleared outside the airport.
  4. If there is still no signal, pick the network by hand: Vodafone AL or One AL in the phone's network list. A tip from a traveler forum, relayed by a third-party guide and not confirmed by us, is to set the APN to wbdata. Provider APNs from our tests: globaldata for Maya Mobile and Global YO, gigsky for GigSky, mobiledata for Ubigi, and Proximus Internet for Roamless, whose preselected APN did not work for us.
  5. Near Sarandë, Ksamil or Shkodra, reselect the Albanian network if the phone drifts onto a Greek or Montenegrin one; an Albania-only plan has no data on the foreign network.
  6. Watch the balance. Only GigSky, Ubigi and Roamless keep enough of a connection at zero data to buy more without Wi-Fi; Jetpac keeps WhatsApp, Maps and Uber alive on packs of 3 GB and up; every other app goes dark, and Holafly and ByteSIM sell no top-ups at all. If nothing works, our troubleshooting guide goes through APN, roaming and line settings in order.

Calls and SMS in Albania

Albania's calling code is +355, and almost every travel eSIM here is data only, so calls go over WhatsApp or a similar app. The exceptions in this article: Airalo's Discover+ global plans include calls and texts with a US number and cover Albania; Saily sells an optional US number with minutes and SMS that works with its Albania plans [9]; Jetpac sells in-app voice packs, though in our test the person we called saw a US number; Roamless has in-app VoIP calls and an optional second number; and Global YO's YO SHOUT makes outgoing VoIP calls. ByteSIM sells local-number calling plans in some countries, but none for Albania in our comparison tool.

For a real Albanian number the local operators are the answer: Vodafone's Tourist Tera Packs include 1,000 national minutes [3] and One's 1 Million Moments packs bundle minutes and SMS [6]. Two practical points from the research: ride-hailing runs on local apps (Patoko, VrapOn, Speed Taxi) rather than Uber or Bolt, so install one before you land, and Jetpac keeps WhatsApp usable after its data runs out on packs of 3 GB and up, which is a cheap safety net for messaging.

Free eSIM Data for Albania

The biggest free allowance for Albania comes from the operator: Vodafone Albania's web-only Tourist eSIM 1 GB plan costs 0 ALL for 1 day, as of September 2026 [4], though one traveler could not complete the identity check from abroad. Among the providers here, Roamless lists a free 400 MB trial plan for Albania for new users in our comparison tool, GoMoWorld gives a free 1-day trial, GigSky a free 100 MB trial, Nomad a free 1 GB trial plan, and Holafly's Always On adds 1 GB a month after a plan ends if the eSIM stays installed. Our free eSIM data guide lists the current trials and their conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions About eSIMs in Albania

Which eSIM works best in Albania?
Nomad had the best record in traveler reports from Albania: it worked well for 22 of 23, with one plan that never connected and signal drops in small towns the only other complaint. It rides both Vodafone and One. Maya Mobile worked for 19 of 24, but five travelers had no signal or slow data. Holafly worked for 11 of 13, but its speed was capped from the start in our test. Compare current plans with (eSIM Comparison).
What is the cheapest eSIM for Albania?
eSIM4Travel is usually the cheapest provider in our comparison, with Global YO second, and both sell Albania plans from 1 GB up. For 3 GB to 20 GB over a few days, Vodafone Albania's own web tourist eSIM is cheaper per GB than any travel eSIM, but its checkout runs an identity check that one traveler could not finish from abroad. Live prices are in (eSIM Comparison).
How much data do I need for Albania?
A documented 10-day trip in the research used about 1.4 GB, so 3 to 5 GB covers a week of maps, messaging and photos for most travelers. One Airalo reviewer topped up twice because the data went faster than estimated, so streaming or a hotspot pushes the need to 10 GB or an unlimited plan. Does a Europe eSIM work in Albania?
Often not. Holafly's Europe plan excludes Albania, Saily's 35-country Europe plan runs from Austria to the UK without it, and a GoMoWorld customer found the same before activation. Albania is also outside the EU roam-like-at-home area. The plans that do cover it are the Albania-only plans, the Balkans regional plans from Nomad, Saily, Yesim and Holafly, and the global plans from Maya Mobile and others.
Which eSIM is best for Tirana?
Nomad has the best Tirana reports, 2 of 2, both describing full bars and turn-by-turn directions in the centre, but no provider has three Tirana reports, so the country pick applies. The airport is the weak spot: arrival-day failures for Airalo and Global YO cleared once outside the terminal, and a third-party guide reports up to 20 minutes of no service inside while a new eSIM registers.
Can I buy an Albania SIM card for tourists at Tirana airport?
Yes, both operators sell tourist packs at Tirana airport arrivals, and One's store sits near the terminal exit with online reservation for pickup. Bring a passport, because registration is required by law, and bring lek. Vodafone's 15-day Tera Pack and One's 15-day pack each cost 2,700 ALL as of September 2026, with the current details in the local SIM section above. We could not confirm the desks' opening hours.

Summary: the best eSIM for Albania

Based on 106 traveler reports and our own tests, Nomad is the best option for most trips to Albania: it worked well for 22 of 23 travelers, rides both Vodafone and One, and its only pattern of trouble is signal drops in small towns, with a help desk you may not reach. Maya Mobile (19 of 24) is the unlimited pick for a multi-country Balkan trip, with five misses that ranged from no signal to a 3G-only connection, mostly refunded. Yesim (9 of 9) is the choice for unlimited data by the day, with the slowest help desk we tested. eSIM4Travel (7 of 7) is usually the cheapest in our comparison and reached a human help desk in one click, but has no app and no way to top up without Wi-Fi. ByteSIM (4 of 4) suits a short trip with a WhatsApp help desk that answered fast in every report, though its checkout and app were the clumsiest we tested.

Holafly (11 of 13) remains the unlimited option for a Balkan route if you accept a speed capped from the start in our test, and a local Vodafone or One tourist pack beats any travel eSIM for a stay of two weeks or more with calls. The reports also agree on two habits: installing before the flight, and expecting a slow start inside the Tirana terminal. That, and a plan that names Vodafone for the mountains, is what makes the best eSIM for Albania in 2026.
