Best eSIM for Taiwan in 2026: 14 Providers Ranked by Traveler Reports

Key Takeaways

Key takeaways

Across 138 traveler reports and our tests, the best option for most trips is Nomad: it worked well for 24 of 25 travelers who reported from Taiwan, but its chat help desk is a bot only. Roamless worked for all 3 reporters, with free starter data for light users. Jetpac (17 of 18) suits multi-country Asia trips but several needed its help desk on arrival. GigSky (15 of 16) had the only perfect Taipei record, at a high price. Ubigi (10 of 11) is cheap for 10 GB and unlimited data but has the slowest help desk. eSIM4Travel is the cheapest here, with a human help desk and 1 report so far, positive.

The best eSIM for Taiwan is easy to get wrong for one reason: the island looks small, but mountains above 3,000 m take up more than half of it, and almost all of the network sits on the western coastal plain, while the eastern third is rugged and thinly populated [3]. In Taipei, Taichung, Tainan or Kaohsiung any of the 14 providers we compare will connect. The differences show on the east coast, in the Central Mountain Range and on the outlying islands, and that is where the network a provider rides starts to matter.

Most readers of this page will land at Taoyuan: 77% of all visitors entered Taiwan through that airport in September 2025, the latest month in the official arrival statistics we checked [2]. All three local operators run counters there, and their tourist passes are unlimited and include a local number. The catch is paperwork. Taiwan Mobile's published terms ask foreign travelers for two original identity documents, not one, and Chunghwa's airport counters take cash in NT$ only [9] [8]. A travel eSIM skips the queue and the documents, which is why most of this article is about them.

Two more things matter for a Taiwan trip in 2026. Taroko Gorge, the place eSIM marketing likes to use as its rural test, is still only partly open after the April 2024 earthquake: as of June 2026 the highway through the gorge ran under timed traffic control and several trails stayed closed [4]. And 3G is not something to count on: Ubigi's plan page lists no 3G for Taiwan at all, so an old phone that cannot do 4G will not get far. We read 138 public traveler reports from Taiwan, published between February 2024 and August 2026, and tested every provider ourselves. The picks below come from those reports first, price second and our hands-on findings third.

Best eSIM Providers for Taiwan

eSIM plans in Taiwan at a glance

How well each provider's eSIM works in Taiwan

The Vefru score is our overall rating of the provider. The percentage shows how many reviewers said their eSIM worked well in Taiwan. Since unhappy customers review more often, it is best used to compare providers with each other.

How we got these numbers: we read 138 public customer reviews that mention Taiwan or a place in it, published between February 2024 and August 2026, and counted a report as "worked" when the reviewer said the eSIM connected, even with small hiccups. We treat 20 or more reports as strong evidence, 3 to 19 as limited, and fewer than 3 as too few to judge. A count like 24 of 25 means the eSIM worked well for 24 of the 25 travelers who reported from here; each provider section says what went wrong for the rest. The Vefru test score is a separate number: our own hands-on test of the provider, run outside Taiwan, so it says how the provider behaves, not how the network performs here. Local operator prices in the text were checked on 26 September 2026; provider ratings, the plan tables and the price-per-GB chart are live and update on their own.

Nomad eSIM in our hands

Nomad testing preview Nomad testing speed 1 Nomad testing speed 2 Nomad testing support

Nomad is the best option for most Taiwan trips because it has the strongest record of any provider here and is the only one with enough reports to call the evidence strong. It worked well for 24 of 25 travelers who reported from Taiwan (96%). The reports come from city trips, multi-country Asia itineraries and short stopovers alike, and Nomad's one Taipei report connected.

The single miss is one report among 25, and the reviews we hold for Taiwan do not describe what went wrong, so we cannot say whether it was a dead zone or a setup problem. What we can say is that Nomad's Taiwan page lists two local networks, Chunghwa and Taiwan Mobile, and says the eSIM often comes with more than one network so you can switch in your phone settings if one is weak [13]. That is the main reason it tops this page: Chunghwa has the widest coverage of the three operators, and Taiwan Mobile is the fallback.

Plans in our comparison tool: Taiwan plans from 1 GB to 50 GB on 3 to 30 days, unlimited plans for 3, 5, 7 and 10 days at 2 GB a day and then slowed, plus Asia Pacific, Greater China and global plans that cover Taiwan. One warning on timing: Nomad's page said to activate within 60 days of purchase when we checked in September 2026, while the same plans in our tool list 30 days, so check the plan page before you buy early [13]. In our hands-on test the app was fast and has a home-screen widget showing the data left, but the help desk was the weak point: the bot looped and we found no route to a person, which is why Nomad suits travelers who will not need help. Price sits slightly below the market average across our comparison. Our Nomad review has the full test. Nomad plans for Taiwan.

Roamless is a US provider built around one global eSIM for 203 destinations, paid with pay-as-you-go credit. It was fast and unthrottled in our test, and travelers report it working in 91% of cases. Roamless eSIM in our hands

Roamless testing preview Roamless testing speed 1 Roamless testing speed 2 Roamless testing support

Roamless is the pick for light users and frequent flyers who want one eSIM for many countries, because every traveler who reported from Taiwan said it worked and its credit never expires. It worked well for 3 of 3 travelers who reported from Taiwan (100%), limited evidence, with one of those reports from Taipei. Three reports are enough to place it, not enough to call it proven, so its position below Nomad reflects that.

There were no misses to describe. Roamless lists Chunghwa as its Taiwan network, with 3G, 4G and 5G, and states no speed limit and unlimited hotspot on its Taiwan page [14]. Chunghwa is the operator with the widest coverage in Taiwan, which helps on the east coast and in the hills.

The plan range is unusual. Our comparison tool lists Taiwan 30-day plans from 1 GB to 50 GB, no-expiry credit bundles from 1 GB up to 200 GB, and a free 500 MB starter allowance for Taiwan, plus Asia and global plans. Credit is a flat per-GB rate with no volume discount, so Roamless is cheap for 1 GB and dear from 10 GB up, and at the market average overall in our comparison. In our test the preset APN did not work until we picked the partner network by hand, and Google Pay failed at checkout, so install at home with time to spare; a trickle of data stayed on at zero balance, enough to buy more. It also sells in-app calls and an optional second number. Our Roamless review has the APN fix. Roamless plans for Taiwan.

Jetpac eSIM in our hands

Jetpac testing outdoor Jetpac testing speed 1 Jetpac testing speed 2 Jetpac testing support

Jetpac suits travelers doing Taiwan as one stop on an Asia trip, because one reusable eSIM covered Taiwan together with Japan, Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong and Bali in the reports, and almost everyone got online. It worked well for 17 of 18 travelers who reported from Taiwan (94%), limited evidence, and both Taipei reports connected. The successes describe a quick setup, 5G in the cities and a help desk on WhatsApp that answered within minutes.

The pattern behind the misses matters more than the count. In at least five reports between July 2025 and August 2026 the eSIM did not connect on arrival in Taiwan or Taipei until the traveler contacted the help desk, which then fixed it: data roaming was off, an iPhone had assigned Jetpac to the name of an older travel eSIM, or the eSIM had to be reinstalled after a transit through Hong Kong. The one counted miss, from December 2025, could not be made to work for two days, got slow replies, and the traveler switched to another provider. A separate July 2026 complaint on a multi-country trip said a pack was activated without permission. So Jetpac connects for nearly everyone, but a fair share of travelers needed a person to get it going, and the help desk is part of the product, not a backup. One reviewer summed up the good case on 3 Feb 2026: "Worked fabulously in Taiwan. Easy to setup."

Jetpac does not name its Taiwan network on its page; it advertises automatic switching to the strongest network, and we could not check that for Taiwan. Our comparison tool lists Taiwan packs from 1 GB to 40 GB on 1 to 30 days, all marked 5G, unlimited packs for 3 to 30 days at 3 GB a day and then slowed, plus Asia Pacific and China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan bundles. Two things set it apart: packs of 3 GB and more keep WhatsApp, Google Maps, Uber and Grab working after the data runs out, and unactivated packs keep for 3 months. Its page showed an odd price ladder in September 2026, with 20 GB costing more than 30 GB and 40 GB, which looked like a promotion, so check the sizes next to each other before buying. On price Jetpac is among the dearer providers in our comparison for 3 to 20 GB plans. In our test the install was automatic but the app and site were rough, and in-app calls showed the recipient a US number. Our Jetpac review has the details. GigSky eSIM in our hands

GigSky testing outdoor GigSky testing speed 1 GigSky testing speed 2 GigSky testing support

GigSky is the pick for Taipei and for anyone who wants to be able to buy more data without finding Wi-Fi, because it has the only perfect Taipei record on this page and its app stays online when the data runs out. It worked well for 15 of 16 travelers who reported from Taiwan (94%), limited evidence, and all 3 Taipei reports connected, the most of any provider in the capital.

The one miss is a single report, and the reviews we hold for Taiwan do not say what went wrong, so we cannot tell a dead zone from a setup issue. GigSky's Taiwan page is rendered in the browser and gave us no network data when we checked in September 2026, so the Taiwan network is unknown. Its page does say one device thing that matters here: Pixel 3 phones sold in Taiwan do not work with eSIM.

What sets GigSky apart in our test is that the app kept working after the data ran out, so we could buy a new plan with no Wi-Fi; only Ubigi matched that. A person on its help desk answered right away. Our comparison tool lists Taiwan plans of 1, 3, 5 and 10 GB on 7 to 30 days, a 1-day unlimited pass, Asia Pacific plans up to 50 GB and cruise plans that cover Taiwan. GigSky's own page gives a free 100 MB trial for Taiwan. The drawback is price: GigSky is among the two most expensive providers in our comparison overall, even if its small plans and 1-day passes often sit near the top of a price-sorted search. The app is a wrapped website and you must install it to buy. Our GigSky review has the test. GigSky plans for Taiwan.

Ubigi is the travel eSIM brand of Paris operator Transatel, with one reusable eSIM for 200+ destinations. Data was fast in our test, and its 3 GB, 10 GB and 30-day unlimited plans are cheap. Its weak point is support: a chatbot that ends in an email ticket, with no live agent.

Ubigi eSIM in our hands

Ubigi testing preview Ubigi testing speed 1 Ubigi testing speed 2 Ubigi testing support

Ubigi suits experienced users who want 10 GB or unlimited data at a low price and will not need the help desk. It worked well for 10 of 11 travelers who reported from Taiwan (91%), limited evidence, and both Taipei reports connected. The successes share a pattern: travelers on Japan, Korea, Hong Kong or Vietnam trips who added Taiwan, found it connected at the airport on arrival and described good connections throughout. One wrote on 14 Jun 2026: "Worked well in Japan and Taipei."

The one miss, from May 2026, says only that the eSIM did not work in Taiwan and asks for a refund, with no detail on where or what was tried. Ubigi's plan page names Far EasTone and Taiwan Mobile as its Taiwan networks and lists no 3G, which makes it the one provider on this page that does not use Chunghwa, the operator with the widest coverage. In Taipei that made no difference in the reports; in the mountains it might.

Our comparison tool lists Taiwan plans of 1, 3, 10 and 25 GB on 7 to 30 days, unlimited plans for 7, 15 and 30 days, and Asia and world plans that cover Taiwan. Ubigi publishes its fair-use rule per plan: the 7-day unlimited plan gives 20 GB at full speed and the 30-day plan 60 GB, then it slows, and the eSIM expires if not activated within 6 months. Hotspot is allowed on all plans. In our test we could buy more data at zero balance, but the site and app were clunky and a help ticket went unanswered for 24 hours, the worst result of the 14 providers. On price Ubigi sits just below the market average and is cheap at 3 and 10 GB, with the lowest median 30-day unlimited price in our comparison. Our Ubigi review has the test. Ubigi plans for Taiwan.

eSIM4Travel testing outdoor eSIM4Travel testing speed 1 eSIM4Travel testing speed 2 eSIM4Travel testing support

eSIM4Travel is the pick for anyone whose first question is price: it is the cheapest provider in our comparison for Taiwan at every size we checked from 3 GB to 10 GB, and it rides Chunghwa, the operator with the widest coverage. Only 1 traveler has reported from Taiwan so far, and that report was positive, which is too few to judge, so this pick rests on our hands-on test and the price position, not on a Taiwan record.

The Taiwan page names Chunghwa Telecom as the network, and the plans in our comparison tool carry the network in their name [12]. The plan range runs from 1 GB on 3 or 7 days to 50 GB on 30 days, with Global 72 and South East Asia 12 regional plans that also cover Taiwan. You must activate within 90 days of purchase; the plan starts on first connection, and each day counts as 24 hours from then [12]. The daily-allowance variants on its page drop to 128 kbps after the day's quota, too slow for maps, so a fixed plan is the safer choice.

In our test the eSIM arrived by email as a QR code, installed and worked right away, and the help desk was the best we tested: one click from the bot to a person, who solved the problem and suggested a network switch. The downsides stay: no app, no Google Pay, and no way to top up without Wi-Fi once the data runs out. It is data only. Our eSIM4Travel review has the test, and our help desk comparison shows how it ranked. eSIM4Travel plans for Taiwan.

Holafly is the unlimited-data option for travelers who do not want to think about data, with one condition: in our test its speed was capped from the start, before any data was used. It worked well for 12 of 14 travelers who reported from Taiwan (86%), limited evidence, and both Taipei reports connected. The reviews we hold for Taiwan do not describe the two misses, so we cannot say whether they were dead zones or setup trouble. In practice the cap means Holafly is fine for maps, messaging, browsing and streaming, and slow for large downloads, uploads, cloud backups and laptop work.

Holafly sells only unlimited plans for Taiwan, from 3 to 30 days on its page as of September 2026, with hotspot capped at 1 GB a day and no top-ups: when a plan ends you buy a new eSIM [16]. Its page does not name a Taiwan network and says coverage is strong in cities but may be weaker or unstable in the mountains [16]. Among unlimited providers it is on the expensive side in our comparison. The Taiwan plan was not in our comparison tool when we exported the data, so there is no plan table here. ByteSIM is an option for experienced users on a short Taiwan trip who pay with a local wallet, and not a top pick because its daily and fixed plans throttle to 128 kbps after the quota, the harshest published rule on this page, and its help desk did not answer in our test. It worked well for 16 of 19 travelers who reported from Taiwan (84%), limited evidence, and its one Taipei report connected. The reviews we hold for Taiwan do not describe the three misses.

ByteSIM names Chunghwa as its Taiwan network and sells daily, fixed and unlimited plans on 1 to 30 days, with no ID required, hotspot on all plans and a 180-day refund rule for unused eSIMs [18]. There are no top-ups, so buy enough data upfront. In our test the checkout demanded a phone number and postal address, the app threw install errors and a WhatsApp message got no reply in 15 minutes, though customers report fast replies. On price it is at the market average overall and cheap for 3 to 5 GB on short Asia trips. No ByteSIM Taiwan plan was in our comparison tool at export, so there is no plan table. Our ByteSIM review has the test. ByteSIM plans for Taiwan.

Airalo eSIM in our hands

Airalo testing outdoor Airalo testing speed 1 Airalo testing speed 2 Airalo testing support

Airalo is the easy first eSIM, bought in a browser with no app, and not a top pick here because two of its ten reports failed and it is never the cheapest. It worked well for 8 of 10 travelers who reported from Taiwan (80%), limited evidence, and it has no Taipei reports. The reviews we hold for Taiwan do not describe the two misses.

Airalo's country page names Taiwan Mobile as its primary network as of September 2026, though an older package page we found named Chunghwa, so the partner may have switched and we could not confirm when [17]. Our comparison tool lists Taiwan plans from 1 GB to 50 GB on 3 to 30 days, unlimited plans at 3 GB a day and then slowed, and Asialink and Discover plans that cover Taiwan. Validity starts on first connection and renewals trigger automatically at 10% data left [17]. In our test the purchase was the smoothest of the 14 and data worked with no settings, but price sits at the market average and Airalo had the lowest record across all countries in our report set. Our Airalo review has the test. Airalo plans for Taiwan.

It worked well for 4 of 6 travelers who reported from Taiwan (67%), limited evidence, with no Taipei reports. The reviews we hold for Taiwan do not describe the misses, and our wider report set shows Global YO weaker in East Asia than in Southern Europe or Mexico.

Its page does not name a Taiwan network and promises 4G with 5G where available, so 5G is not guaranteed. Our comparison tool lists Taiwan plans from 1 GB on 3 days to 100 GB on 60 days, day plans with a daily allowance, and Asia Explorer and Global Explorer plans that cover Taiwan; there is no unlimited plan. Maya Mobile is not a pick for Taiwan because five of 14 travelers said it did not work, the worst share on this page, even though it is the second most reliable provider across all countries in our report set. It worked well for 9 of 14 travelers who reported from Taiwan (64%), limited evidence, and its one Taipei report failed. The reviews we hold do not describe the misses, but Taiwan is one of the markets our wider data flags as weak for Maya.

Maya no longer sells a Taiwan plan at all; its page confirms it has moved to a single global unlimited plan that covers Taiwan among 165 countries [20]. Our comparison tool lists that plan for 3, 7, 14 and 30 days at 5 GB a day at full speed and then slowed, plus a cruise version. Its page does not name a Taiwan network. In our test the purchase and install were quick, the speed was among the fastest and the daily reset was the fairest unlimited rule we saw; the help desk is a form and template replies. It is the cheapest global unlimited plan in our comparison, so it still makes sense for a long multi-country trip that only passes through Taiwan. Our Maya Mobile review has the test. GoMoWorld is the budget option for heavy data users, and not a top pick only because a single traveler has reported from Taiwan so far. That report, from June 2026, was positive: a short trip on the 7 GB plan that "worked great as well and easy to set up" (25 Jun 2026). One report is too few to judge.

Our comparison tool lists four Taiwan plans, 1.7 GB on 7 days and 7, 17 and 27 GB on 30 days, all on 5G, plus a South East Asia plan on 4G that covers Taiwan. Its page does not name a Taiwan network, and it labels the destination "Taiwan, Province of China", the only provider on this page to do so [19]. The eSIM comes only through the app, one account serves one device, and you must press Start in the app or nothing happens, the most common cause of "not working" in our test. Speed in our test was the fastest of the 14 with no throttling, and the price position is just below the market average, best at 5 GB and up. The help desk is a good bot, with people only in office hours. Our GoMoWorld review has the test. GoMoWorld plans for Taiwan.

Yesim has no traveler reports from Taiwan yet, so we cannot rank it on a record, and our test found its help desk among the slowest of the 14, with 15 to 60 minutes per reply. It sells flexible unlimited plans by the day, which is its strength for experienced users.

Our comparison tool lists a 500 MB one-day plan, Taiwan plans from 1 GB to 30 GB on 30 days, unlimited plans for 1, 7, 15 and 30 days, and Asia and global bundles that cover Taiwan. Its page does not name a Taiwan network, and the fair-use threshold on its unlimited plans is not published, so you do not know how much full-speed data you get. In our test the plan started at purchase rather than on arrival, so buy close to your trip or use its activate-later option. Saily eSIM in our hands

Saily testing outdoor Saily testing speed 1 Saily testing speed 2 Saily testing support

Saily has no traveler reports from Taiwan yet, which is the only reason it is not a pick: on paper it has the best setup of any provider here, with all three Taiwan networks and the most polished app and help desk in our test. One Jetpac reviewer who gave up on Jetpac in December 2025 switched to Saily and wrote that it then worked, but that is a mention in another provider's review, not a counted report.

Saily's Taiwan page names Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone with automatic switching, says the outer islands Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu are covered and deep Central Range trails are not, allows hotspot on all plans, and states that no passport registration is needed [15]. Our comparison tool lists a 1 GB plan on 7 days and 3 to 20 GB plans on 30 days, plus Asia and Oceania and global plans; its page also lists unlimited plans at 5 GB a day and then slowed, with a 180-day activation window [15]. The drawback is price: Saily is among the two most expensive providers in our comparison in the places people travel most. The eSIM comes only through the app, which may be blocked in China, so set it up before a combined trip. Our Saily review has the test. Saily plans for Taiwan.

Best eSIM Plans for Taiwan

Price per GB in Taiwan by eSIM Provider

How much does each provider charge per GB in Taiwan? The chart below compares plans of 1 to 10 GB that last 6 to 14 days, the usual range for a one- or two-week trip. Provider websites show only their own plans, so this side-by-side view is one you would otherwise have to calculate yourself. A shorter bar means a lower price per GB.

Generated 31.10.2026 09:28

The tables below show the current plans by data size, with live prices. Taiwan is a cheap data market: 11 of the 14 providers sell a plan for under 2 GB, so a weekend trip does not need a big plan, while Nomad, eSIM4Travel, Jetpac and Global YO go up to 40 GB or more for a long stay. If you are not sure how much you need, our guide on how much data a trip uses gives rules of thumb. Most travelers in the reports combined Taiwan with Japan or Korea; our comparison tool can search both countries at once, for example plans covering Taiwan and Japan from 5 GB, and our South Korea eSIM guide and Philippines eSIM guide cover the other usual stops.

Best eSIM for Taipei, the Mountains and the Outlying Islands

Taipei is the only place in Taiwan with enough reports for its own pick. GigSky wins it with 3 of 3, the only provider to reach the threshold there. Every other place in the reports is named only as "Taiwan", so the country pick, Nomad, applies outside the capital, and for the mountains and islands we fall back on what the operators and provider pages say.

Where you are goingWhat the reports showOur pick
TaipeiNomad 1/1, Roamless 1/1, Jetpac 2/2, GigSky 3/3, Ubigi 2/2, Holafly 2/2, ByteSIM 1/1, Maya Mobile 0/1GigSky (3 of 3; Jetpac and Ubigi also connected, on 2 reports each)

Best eSIM for Taipei

GigSky is the Taipei pick because all 3 travelers who reported from the city said it worked, and its app lets you buy more data without hunting for Wi-Fi. The runners-up did not fail in Taipei, they just have fewer reports: Jetpac, Ubigi and Holafly each connected for both travelers who reported there, and Nomad, Roamless and ByteSIM for their one. The only Taipei miss is Maya Mobile's single report, in line with its weak Taiwan record.

The airport is where the Taipei reports get interesting. A Ubigi traveler found the eSIM already connected on arrival in June 2026. Two Jetpac travelers landed with no data in April 2026 and needed the WhatsApp help desk to get online; a third, in August 2026, switched the eSIM on before landing, found data roaming was off, fixed that with Jetpac's own troubleshooting page, and then needed the help desk once more because the iPhone had filed the new eSIM under an old travel eSIM's name. The lesson for any provider: install at home, turn on data roaming for the travel line before you land, and keep the help desk contact handy. Speed is not the worry in the capital: Opensignal's July 2026 measurements put Chunghwa fastest in Taipei and Taiwan Mobile the most consistent, and all three operators were connected more than 99% of the time nationally.

Best eSIM for the mountains, the east coast and the outlying islands

No traveler reports name the Central Mountain Range, the east coast or the outlying islands, so this is network information, not a record. The land east of the western plain is where coverage thins: more than half of Taiwan is mountains, with 268 peaks above 3,000 m, and the eastern third is rugged and thinly populated [3]. Saily's own page says deep Central Range trails are not covered and that Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu are, and Holafly's page says coverage may be weaker or unstable in the mountains [15] [16]. No operator publishes a dead-zone list; Chunghwa's and Taiwan Mobile's own coverage maps let you check an address in advance [6] [7].

For these trips the network matters more than the brand. Chunghwa holds the most base-station licences and won every coverage and speed award in Opensignal's July 2026 report, so a provider that rides Chunghwa is the safer bet off the plain: Nomad, Roamless, eSIM4Travel, ByteSIM, and Saily, which switches between all three. Ubigi and Airalo do not use Chunghwa. For Taroko, plan around the road rather than the signal: as of June 2026 the highway through the gorge was open only under timed traffic control, the bus between the visitor centre and Tianxiang was suspended, and four damaged tunnels are not due back until July 2028 [4]. On Matsu, the islands' link to the main island runs over a handful of submarine cables; two of them broke at the same time in early 2025 and were repaired by mid-March, with microwave and satellite backup in between, so a slow day there is a cable problem, not an eSIM problem [5].

Local SIM Cards and Operator eSIMs in Taiwan

A Taiwan SIM card for tourists from one of the three operators beats a travel eSIM in two cases: a stay of a month or more, and a trip where you need a local number. For a week with 5 to 10 GB of data, a travel eSIM costs a fraction of the nearest operator bundle and skips the counter. For a week of unlimited data the two are close on price; the operator gives you the number and, at Taiwan Mobile, data with no throttling, while the eSIM gives you no documents, no queue and a plan that is working before you land.

Far EasTone is the only one of the three that publishes a full English price list. As of September 2026 its 4G day passes cost NT$100 for 1 day, NT$300 for 3 days, NT$500 for 5 days and NT$899 for 30 days, the last one slowed after 120 GB; a 5G 30-day pass is NT$999 with a small free call credit and slows after 60 GB; and longer "Data Wallet" bundles run from 1.2 GB on 60 days for NT$180 to 60 GB on 60 days for NT$999 [10]. Only the 30-day passes can be recharged, at 7-Eleven, FamilyMart and other chains or in the FETnet app [10]. Chunghwa's tourist day passes are unlimited, include free Chunghwa Wi-Fi hotspot access and voice credit, allow tethering and are sold at counters at four airports, for NT$ cash only, as physical SIM or eSIM [8]. Chunghwa's and Taiwan Mobile's own price tables did not render when we checked, so their prices are reported, not verified: four travel guides updated between June and September 2026 agree on 4G passes from NT$300 for 3 or 5 days up to NT$1,000 for 30 days, Chunghwa 5G passes from NT$500 for 3 days to NT$800 for 7 days, and the same airport prices at all three counters for most durations.

Taiwan Mobile's tourist card comes as eSIM or physical SIM, with unlimited data and no throttling; validity runs on a strict 24-hour clock from activation and cannot be extended, and on 5G plans hotspot sharing stops after a fixed free allowance while the data itself continues [9]. It accepts cards, UnionPay and Alipay as well as cash, and the airport counters open as early as 04:30 and as late as 23:00 depending on the terminal [9]. An operator eSIM brings little convenience over the plastic card: real-name registration at the counter is unavoidable, and Taiwan Mobile charges NT$300 to set up a replacement eSIM in store, waived on the first one [11]. We could not confirm whether Far EasTone sells a tourist eSIM at all.

The ID rule is the thing most English guides get wrong. Taiwan Mobile's published terms require two original identity documents from foreign travelers: a passport plus a second document like a visa, a Taiwan driver's licence or a residence permit [9]. Far EasTone's reseller terms say the same, and no SIM and no refund without both. A travel wiki claims airport counters ask for the passport alone in practice; that contradicts the published policy and we could not confirm it, so bring a second document. Travel eSIMs need none of this; Saily and ByteSIM both state that no registration is required. More on the trade-off in our eSIM versus physical SIM guide.

Mobile Networks in Taiwan

Chunghwa Telecom is the network to want outside the cities, Taiwan Mobile is the most consistent inside them, and Far EasTone gives you 5G most often; in Taipei the three are close enough that the choice barely matters. Taiwan has had three mobile operators since December 2023, when the regulator NCC approved Taiwan Mobile's merger with Taiwan Star and Far EasTone's merger with Asia Pacific Telecom [1]. Any provider page that still names Taiwan Star or Asia Pacific Telecom is more than two years out of date.

According to Opensignal's July 2026 report, Chunghwa won both coverage measures and every speed measure nationally and in all nine cities tested, Taiwan Mobile won on reliability and consistent quality, and Far EasTone's users saw a 5G signal the largest share of the time, while all three were connected more than 99% of the time. NCC licence counts for June 2026, which we saw only in reproductions by Taiwanese industry sites, put Chunghwa at about 40% of all base-station licences, the most of the three. Taiwan runs 5G in the non-standalone mode that still relies on 4G, so a 4G-only plan loses less here than the label suggests; see our note on whether 5G is worth paying for.

Which travel eSIM rides which network, from the providers' own pages checked in September 2026: eSIM4Travel, Roamless and ByteSIM on Chunghwa; Nomad on Chunghwa and Taiwan Mobile; Saily on all three; Ubigi on Far EasTone and Taiwan Mobile; Airalo on Taiwan Mobile as its primary network, with an older package page naming Chunghwa that we could not reconcile [12] [14] [18] [13] [15] [17]. Holafly, Jetpac, GoMoWorld, Yesim, Global YO and Maya Mobile did not name a network on their Taiwan pages when we checked, and GigSky's page gave us no data. Where a provider lists more than one network, our guide on eSIMs with several networks shows how to switch by hand. 3G is not a fallback: Ubigi's plan page lists none for Taiwan, and no provider page we read promised it apart from Roamless.

How to Set Up an eSIM for Taiwan

Install at home, before you fly. Almost every provider on this page starts the plan on first connection in Taiwan, not at install, and the Jetpac reports show what happens when setup is left to the arrival hall. The exceptions: Yesim's plan started at purchase in our test, GoMoWorld needs you to press Start in its app, and some Airalo packages start at install, so read the plan page for those three.

  1. Check your phone can take an eSIM and is unlocked. Pixel 3 phones sold in Taiwan cannot, according to GigSky's page, and iPhones sold in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao mostly cannot either. Our first eSIM guide has the compatibility check.
  2. Buy the plan with a Wi-Fi connection. eSIM4Travel, Airalo, Ubigi, Yesim, Jetpac, Nomad, Holafly and Maya Mobile send a QR code by email; GoMoWorld, Saily, Roamless and GigSky deliver only through their app, and Global YO needs the app to buy.
  3. Install the eSIM on Wi-Fi. Our guides for adding an eSIM on iPhone and adding an eSIM on Samsung show the menus. Give the line a clear name; one Jetpac traveler lost an hour because the iPhone reused an old eSIM's label.
  4. Mind the activation window. eSIM4Travel wants the eSIM activated within 90 days of purchase, Jetpac keeps unactivated packs for 3 months, Nomad's page said 60 days while our tool lists 30, Saily auto-activates after 180 days and Ubigi's unscanned QR code lasts 6 months, as of September 2026 [12] [13] [15]. GigSky's eSIM starts on first connection and cannot be paused, so keep it switched off until you land.
  5. On the plane or at the gate, switch the travel eSIM on for mobile data and turn on data roaming for that line. The August 2026 Jetpac report connected only after data roaming was enabled.
  6. If there is no data after landing, restart the phone, pick the provider's network by hand in the network settings, and check the APN the provider gave you; Roamless needed a manual APN in our test. Our eSIM troubleshooting guide covers the rest.

Calls and SMS in Taiwan

Taiwan's calling code is +886, and no Taiwan plan in our comparison tool includes minutes, texts or a Taiwan number: every travel eSIM here is data only in Taiwan. Calls go over WhatsApp, LINE or another app, which is how most of the travelers in the reports used them.

If you need a number of your own, the options are foreign numbers and app calling. Airalo's Discover+ global plans, which cover Taiwan, include a US number. Saily sells a US number as an add-on. Roamless offers in-app calls and an optional second number in the US, Canada, the UK or Australia, Global YO sells outgoing in-app calls, and Jetpac sells in-app voice packs, though in our test the person we called saw a US number. For a Taiwan number with call credit, the operator tourist passes in the local SIM section are the only route, and Far EasTone's 5G 30-day pass bundles a free domestic call credit [10].

Free eSIM Data for Taiwan

Four providers on this page give away a little data that works in Taiwan. Roamless includes a free 500 MB starter allowance for Taiwan on its page and in our comparison tool, enough to test the eSIM and reach a map [14]. GoMoWorld's Taiwan page lists a free one-day 500 MB trial [19], GigSky's page gives a free 100 MB seven-day trial, and Nomad's Taiwan plans in our tool include a 1 GB trial plan. None of these replaces a plan for a week, but the Roamless and Nomad allowances are enough to confirm the eSIM connects before you pay. Our free eSIM data guide lists trials for other countries.

Frequently Asked Questions About eSIMs in Taiwan

Which eSIM works best in Taiwan?
Nomad had the best record in traveler reports from Taiwan: it worked well for 24 of 25 travelers, and the one miss is not described in the reviews we hold. It lists two local networks, Chunghwa and Taiwan Mobile, so you can switch if one is weak. Its help desk was unreachable in our test, so Jetpac or GigSky suit anyone who may need help. Compare current prices with (eSIM Comparison).
What is the cheapest eSIM for Taiwan?
eSIM4Travel is the cheapest provider in our comparison for Taiwan at every size from 3 GB to 10 GB, with Global YO close behind and Ubigi cheap at 10 GB and for unlimited data. eSIM4Travel has only one traveler report from Taiwan so far, positive, and no app. The live tables above show today's prices, or use (eSIM Comparison).
How much data do I need for Taiwan?
A week of maps, messaging and social media fits in a small plan, and 11 of the 14 providers here sell Taiwan plans under 2 GB. The one GoMoWorld traveler who reported from Taiwan found a 7 GB plan more than enough for a short trip. Streaming and video calls need more. For a figure based on your own habits, use (Travel Data Calculator).
Does a travel eSIM work in Taipei?
Yes, every provider with Taipei reports connected there except one Maya Mobile report. GigSky had the best Taipei record, 3 of 3, and Jetpac, Ubigi and Holafly connected for both of their Taipei reporters; Holafly's speed was capped in our test. Several Jetpac travelers needed the help desk at the airport before data worked, usually because data roaming was off.
Do I need to register or show ID for a Taiwan SIM card for tourists?
For an operator SIM, yes: Taiwan Mobile's published terms ask foreign travelers for two original identity documents, a passport plus a second one, and Far EasTone's reseller terms say the same. A travel eSIM needs no registration in Taiwan; Saily and ByteSIM state this on their pages. The local SIM section above lists the operator passes and their prices.
Which network does my Taiwan eSIM use?
It depends on the provider. eSIM4Travel, Roamless and ByteSIM name Chunghwa, Nomad names Chunghwa and Taiwan Mobile, Saily all three, Ubigi Far EasTone and Taiwan Mobile, and Airalo Taiwan Mobile. Chunghwa has the widest coverage in independent measurements, which matters in the mountains and on the east coast, not in Taipei. Holafly, Jetpac, GoMoWorld, Yesim, Global YO and Maya Mobile do not name a network.

Summary: the best eSIM for Taiwan

Based on 138 traveler reports and our own tests, we recommend Nomad for most Taiwan trips in 2026: it worked well for 24 of 25 travelers, rides Chunghwa and Taiwan Mobile, and its only weakness is a help desk we could not reach. Roamless worked for all 3 who reported and suits light users with its free starter data and non-expiring credit, though its install needed a manual APN in our test. Jetpac, 17 of 18, is the multi-country Asia eSIM, with the condition that several travelers needed its WhatsApp help desk to connect on arrival. GigSky, 15 of 16, has the best Taipei record and an app that tops up without Wi-Fi, at a high price.

Ubigi, 10 of 11, is the cheap route to 10 GB or unlimited data for anyone who will not need help, since its help desk gave the worst result in our test. eSIM4Travel is the cheapest provider here with a human help desk, but has only 1 report from Taiwan so far. Holafly's unlimited data connected for 12 of 14 but its speed was capped from the start in our test; Saily has the best app and all three networks but no Taiwan reports yet. For a month or more, or for a local number, an operator pass from the airport is the better option. That is the best eSIM for Taiwan as the reports and our tests stand in October 2026.
