Best eSIM for Colombia in 2026: 14 Providers Ranked by Traveler Reports

Best eSIM Colombia
Key Takeaways

Key takeaways

Based on 108 traveler reports from Colombia and our tests, the safest pick for most trips is Holafly: it worked well for 19 of 22 travelers, but its speed was capped in our test. GoMoWorld (16 of 21) suits heavy data use; most of its misses were setup problems. Jetpac (6 of 6) was reported to work outside the cities, but its app is rough. GigSky (3 of 3) works for top-ups without Wi-Fi, at a high price. Maya Mobile (18 of 19) suits long trips on one unlimited plan. eSIM4Travel has no Colombia reports yet and no app, but is cheap with a human help desk.

The best eSIM for Colombia is the one that keeps working when you leave Bogotá, Medellín and Cartagena. Mobile coverage follows people, not land area. The regulator (the CRC) could measure Claro in 878 municipalities, against 211 for Tigo, 148 for Movistar and 87 for MovilPT, the operator formerly called WOM [1]. Even Claro, the leader, runs 5G in only 59 cities [5], and an independent tester reported patchy signal on every network it tried on mountain roads such as Bogotá to Villavicencio.

Two facts matter for your pick. First, Movistar and Tigo now belong to one company, Millicom [7], and they have shared a radio network since December 2024 [6]. Independent testing places most travel eSIMs on these two, so two eSIM brands are often one network twice. Second, under the CRC's rules, phones on local networks must be registered by IMEI, but international roaming is exempt. Most travel eSIMs work as roaming. Airalo's Colombia eSIM is the exception we found: its page asks for a passport check and registers your phone's IMEI [13].

This guide ranks 14 providers on 108 traveler reports, our own hands-on tests and the plans in our comparison tool. It also covers cities, local SIM cards, networks and setup, with research checked in September 2026.

Best eSIM Providers for Colombia

eSIM plans in Colombia at a glance

How well each provider's eSIM works in Colombia

The Vefru score is our overall rating of the provider. The percentage shows how many reviewers said their eSIM worked well in Colombia. Since unhappy customers review more often, it is best used to compare providers with each other.

How we got these numbers: we read 108 public customer reports that mention Colombia or a place in it, published between October 2024 and August 2026, and counted a report as "worked" when the reviewer said the eSIM connected, even with small hiccups. We treat 20 or more reports as strong evidence, 3 to 19 as limited, and fewer than 3 as too few to judge. A count like 19 of 22 means the eSIM worked well for 19 of the 22 travelers who reported from here; each provider section says what went wrong for the rest. The Vefru test score is a separate number: our own hands-on test of the provider, run outside Colombia, so it says how the provider behaves, not how the network performs here. Local operator prices in the text carry the date of their source, and our research was last updated on 25 September 2026; provider ratings, the plan tables and the price-per-GB chart are live and update on their own.

We chose the Best group by traveler reports first, price second and our own tests third. Five providers have 3 or more reports from Colombia and the highest rates. eSIM4Travel has none yet and is in the group because of its price position and help desk, since few travelers review it publicly. Nomad has more reports than Jetpac or GigSky but a lower rate, so it sits in the Other group. For a wider look at how we rank providers, see our comparison of the best eSIM providers.

Holafly is an Irish eSIM provider built around unlimited data, with trip eSIMs for 200+ destinations. Travelers report it working more often than any other provider we track. Its weak points are speed and price: our test ran at about 30 Mbps on 5G, and its unlimited plans cost more than most.

Holafly eSIM in our hands

Holafly testing outdoor Holafly testing support Holafly testing support 2 Holafly testing speed

Based on the traveler reports, Holafly has the strongest record for Colombia, but its speed was capped from the start in our test. It worked well for 19 of 22 travelers who reported from here (86%), which is strong evidence and the most reports of any provider. The successes come from Bogotá (4 of 4), the small town of Barichara (2 of 2) and Cartagena (2 of 2). The cap leaves enough for maps, messaging, browsing and streaming. It is slow for large downloads, uploads, cloud backups and laptop work.

The count does not say what went wrong for the 3 travelers it did not work for. The only place-specific miss we have is Monserrate, the hilltop sanctuary above Bogotá (0 of 1), so treat it as a flag, not a pattern. Holafly's own page warns that coverage may be weaker or less stable in rural or remote areas, including mountainous regions and rainforests [11].

Holafly says its Colombia eSIM runs on Telefónica, whose Colombian brand is Movistar [11]. It sells unlimited data only, priced by the day, and has no top-ups, so you buy a new eSIM if you need more time. Hotspot sharing is limited to 1 GB a day on Holafly's page [11], while a third-party site reports 500 MB a day, and we could not settle which is right. Fair use applies with no published threshold, and Holafly says unused eSIMs can be refunded within 6 months [11]. It is usually dearer than other unlimited providers in our comparison tool, which listed no Holafly plan for Colombia when we exported the data, so there is no plan table here. The speed finding comes from our Holafly review, where it was the only provider slowed from the first megabyte. You can check current plans on Holafly's Colombia page.

GoMoWorld eSIM in our hands

GoMoWorld testing preview GoMoWorld testing speed 1 GoMoWorld testing speed 2 GoMoWorld testing support

GoMoWorld suits travelers who need a lot of data. It was the fastest provider in our test with no sign of throttling, and it worked well for 16 of 21 travelers who reported from Colombia (76%). That is strong evidence, but the lowest rate of the providers with 20 or more reports. Successful reports describe good coverage in cities, hotspot use for four people on a 14-day trip, and an easy top-up in a second month. One traveler wrote on 14 Oct 2025: "In city areas very good..once in a while outside the city in the mountains had less network coverage but we could live with that."

Most misses we can read are setup problems, not dead networks. In our test the plan does nothing until you press Start (or schedule it) in the app, and that is the usual cause of "not working". One traveler in April 2026 could not connect, suspected an APN problem and bought a physical SIM, and another in July 2026 could not finish the install. A traveler who arrived in late June 2026 spent almost an hour failing to activate at the airport and finished at the hotel on Wi-Fi, so scheduling the plan before you fly avoids this. One reviewer in January 2026 blamed the Tigo network and told others to pick a provider on Claro, and another in March 2025 had to buy a Claro plan locally.

GoMoWorld sells Colombia plans of 3.5, 15, 35 and 55 GB, valid for 7 or 30 days, with no unlimited plan and no calls. A third-party test and one reviewer put it on Tigo, and the app does not name the network. The eSIM is app-only, one account works on one device, and humans answer only in office hours. Its prices are below the market in our comparison, and a third-party survey found its cost per GB the lowest in Colombia among the providers it checked (as of July 2026). The test findings are in our GoMoWorld review. Current plans are on GoMoWorld's site.

Jetpac is a Singapore eSIM provider with plans in 129 countries. It adds extras like in-app calls, free WhatsApp and Google Maps after your data runs out, and lounge access on delayed flights. Its website, app and support are rough, so it suits travelers who can fix small issues themselves.

Jetpac eSIM in our hands

Jetpac testing outdoor Jetpac testing speed 1 Jetpac testing speed 2 Jetpac testing support

Jetpac had no failed reports from Colombia, and travelers praise its human help, so it is a sound pick for trips outside the big cities, but the evidence is limited. It worked well for 6 of 6 travelers (100%), with reports from October 2024 to February 2026. The most telling one, from 19 Jan 2025, came from a traveler who said two competitors had worked only in large cities like Medellín: "Jetpac worked in remote areas." Another traveler used the SmartDelay lounge voucher after a delayed flight out of Colombia.

Four of the six reviews mention a hiccup, from an app login problem to a dropped connection and "some areas of low connectivity". The reviewers say support solved each one, in minutes to hours, on WhatsApp or in-app chat. One reviewer in January 2025 said support told them a data-only eSIM needs no phone registration. There is no failed report to describe.

Three independent sources place Jetpac on Claro, the operator with the widest reach, but Jetpac does not confirm it. Those sources say it is 4G only, while our comparison tool lists the plans as 5G-capable, so we treat 5G as unconfirmed. Jetpac sells Colombia plans from 1 GB to 40 GB, valid for 4 or 30 days, and no unlimited plan for Colombia. On plans of 3 GB or more, WhatsApp, Maps and Uber stay free after the data runs out, and in-app voice packs add calls. Its price is above the market for mid-size plans, and the 20 GB plan often costs more than the 30 GB one. The drawback is the app and purchase flow, the roughest we tested (our Jetpac review). Plans are on Jetpac's site.

GigSky eSIM in our hands

GigSky testing outdoor GigSky testing speed 1 GigSky testing speed 2 GigSky testing support

GigSky suits travelers who might run out of data away from Wi-Fi, because its app stays online at zero data and you can buy a new plan without Wi-Fi. It is also the dearest provider overall in our comparison. It worked well for 3 of 3 travelers who reported from Colombia (100%), a limited base. Two of the three name a place: Cartagena and the island of San Andrés.

No report describes a failure, so there is no pattern of misses to report, and with only 3 reports one bad experience would alter the picture. In our test the app was a wrapped website, speeds felt unstable on a strong local 5G cell, and the install needed the device named and the APN set to "gigsky". GigSky runs its own APN, and no source we found names the Colombian carrier behind it.

GigSky sells fixed Colombia plans from 1 GB to 50 GB, valid from 7 to 180 days, and a 1-day unlimited pass. You must install its app to buy, and a human answered immediately in our test. Its prices are the highest overall in our comparison, with cheap entry plans and 1-day passes, so it suits short or top-up use better than a large plan. More in our GigSky review. Plans are on GigSky's Colombia page.

Maya Mobile eSIM in our hands

Maya Mobile testing preview Maya Mobile testing speed 1 Maya Mobile testing speed 2 Maya Mobile testing support

Maya Mobile suits trips of a week or more where one unlimited plan is the goal. It had the best record of any provider with a large number of reports: it worked well for 18 of 19 travelers who reported from Colombia (95%). That is limited evidence, one report short of the strong threshold. The reports name Bogotá and Medellín, one each, both positive.

The count does not say what went wrong for the one traveler it did not work for. Maya has no Colombia-only plan. It sells one global unlimited plan for 3, 7, 14 or 30 days that also covers Colombia, so there is nothing smaller than 3 days and nothing built for a weekend.

A third-party test places Maya on Tigo and registered 5G there. The plan gives 5 GB a day at full speed, then slower speeds, with hotspot allowed. In our test it was fast on a strong 5G cell, the install needed us to set the APN "globaldata" and turn on roaming, and support runs through a WhatsApp bot and a form before a human replies. Maya refunds in full if no data is used within 30 days. Its price is the lowest we found for a global unlimited plan, though poor value for short trips in a country with cheap local data. The details are in our Maya Mobile review. Plans are on Maya's site.

eSIM4Travel testing outdoor eSIM4Travel testing speed 1 eSIM4Travel testing speed 2 eSIM4Travel testing support

eSIM4Travel is among the cheapest providers in our comparison and tied for the best help desk we tested, but there are no traveler reports from Colombia yet. Its place here rests on price and our hands-on test, not on Colombian results, and we cannot say it worked in Colombia. In Colombia its 2 to 10 GB plans were priced below the median of the other providers in our comparison tool.

There are no misses to describe because there are no reports. The downsides are the same in every country: no app, no Google Pay, one device per eSIM, and no way to top up without Wi-Fi once the data runs out. Day plans slow sharply after the daily allowance, and the unlimited plan gives 3 GB a day at full speed before slowing [14].

In our test, in Switzerland, a short bot sent us to a human in one click, and the human solved the problem. The eSIM came by email as a QR code and worked straight away. Our comparison tool lists Colombia plans from 1 GB to 50 GB plus unlimited for 3 to 30 days, all labelled Movistar. eSIM4Travel's page lists Claro and Movistar as networks [14], and our September research also found a multi-carrier product listed as Claro and Tigo, so check which one is in the cart. The eSIM must be activated within 90 days of purchase [14]. See our eSIM4Travel review for the test, and eSIM4Travel's Colombia page for plans.

Nomad suits experienced travelers who will not need the help desk, because in our test its bot looped and never reached a human. It worked well for 8 of 10 travelers who reported from Colombia (80%), a limited base, with one report each from Bogotá and Cali, both positive. The count does not say what went wrong for the 2 travelers it did not work for.

Nomad sells Colombia plans of 1, 3, 5, 10 and 20 GB, valid for 7 or 30 days, with no unlimited plan for Colombia. Add-on data is available, and a home-screen widget shows the data you have left. Our comparison tool lists Movistar, which fits our September research of Nomad's page. That page gives 60 days to activate [12], while our tool lists 30 days, so check before buying early. Prices are close to the market, a little below it. Nomad sits here, not in the Best group, because Jetpac and GigSky had higher rates and because of the unreachable support (our Nomad review). Yesim is not a top pick for Colombia. It worked well for 3 of 4 travelers who reported (75%), a limited base, and one independent tester found it failed in Colombia. That tester, a single person testing in Bogotá, reported that speeds never became usable and that support had not fixed it as of September 2026. It is one test, so we treat it as a warning, not a verdict. The count does not say what the one miss was.

Yesim sells fixed plans from 1 GB to 20 GB and unlimited plans by the day, which our comparison tool flags as throttled. A third-party test places it on Tigo. In our test the plan started at purchase, so it is best bought close to the trip. Support was very slow in our test, 15 to 60 minutes per reply, which makes a problem in Colombia hard to fix quickly. Prices are at the market, and its fixed country plans are dearer than average. It suits experienced users who want flexible unlimited days (our Yesim review). Plans are on Yesim's Colombia page.

Two reports name a place, Bogotá and Medellín, one each and both positive, so the one miss has no place attached. The count does not say what went wrong.

Saily sells Colombia plans from 1 GB to 10 GB, valid for 7 or 30 days, and our comparison tool shows no unlimited plan for Colombia. The eSIM is delivered only in the app and installs there in a few taps. A third-party test places Saily on Movistar, and Saily does not disclose its network. Its Colombia page markets a phone-number plan, but a third-party test and our tool show data only, so we could not confirm calls. Saily is among the dearest providers overall, which is why it sits here and not in the Best group (our Saily review). Plans are on Saily's Colombia page.

Ubigi is the travel eSIM brand of Paris operator Transatel, with one reusable eSIM for 200+ destinations. Data was fast in our test, and its 3 GB, 10 GB and 30-day unlimited plans are cheap. Its weak point is support: a chatbot that ends in an email ticket, with no live agent.

Ubigi eSIM in our hands

Ubigi testing preview Ubigi testing speed 1 Ubigi testing speed 2 Ubigi testing support

Ubigi suits tech-savvy users who can fix things themselves, and its Colombia record is mixed: it worked well for 4 of 6 travelers who reported (67%), a limited base. One traveler wrote on 10 Jun 2026: "Very good connection in Colombia." Another said they left the settings alone, restarted the phone at the destination and everything worked.

The two misses differ. A reviewer in July 2026 reported terrible coverage and slow speeds even in big cities. Another in April 2026 ran out of data within two days, which reads as a complaint about usage and price, not coverage. Ubigi lists Movistar and Tigo for Colombia [9], now owned by one company. It sells Colombia plans of 1, 3 and 10 GB, plus unlimited for 7 and 15 days. The 15-day unlimited plan gives 30 GB at full speed, then a much slower speed [10]. There is no 5 GB or 20 GB plan. You can buy more data at zero balance, but a web purchase creates no account, and support was the worst outcome in our test: a ticket unanswered after 24 hours. Prices are a little below the market (our Ubigi review). Plans are on Ubigi's site.

Airalo eSIM in our hands

Airalo testing outdoor Airalo testing speed 1 Airalo testing speed 2 Airalo testing support

Airalo had the weakest record of the providers with 3 or more reports: it worked well for 5 of 8 travelers who reported from Colombia (63%), a limited base. The count does not say what went wrong for the 3 travelers who had no connection, so we cannot name a cause. What is clear is that Airalo's Colombia eSIM works differently from most. Its page says it requires eKYC (a quick identity check, here with a passport only), registers your phone's IMEI and does not allow international outbound calls [13]. The buyer must be the user, so it cannot be bought as a gift.

Airalo sells data-only Chimba plans from 1 GB to 50 GB and Chimba unlimited for 3 to 30 days. Chimba+ plans from 1 GB to 20 GB add a Colombian number, calls and texts [13]. The unlimited plan slows after a daily allowance, according to our comparison tool. A third-party test places Airalo on Movistar, and its own page names the network "Airalo" [13]. Prices are at the market. It is easy to buy in a browser with no app, and it is the only provider here with a Colombian number built in, so it may suit travelers who need local calls (our Airalo review). Plans are on Airalo's Colombia page.

Roamless is a US provider built around one global eSIM for 203 destinations, paid with pay-as-you-go credit. It was fast and unthrottled in our test, and travelers report it working in 91% of cases. Roamless eSIM in our hands

Roamless testing preview Roamless testing speed 1 Roamless testing speed 2 Roamless testing support

Roamless worked for both travelers who reported from Colombia (2 of 2), which is too few to judge. It suits light users who cross several countries, because one eSIM works worldwide and unused credit never expires. In our test the preselected APN did not work and we had to choose "Proximus Internet" with Wi-Fi off, and the eSIM is delivered only in the app.

Roamless sells Colombia data two ways: pay-as-you-go credit with no expiry, and 30-day plans from 1 GB to 50 GB. There is no unlimited plan. Our comparison tool also lists a free Colombia plan of a few hundred megabytes. It lists Movistar as the network, while a third-party test reported Tigo, so we treat the network as unconfirmed. In-app calls and an optional second number are available. Prices are at the market: among the cheapest for 1 GB and dear above 10 GB (our Roamless review). Plans are on Roamless's Colombia page.

Global YO has one report from Colombia, and it worked (1 of 1), which is too few to judge. It is one of the two cheapest providers overall in our comparison, especially for 10 GB or more, so it suits travelers who install at home and will not need support. Support was slow in our test: the first reply took 10 minutes and was a generic template.

Global YO sells Colombia plans from 1 GB to 100 GB, valid from 3 to 60 days, plus Day plans with a daily allowance that slow once it is used. There is no unlimited plan. A third-party test places it on Tigo. The eSIM is bought only in the app and then emailed, and a deleted eSIM cannot be reinstalled. ByteSIM has two reports from Colombia, one that worked and one that did not (1 of 2), which is too few to judge. The miss was in Medellín, and with one report we cannot say why. It is not a top pick because its checkout and app were clumsy in our test, and the WhatsApp help desk did not reply within 15 minutes.

ByteSIM sells many Colombia plans, from 500 MB a day to 50 GB, valid for 1 to 30 days. Longer validity costs more, and our comparison tool shows no unlimited plan for Colombia. A third-party test places it on Movistar. There are no top-ups, and ByteSIM's terms allow a no-fee refund within 180 days for an eSIM that was unused or never connected. It may suit a short trip on a local payment method (our ByteSIM review). Plans are on ByteSIM's site.

Price per GB in Colombia by eSIM Provider

How much does each provider charge per GB in Colombia? The chart below compares plans of 1 to 10 GB that last 6 to 14 days, the usual range for a one- or two-week trip. Provider websites show only their own plans, so this side-by-side view is one you would otherwise have to calculate yourself. A shorter bar means a lower price per GB.

Across our comparison, eSIM4Travel and Global YO are usually the cheapest providers and GoMoWorld sits below the market, while Saily and GigSky are among the dearest. The tables below show the same data sizes side by side, so you can pick the size first. For maps and messaging on a week-long trip, start with the 2 GB and 5 GB tables; for hotspot use or video calls, look at 10 GB and up. Not sure how much you need? Use our travel data calculator, and see our cheapest eSIM comparison for how prices compare across countries. For Colombia, unlimited plans come from Holafly, Airalo, eSIM4Travel, GigSky (1-day pass), Maya Mobile, Ubigi and Yesim.

Best eSIM for Bogotá, Cartagena, Medellín and San Andrés

Holafly is the pick for Bogotá, the only place where one provider has 3 or more reports. For Cartagena and Medellín no provider has enough reports yet, so the country pick applies, and Holafly's speed is capped in our test. Reports exist for seven places in all, listed below.

Where you are goingWhat the reports showOur pick
BogotáHolafly 4/4, Maya Mobile 1/1, Nomad 1/1, Saily 1/1Holafly (speed capped in our test)
CartagenaHolafly 2/2, GigSky 1/1Country pick applies, no provider has 3 or more reports here

Baricharatoo few reportsCountry pick applies
Calitoo few reportsCountry pick applies
San Andréstoo few reportsCountry pick applies
Monserrate (hill above Bogotá)too few reportsCountry pick applies

Best eSIM for Bogotá

Holafly is the pick for Bogotá: it worked for all 4 travelers who reported from the city, the only provider with 3 or more reports there. Its speed is capped in our test, which is fine for maps and messaging but slow for big files. Maya Mobile, Nomad and Saily each have one report from Bogotá, all positive. That is encouraging but below our threshold of 3. The only miss near Bogotá is Monserrate, the hilltop sanctuary, where one Holafly report did not work.

Best eSIM for Cartagena

No provider has 3 or more reports in Cartagena, so the country pick, Holafly, applies, with its speed cap. The three reports we have all worked: Holafly (2 of 2) and GigSky (1 of 1). Opensignal's report for the first quarter of 2026 found Claro had the fastest downloads in Cartagena, as in the six other cities it measured. The providers reported on Claro are Jetpac and one eSIM4Travel product, but neither has a Cartagena report yet.

Best eSIM for Medellín

No provider has 3 or more reports in Medellín, so the country pick, Holafly, applies, with its speed cap. Maya Mobile (1 of 1) and Saily (1 of 1) worked, and the one miss was ByteSIM (0 of 1); with a single report we cannot say why. A Jetpac reviewer wrote in January 2025 that two competing eSIMs had worked in large cities like Medellín but not outside them. That fits the wider pattern here: city signal is rarely the problem, and the weak spots are mountain roads and remote areas.

San Andrés and the Caribbean islands have no provider with 3 reports; GigSky has one positive report from San Andrés. Claro announced 5G for San Andrés and for Leticia, the Amazon capital, in March 2026, and says regulator measurements for January 2026 show it had the highest mobile speeds on the islands and in Leticia [5]. We have no traveler reports from Leticia or the Amazon yet.

Local SIM Cards and Operator eSIMs in Colombia

A local prepaid SIM beats a travel eSIM on price once you need more than about 2 to 3 GB, and it usually adds unlimited national calls and texts. A travel eSIM wins on arrival, for small data needs and for skipping the counter, the language barrier and registration. The prices below come from a travel-eSIM provider's SIM guide dated 25 Jul 2026, which has a commercial interest in the comparison. We have not matched them to the carriers' live pages, so treat them as a guide (as of July 2026). The guide used about 3,205 COP to the US dollar.

Carrier and planDataValidityPrice (COP)Calls and texts
Claro all-inclusive10 GB7 days14,000Unlimited national
Claro all-inclusive30 GB30 days35,000Unlimited national
Tigo SIM plus data (SIM or eSIM free with a plan)5 GB7 days10,000Unlimited national
Movistar Prepago PRO "Mes" (online price)39 GB (13 GB in store)30 days35,000Unlimited national
MovilPT unlimited (formerly WOM)Unlimited15 days35,000Unlimited national

Claro's own campaign terms show how fast these prices rotate. For 26 Jun to 6 Jul 2026, a portal-only campaign listed 12 GB for 30 days at 23,000 COP and 18 GB for 30 days at 43,000 COP, and Claro's terms say prepaid 4G needs a handset that works on Band 7. Movistar and MovilPT give about three times more data online than in store at the same price, according to the same guide.

Registration is the catch. Several travel sites say Colombian law requires every prepaid line to be registered to a person. On documents, sources disagree. Some say a passport is enough, with 10 to 15 minutes at a counter and the physical passport in hand. A Spanish-language blog post from a travel-eSIM provider in May 2026 says carriers require a foreigner's ID card or migratory registration. We could not settle this, so ask at the counter before you rely on a local SIM. Tigo and MovilPT are reported to sell prepaid eSIMs at no extra cost, while a Claro eSIM reportedly needs an existing Claro line, a code and facial recognition, or a store visit. We could not confirm that last point.

Carrier kiosks operate in arrivals at El Dorado in Bogotá and José María Córdova near Medellín, and a second source adds Rafael Núñez in Cartagena. We could not find figures on airport price premiums. In the city, look for carrier stores, malls, supermarkets like Éxito, Jumbo and Carulla, Oxxo and pharmacies. Local SIMs also have a handset rule: Colombia registers phones by IMEI on local networks under the CRC's rules, MinTIC publishes how an IMEI is checked against the national positive database [3], and the CRC says operators may not activate handsets that are not homologated [2]. One commercial site claims that blocking was dropped in 2026, which we could not confirm.

Mobile Networks in Colombia

Claro has the widest reach in Colombia, but only a few travel eSIMs use it. The regulator measured Claro in 878 municipalities, against 211 for Tigo, 148 for Movistar and 87 for MovilPT, and Claro also had the highest average download across municipalities [1]. Claro says it has 4G in 1,088 municipalities [4], and its 5G reaches 59 cities in 29 departments [5]. Opensignal's report for the first quarter of 2026 gave Claro the best coverage experience nationally and the fastest downloads in all seven cities it measured.

Claro is not best at everything. In the regulator's national figures it was last on upload speed and latency [1], and Opensignal found Movistar and Tigo ahead on 5G speed. So Claro suits itineraries that leave the cities, and Movistar or Tigo suit city-only trips, video calls and 5G. Our 4G vs 5G guide explains what that means for your phone.

Movistar and Tigo are now one company. Millicom closed its purchase of Telefónica's controlling stake in Movistar's Colombian operator in February 2026 [7], and the two brands have shared a radio network since December 2024 [6]. The fourth operator, MovilPT, was called WOM until it had to stop using the name. Its page says the move to a new web address is temporary, and we found no permanent brand announced [8]. A third-party report says it had not launched 5G, and Opensignal scored it lowest for coverage.

Which provider rides which network, as of September 2026:

  • Named by the provider or its operator list: Holafly on Telefónica (Movistar) [11]; Ubigi on Movistar and Tigo [9]; eSIM4Travel lists Claro and Movistar on its page [14], and our research also found a multi-carrier Claro and Tigo product.
  • Listed in our comparison tool: Nomad and Roamless on Movistar, and eSIM4Travel plans labelled Movistar.
  • Reported by third-party tests only: Jetpac on Claro (three independent sources agree); Airalo, Saily and ByteSIM on Movistar; GoMoWorld, Yesim, Global YO and Maya Mobile on Tigo. A third-party test also put Roamless on Tigo, which conflicts with our tool.
  • Unknown: GigSky runs its own APN, and no source names the carrier behind it.

Only Jetpac and one eSIM4Travel product are tied to Claro. Because Movistar and Tigo are one company, a second eSIM from a different brand as a backup often means the same network twice. A backup on Claro and a main eSIM on Movistar or Tigo gives two different networks. Network integration may also alter the radio network behind eSIMs labelled Movistar or Tigo, according to Opensignal's market overview. Our guide to eSIMs with several networks shows how to switch operator.

How to Set Up an eSIM for Colombia

Installing the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi avoids most of the activation problems in these reports. Here is the order that worked best:

  1. Check that your phone is unlocked and works with eSIM (phones that work with eSIM).
  2. Install the eSIM before you fly. Some providers deliver the eSIM only in their app (GoMoWorld, Saily, Roamless, GigSky, Global YO), others email a QR code. The guides for iPhone and Samsung show the steps, and an activation code can be turned into a QR code.
  3. Check when the plan starts. Most plans start on first connection. Our Yesim plan started at purchase, and GoMoWorld does nothing until you press Start or schedule it. Activation windows differ: eSIM4Travel gives 90 days [14] and Nomad 60 days [12].
  4. On arrival, turn on the eSIM line for mobile data and switch data roaming on. In our tests Maya Mobile and Global YO needed the APN "globaldata", GigSky needed "gigsky" and Roamless needed "Proximus Internet". Switch off data on a physical SIM first; one traveler lost an hour at the airport to that.
  5. If there is no data, restart the phone and recheck the APN, then use our troubleshooting guide. Airport Wi-Fi helps for fixes.

Calls and SMS in Colombia

Most travel eSIMs for Colombia are data-only, so calls go through WhatsApp or a similar app. Colombia's calling code is +57. Airalo's Chimba+ plans add a Colombian number, calls and texts, but not international outbound calls [13]. Global YO sells outgoing calls through in-app credit with no local number, and Jetpac sells in-app voice packs, though in our test the person we called saw a US number. Roamless has in-app calls and an optional second number from the US, Canada, the UK or Australia. Saily's Colombia page markets a phone-number plan, but we could not confirm it. The carriers' prepaid SIMs include unlimited national calls and texts, as the local SIM section shows.

Free eSIM Data for Colombia

Roamless is the one provider with a free Colombia plan in our comparison tool: a few hundred megabytes, valid for 30 days after activation, enough to test the install and the signal before a trip (as of September 2026). GigSky, Nomad, GoMoWorld and Jetpac say new users can try a small free plan, but those are not Colombia-specific in our files, so check that Colombia is covered first. More in our guide to free eSIM data.

Frequently Asked Questions About eSIMs in Colombia

Which eSIM works best in Colombia?
Holafly had the best record among providers with strong evidence: it worked well for 19 of 22 travelers who reported from Colombia, but its speed was capped in our test. GoMoWorld worked well for 16 of 21 and showed no throttling in our test. Compare current plans for both with (eSIM Comparison).
What is the cheapest eSIM for Colombia?
eSIM4Travel and Global YO are usually the cheapest providers in our comparison, and GoMoWorld sits below the market. eSIM4Travel has no Colombian traveler reports yet, and Global YO has one. GigSky and Saily are among the dearest. The price-per-GB chart in the plans section shows live prices for Colombia.
How much data do I need for Colombia?
It depends on how you use your phone: maps and messaging use little, while video calls and hotspot use a lot. One GoMoWorld traveler used more than 11 GB in 14 days with hotspot and video calls for four people, and a Ubigi traveler ran out within two days. Work out your own number with (Travel Data Calculator).
Which eSIM is best for Bogotá?
Holafly, based on the reports: it worked for 4 of 4 travelers in Bogotá, the only provider with 3 or more reports there, though its speed was capped in our test. Maya Mobile, Nomad and Saily each have one positive Bogotá report. The country-level picks apply if you prefer another provider.
Is a local SIM card for tourists cheaper than an eSIM in Colombia?
For more than about 2 to 3 GB, a local prepaid SIM was reported to cost less and to include unlimited national calls, based on dated prices from July 2026. The catch is registration, which sources disagree on, and a visit to a counter. A travel eSIM is easier on arrival. Compare current eSIM plans with (eSIM Comparison).
Which mobile network is best in Colombia?
Claro has the widest coverage: the regulator measured it in 878 municipalities, against 211 for Tigo. Few travel eSIMs use it, though. Jetpac is reported on Claro, and one eSIM4Travel product is listed on Claro. Most other providers use Movistar or Tigo, which are now one company.
Do I need to register my phone to use an eSIM in Colombia?
Not for a roaming-style eSIM. Colombia requires IMEI registration on local networks but exempts international roaming. Airalo's Colombia eSIM is the exception we found: it asks for a passport check and registers your phone's IMEI. A prepaid SIM from a local carrier must be registered to a person.

Summary: the best eSIM for Colombia

Based on 108 traveler reports and our tests, Holafly has the strongest record for Colombia (19 of 22 travelers), with the weakness that its speed is capped. GoMoWorld (16 of 21) suits heavy data use but does nothing until you press Start in the app. Jetpac (6 of 6) was reported to work outside the big cities, with a rough app. GigSky (3 of 3) lets you top up without Wi-Fi, at one of the highest prices. Maya Mobile (18 of 19) suits long trips on one unlimited plan but sells nothing smaller. eSIM4Travel has no Colombia reports yet and no app, but is among the cheapest and has a human help desk.

Installing the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi avoids most of the activation problems in these reports. Because Movistar and Tigo are now one company, a backup on Claro gives you a different network. For heavy use or a long stay, a local SIM can cost less once you accept the registration. The best eSIM for Colombia depends on where you go, how much data you need and whether you can live without a help desk, and the plan tables above show current prices for each size.

As the only iPhone user on our team, she makes sure our guides cover every platform, and she shares her own tips for getting eSIMs running smoothly on an iPhone.

Kristýna helps us see our content through the reader's eyes and understand what information people need to make good decisions. She is also gradually improving our design and adding useful details for users, such as statistics on how well networks perform in different countries and locations.

In her free time, Kristýna heads outdoors for hiking and via ferratas. That experience has taught her how much it matters to choose a network with good coverage in the mountains and other remote areas.
