The movement seeks to create a global culture centered around "soul consciousness" by teaching people the importance of transcending labels connected to the body, such as those related to nationality, race, gender, religion etc. The Brahma Kumaris teach a form of meditation called BK meditation, or Raja Yoga, which stresses identity as souls rather than bodies, in order to support their ideas and ethos.

It is encouraged of followers or practitioners of this kind of meditation to purify their brains. Sitting in a peaceful place, one might engage in the practice by uttering affirmations about the eternal nature of the soul, the original purity of one's essence, and the nature of God. The BK meditation aims to help people learn the art of holding meditative states while engaging in mundane and everyday tasks. This is why the meditation method is practiced with eyes open.
